Can you other guys please also test and report audio/video sync? Thanks...
I noted desync issues with some damaged .ts files but have tied to issue to LAV Filters. Switching back to Matroska splitter solves the problem.
It seems like LAVF goes through both streams (video, audio) separately. When there is a glitch in the video and you miss some frames, the audio playback is completely unaffacted.
With Matroska, the video glitch would cause a small cut in the audio so that the whole remains synchronized.

Windows Lock/Unlock with madVR running bug is annoying me like crazy :( please fix it madshi
Quit the whining please...
madshi, the locking issue is probably related to the UAC issue which I've reported 2 years ago. You tried to fix but it didn't work out. My wild guess is that there's some Win32 API call that stops all drawing operation (freezing the desktop momentarily) when the screen dims during a UAC prompt or locking resp. unlocking the desktop. madVR doesn't like that and can't recover from it: render and backbuffer queues deplete to zero while the decoder and upload queues stay filled.
The UAC issue can be "solved" by either disabling UAC or setting it to "Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop)".

but my monitor is 1920x1200
could this be the issue?
is there a way to get 1920x1200 24hz?
EDIT: nvm... its that my monitor is 60hz isnt it not 120...
Try to see if your monitor can accept the 1920x1200 48Hz mode. (either 48.000 or 47.952Hz)
If it works, it should be the better choice for FILM contents on your monitor.
If your monitor or display driver cannot do something like "Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio", your monitor with 1920x1080 video signal obviously cannot show 1-to-1 pixel mapping on the screen. Then you still need to choose 1920x1200 modes.
But it often does not change the regular LCD panel's driving characteristics if it is always fixed at 60 Hz. Mine is Samsung 203B with custom mode at 1400x1050 72Hz. I am not sure if the panel driving frequency is also increased or it is still at 60Hz.
Another example is my Hitachi PDP TV. The panel driving frequency is always at 60Hz for all modes. It only has an option to change the driving characteristics for PAL 25/50Hz contents. Yet for the FILM type contents, the 24Hz video signal input still gets the better visual quality because the TV can optimize its Telecine process with native interlaced driving panel. (like 1080i CRT)
The UAC issue can be "solved" by either disabling UAC...
Easy to check by stopping UAC in services.

I disabled UAC 5 minutes after putting Windows 7 on my laptop over 6 months ago. That's not the issue. In fact madVR woudn't do this pre v0.52 or something like that.

Using madVR 0.61 with "all latest": MPC-HC 1.5.1.2903, CoreAVC 2.0.0 and LAV Splitter 0.25 on Windows 7 32-bit using an ATI Radeon 4350 (Catalyst 11.4), I'm unable to get madVR to display subtitles from MPC-HC. Tested using plain old SRT subtitles and embedded MKV subtitles.
If I switch to EVR, subtitles are shown ; if using madVR, they aren't (windowed and exclusive mode).
It seems the subtitles aren't passed from MPC-HC to madVR.
Any ideas on what's going on? Do I need to configure anything for this to work?
Bit OT, but THE latest are:
MPC-HC 1.5.2 Build 3096 (http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-classic-home-cinema-x86-x64/media-player-classic-homecinema-x86-x64-1-5-2-3096.html)

Now that I changed my fixed-60Hz LCD to a Plasma TV (Samsung PS51D550C1W), the automated refresh rate changer is very useful for me.
I labeled my HDMI input as "PC", so a 60Hz signal causes real RGB processing while 24 and 50Hz signals trigger the cadence correct playback modes. They are unfortunately use YCC 4:2:2 processing, but the overall experience is still better than I previously had.
But it would be nice to output YCC 4:2:2 from my VGA. :) But I know it's not possible... :(

Make sure you're using a current version of MPC-HC and that your decoder outputs to a supported color space. madVR does not support RGB.

now i can see my stats they show no dropped frames apart from some on start up and no glitches. i assume this is good :)
i do get the repeat frames every 16-20 mins or so though. what is this?
also i had so many troubles with refresh rates etc that after many years i have stopped using Reclock. instead i set the refresh rate to the exact same as the source material and so far it looks good
do many still use Reclock?

I have a strange interaction with LAV CUVID Decoder. It seems that when exclusive mode is used, the double framerate option on interlaced material (in LAV CUVID Decoder) causes MadVR to indicate dropped frames. As soon as windowed mode is activated that stops, same if I disable double framerate in exclusive mode.
Since there is definitely no smoothness problem, I feel like MadVR it's either discarding the extra frames served by LAV CUVID or it's somehow reporting them as "missed" or something...
Sorry, I'm no coder :)

If it is going to work at all, you will probably need to use VGA for 72Hz. (48Hz seems unlikely)

Im gonna run a test again but for 72Hz in 1080i instead of 720p. Did you mean VGA for the cable or just my settings? : /

If you're lucky, it will *maybe* sync to 48Hz, as it's so close to 50, but that does not guarantee smooth playback. Use 720p, not 1080i.
Your best bet is to try a VGA cable for 1360x768@72Hz, but I cannot say if it will work.

