Reclock simply likes it "close enough" so you won't notice. It would change the audio speed less if you used a multiple of 23.976 Hz instead of 72 (at least for 24/1.001 fps content). Not that it is important, but Reclock is for when you cannot match your refresh rates, it is like smooth motion for the audio.
edit: actually that analogy isn't very good, Reclock cannot deal with 24 fps into 60 Hz but it is good for 29.97 fps at 60 Hz, where smooth motion is also good for preventing dropped frames. :o
So a refresh rate of 71.928hz will do better than 72hz? I mostly watch 23.976 content.

If you create your custom refresh rates in madVR, following madshi's tutorial for optimizing those refresh rates, you'll likely end up with a resolution that produces less than 1 repeated frame every 3-4 hours (or better). At that point, you'll have no need for Reclock.
One of the advantages of this is that by removing 32-bit Reclock, you can then use all 64-bit components in your playback chain.

That's good, but sometimes I watch tv shows at 25 fps, slowing them down to 24 fps with reclock.

Any chance there will ever be extra slots for different 3DLUT's? I have encountered several displays that require different 3DLUT's/calibration for different refresh rate modes. The 48/72/96Hz refresh rate modes on TV's without full calibration controls require re-calibration for that mode. I have a TV like that and I change change 3DLUT's in settings depending on whether I watch 23/24p content (48Hz mode) or 29/30/60p (60Hz mode) content, but it would be nice if madVR had the option to set specific 3DLUT's for specific display modes. I think 3DLUT option for 23/24p mode and 29/30/60p mode would be perfect!

Set speed step value in MPC-HC options to 4%. Then click reduce speed button to change 25.000fps into 24.000fps. The internal audio renderer does automatic resampling and pitch control.

make sure your device of choice doesn't have thermal throttling issues(sadly not uncommon for small factor intel devices) and you are not going to do more than FHD.The i7 models include a fan and 3 power modes one of which is "Best Performance" that runs the processor/igpu at full speed so no throttling. Don't know how loud it is though.
No more than FHD? Not 4k? The specs here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4039635/connect-surface-to-a-tv-display-or-projector?os=windows-10 show the Surface Pro can output 4k@60Hz 4096x2304. Are you saying the new Surface Pro 2017 with the configuration I'm thinking about w/i7, Iris Plus 640, 8GB isn't powerful enough to run madVR at 4k?

at UHD no i don't think this will work.
you need more than 2-4gb for vram leaving you with not much for the rest.
and these surface things likes to throttle too...
good luck with the boost clock of ~1000 mhz.

Hello everyone,
I have two short questions
1. I would know why madVR, when i use NGU 4x, after oversize, downscale image two times in luma y with some source resolutions?
https://i.goopics.net/V4R3v.jpg
2. Always with NGU 4x, with Low or Medium quality, chromaupsampling seems forced to Bicubic60 during the doubling/quadrupling process. Can i use "chroma settings" for entire chroma upsampling ?
https://i.goopics.net/a5GJR.jpg
Thanks you very much.

Aspect ratio correction. The doubling algorithms can only, well, double - they can't deal with rectangular pixels. So madVR has to adjust them at the end using an algorithm that can deal with them (like Bicubic150).

Hi :) I've a question here, just looking right now at a movie source.
As you can see there is a frame repeated every [...] seconds. And the value goes up so 1 seconds, 10 seconds, 43 seconds etc.
If I enable deinterlacing the counter goes down, so 40 seconds, 32 etc. [emoji848]
Why this?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180214/6b513d5366222250bb7ccd7c9744d1d3.jpg

Hi, I have a question about HDR: MediaInfo for Dunkirk UHD Blu-ray says:Mastering display luminance : max: 4000 cd/m2
Maximum Content Light Level : 323 cd/m2
Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 144 cd/m2
However, madVR's OSD is regularly showing much higher values than 323 cd/m2, and even the credits at the end with pale white text on black show 170-200 cd/m2.
Is the OSD 'correcting' the values somehow, or is MediaInfo reporting wrong values?

