Hi, by definition shouldn't exclusive fullscreen mode not allow any other windows to appear over the exclusive image. This isn't the case always. Today I had Ember Media Manager scraping in the background to update my nfo files, and watching a movie with madVR / mpc-hc.
The status updates from Ember Media Manager were semi visible over the fullscreen exclusive mpc-hc / madVR window. CTRL-J confirmed this. Can madVR be forced into not allowing anything appear on top of the fullscreen window, and be forced to not allow any other software to ever bring it out of fullscreen mode.
Now after I closed mpc-hc strangely my Windows 7 desktop hasn't reverted to aero mode. Its gone to the simplified / none aero gui. Will try a reboot to see if I get back to aero mode.
Using Windows 7 64bit, Nvidia GTX 295
EDIT:Reboot brought back aero.

Changing madvr settings do not stick from one video to the next, any idea why? OS: W7 Ult x64
My devices are always back to unkown and "use exclusive mode" always back to enabled, frustrating.
I tried searching this thread but came up without results.
EDIT: reason to disable exclusive mode is that on going fullscreen, even if the video is on the second monitor (the plasma), it goes fullscreen on the first (the lcd), leaving some strange rendering on the second - it does not do that in windowed mode.
I get this too on the same OS. It's because madVR is trying to save the settings into its own program folder rather than the user's folder.
I found a workaround - launch mpc-hc as adminstrator and set your settings then - only way for it to "stick".

first, THANKS to madshi for this great renderer!
when madvr is activated, madhcctrl.exe tries to connect to 235.117.220.191 on udp port 51591 screenshot here http://clip2net.com/s/JRtb
i searched the forum and found no trace of this ip, port, and protocol (they don't change), so i am assuming i'm the first one to notice AND at the same time report it here. i've downloaded the file from the link in the first post.
can someone confirm this sha1sum: 89d3aa59901bf11e90309b368a1e39ec5cefeac6 *madVR.zip
if yes, could madshi answer why is this happening without user consent
thanks.

235.x.x.x is Multicast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast) address space, not internet. It's used for madVR's network features, and you are not the first person to mention this. Search for "firewall" in this thread and you should find more discussion on it.
Please read net-protocol.txt which is included with madVR as well. That explains what madVR is doing, and it's nothing malicious or harmful.

that would explain all the dubious movies starring midgets on my HDD lately. madshi, THIS IS NOT FUNNY :p
and to avoid being completely OT, everything works beautifully for me on XPSP3 using CoreAVC CUDA and all..amazingness all the way

I was thinking of going with NVIDIA for my next GPU, mostly to get back hardware acceleration in madVR via CUDA, and I was wondering....
Are there any MPEG-2 or VC-1 decoders that can use CUDA?

Can anyone tell me why madVR might be grayed-out for me in MPC-HC? I've tried searching around for an answer but everything I find has to do with 64-bit MPC-HC and I'm using 32-bit. I use to have it working on a previous installation but I can't imagine what I've done differently this time as all I did was install the install.bat file with administrator privileges. I installed the 0.36 version linked on the first page. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and the latest MPC-HC.

I'm not sure where would be appropriated to post this, so I'll share my experience with follow madVR users first.
I just installed Catalyst 11.1a hotfix today and proceed to make sure I set pixel format to full range rgb. After that I was wondering why the color looks weird. Then I realized this is actually the first time I see full range on my projector, or at least this is what I think. Can anyone else try and tell me your result as well? If this is tell then I feel very cheated. I missed out a lot this half past year and going to have to rewatch a lot of stuffs. :(

There is a new version of CoreAVC being released (version 2.5) for AMD/ATI cards, but I don't know the first one will use CUDA. I think it'll use DXVA at first, so not sure if it'll work with MadVR.

CoreAVC has always used CUDA, and it works just fine with madVR. The next version adds DXVA support, which works on non-NVIDIA cards as well, but DXVA does not work with madVR. So nothing changes for NVIDIA users, we still get CUDA accelerated decoding with CoreAVC, and nothing changes for ATI users, they still have to use software decoding. (All assuming one wants to stick to madVR)
But as the name suggests, it only works with AVC (aka. H264). My HTPC is beefy enough to software decode any required format, but i guess it would be a nice addition one day.
Or madVR could support DXVA2 one day... :)

I'm using madVR with MPC-HC, dual screen setup, with video playing second screen, exclusive mode.
I notice that mpc-hc-exe is using a whopping 247M while playing a 720p mkv. Using EVR with same file, mpc-hc only uses 77M. Is this unusual?

It's normal if you are using a 3DLUT. Without a 3DLUT, memory usage should be only be ~10MB higher then EVR.

My video card is ATI 5450 + W7.
Madvr reports that my refresh rate is 23.978 but not exactly 23.976. And EVR CP (MPC HC) reports the same.
Does anybody have 23.976 exactly?
What card do you use?

in KMP when you disable video displaying (minimize window to audio-only) with tilda button "~" it stops with an error and doesn't want to play further

AFAIR, madVr takes this value from decoder. So you better look into pin-info of decoders/splitters.

The number at the very top of the stats beginning with display and ending with Hz is your calculated refresh rate to 5 decimal places.
Since this isn't the first time I've heard of an ATI card using 23.978Hz refresh instead of the optimal 23.976Hz, nlnl is probably referring to the correct number.

Also displays don't run at exact 60Hz or so, right? 50.9Hz or so isn't unusual I think.

