I am doing all that with my 1070 ..well except the 2160 enhancements so not sure what you are doing on that one.
No issues for me.
Manys thank for the info.
Are you able to use NGU when upscaling 1080p to 2160p?

Thanks for the feedback guys.
So basically, what is the benefit of having more capable video card like RTX 2080 Ti?

Hi, I'm changing profiles with a keyboard shortcut, is there any way to disable the small osd info that shows in the upper left corner everytime I change the profile?
Thanks!

If you can use d3d11native then none. Guys thought it would be, but maybe it never will :)

I have a problems with my installation. I use madVr with MPC-BE. The problem is that with every movie I watch after about an hour and a half or a little more the PC freezes with the still image and the audio in continuous loop. The video card is a Radeon RX580 and the madVR values are medium to high. The GPU works constantly between 75 and 95% with a temp ranging from 70 to 85/90 degrees. Are this values too high? What are acceptable values? Or maybe the problem can be somewhere else?
Thanks.

I'm at 83 degrees when watching movies, but my graphics card has passive cooling. :D

I don't like going over 80°C but 85 should be OK. Crashing at 90 or higher seems very likely to be the issue.

When was the last time the system was cleaned? Dust and poor air-flow can cause things like this

Very good suggestion. I get WAY more dust in my apartment (with a top of the line filter) than I did in my home, so I use both compressed air and vacuuming.
One more thing about heat. M2 form factor SSD's can generate a LOT of heat. I had one a couple of years ago, and could not get the thing to run cool despite adding fans and heatsinks. Got rid of it and replaced it with a Samsung 970 EVO, and all related temp issues went away.

Hi Flavio61,
experienced similar freezes with audio looping and random BSODs after 15-45min of GPU assisted playback back with my AMD based Ryzen 3600 + Radeon RX570 system for few months back in April-June. For me the issue was caused by Windows 10's Balanced Power profile, a long shot for sure but worth the try, if all else fails. As a hindsight the issue might have been resolved just by changing the Window's Power Profile from Balanced to High Performance. Wrote about the issue in lenght earlier in here, check out the following post, https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1914813#post1914813
Hope this helps!

I would be a bit worried if I encountered this to be honest, because it means the CPU isn't fully stable at the intermediate performance states (voltage-frequency combinations) or when transitioning between them.

Ryzen CPU's really need to use the Ryzen Power Plans... Windows still doesn't play nice with them and it's own Power Plans... It's an easy fix, just update to the latest AMD Chipset Drivers and the Ryzen Power Plans will be added and available for selecting.

AMD is renaming this bug for nearly a year now it currently this:
Using Edge™ web browser to playback video content with a multi display system configuration may cause a system hang or crash after extended periods of use.
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-5-1
new window 10 versions have barely any differences between balanced and ryzen balanced. the "need" for a ryzen power plan was mostly thanks to a "bug" where windows treated AMD different from intel which could result in a lost of performance.

I don't know much about new Win10s but there's big difference on 1607/1809. I use my own power plan (based on balanced but slower/lazier) with R5 2600 without any issues.

1809 doesn't sound new to me but i don't know the version they changed core parking.
1607 can't may not even have the scheduler fix if i remember correctly you need 1903 for that.
Anyone having issues with MadVR's pattern generator triggering HDR? I can play HDR movies fine on MPC BE with MadVR on latest Nvidia drivers but the pattern generator refuses to trigger HDR.
Trying to do a simple greyscale calibration for HDR is proving to be very difficult!

Yes, it has not been able to trigger HDR for me either. I am not sure when it started but it is awhile now. :(
I read on AVS that this is an issue with Calman. Does it also happen with DisplayCal?

Hello everyone!
I haven't been around for a while, what is the main software recommended for running madVR? I used to use MPC-HC, but when I tried to download it, i found they took down all the links and everything about it. Where can I find MPC-HC? What are you guys using for MPC-HC? VLC is no way to go for me, but I don't quite understand what else runs madVR as good as MPC-HC does (?)

MPC-HC has a good thread here (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209) where clsid has continued the project. :)

Yep - even if you manually click the HDR button - which used to kick in HDR - it no longer does.
The pattern geneator hasn't been updated since 2018 - it probably just doesn't work with the latest nvidia drivers.

Current MPC-HC is good.
Other popular choices are MPC-BE, Kodi DSPlayer, JRiver, PotPlayer, ZoomPlayer.
Bunch of supported players are listed here: http://madvr.com/ but it's maybe not an exhaustive list as madVR is a directshow renderer, so any player that can use a directshow renderer can probably use madVR.