You're deinterlacing so you're doubling the frames presented and that will affect this, probably best to enable Smooth Motion.

I should enable or disable deinterlacing? For what I know I need it with video file, and this is movie [emoji848]
EDIT: Tested, same thing.
It's strange, it's movie so by default deinterlacing is off (I think this is the way), and if it's true I've this 1 frame repeated up or down with or without deinterlacing, the real dropped frame counter doesn't increase for all the length of the source. So I never encounter this "dropping" but madvr says to me that I could see him? [emoji848][emoji848]

It should always be enabled for interlaced content. When Smooth Motion is enabled then the dropped/repeated frame count is no longer accurate. How I know if a content is interlaced? I'm having confusion.
What of three options I need to set in smooth motion? I never used it before.
So with s. Motion enabled I can still see the voice '1 frame repeated every' but it's not relevant?
Don't understand, because with smooth motion off, as I always had, this '1 frame etc.' is constantly changing, but the 'dropped frames' are 0.
So, how i have 0 dropped frame in the end?
Why i need smooth motion, if without it dropped frame are 0? Always with this 1 frame drop every... Etc.
1 frame drop every..., but total dropped frame is always equal.
Lot of confusion [emoji848]

madVR has deinterlacing options under 'processing', it should be ticked to automatically activate, it will then use DXVA to deinterlace your content if it requires it.
Broadcast content is usually the main place you'll find interlaced content along with DVDs. You can check the properties of the file you're playing back to see this, Scan type: Interlaced
What matters are the actual frame drop/repeated results not what the calculator is saying.. and with Smooth Motion on it negates it anyway because it recreates enough blended frames to avoid the issue of dropped/repeated frames.

What happens if I use deinterlacing on a non-interlaced source both video and movie mode? Now I'm forcing movie one.
>Where I find the scan type?
>I still dont understand your last point:
"What matters are the actual frame drop/repeated results not what the calculator is saying.."
Calculator = total sum? Or the 1 frame repeated etc.?
If the first then why use s. motion at all if only the total result of dropped f. is important? In my case, 0?
If the second, i did not understood [emoji39]
"and with Smooth Motion on it negates it anyway because it recreates enough blended frames to avoid the issue of dropped/repeated frames"
But I enabled smooth motion to try it when you suggested, with deinterlacing on/off and I still see the x frame dropped every... With always 0 dropped frame (in total).
Can you explain these points?
Thanks! So glad I'm finally learning something and becoming a semi capable madvr user [emoji4]

If you encounter interlaced content frequently then I would select if in doubt activate. There is no "movie one" there is film and video.. if you have it on film it's not deinterlacing!
In most cases deinterlacing being turned on when with progressive content won't have any negative effects. Don't enable 'disable automatic source type detection' So it's only top and bottom boxes ticked only.
Scan type info like I said is in properties. Generally right click -> Properties or wherever your media player stores current file loaded properties. It's easy to see if a file is interlaced generally as there are combing artifacts visible throughout the entire frame.
You just want to achieve as little dropped/repeated frames as possible, if Smooth Motion gets you there and you're happy with the results just leave it selected and you don't have to worry.
Yes, madVR still displays 'frame dropped every' but it's no longer relevant.

>> So if I enable forced film mode, deinterlacing will never go active? Even if I select 'if in doubt activate?
With dvd discs, if I use film mode I've no frame dropped, so this forcing, and its IVTC operate like deinterlacing? What's different? Because the result is the same (0 frame dropped).
>> "Don't enable 'disable automatic source type detection' So it's only top and bottom boxes ticked only."
So I should re enable the automatic source type detection?
What are these top and bottom options I should enable?
>> I should enable s. motion with what option? There are three boxes I can active.
I don't understand how can '1 frame dropped every' became non relevant, what this means? Because with or without it I can see that the total of dropped f. is still 0. Uhm, because of the blended frames [emoji848]. But question remains, if is the result I need to look at, the result is total dropped frame 0, with and without S. Motion, so why enable/need it?
EDIT: My error, it doest says 1 frame dropped every... but 1 frame repeated every.
So where I can found the total of repeated frames?

