I want to say thanks for MadVr

This is the first time i get never stuttering on my Setup
(Zoom Player, CoreAVC + DScaler IVTC Mod, Haali, MadVR+yCMS, ReClock).
The Picture Quality is great.
Again thanks to Madshi and Yesgrey.

I have a problem with my interlaced Display (CRT TV) connected as second Display (Custom Interlaced Resolution created with Powerstrip). Downscaling does work perfect on the progressive Display (no banding, sparkling) but on the interlaced TV i got banding, sparkling (dont know how to call it) but only in Motion, no matter what Resizer is used (clear visible on Simpsons HD Recording).
Is this a bug ?
Is there a way to avoid it ?

I'm using an interlaced res with my crt projector - 1920x1080 at 96hz interlaced (48hz in powerstrip).

Exclusive mode doesn't work, but it's otherwise fine. No sparklies. But I don't downscale.

Hi Mark_A_W

Can you please test downscaling with an Cartoon Movie (i think only there it is clear visible).

I cant understand why it works perfect on a progressive Display but not for an interlaced Display.

thanks

DScaler IVTC Mod

What's it?

What's it?

MPEG 2 Decoder with Inverse Telecine Support. I use it for NTSC-DVDs and HDTV-NTSC Movie recordings you get the original 24 progressive frames out of the movies and you can throw it with Reclock to PAL Output (No need for Deinterlace). NTSC Material never looked better on a PAL CRT.:)

Am I the only one getting random system lockups when using CoreAVC CUDA?

I was decoding a 720p h264 stream, upscaling it to 1080p + MT Avisynth scripting in ffdshow, and downscaling it again to 720p in mVR. It worked fine for 5 mins then I got a complete system lockup...the graphic card was crashed and my mobo was forced to make a cold reboot.

It already happened once or twice in the past so it's a very rare issue, I remember it occuring after 5 mins on a 720p50 h264 stream...same story, lockup > cold reboot.

I run XPSP3 on a 96SP 8800GS, I do this kind of SuperSampling trick on SD all the time..it seems to be due to a random deadlock between CoreAVC CUDA and mVR :o

Umm...don't use CUDA?

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist ;)

CUDA is too good to pass up, I get GPU h264 decoding leaving the CPU free for Didée's genius scripts...even on 1080p :)

It's only happened thrice so far...and only on 50fps content or extreme SuperSampling conditions AFAICR. If I'm the only one with this problem, then it might be due to my CPU overclock somehow. My system is dead stable in games/IntelBurnTest and I've watched zillions CUDA+mVR movies w/o a itch..I might need to increase my MCH voltage one notch.

I'd update to the latest WHQL nvidia drivers, but there's been some reports of problems w/ mVR I think.

Yeah, but with CUDA the data has to go back and forth from the GPU when using madVR. That can't be good.

It always has to, thats nothing special about madVR. In any case it should not lock up. Stutter, sure. Drop Frames, sure. Lock up? Bad sign :p

It's so rare that it's prolly due to my overclocking, even more so if I'm the only one w/ the problem...It works fine 99.999% of the time

I had some troubles stabilizing my overclock(Xeon Q9450 2.66Ghz@3.5Ghz), maybe that back and forth communication puts more strain on the MCH somehow, I will try to increase its voltage from 1.4V to 1.55V...many ppl advise 1.55V for proper stability on the P35 chipset MCH(P5K Premium WiFi/AP).

I'm still strongly amazed by mVR's PQ, and I just came to realize that the GIGO principle very much applies...using SmoothLevels(preset="tv2pc")+LSF w/ a big SuperSampling factor provides a "beyond words" PQ http://forum-images.hardware.fr/images/perso/5/ostro%20gaud.gif

This french/german cartoon (http://www.amazon.fr/Lascars-Blu-ray-Lazaro-Albert-Pereira/dp/B002L7TMOU) was praised for its amazing soundtrack(one of the very bests I've heard), but its PQ is just as astounding w/ that combo(it looks even better IRL):

Hi Madshi; nice work again ;)

Isn't the YUY2 output "more" thrusty on the colour than YV12 ?

