I wanted to ask this.

IS there any way to supersample a very large image, or supersample an image to a very large resolution using madVR (regardless of how long it takes?)?

For example, I want to supersample an image of 1920x1080 to something much bigger than my monitor's resolution, like 7680Ũ4320, then output the resulting image to a file.

Any way I can do this using madVR?

madVR can only output to screen, not file.
You can use something based on AviSynth or the likes to output to files.

You can always use the player to ask madvr for resolution much larger than you monitor resolution using some sort of scale function. Then use player to capture the frame.

Two questions please....

1. Im using JRiver player with Madvr, and the JVC RS600 proj. To set contrast and brightness 16/235, do I turn that area off in the windows card settings and only use the settings in madvr or do I use both? Im wanting to resolve 17 and 234 so I should be using Limited, do I set Limited on both the windows and and the madvr end or just one?

2. I want to use/test sharpness settings for 1080p in madvr but JRiver has these turned off. I believe there is a way to get them to work with JRiver with some add on, can someone help me please?

Thanks in advance....

You have three options but, yes, you do need to set this value in madVR and the GPU control panel.

Thanks for the response but they say sharpness isn't available in madvr when using JRiver, they disabled it.

Sorry, I was replying to #1 and not #2.

I believe you can manually update the version of madVR used by JRiver, but you would have to research how to do this. It may be as simple as finding the madVR installation folder in JRiver and replacing it with a version downloaded from the first post of this forum. I'm not sure if you would have to run the install.bat. JRiver is simply using an older version of madVR.

Guys/Gals,
can somebody tell me which version of XySubFilter should it be used so I can benefit the most from madVR's options?
Will the latest one from here
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=168282
suffice?
I remember that some time ago madshi did some custom patching of this filter ... and I'm not sure from where to get his work ...
also is there a new/specific version that will work for 3D subtitles or all the heavy lifting is done by madVR and LAV filters?

I think that is the right place. If your version of XySubFilter is too old, madVR will provide you with a warning when playing a video. The latest version of XySubFilter should do all of the things you want it to when paired with the most recent versions of LAV Filters and madVR.

Madshi, would you create a modified edge thinning that only works on lines? Would be useful to have both enabled for animated content as I find edge thinning touching some background elements I'd not want thinned as much. Right now I'm getting some good results using awarpsharp and MADVR's line thinning together. There's also a simple Avisynth filter called coloryuv http://avisynth.org.ru/docs/english/corefilters/coloryuv.htm that changes color and luminance that would be a useful addition within madVR also.

A little update on Amd driver, 16.3 is slower than 15.12(11?) For me doing 1080 p to 4k nnedi32. But it fixed the 32 bit pot player crash.

How they make thing slower is beyond my thinking. Maybe it is my unlocked gpu core? Idk.

FYI latest MPC-HC nightly build (https://nightly.mpc-hc.org/) have included latest LAV Filters as well as 3D subtitle support for ISR.

"Command line to execute when this profile is activated".
But it doesn't seem to work.

That option launches a command in Windows proper, not MadVR commands. For example, you could tell it to execute "calc.exe" under profile conditions.
I suppose you could use that option to launch regedit.exe to load registry file with the settings you desire, but since MadVR is already loaded at that point, I don't think new changes would take effect until the next time MadVR loads (although that would only let you change gamma I guess and not the other things you wanted.)

So I guess you could use the profile hotkey for gamma, and in combination use the filename tags for the other parameters as a somewhat workaround(?)

where is the best place to set contrasts/brightness, in the card, madvr or on the projector?

I would choose the projector as this would impact sources other than the connected CPU.

That's odd... since I just did a roll back of my OS and freshly installed 15.12 with my current madVR settings and 15.12 couldn't handle those settings, but when I put 16.3 on, madVR was again working smoothly

System specs are in my sig

Well that's what I thought too when I installed Crimson 16.3 but now I'm back on AMD CCC 15.12.

- Using AMD Crimson turns on Crossfire Mode when it detects MadVR while AMD CCC does not.

- When in idle mode (desktop only) clocks are still locked at 1050mhz@v1.21 (wasting power and producing heat)

- Still suffers from occasional stutters unlike the last AMD CCC where everything is smooth and silky to games with the help of radeonpro

- I get good performance in MadVR using AMD CCC 15.12(11) and I can be sure that the video settings in AMD CCC are all turned off unlike in AMD Crimson.

I hope AMD apply all the good things that AMD CCC had and incorporate it to the AMD Crimson and I hope they properly fix the power-saving scheme that AMD Crimson suffers from. AMD CCC doesn't suffers from it so why fix what isn't broken in the 1st place?

I really do hope we had another GPU vendor other than these 2 (NVIDIA / AMD) idiots. So that they can up their game, hardware and software wise.

You should post your experience in their forums with as much information as you can provide.