I read
if in doubt, activate deinterlacing: [Disabled] deinterlace video not flagged as progressive.
So if i have a file that is not progressive, but for example constant, deinterlacing should be active. But it's not. It says off(says upstream). Why?
And if I enable deinterlacing with hotkeys I've dropped frames. Confusion [emoji848]

I think you need to google interlaced video. Deinterlacing doubles the frame rate but otherwise is not related to this frame drop/repeat rate madVR reports.

@Ryrynz said that I need to look at the source type to understand if I need deinterlacing.
Before I was forcing film mode. Now I re enabled the automatic source detection and was looking for this source type.
If that option i mentioned active deinterlacing when a source is not flagged as progressive, so I supposed that for every source that's not progressive the deinterlacing will be on.
I'm making confusion.
I said constant because I can read this in media info, i tested a file that was progressive. So testing a constant one I was expecting to see deinterlacing on.

madVR has a custom refresh rate tool if you want to match frame rates (devices -> display -> display modes -> custom modes)
However, if you don't notice a dropped or repeated frames then I wouldn't worry about it. For some reason madVR often does not report repeated frames in the OSD, there should be another line next to dropped frames for repeated frames. A repeated frame is one that is displayed for an extra monitor refresh to maintain audio sync.

By notice I meant actually notice the judder from them when watching, remember the OSD is off while you watch.
To tweak it use the custom refresh rate tool, that is what it is for. :)
Edit: To get the repeated frames line in the OSD I believe you need to use a refresh rate close to the frame rate. I think if the v-sync time is low enough that an extra monitor refresh is less than half a frame madVR doesn't report repeated frames. A single frame displayed for an extra 16.67 ms every few minutes is relatively subtle compared to the full 41.71 ms frame time, especially if you already have 3:2 judder from 24 fps @ 60 Hz.
If smooth motion does not look worse to you simply enable it and ignore this entire issue. I admit I switched back to using a custom 23.976 Hz refresh rate instead of smooth motion for 24/1.001 content but smooth motion is a great option that doesn't need tweaking or understanding the interactions of frame rates and refresh rates. Simply use "... or if the display refresh rate is an exact multiple of the movie frame rate" and smooth motion will run unless you are using a refresh rate that matches the frame rate. If you are using a custom 48 or 72 Hz mode then keep smooth motion set to "only if there would be motion judder without it...".

Reclock is fine if your display chain is all 32-bit. A 64-bit version is not planned. Custom refresh rates work best, however, and then you can use a fully 64-bit chain (assuming you're running on a 64-bit OS).

YesI don't understand this:
force film mode: [Disabled] force IVTC, reconstructing the original progressive frames from video encoded as interlaced, decimating duplicate frames if necessary. IVTC (either auto or forced) is not functional if using native DXVA decoding because madVR's IVTC algorithm runs on the CPU instead of the GPU.
So it's doing same thing deinterlacing does? What's the difference?

Madvr can change the refresh rate automatically, you just have to put this commands under the display modes of your display on madvr:
Example:
1080p23, 1080p24, 1080p60
Or
2160p23, 2160p24, 2160p60