went back to cinema pc which has an ATI card and must admit there is a difference but nowhere near what i was expecting and this is on a 100" new PJ
does nvidia perform better?
also another point is that the auto refrsh rate does not work with DVD's yet is fine with other 25fps avi's

Well here's an odd thing (and annoyance). I had things running just fine and dandy with MadVR 0.61 (either version). But now since Win7 took a dump on me and I got it back up and running it's been rather flaky. Now whenever I try to exit MPC-HC (any build) it won't exit. The video vanishes from the secondary display but the audio continues and all processes including MadVR are still working in the background. I have to kill MPC in task manager.
I tracked it down to two things. DX9 mode does it but DX11 does not and Direct3D being ticked in MPC when running DX9 mode does not do it. It only does it with DX9 mode with Direct3D left unticked regardless of all the options I have tried (Like changing builds of MPC, settings for fullscreen, Disabling external filters and ReClock etc etc ad nauseam). Also did a clean boot to make sure it was not a background process interfering.
It's all very strange since I cannot for the life of me figure out what's changed.
BTW no problems with DVD's and MadVR that I can see. I tend to remux them to MKV or TS files anyhow.

i'll provide all the information here
problem : Blank Screen with sound in MPC -HC ( using High Performance Mode / AMD Radeon 6630 )
my conclusion : seems like MadVR can not detect AMD Radeon , since if i change MPC - HC priority to Power Saving ( using Intel ) the same video play flawlessly except stuttering ( maybe not powerful enough to play my Bluray rip video )

Anybody getting smooth playback WITHOUT Reclock, just using the refresh changer to get the fps correct
That really depends how close your refresh rate is to the frame rate of the video.
For instance, for 23.976fps video and ~23Hz set for my monitor, madVR detects that my screen's refresh rate is actually 23.971Hz or something like that which makes for 1 frame drop every ~8 minutes or so.
Is that what you meant, or is there some bug with the refresh changer?
Yes, works very, very well for 23.976Hz and 23.976fps material, without Reclock in MPC-HC and turning jRiver's MC VideoClock OFF. However, my preferred playback for 23.976fps material is to set my HDTV to 24Hz and use Reclock in MPC-HC and VideoClock in MC16.
As a side note, I've seen around that it's not possible to get precise 23.976Hz on a monitor with the various video cards. I guess the operative term is "precise" and how close it really needs to be. I can't speak to others, but my main test machine has an HD2600XT, I have another machine with a HD5670 (1GB) and access occasionally to a machine with a 4770 and they all drive the respective HDTVs (LG) to very close to 23.976. madVR reports something like 23.976663.

I can get pretty good playback without reclock, maybe one drop every hour or so. But i do not use the refresh changer, i manually switch it because on 24p mode i also need a tiny registry tweak to enable audio delay, and disable it on 50p or 60p again. :)
I'm on a NVIDIA GTS 450 in my HTPC, and the 24p mode (23Hz in windows settings) gives me something like 23.9765~
(Custom resolution with a bit tweaked timings)
I do however use reclock, because it fixes that last bit of timing precision as well, and offers me the ability to use WASAPI for audio, so DirectSound keeps its hand off the audio and doesn't resample it.

Huh, I just realized that MC16 is doing what ReClock does with "videoclock". Great that companies are paying attention to features like that. Anyway, madshi posted (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=62727.msg420357#msg420357) some timings to make Nvidia and ATI cards (with Powerstrip) more precise over at the JRiver forums. My 5770 reads 23.97593 or so in madVR so that's good enough for me, but lately I'm using ReClock and decoding as well. I think the only reason not to use ReClock (or I presume videoclock) is if you want to bitstream.
pacemaker1000
11th May 2011, 14:34
i have an ati card which shows in mpc as 23.977
i thought i had cracked it without reclock but watched a sd dvd with TMT( have no way of telling what its outputing) at 50Hz and had odd stutter.
could be somrthing else though i read somewhere about the account settings and aero effecting it
am i wrong to think reclock degrades audio?
i use spdif out so use the ac3 encoder which i thought would be worse as in effect i am decoding it with the player then re-encoding it to send it to my amp?
Andy o
11th May 2011, 14:47
This issue shouldn't lead to stuttering, just a brief hiccup, sometimes even unnoticeable depending on the scene. I've had stuttering playing at 23.976, blu-rays in TMT3. I think ReClock can fix that. IIRC somebody told me it was because the card's refresh rate is so close to the video rate, but I don't remember that explanation in detail.
ReClock resamples audio. "Degrade" is technically correct, in that it's not digitally exactly the same, and in that it cannot be "improved", but in all likelihood it's not audible. BTW your audio is very likely being resampled in your receiver as well. Resampling sometimes gets a bad rap from audiophiles, but then again they're the ones buying multi-hundred dollar speaker wire, so you decide! Also suspect is that many who complain about these things don't believe in double blind tests.
So, unless you hear specific artifacts, I wouldn't worry.
