I've never had any issue on my HTPC. Just manage your updates and update when you feel it's safe to do so. Best OS MS has released.

It always takes 2 years or so for a major release of windows to get most of the "kinks" out. I accidentally upgraded to windows 10 this time around (left my pc to my wife is what i mean by accidentally). But usually, i just wait.
I don't like errors in my windows log. I try to fix them all. I'm having a hard time fixing all the ones for windows 10 so it means some stuff isn't working. Nothing major... but it's a pet peeve of mine.

I miss MadVr on Linux. If Madshi and the VLC developers could cooperate, that could be possible. MadVr could then use OpenGL or Vulkan APIs instead of DX11. Of course this is only a pipe dream...

Did you try mpv? It has (almost) all the madVR features. Don't forget it's fully opensource!
They are still waiting a little bit before working on Vulkan.

Hello,
can someone tell me what is neccessary to be able to access madvr/madtgp over the network using windows 10 (dispcal or HCFR)?
Both computers are in the same network, LAN access is enabled for madr and firewall rules are set up. But i am still not able to use the pattern generator via network.
I have tried shutting down antivirus and firewall as well... still no luck.
Madvr is only installed on the HTPC and i am trying to access it via my notebook where madvr is not installed.. i have installed it for testing and enabled to show the icon only when there is another madvr instance on the network and it does not show up as well.
Is there any way to test if madvr is working correctly and is reachable in this regard?
Anything special i need to take a look at when using windows 10 ?:thanks:

I'm not sure it is that simple to port madVR to Linux or to port it to use OpenGL instead of DX.
Just to be safe: No discussion about mpv in my thread, please.
Our man @madshi came to the rescue and stopped a war there :D .
By the way, I tried using SVP and using madVR with something else than MPC-HC but I settled down for MPC-HC + madVR as the most stable setup and with the best performance.
I'm sure that there are other software that work just as good with madVR, but I couldn't get them to work right, even though some of them are actually based on MPC-HC, or just MPC-HC tweaks.
I'm also tried nightly MPC-HC releases and betas, seems it's very stable for me.

Potplayer with LAV filter, madvr, XYsubfilter and SVP works flawlessly for me so does MPC-HC (not sure about xysubfilter) and BE, but I am sure it works in other players too. Setting all this up is a bit different for every player of course, performance (should be) more or less the same.

Dont like custom resoluion = prefer autochange refresh rate in madvr display modes.

I originally wanted to get a GTX 1070 but the whole custom resolution thing with Nvidia is making me nervous since I love how easy AMD/ATI works with their refreshrate change + madvr.

Perfect 23.976 isn't necessarily required, a refresh rate that matches the audio clock is.

I've had to switch from 2D to 1D downscaling because of inexplicably increased rendering times. From the changelog it doesn't look like any changes were made to downscaling, so I have no clue why I'm suddenly seeing decreased performace.
I'm on Win10 64bit (pre-Anniversary version) and GTX 960 with everything up-to-date, Nvidia driver clean installed. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling madVR.

I haven't felt any need for sharpening because the UHD clips from Galaxy Note 4 are oversharp (and oversaturated) to begin with.
Downscaling UHD to 1080p used to be roughly ~30 ms using 2D but right now it's 33-34 ms for some reason (meaning dropped frames for my 30 fps smartphone vids).
In other words, even when downscaling was working optimally, there were only a few extra ms left after 2D downscaling with the GTX 960. Then again, not sure how much of big downscales is CPU dependent (not much I'd assume?); I've got a crappy Pentium from 2013, though it's never maxing out with madVR.

I just bought a used 750 Ti. I'm gambling that HEVC and UHD won't be important for another couple of years. The 750 Ti is almost perfect for 1080p, as long as you don't demand NNEDI3, which I don't. NNEDI3 is possible, but you may have to reduce other settings to accommodate it.

Have some changes been made to the newest MadVr or NNEDI3 shaders that produce more artifacts than before? I can clearly see artifacts on all my content. These are the settings I use :
- chroma upscaling : NNEDI3 256
- image downscaling : SSIM 1D 100% AR LL
- image doubling : always double Luma & chroma NNEDI3 64
- image upscaling : Jinc AR
- sharpen edges 4.0, enhance detail 1.0, SR2 AR
- Error Diffusion 2
I have the latest nVidia driver for my GTX 1080 card.
@madshi : Is there an older version of MadVr you can suggest I try? Or is it just my combination of settings maybe.

I have just upgraded my AMD 6670 to an AMD 480 and although I am very pleased with the video quality it is proving quite difficult to setup madVR for the best video.
Attached is a snap of Wattman showing amongst other parameters the GPU load. I would normally setup madVR parameters to give me the best picture for a GPU load of ~90% leaving a margin of 10%. Unfortunately the 480 card seems to use the GPU in some sort of burst mode and each burst frequently exceeds 90%. The burst are 10 to 15 seconds apart!
In spite of this the card does not drop frames (the dropped frames on the screen snap should be ignored)
Is anyone else using the 480 card? Are you seeing the same GPU load activity?

