So I was able to find the 0-255 option in the Adjust Video Settings section of the Nvidia control panel BUT I dont see any change at all from 0-255 to 16-235... Shouldnt I be seeing some changes like when changing the MADVR settings in the levels?
I am trying to keep the signal without having it converted back and forth for the cleanest possible image.

Doesn't madVR bypass the nvidia settings?

Yep, AFAIK it's just important that with HDMI you either install the driver with a custom inf or you have to create a custom resolution to get full range.

works great here..
i dont have to set anything in NV Panel..its set to: Use Media Player´s settings..

And its all fine..even when i try to set it to Use NV Driver settings, MadVR overrides it here...

I guess it does because no matter what I change to, only changing in madvr makes a difference.

I just send out a crash report to madsi about opening H264 encoded 2160p content (so called 4K content) : Potplayer or Madvr always crashes for me. (don't know who crashes first, but in the end they are both crashed)

Opening the 2160p content with EVR or EVR-CP or even Haali renderer in PP is OK : files play fluent (software decoding).

Has anyone else tried to open such 4K files in Potplayer with Madvr as renderer ?

PS: i have potplayer v1.5.32852 (dd. 30/03/2012) and Madvr 0.82.5

I've been checking the "black screen" issue....
I get black screen only in windowed mode (fullscreen has image) if:
general settings: (enabled) use a separate device for presentation + (enabled) use d3d11 for presentation
exclusive mode settings: (enabled) present several frames in advance

I get black screen windowed + fullscreen if:
general settings: (enabled) use a separate device for presentation + (disabled) use d3d11 for presentation
exclusive mode settings: (enabled) present several frames in advance

Disabling "present several frames in advance" fixes black screen for windowed + fullscreen

Hope this helps.

Windows 7 x64 + mpc hc latest + latest madvr + 301.10 + gtx 470

Kado

I have the black screen weirdly not as soon as I updated my GTX 580 on Win7 x64 to the driver v296.10 but a few days later, and unfortunately the 2 advices above on the renderer config did not fix anything for me in windowed and FS mode.

Is there another workaround, or do I have to wait for a solution from Madshi or Nvidia ?

And where MadVR leaves the rendering log ?

The "MadVR log" goes to your desktop if that's your question.
About the black screens : do you still have these when you use the
295.73 WHQL drivers for your gtx-580 ?
I never saw any black screens with my gtx-570 using the 295.73 drivers.
As the gtx-570 and your gtx-580 are very similar cards, I suggest to try this driver.

If you want Madvr to work with the latest forceware drivers - 300 series - then you need to uncheck "use separate device for presentation" in the Rendering\General Settings of Madvr or you will get a blank screen

Or disable "Present several frames in advance".

Thanks for the help guys.

I don't have the black screen anymore after I downgraded to driver 295.73 and rebooted while leaving "use separate device for presentation" and "Present several frames in advance" enabled.

And odly enough everything was still working after I upgraded a 2nd time to 296.10 and rebooted.

Yea, the change is with the 3xx drivers. I refuse to upgrade to them until this problem is fixed.

As i understand it you only get the black screen if you are using 300 series driver and have "separate device for presentation" enabled. I'm not sure about "present several frames" option as i don't use FSE mode. Either disabling "separate device for presentation" or rolling back to 29x driver should get rid of the black screen.

I'm geting dropped frames and presentation glitches with just 4 frames presented in advance with the following video (x264 I444, 1.3 GB):
http://www.putlocker.com/file/9E6D04BC5FCF596E
http://www.putlocker.com/file/6A0294A40B419F5F
(no need to download it if you don't want ;) )
Each time there's a dropped frame I see stuttering.

With 16 frames in advance there are no more dropped frames or glitches, everything's fine then.

I don't see any problems with 16 frames in advance, what are the disadvantages?
If there aren't any maybe it'd be the better default setting? ;)

What settings would people suggest for use with MadVR and a Intel HD 2000 card?

Default settings might work. For my laptop, when using the previous generation "Intel GMA HD" graphics, all I need to do is change to spline 3(or similar with 3 taps) and reduce the GPU queue size to the lowest. It also helps for me to disable Aero while in fullscreen exclusive mode, but the HD 2000 seems to be twice as powerful in benchmarks that I saw so yeah, default settings might just work.

(note: I mostly play 1280x720 23.976fps stuff and let madVR upscale to 1920x1080)

When I open a specific P010 or 8-bit encoded file (either with LAV or CoreAVC) in Potplayer with MadVR renderer, CPU resources rise to 50-60 %. When I pause the video resources are at 30 %.
Video is unplayable and system stops responding, especially if I enter full screen

Then if I change Madvr CPU and GPU cue from 12 and 8 to max and reopen the video, it plays normally with CPU at 30 % and 1 % during pause. Yet when I open the video again with the same settings, it goes back to 50-60 % and systems becomes unresponsive when video is running.

here is the info of the specific files that cause this issue

Vision of Escaflowne GP Blueray release 1080 10-bit
Patlabor OVA 2 GP Blueray release 1080 8-bit

Dennou Coil BD release 1080 10-bit by Coalgirls runs fine

http://www.mediafire.com/?xewey9lsvcwuwem

with Media Player Classic I have no such issue and video plays fine. I am confused as to whether it has to do with MadVR or Potplayer. When I use other video renderers in Potplayer videos play fine.

System is Windows XP-32 bit, Nvidia GTS 450, Intel i3 560@4 Ghz, latest Nvidia, MadVR and Potplayer (32-bit).

Checked:

use managed upload textures, delay playback, full screen mode. but it really does not make a difference whether they are active or not

In windowed mode settings I set backbuffers to 8.