I bought a Hisense 55Q9G (Canada) last week and HDR passthrough isn't working properly. It will trigger and then the next movie it won't unless I either uninstall madVR and reinstall or go to TV and back to PC, but usually only for one playthrough. D3D11/DXVA etc, new drivers, fullscreen exclusive, nothing is maintaining one play. I'm sort of at my wits end. I can use pixel shaders no problem, and can resign myself to that but I would like to have a fully working build. 1070 TI, Windows 10 1903, everything is stock installed to second drive. Everything was working perfectly with my LG and hopefully I can be advised of ways to troubleshoot this. I think this all started after I had one movie that I played with measurements from a previous build. I'm currently on .113
EDIT: I figured it out. There was a shortcut to an old install location when I installed LAV Filters Megamix that was interfering with everything somehow. It's all good now!

I recently installed a laptop I had laying around as a second HTPC in the house with W10 x64 2004, MPC-HC, LAV filters and madVR and using it as a simple HTPC connected to my TV in the livingroom, displaying 1080p source material only on a full-HD TV.
The laptop has an iGPU, Intel UHD620, I'm using super-XBR (sharpness 100) as chroma upscaling and no further image enhancements/refinements. So far it's running good, got rendering times around 30ms on 23.976 sources. The Intel iGPU does a far better job than my GTX1070 in my main HTPC when it comes to playback of 23.976 out of the box, hardly any frame drops/repeats for over an hour or so.
In LAV Video decoder, what hardware decoder is currently advised to use for the Intel iGPU? I got it on D3D11 currently (Hardware device to use: Automatic (Native).
It seems DXVA2 Copy back works as well and lowers the rendertimes a couple milliseconds.
I'm unsure which decoder I should pick best for the Intel iGPU.
Yes, it has not been able to trigger HDR for me either. I am not sure when it started but it is awhile now. :(
Follow up to this - it won't trigger BT2020 either. So if you're after an SDR BT2020 calibration (like for a projector) TPG won't trigger it so you get incorrect profiling and therefore LUT.
I found a work around - the profile that MadVR is selecting automatically make sure you check "send BT2020 to display". TPG then will be forced to go to BT2020 which results in a correct BT2020 LUT in SDR.
Selecting passthrough HDR doesn't do the same trick though - it won't trigger HDR.
madshi recently replied to a post of mine over on AVS:
VBB:
"Mathias, I wish you all the success in the world with Envy, but please don't forget where this all started:
https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146228
60,000 posts and 35 million views!
While the guys over there might not be able or willing to buy an Envy, a lot of us long-time users sure as hell are willing to pay you for the software and your continued support."
madshi:
"Yes, I do feel bad for not having posted on doom9 for a very long time. At the moment all my concentration is on making Envy the best product we can. And after that's done, Ric and I will brainstorm on how to best proceeed with the madVR HTPC software. You can be rest assured that I have no plans to stop developing it. For example, for some algos I need the feedback of as many users as possible to make the algos look as good as possible. However, we've not fully decided yet what our "business plan" with the madVR HTPC software is going to be. It's a very difficult topic, and please let's not discuss is now. I wouldn't be able to participate in such a discussion now, anyway."

hey guys, nvidia changed its hdr code in the 45x.xx drivers. because of that madvr hdr passtrough does not work anymore.
quote from guru3d forum: "HDR works fine, it's just madvr that doesn't know what to do with how Nvidia changed the HDR code in the drivers. If it's like the 451.22, NVHDR activates the Windows HDR option instead of running its own code."
from me: can confirm. mpc be madvr hdr passtrough does not work anymore. it just activates windows hdr but movie is still sdr. only help for now is to go back to 446.14.
so please update madvr and make hdr passtrough usable again. thx.

Try this...someone discovered this in the driver thread. Start your movie and let it screw up. Stop it, and reload it. It'll work fine. I'm doing it as we speak.
So this is what the other guy was referring to. B1gD4ddy explained it way better. Thanks for that.

25th June 2020, 02:29
thx, but this doesnt work for me.
only work around that works for me is...start movie...windows hdr activates itself...deactivate windows hdr manually...go movie fullscreen...dont touch player bottom bar because then movie gehts sdr again lol.
but a work around is not a solution.
so madvr team, please fix.
you are welcome vbb.

Posting that request here might as well be rubbing a magic lamp. LOL I posted the request on the avs thread for HDR testing. Madshi is about to release a new beta build "soon ish" so I asked if he could look at this. But the work around does work for me. I'm watching The Predator on the latest studio driver as we speak.

madvr team does not raed the thread? i mean thats a serious thing that should get fixed since so many people use madvr solely for hdr passthrough.
SamuriHL
25th June 2020, 02:46
madshi hasn't been involved in this thread for a significant amount of time as he's hyper focused on getting the Envy out the door. He is still doing beta builds for HDR tone mapping functionality to help improve the Envy. That's why I posted it over in the avs thread because if there's any possibility to get fixed, that MIGHT be it. But I'd not hold my breath. I don't think it's a priority right now.
