What you select and what is actually being used might differ (software fallback). To check see what LAV Video settings of active instance state as "Active Decoder: [...]" and "Active Hardware Accelerator: [...]". In madVR OSD the decoding queue indicates whether video decoding is fast enough (queue always full or nearly full) or not (queue low/empty).

The result is as expected: Kaby Lake can decode the video (fast enough) and with native D3D11 there is no bottleneck copying frames from/to RAM. So with 1. any remaining slowdowns should be because of too demanding madVR processing.

So there should be no problem with Intel NUC 8th Generation either? There is Intel Core i5-8259U with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655.

With DXVA2 Native or D3D11 Native decoding, and low madVR settings, you can play stuff surprisingly well on NUCs. So yeah, it should be mostly fine. Just don't expect too much from madVR, since the GPU is weak.

HDR now looks better, but SDR is oversaturated, even with DCI-P3.
And more trouble - the rendering time has increased 2 times (30->60ms) on my Vega8 (Ryzen 3 2200G) :(

This was posted at the DSPlayer forum. I'm not certain if it works or will bring back functioning stereoscopic 3D playback to Nvidia, but it might be worth a try:

This shader is only useful for converting the gamut from a BT.2020 HDR source to Rec.709 or DCI-P3 when using passthrough. You should not use it in any other situation. The increase in rendering time surprises me a lot, much more demanding shaders only take 2-3 ms in a 1080 with 4K @ 60fps. Create a folder in the madVR installation folder with the name "ShowRenderSteps" to confirm in the OSD that it's because of the shader.

I don't think so, only in terms of the resolution, but anyway why would you want to do something like that for the SDR? You can use madVR for that and it would not take that much rendering time.
The rendering times are very large, I guess that's normal for your GPU. :(
Delete the ShowRenderSteps folder if you don't need it, because it will slow down the overall rendering time when the OSD is being displayed.

a 3d LUT should only take a couple of MS.
and it doesn't matter what GPU you are using a simple range conversation shouldn't take longer then the minimum of about 0.3 ms even an old Intel igpu can do such a task easily. on the other hand AMD APU are one of the fastest iGPUs out there.
you are currently not using an native decoder and the main reason i don't like to recommend AMD apu is that they are limited to 8 lanes of PCIe.

a 3d LUT should only take a couple of MS.
3d LUTs in madVR can only be used for tone mapping. This shader is for passthrough.

There's no checkbox to trigger the HDR mode so the screen will remain in SDR mode with much less brightness.

this should be automatic just by seeing the type of the 3D LUT if it is a 3D LUT with PQ madVR has to trigger HDR.
HDR calibration isn't something new anyway it just complicated in comparison.

I just tried a LUT to process HDR content and it does not activate the HDR mode, so it might be a bug.

check the sensors to see if you run into any bottlenecks.
so the 8 PCIe are only a limitation for dGPU strange choice AMD but good in this case.

OK, I got a new 4k tv. It's a sony x950g and I'm having the same problems at 60z. I can't get it to go to RGB. I also can't get it to switch to 10bit. Another problem I'm having, which is why I posted in here is when I add the refresh rate rule to madVR 4k starts skipping. When I remove it, it runs much smoother. Halp

Hi, which one of the new nvidia gpus is good enough for 1080p>4k upscaling at 60HZ and also 4k UHD BluRay playback with HDR? Ofc with hugh quality madvr settings.

that's not true. you can use a 3D LUT and still output HDR.
It seems that the functionality of processing HDR content has been removed in the latest version, or simply doesn't work. I have tried it with several LUTs with the output PQ transfer function, with DXVA2 copy-back decoding, FSE, Direct3D 11 for presentation... and the HDR mode is not triggered. In madVR v0.92.16 there was an explicit option to "process HDR content by using an external 3DLUT" with a checkbox to send HDR metadata to the display that enabled the HDR mode, but in the latest version the only option is "tone map HDR using external 3DLUT " without a checkbox to send the HDR metadata, so it seems logical to think that this is intentional.
Anyway I can only make assumptions as usual, coincidentally this was part of my first question in this thread back in October of 2018 and still no answer.

i know it was put into the same category so it was a feature and it looks like it should still work but i can't answer that for you and well i better just stop here because it's been awhile since last october.
there are so many ways to fix color issue with madVR none of them should be this slow.

OK, I got a new 4k tv. It's a sony x950g and I'm having the same problems at 60z. I can't get it to go to RGB. I also can't get it to switch to 10bit.
Without HDMI 2.1 (which AFAIK doesn't exist yet GPU-side, and is only supported by the new LG C9 display-side), you can't output RGB 2160p60.

Also, 8bit RGB 2160p60 is better quality than 12 bit YCbCr 4:2:2. This is not true if watching via a bluray player but it is when using madVR. I use 8bit RGB 2160p60 most of the time, over HDMI 2.0, on a LG C7 and now a C9.
HDMI 2.1 allows RGB 2160p120, which I am very much looking forward to when a GPU with HDMI 2.1 comes out. :D

there is older version with that option.
you can use the windows HDR where this could work.
or it just works for you.
you should still figure out where your gpu is taking ages for an totally trivial conversion.
there are far more variables to check why this could go wrong.

Stuck on 1080 on my OLED until my amp gets updated, banged in some 48Gbps HDMI cables for good measure. Most of my stuff is 1080 anyway so I can deal for now, but damn OLED is so God damned clean/pure in picture quality, get that 4:4:4 poppin and lord almighty, it's glorious. 10-bit is a waste of time based on the Pana OLED with my limited testing.

I meant I've tried 2 different cords in 2 different spots on the tv and they're both the same. 4.2.0 8 bit. I can't even get RGB, let alone 8 bit 10 bit and so on. I've tried looking for the magic mode to put it in, but haven't found it yet.

just use 2 cables.Already do, just to amp then to tv. Cable length might be an issue doing it that way but might as well do this in the meantime, can always switch out one of the shorter leads since I don't need the bandwidth anyway. Cheers.

Hello, recently I have noticed a lot of stuttering but it could be because of the the new win 10 update (1903) since it started around that time, but I'm still wondering if anyone else have noticed it? Here are some stats, I noticed I have 20k presentation glitches after 10min.

G-sync Off, madVR hates Gsync
Smooth motion ON, this takes some GPU power but keeps everything smooth without perfectly tuned refresh rates.
Present Frame for every Vsync On, I have had better luck with this option.
Do you have power set to "Adaptive"? The drivers default to Optimal Powder, which is not good. Also, do you have the newest Nvidia drivers? The older ones had a bug that used a lot of CPU.
A test with D3D11 disabled and with windowed overlay enabled might be useful.

Ah oke, I turned off Gsync, set the power to Adaptive and enabled Vsync and that seems to have fixed the stuttering and presentation glitches.

Oh, the stuttering/glitches are back. They came back after I restarted the player around 3 times.
Tried disabling D3D11 but that just makes the whole screen black and turning Vsync off didn't help.
Since it worked in the beginning it seems to be fixable but can't find anything else to test. hm..

Did you try MPC-BE or MPC-HC instead of Potplayer as Potplayer is known to have issues with madVR in some cases.Even though it is working fine in my system. I have MPC-HC, MPC-BE, Potplayer, Jriver MC and Zoom player installed in my two HTPCs. Every player is configured to use madVR and LAVfilters and I have all these players working fine with madVR. If one player has issues, any one of the other always works. I tried both, disabling for just Pot-player and disable it globally and same result.