For me, when switching from windowed to fullscreen there is a delay. It's not always the same length, sometimes just half a second, sometimes 2-3 seconds. During this time only a blank screen is shown.

I don't know if this is related, but when switching from fullscreen to windowed for a very short time I see the frame that was shown when I entered fullscreen mode. After that the video continues normally in windowed mode.

Also when I send Windows to hibernation while a video is open in MPC (not neccessarily playing) on restart this error message is shown in the MPC window (red on black ground):

MadVR reports:
- resetting Direct3D device failed (88760868)

I can then just press play and the after up to 3 or so seconds the video will reappear. Before that only audio is played but no video.

madshi, I just wonder if you found or know the cause the the freezing many of us have had with 034 as you have not commented on it?

it seems ReClock is the culprit

freezes are gone but for me ReClock is essential.
So for now im using v32

Update

Clean-up manual frame database and Clean-up video clock timings database in ReClock Configuration fixed it for me.
Now V. 34 works perfect.

Did not work for me I had the same freezes without reclock being loaded. Like you I first through reclock was the causes but it turned out it was not. I could not get the issue to happen in the debug build to provide a log.

The Stream is
Haali Media Splitter 1.10.262.12 to FFDshow decoder 3562 to madVR 0.34. Without using the script below it works fine, but of course does not frame double. Audio is FFDShow decoder 3562 to Zoomplayer Audio Filter to reclock.

With the script active, CPU load is under 20% (and only on 4 to 8 cores. GPU is under 40% (had to switch from a 5450 to a 5750 since the 5450 could not handle the load), yet I have about 30+% (300 over 10 seconds as an example) of all frames being dropped. I'm lost as to why I can not frame double as any script I run, seems to have the same problem. None are CPU or GPU bottle-necked, yet none actually display a doubled frame rate. Nor does madVR show the frame rate as having been doubled at all. I know our people use MadVR and it works, and for scaling it kind of a must, but can anyone shine any light on why I can not get any frame doubling script to work, I bought this new PC to do it, yet so far its been a major bust.

Does MadVr have some issue I am unaware of with frame doubling, on avsforum I saw nothing about it not working and may people seem to say it does work, but I can not get it to ever work out that the frame rate was doubled. I am measuring based on Ctrl-J and weather or not I use a script such as that above, it always attempts to render as it I have not actually adjusted the frame rate at all. Using EVR or VMR9 I do see it exceed 30 frames a second, it never reached 60 (or 48 in this case), but it exceeded 24 with MadVR it never changes, just drops any extra frames which were added.

Reclock does see the changed speed:
Default: 23.976 fps, 1280x720p, YV12 12 bits
Running script above: 60.000 fps, 1280x720p, YV12 12 bits

Did not work for me I had the same freezes without reclock being loaded. Like you I first through reclock was the causes but it turned out it was not. I could not get the issue to happen in the debug build to provide a log.

you are right
im sorry for the false alarm.

I have a 430GT and use mpc-hc. Dual monitor with 1080p TV as secondary. So far the only way I've gotten smooth playback is to use madVR. Thanks madshi !

my videos are either 720p/1080p mkv or decrypted blurays. mostly 23.976fps. my tv is 1080p LCD @24hz. What are the best madvr settings to use?

PS: a request for madshi. Could you make the seekbar size configurable? or at least an option for a larger seekbar. On a large display sitting 8' away, it can be hard to see/click on that thing.

I'm getting "Macrovision Fail" with MadVR 0.34 on Windows 7 64bit, both with Original DVD and decrypting it on my HD with DvdFab Decrypter. Is it normal? It's MadVR fault?

It is. Its a long-time standing issue with madVR. Apparently most of the DVD decoding filters use some microsoft drm service. This service has an issue with madVR causing the macrovision errors. If you rip your dvds to vob's you should be good.

I'm in the same boat as you, heres to hoping madshi hasn't been kidnapped and some later version will work. I'm an avid Netflixer so I can't wait until the day I can just stick in a dvd and get great upscaling, until then I'll just use the xbox :x

Anyone tried DVDs with MadVR on Windows Vista or preferably Windows XP?

edit: I copied qdvd.dll from my Windows XP desktop PC over to my laptop's Windows 7 installation, and this seems to allow DVDs to be played with the menu. Only thing is Ctrl+J is reporting 'movie unknown fps'.

edit2: movie unknown fps was being reported because I was using MPC-HC's internal MPEG-2 decoder with deinterlacing.