This is the difference between telecined video (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine) and interlaced video.
Interlaced video was never progressive, at any point in time the camera only recorded every other line in the image. These half frames are called fields. This mean we need to create the other lines when displaying it on a progressive display. There are lots of ways to do this but all modern GPUs have a method built in so madVR simply gives it to the GPU (via DXVA2) which then returns progressive video at double the frame rate (it turns the fields into frames).
Telecined video was originally 24 progressive frames (film). It was changed to 30 interlaced frames by duplicating fields, creating new interlaced frames. Motion seems smoother than simply duplicating entire frames on interlaced displays (old TVs). We can perfectly undo the telecine to recover the original 24 progressive frames but madVR does this on the CPU so it needs copyback so the CPU has access to the video.
Madvr can change the refresh rate automatically, you just have to put this commands under the display modes of your display on madvr:
Yes, but the change takes time. It can be quite annoying to have your display flash for 1 sec every time you open and close a video when browsing through folders. As a compromise I only change refresh rates when I go full screen or close the player.
Dorohedoro
16th February 2018, 18:02
If you are going to browse through folders of, lets say, 23.976hz movies do not close your player, just open the next file and you will avoid that 1 sec flash.
And thank god you don't have a JVC projector, the refresh rate change can take sometimes almost 30 secs lol
Asmodian
16th February 2018, 19:06

Three questions:
1. So what happens if I force IVTC over an interlaced video?
2. I'm looking for some sources, if try to change the deinterlacing options with hotkeys madvr says that it's a video so deinterlacing is off by default.
But so, why madvr says 'movie (xx.xx fps) (says source filter) in the osd?
Should it says instead, video?
Maybe I'm doing confusion on this, because film is not same thing as movie. Right? And movie is not to be searched in the scan type right?
Where in the media info madvr reads this movie flag?
It's strange because with a source that's a movie and I know it, madvr says it's video so deinterlacing is disabled, and in the osd I says 'movie'.
3. I'm trying with some x265 files and in the media info I can't find if it's interlaced or progressive, like I did with no x265 sources. Why this?
With these files, enable or disable deinterlacing makes no difference. No dropped frame, as I experienced on DVD discs. I would expect frame dropped if I turn on deinterlacing on a source if it's video, even if it's x265. [emoji848]
And madvr says it's video, when I try to change deinterlacing options on the fly, so I expect a frame drop, and there is no one. Maybe x265 are different?

madVR doesn't know if a file is "video" or "film" the automatic detection doesn't work. the word movie in the OSD has nothing to do it can be replaced with file, stream, film, cinema and many other "names" he just choice movie and i agree on the choice.
1. it doesn't work on interlaced files it only works on PsF by doing nothing or telecine files.
2. if deinterlancing is used or not is desided by the frame rate and most important if the video stream says it is "interlaced" even an telecine stream will say it is "interlaced".
and now about your repeated frame stuff.
if the OSD show it has to repeat a frame every x you have to wait a long time until it happens i have not clue why you are mixing deinterlancing into this topic.

madVR doesn't know if a file is "video" or "film" the automatic detection doesn't work. the word movie in the OSD has nothing to do it can be replaced with file, stream, film, cinema and many other "names" he just choice movie and i agree on the choice.
1. it doesn't work on interlaced files it only works on PsF by doing nothing or telecine files.
2. if deinterlancing is used or not is desided by the frame rate and most important if the video stream says it is "interlaced" even an telecine stream will say it is "interlaced".

I'm talking about deinterlacing because these days I solved dropped frames with dvd discs disabling deinterlacing.
So I'm testing this stuff.
And I learned about IVTC.
But I'm not referring to that repeated frame right now. Mine are just general questions on the topics I'm talking about.
Referring to .1. I tried with a DVD disc to disabled deinterlacing and to force IVTC. And both solved the dropped frames with that dvd. So it works, as you say It shouldn't [emoji848]
And what about my 3rd. question?

Are you getting dropped frames simply because your settings are too hard for your GPU at the higher frame rates deinterlacing results in?
Average stats: rendering must be below the frame time (Y) reported in the line vsync Xms, frame Yms.

I don't think this is the problem, I have frame repeated every x seconds. and I correctly disabled deinterlacing over a DVD discs. Deinterlacing on was giving me dropped frame. I can have 0 frame dropped deinterlacing a progressive video? What's the use of this?
I don't understand your sentence.

If your GPU is too slow to render frames fast enough it will drop frames. Deinterlacing requires your GPU to render twice as many frames so it only has half the time to render each one before it starts dropping frames.