Hi Guys,
First let me say i love the outstanding Quality of MadVr :)
But i have huge Problems to get Subtitles work with it, in all Medias (DVDs, MKVs, Bluray)
Im using MadVr 0.36, MPC HC, FFdshow as Decoder
Is there a good Tutorial out there?
thanks in advance,

Basic info is that you can't use MPC-HC internal sub renderer. You can choose between enable subtitle in ffdshow, or install seperated VSFilter. Personally, I prefer the later, as for whatever reason, ffdshow sub rendering seem like an "outdated" version of VSFilter for me. Not that VSFilter has been updated lately, of course.

17ms is still less than ~42ms for ~24fps video, so I think it should be alright. (going by those numbers, at least)
More importantly, how does the video look? Is there noticeable lag?

No,nothing except that the rendering times are multiplied by three when I switch from window to Exclusive (This is when very little resizing is required).
If I downscale 1080p to 1280*720,W to Exclusive rendering time is only multiplied by two...
Reinstalled madvr 0.36,didn't make any difference. What is happening ?

I have a question to all experts out there :/
Im using KMPlayer 3 without any codec pack, i used to have shark007 x64 Win7 which i removed after KMPlayer updated to v3 with madshi built-in.
I was trying to see the differences between VMR9 renderless and madshi and the screenshots i took using both renderers are identical. How is that possible ? and im sure i changed the renderer proper because of the aero effect disable.
After that i changed the default input codec which was libcodec to mpeg4s dmo and the screenshots i took have a few differences with the vmr9 looking better for me.
I have uploaded the screenshots for u to see here (http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/25429/picture:0)
source file used for is a DivX5 avi 640x352
comparison 1 is input libcodec output madshi and VMR9 renderless
comparison 2 is input mpeg4s dmo output madshi and VMR renderless
dont forget to click on #2 and see the second image set
btw.. ofc you cannot watch movie with mpeg4s dmo even if the "still" picture looks better in the screenshot its a total mess on moving, like im watching youtube old videos :p
oh i forgot the question: 1) how can i bee sure that im using madshi (even detail info TAB shows only YV12) and 2) can you suggest me a setup to use with KMP3 that will have the best image quality output to my 1080p monitor? im using a laptop VPC F11M1E

I don't think that's the case. It just works over the top of Aero. I have a test file which shows some of the stuttering associated with aero on even when I run with FSE.
I've managed to get everything smooth by running Aero off + FSE with MadVR.

Aero is not turned off in exclusive mode. But turning it off may help gain fluidity in FSE for people that are having problems getting a smooth output.

Agreed, though for me its the opposite, I have to have aero enabled in FSE to get smooth playback.

My i5 2300 sandbridge with onboard vga is sadly not fast enough to support any upsampling, for instance 720p to 1080p i get a lot of dropped frames. I already increased rhe memory to 480 mb but sadly to no avail.
After some experimenting i came to the conclusion that if i switch either chroma upsampling or luma upsampling to bilinear i get smooth playback so clearly the shaders aren't fast enough.
The normal trade quality for performance options do not help at all.
So which will have the largest impact on the picture quality a lower chroma upsampling quality or a lower luma upsampling quality ?

Do you think a K-series Sandy Bridge will handle the "better" resizers? It should have twice the GPU power compared to the non-K (2 posts above).

well there seems to be something odd as my old i3 clarkdale with integrated vga was better and faster with madvr then the new i5 sandbridge, which is odd as the i5 sandbridge has more memory 480 opposed to 128mb on the i3 and it is a lot faster.
I retested today and i cannot enable any of the up samplers other then bilinear when i upscale a 720p movie to 1080p a bit disappointed with this as i had hoped the i5 would do better instead it did wurse.
i guess i have to abandon upscaling with madvr maybe let ffdshow do this.

It's a high end video renderer, you need a high end video card.
I got an ATi 4850* specifically for madVT - it works well.
*Had to 4xxx series ATi as I need to use Powerstrip.

If you put all the scaling pressure on the cpu then you might be able to get away with a slightly slower gpu.

Yes i understand this, as my very nice htpc casing only accepts a low profile graphics card, madvr scaling will not happen, the only low profile vga card i found powerfull enough to do this sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
So unless someone knows a passive cooled low profile vga card which is powerfull enough to do 576i to 1080p upscaling, madvr scaling isn't gonna happen sadly. As a noisy htpc is unacceptable for me, my current system is absolutely silent if u stand more then 30 cm from it, only a very slow rotating large cpu cooler is in the case.
That is unless madshi makes a option to oflload the scaling to the cpu, as a modern cpu is more then capable of this.
Thnx for the link on the scaler dansrfe :)
i will also try this guide http://www.homecinema-hd.com/intro_en.html and offload the scaling to ffdshow to see if i could get a acceptable result.

madVRs whole point is using the GPU for the scaling. There already are numerous CPU post-processing features in ffdshow and other decoder/post-processing filters. You probably want them to do the RGB conversion though, so you wouldnt be able to use madVR at all with them.

Ex. : from ATI 5570(very low profile), 5670 or even 5750
if you like nvidia gts450 is very good

Thank u for the suggestions if i wan't to maintain the same hqv score as the sandybridge (for bluray playback in tmt5 ) i minimal will need a passive low profile 5670 any suggestions more then welcome :)
How much power will the card pull, meaning if i go for the 5670 how much gpu load can i suspect by up converting from pal to 1080p. As my passive psu has not a lot of headroom left.
And if i wan't to offload the scaling to the cpu what is the best (meaning best video quality solution ) for instance ffdshow spline or is there something better and what will be the downside to the madvr solution, bare with me i am pretty new in the htpc world. My pch c200 didn't need this much attention :)