I have also a laptop with Intel 2430M, Nvida GT555M and WIndows 7 64-bit and these videos run without any issue.

what would be some good madVR settings for a 560ti card?

You should really try for yourself. For me as long as it has smooth playback using exclusive mode is great and since subtitle presentation does not drop frames or similar is a plus comparing to evr cp.
Different systems need different settings.

i have been, just wondering of others have hit a sweet spot, no matter what i try with madVR and Lav i always get dropped frames and such, playback is good though

disable automatic exclusive mode. buggy with nvidia drivers.

for resizing, i use mitchel-netravali for chroma and spline for luma. set as desired though...

Since having to disable "use a separate device for presentation" (to stop black screen) also gets me playback with intermittent tearing (when fullscreen), I've been using the exclusive mode instead and it seems smoother. I'd still rather have things the way they were before though.

Leave Aero on, helps a lot for tearing.

So.. I've been reading about some people not being able to take screenshots with mpc-hc+madvr while others say they have no problems.
Is there any special configuration needed to not get the "GetDIB failed, hr=80004005" error? (on any files, mpc-hc 1.6.2.4273 + latest LAV decoders + haali splitter + madvr)

There is no problems... It just doesn't work :) From 1st post:
media player screenshot functionality not supported yet
Use 100% zoom + alt+prtscr ;)

what is the recommended budget videocard to use with madVR?

No need to cross post this question everywhere. :) See my answer in the LAV thread.

Trying that now, seems to help, but i'm still getting stutter during playback :(

CTRL+J shows dropped frames, maybe one every 10-20 secs or something. Exclusive mode doesn't drop frames, but i do get "presentation glitch" quite alot.

Tried resetting to default settings , seems to be ok now.

I notice that when I play on Potplayer certain Full HD videos, sometimes they play fine but when I reopen them somethings happens in MadVR that occupies 25 % of CPU usage even when video is idle.

In Windows XP. I tried reverting to old Nvidia drivers 285.58 but same problem.

I reset Madvr to default settings. Sometimes file opens immediately with low cpu usage and plays fine, but when I open it again it takes 10 seconds to open, 20 for the picture to appear with looping sound, then it plays smooth for 10 seconds, then it hangs for 20 seconds etc.

Hi there,

I love the quality of MadVR. However, when I play 29.970 (and uplcock it to 30.000 with ReClock) with my 60Hz monitor, I still get Presentation Glitches. When I convert the video to 60 fps, the presentation glitches are gone. So how come I can't play glitch-free 30 fps on 60 hz, but I can get glitch-free video with 60 fps on 60 hz. The same happens with 23.976 video (upclocked to 24.000) on 60 Hz, and get lots of Presentation Glitches. Sadly, my monitor does not support any other resolution. :(

What is your GPU, version of Windows, general madVR settings?

What is your GPU, version of Windows, general madVR settings?

I have GTX 470 (Driver 296.1), Windows 7-64bit, MadVR running in exclusive mode with 6 frames to present in advance. CPU and GPU cues are 12 and 8 respectively. Aero is disabled. Run presentation in a seperate thread is ticked. Running in windowed mode is the same if not worse. :(

UPDATE:
Ok, so the only way I got glitch-free video is when I switch to HDMI mode (my TV has native and HDMI support) and set MadVR to old presentation with 4 backbuffers in D3D11 mode. Now I can play 30 fps video on 60hz glitch-free. If I switch to native resolution (1360x768) OR if I enable present frames in advance I start to get glitches.

I cant help myself from wondering why i read about many problems with Nvidia cards, opposed to AMD cards. Is it because many more peope use Nv, or is it because users with AMD cards have less problems ?

Mangix
18th April 2012, 21:42
nope. it's just that nvidia focuses more on the gaming aspect of things and doesn't focus as much on video playback type stuff. AMD is just more balanced.

most of this is at the driver level btw. nothing wrong with the hardware.

madVR behaves more like a game then a video renderer, so your comparison is somewhat flawed. :)

There's really nothing wrong with nVidia and madVR. You just have to spend a little time configuring it a bit differently than you would for an AMD card. I have both, so, I've seen both sides of it. Quite frankly, when I replace my video card later this year, it'll be an nVidia card unless AMD pulls some magic out of a hat. Both are quite capable with madVR, however.

I was wondering why a certain advert was showing bad "steps" on someone's glasses on my main desktop. Turns out it was YADIF being a bit crap. I've now switched to using MadVR's deinterlacing (still being fed by LAV) and it looks much better. :)

I think for some of my files though it wouldn't deinterlace until I turned on "if in doubt, deinterlace".

The 680 is cutting edge right now. I've updated DG tools to support it, but I don't know if that is the case for the other CUVID-enabled tools.

Nev has a 680, so, yes. :) My plan is to get a 680 as I game on that machine. It's getting an Ivy Bridge 3770k as soon as Intel pulls the trigger and lets them loose on the world. I've got the ASUS Z77 mobo for it ready to go plus 16 gigs of ddr3 2100 ram. :D I can't WAIT to get it built, but, the video card will have to come a bit later. Probably this summer. Maybe nVidia will do a refresh and get us a slightly faster Kepler by then. But I definitely want their top of the line card when I'm ready to get one. My AMD 5870 that I got at launch has served me VERY well these past few years. However, in this latest round....king to nVidia. (Count of Monte Cristo reference. :D)

You paid like $380 for that top of the line card, right? The 680 doesn't even look like it's top of the line, and the actually top of the line 7970 came out at $550. Crazy bastards those guys, I can't afford any of the current cards, and I'm not paying the 7800 prices as they currently are!