FWIW, it's about 10ms on my GTX 1080 with antibloat enabled. I do have some upscaling refinements active also.

It's early days at the moment. I will move on h265 once I get the basics sorted and let you know.
With regard to gpu utilisation, it is almost as though the card is processing data, filling the buffer and then starting the cycle over again when the buffer goes below the set level. Pretty bizzare behaviour but it's all I can think of. When I disable madvr the peaks are still present but only peak at about 5%.
Is anyone else using the new AMD RX 480 ?

I did major research on 23.976 as I had major issues with it.
Truth to be told, if the TV playbacks 23.976 in 23.98 ratio, you won't notice a difference, that small frame repeat makes no difference at all. However playing back at beneath 23.976 causes audio drops (usually with TrueHD).
Most 24p complaints are because their TVs can't playback 24p properly, my old samsung C series TV can't handle 24p via HDMI without random stutter, only via DLNA for some reason, my JS9000 handles it with no issue (playing back at 23.98 passthrough)

Not really. Yes, you need a video signal that matches the audio rate. However, 23.976 is a whole lot closer than the 23.97 Nvidia cards start with. Further, the graphics card is the audio output in most cases nowadays, so they should both be derived from the same source clock. I have no idea why they can't just put the right circuitry on a $650 videocard to output 24/1.001 & 60/1.001 correctly. Instead they have some gimped clock generator that is limited to only 2 decimal places of pixel clock frequency accuracy which forces you to use a custom resolution rather then than the standard CEA-861 timings.
My R9 380 was much better in this regards.

You seem to be disagreeing with yourself here. Why bother with 23.976 if we already know it may not be perfect? Why not set it up to be as perfect as possible? Which is what the thread elaborates in detail on how to get there.

There's no disagreement. 24/1.001 is a better starting point than 23.97. Which is why I don't agree with his claim that it's pointless. Nvidia should offer proper 24/1.001 output with the standard CEA-861 timings. That would be more accurate for most people and comparable to real CE devices as opposed to the substandard output they have by default. The second statement you quoted was intended to be a reply to this:

In both cases we're talking about errors in the 3rd decimal place, Sure, they seem small but they do matter.
Sure it can be tuned even more accurate straying very slightly from 24/1.001, but that doesn't somehow invalidate asking for a standard correct output with the gross error corrected.

There is some funky stuff going on here. I have set allways NNEDI3 64 for image doubling/quadruple on all. So Jinc should not kick in here. For Image downscaling I have set SSim2D100 AR and NOT Bicubic150 AR. Edit : newest MadVr used.

i don't see anything compliantly wrong here.
SSIM2D100 can't upscale and you need up and downscaling at the same time.
@ clock madness
the refresh rate shown in madVR is compered to the system clock. who is saying this clock is correct?
and intel is using the same clock generator here. so there numbers >look< better.
maybe there is something wrong with the calculation how nvidia is getting this low frame rate but amd problems are simply from two different clocks.
in the end you have to fine tune it to get it "perfectly" so changing it more or less is not important you have to change it anyway.

I did that and it changed to :

I'm pretty sure it's doing the right thing. You have "scale chroma separately, if it saves performance" checked in Trade quality for performance right?
Are you expecting it to supersample the chroma and downscale it using SSIM2D? AFAIK, SSIM2D doesn't (can't?) downscale chroma.

No, all options under "trade quality for performance" is unticked/disabled. Why shouldn't chroma doubling/quadruple get upscaled and downscaled like luma?

Have you tried to manually install the nVidia drivers? Because Win10 Windows Update do not install the openCL driver. If you have nVidia that is.

I got a GTX 780 ti..
I just downloaded the driver from nvidia, did a clean install and rebooted, still have the same issue.

That is very odd, I am running Win10 + Nvidia (Titan X (Pascal)) with the current drivers (372.54). madVR's NNEDI3 works very well here.

quick sidenote, how is the new Titan X with madVR? do you use a 2160p screen?

You would buy a card as expensive as the Titan X just for madVR? I would sooner use super-xbr image doubling and use a GTX 1060. NNEDI3 image doubling is not worth the extra expense of a GPU.

And with a 4k display, even a GTX 1060 would be quite too slow. Quadrupling 720p with super-xbr + SR & deband in 4k resolution are extremely expansive.
However, a "1080 Ti" probably won't be much slower than the new Titan X (maybe 10%?).

OK, this is acceptable if you require 720p image quadrupling plus image downscaling. Otherwise, the GTX 1060 would be fine.
This begs the question "how much would you spend on a computer to use madVR?"

I can already use nnedi3 with my 780 ti, I won't buy a new GPU *just* for madVR, I just wanted to know how it performs. I need a new GPU for something else.

You are right, 64 bit version works.
But I can't get my GPU to output accurate 23.976Hz, so I use reclock to speed up to 24Hz, reclock is 32bit only...