I play DVD's (or rather the VOB files) with madvr on Vista.
For madshi's comments re DVD's see this post...

That's a known problem. madVR currently is not able to playback DVDs with menu on Vista or Windows 7. It works on XP. It's some kind of copy protection or something like that, implemented in the Microsoft DVD navigation filter used by MPC HC. It's on my to do list to check whether I can fix it, but there are a couple of other things on my to do list which have a higher priority right now.

You can play the VOB files directly, though.

Ooh that sounds promising. Any idea if theres somewhere else to get this dll besides an XP installation?

qdvd.dll (http://www.sendspace.com/file/ksttul)

Enjoy and report back with your results on Windows Vista/7.

Hi, qdvd.dll doesn't work for me. I explicitly choose it in mpc-hc and enable all of the filters found except for the overlay mixers of course, macrovision failed still.... am I doing something wrong

Another issue: madvr seems to have issues with playing one frame files, eg copyright warning files. Not a major issue just that mpc-hc seems to at least show the frame for a few seconds, windows media player shows the frame for the duration of the clip but with madvr I never ever see the warning frame. See file ->

Can anyone get it to play and not show a black image when entering / exiting fullscreen mode? http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X0G8CKAY

I have found that in the past, this can effect things like dvd menus that contain one frame when the renderer has issues.

I'm using Windows 7 btw dansrfe incase you want me to try any further tests.

Yeah using latest mpc-hc, ffdshow and madVR as of today anyways. When I load qdvd.dll using mpc-hc external filters, about 5 new filters appear in my list. If I choose prefer to them all, I get dvd playback but it uses the overlay mixer instead of madvr then. If I block the overlay ones, I go back to getting macrovision failure.

I don't recall such filters, but try use MPC-HC's internal MPEG-2 filter.

The open/above way might be better, though.

I couldn't get qdvd.dll to work just adding it as an external filter in mpc. Renamed the version in Windows/System32 (you will need to give ownership of this file to administrator first in win7) to save it and copied the downloaded qdvd.dll. Works like a charm. Thanks guys

Hello all,
Using latest madVR, I've notice that for some videos it seems madVR isn't doing a proper resizing.
Meaning, I have a movie with 1920x1040 resolution (as reported by madVR in "movie resolution").
I'm running my monitor in 1920x1080, so I suppose no resizing should be done.
However, madVR reports "target rectangle" as 1932x1066, which seems weird to me.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance, Adam.

* EDIT *
I *think* I may have accidentally changed MPC-HC zoom settings, which caused the above. seems fine now.

Alt+PrintScreen = Your Friend.
I get black screen with Alt+PrintScreen. With PrintScreen only I get a screenshot with windowed MPC-HC and task bar.

And even if it worked, what do you suggest? Pasting it in Paint and saving each and every screenshot, giving it a unique name and delaying the watch?

dansrfe
29th November 2010, 21:19
he suggests it because there is simply no other alternative. you could try an easier method of capturing maybe using FastStone Capture (which is what I use) since it can predefine windowed areas and autosave. until madshi adds capture support this is a perfectly fine alternative.

You should disable the FS exclusive mode when you want to use the PrintScreen.
Did you try FRAPS? It should work on D3D surfaces as well.

When I use tvlevels in madVR I get grey blacks although I would not expect this to happen with my configuration: beamer set to HDMI range normal (not expanded), MPC-HC render settings set to use tv levels, decoder (if setting available) configured to use tvlevels.

When I configure madVR to use PC levels the grey's become black again... is this correct?

Configuration: Windows 7 x86, Nvidia GT220, beamer connected as monitor 2 on extended desktop.

With the PC levels setting, madVR expands from TV levels to PC, so that is correct.

My TV automatically expands TV levels to PC, so I use the TV levels setting so that it is not expanded by madVR.