Using LAV hardware decoding can lock your GPU clocks to something less than their max. Whether it does this, and by how much is entirely specified by the driver I believe. I run my GPU at 850/1250, but it'll only max at 725/1125 if I use DXVA. Furthermore, DXVA decoding taxes the GPU slightly more compared to software decoding (obviously).

i have 0 % GPU using in DXVA native running in benchmark mode.

but yes the clock speed can change a lot with DXVA my 6770 in the past lost about 50 % of his max clock.

Forced clocks with hardware decoding has historically only been an AMD/ATI problem, and I believe only on older generations as well.

Hi again madshi, I have been doing more tests. Without using NNEDI at all I get black screens too. I also tried to reset all to default settings and configure everything again and it happens anyway. Also I tried not using 10 bits output (using 8 instead) but it also happens. I am a bit clueless now on what it could be. Also last night when I was testing 8 bit, FSE flashed once showing windowed mode when I was watching a movie without touching anything.

I would like to know what alternative glitch hadling does, I have it unckecked.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

I have done more tests. 90.13 using D3D11 8bit exclusive mode works almost perfect, the only problem I had was that once I paused the movie and then queues didn't fill and I got dropped frames, but pausing and playing again solved the problem with dropped frames but queues didn't fill anymore through the whole movie. In 90.14 and 90.15 I got problems, the movie just crash or black screen with D3D11 (8 or 10bit). I didn't test D3D9 modes.

I would like to attach whole madvr settings but I don't know how to do it.

Thanks in advance. I will stick to 90.13 for now.

hI, with use only madvr is the best gtx 690 (with 2 GPU) or GTX 970? Madvr use dual GPU in gtx 690?
Thanks

Help Me please? Thank you!

970 dual GPU doesn't really work.

You can always use the player to ask madvr for resolution much larger than you monitor resolution using some sort of scale function. Then use player to capture the frame.

Thanks!

That sounds great, and I knew how to do this before, but I am not sure how to do this using mpc-hc, or if mpc-hc permits me to do this.

To capture images, I have been using print screen function until now.

I have made quite a collection of wallpapers based on screenshots of different anime, taken with frame precision (Mpc-hc permits navigation from frame to the next frame, which is great to find perfect wallpapers within movies and anime!)

potplayer have a option to save screen frame, mpc-hc seem to only capture source? frame.

Hi, I would like to know if anyone else is having problems with the latest version of madvr. It seems that I am the only one reporting black screens with this release. As you can read I have done a lot of tests. I am using latest stable releases of MPC-HC, Lav filters, xysubfilter and Reclock.

I've been having occasional black screens for quite some time (going back through many versions of madVR). This is usually when I start to play, although I've had 2 in the past during playback. I can't say for sure that it is madVR, however. I'm using ZP, LAV, xySub, NO Reclock. I am using NNEDI3 for chroma, I may try to change that and see what happens.

FWIW, I used to have intermittent black screen problems. The unlikely fix turned out to be returning madVR to default settings with the batch file, then re-entering my settings.

I have no idea why that worked (madshi said it shouldn't), but it did.

I don't have black screens but I have MPC-BE crashes. I tried reverting as far as the latest 0.89 and it doesn't seem to make any difference. No crash with EVR-CP, so it seems to be MadVR related even if it's MPC-BE that crashes. I also use NNEDI3 32 neurons for chroma, mostly playing bluray BD folders.

Usually it only crashes the first time I try to play a movie after a reboot. If I start exactly the same film, not doing anything in between, it works.

So it looks like an initialisation issue or something. Don't have the time to debug in the dark at the moment.

Thanks for your feedback guys. I was feeling alone :P. I also use NNEDI 32 for Chorma but the tests have shown that it is not related to scaling algorithms. It is more a FSE problem in my case, as it presents different behaviour between 8 and 10 bits.

Same here black screens in FSE from time to time

har3inger

Hmm. I only get black screens if my computer goes into sleep with a video paused. On wake, the video will play sound with a black screen.

It's probably an entirely different cause, because I use "use a separate rendering device", and that runs into problems if my discreet gpu goes into ulps from sleep and is turned back on. However, I mention it on the off chance this information might lead you towards solving your problems.

(@madshi, I'm not asking for a fix for the sleep black screen behavior. The problem very rarely happens and isn't really a bug of madvr anyways)

fedpul

I was trying to use MPC-BE but I got black screen in MPC-BE too. This problem has been introduced in recent versions of madvr, I tracked it to 90.13, didn't test 90.12 yet. But I think it needs to be fixed, beacuse it happens in every movie I play, and others are having troubles too. What I have found is not related to sleep pc or gpu driver trouble, it is in fact a problem in FSE recently introduced which wasn't present before, I will try windowed mode and if that works will try to track the latest version where FSE works. Thanks for your comments.

Hi!

So madVR doesn't have profiles as far as I know.
But is there a method/trick I can use to change settings quickly? I mean the scaling algorithms in particular.

I settled on something that works for me most of the time. But other times it gives me constant frame drops. Such as 60 fps, particularly if image resizing is also involved.

PS:
A "you get constant framedrops fool" alert might come in handy. I didn't realize a video was 60p because of the framedrops. (It was video game footage without motion blur, so less noticeable)

i having some micro stuttering when playng 23,976 content
i have i optimus system but nvidia 930m only render the video because the hdmi output from intel hd 5500
the display refresh is 23.97570, its possible to be this 00.00030 diference that causing the stuttering?
the best mode for me is fse d3d9, but i really don īt know, d3d11 with present a frame for every v sync changes my display behavior anda the refresh rate goes down a little
i tried wasapi from reclock and the exclusive mode from mpc-hc internal audio
reclock seens to be better but i still geting some stutering
its possible to be a v sync issue?
should i disable v sync on nvidia cp? because on intel cp donīt have a option to disable v sync, only app controled and driver controled..
itīs possible that the two drivers are perfoming v sync separately? like v sync are performanced two times one time for each driver?
on nvidia cp should i put single display perfomance, multi display perfomance or compability mode?
someone could help-me? i really don īt know what do to solve this... i tried everything, even smooth motion on 60 hz 72 hz 75 hz canīt solve this
thanks

Have you tried another renderer to see if the stutter is still present?

And this stutter persists, even when you use smooth motion?

I believe there is an issue with the way that level adjustments and gamma corrections are being processed.

I have a few Blu-rays here which have badly encoded levels, resulting in a washed-out image. (http://abload.de/img/source4tqwd.png)
To be displayed correctly, they need black level and white level adjustments, which I've applied using filename tags. (http://abload.de/img/correctednjrz1.png)
This works fine for full-screen playback, where I do not use any gamma correction.

However in windowed mode, I tell madVR that my display's gamma is 2.60 and have it set to use a 1.80 power curve - windowed mode is about clarity for me, not accuracy.
When applying this gamma correction, the letterboxing - and the video itself - ends up looking very washed-out again. (http://abload.de/img/windowed-gammaxeq08.png)

What should be happening is that the level adjustments are applied first, so that the letterboxing is made black, and then the gamma adjustment is applied - so it should look something like this instead. (http://abload.de/img/corrected-gammafcqz2.png)
To create that image, I just displayed the level-corrected screenshot (http://abload.de/img/correctednjrz1.png) in madVR using my typical windowed mode settings.

I thought that something was "off" about the way that the gamma correction behaved for a while now, but these Blu-rays with very badly encoded levels are what prompted me to investigate exactly what was happening.

What do you mean by profile in this case?

(I probably should have used the word "preset")
Keyboard shortcuts would probably work well if I could sot the same shortcut for multiple actions. (Although it complicates things that anti-ringing only has a toggle)

I could also make a .reg file if the settings weren't stored in a binary format in a single registry key.

You can configure profiles for different types of content.
See here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1271417#post1271417
Click "scaling algorithms" then click "create profile group" and so on.

If fse give you black screen with sound, typically try
1. Lower presented frame in fse
2. Lower the GPU queue

Greetings madshi,

thank you for your awesome work on madVR.

I have a source video with P010 (YUV 4:2:0 10bit) 16-235 HEVC 5.1 4K 59.94fps and I'm using a GTX 960 & Sony X850C 4K TV.
Sony reports the panel has "10bit driving of an 8bit panel (8bit + Hi FRC)" and at least it passed the test @ http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=172128.

I can either select Ycbcr420 with 12bit color or Ycbcr422 with 10&12bit color in the Nvidia control panel @ 59/60Hz. (Ycbcr444 & RGB modes at over 30Hz@4K have 8bit color only.)

Therefore, should I use 4:2:0 12bit or 4:2:2 10bit when I watch the video in the FSE mode?

Also, should I tick "disable GPU gamma ramps" @ Devices - Calibration and disable dithering @ Rendering - Dithering?

Thank you!

huhn
17th March 2016, 03:31
i would use 4:4:4 8 bit no question.

never disable dithering.

"disable GPU gamma ramps"
this is most likely doing nothing.
you need an to load an calibration file first too make use of this option.

Damie
17th March 2016, 04:12
i would use 4:4:4 8 bit no question.
Thanks, is this because MadVR's dithering is superior to TV's FRC (frame rate control)? So 10bit should be only used with a native 10bit panel?

Or even then, conversion from 4:2:0 to RGB/4:4:4 yields additional benefits?

By the way, the source video has also the BT.2020 color space, but I guess this works fine in 8bit mode too? (Gotta manually enable BT.2020 mode from TV settings, Auto detection is not working).
