@madshi : no chance to undestand why madvr's HDR switching is so weak with amd cards ? and why it changes driver by driver even the SO manual switch works with all amd drivers.
btw i also have the color supersaturated (specially reds) if i use FSE and 8 bit videos played on 10 bit TV, with windowed all is working perfectly (this issue is not a problem for me because I'm good with wondowed).
thank you

Just installed 18.9.2 for my Radeon RX480 8GB, did a complete reset of madVR settings just to be sure, configured new and it is working perfectly, HDR switching is working fine for me as it did the past month with everytime the newest driver of its time (also optional versions).

Thanks for the new release, much appreciated!
Also a release of U.P.R.M. v1.0 Final
short for "Universal Planet Rescue Mission" would be awesome! :D
A good laugh... (http://trumpdonald.org/)

Good to know that driver is all working but please can you check for the oversaturation issue we both have, you may have to be in bluray mode rather than PC mode on your TV though.

Thanks for confirming the the oversat issue, what do you mean by windowed, windows overlay in MADVR? or windowed mode in your movie player, or something else, the only workaround I can really use is claibrating my TV for BT2020 in MADVR

* fixed: rendering and present queues didn't fill correctly when using D3D11 for presentation
It probably wasn't expected to, but just to confirm, this doesn't fix my issue with the present queue not filling up in Windows 10 r1803 (but then, using D3D9 mode never fixed that for me either).
Just to illustrate the problem, on a 1080p video displayed at 100% (only chroma upscaling active), NGU Anti-Alias low gives me rendering times of 1.38ms but the present queue doesn't fill beyond 10-11/16. With medium quality I get rendering times of 1.55ms and the queue doesn't fill beyond 6-7/16.
I just noticed that having a background process active that uses a lot of CPU makes the problem worse, but MPC-HC is only using ~9% CPU normally. I'm on a Ryzen with 16 logical cores, so could it be doing something single-threaded that's maxing out one of the cores? I wonder if something is quietly producing a ton of errors or warnings and creating a CPU bottleneck.

Since I am on Win10 1803, FSE isn't real FSE anymore, like huhn several times posted.
My TV is set to Gaming Mode, so all the crap like motion interpolation, ... is off, PC mode is also off.
Please check your Output settings in driver:
- resolution
- bit depth per color
- pixel format -> RGB or YCbCr and also limited/full

Since it is a Samsung series 7 from 2016, I had to rename the HDMI port to the predefined name Bluray player, is that right?
I couldn't see any difference, it is fine here, too. I set it back to my preferred mode. If you want me to test anything else, let me know.
Why do you use 8 bit? HDR should be 10 bit, isn't it?

Not sure to be honest, the HDMI ports usually have a mode you can select as well as a rename.
I just use 8 bit desktop, it should switch to 10 bit automatically when a movie plays. I also get the problem if I set my desktop to ybcr 10 bit 4:2:2 / 4:2:0 etc.

It got also another icon - a blu ray standalone player in my samsung when I selected that mode. Another name of a preset is PC, so I think it is the pc mode, but I don't use it. My older LG TV has similar presets to choose.
I use just straight HDMI and Gaming mode to ensure true framerate of the files, not soap opera.
I went to a local TV store, and saw that every TV, it doesn't matter if it is OLED, LCD with LED backlights or the manufacturer like Samsung, LG, Philips, Loewe, Panasonic, Sony, ... the motion interpolation get sometimes stuck, because the scene changes. It looks awful. I only want to see the true encoded frames. ;)

Hi, yes I know why poeple dont tend to use anything but game and PC mode but i'm asking you to try it because i'm trying to find out if there is a subset of AMD users with the oversaturation problem, if there are more people there is more chance MADSHI will be able to work out where this is coming from and maybe find a workaround, or can suggest something I can take back to AMD to have them look at.
it may even just a subset of some HDR tv's

I'm glad and good to know for you is ok, unfortunately we are more than one with the same problem: we need to cherry pick a driver that works.
would be great to know how you have configured your madvr. maybe we have different setups.
how can you be sure that is not madvr issue, maybe in some cases the switch require to be fired before refresh change or after or it's just matter of something else.
At any case "work in my machine" doesn't help in software development.

411.63 broke NV HDR for me. When starting an HDR video the TV flashes the HDR icon a few times but then returns to SDR mode. Went back to 399.24 and it's working again.
OS HDR still works with 411.63 though.
This is on Win10 1803, 1050Ti, LG Oled C8.
Anyone able to confirm the broken NV HDR with 411.63?

I exported my settings to ini, made sure that settings were to be saved to ini via general settings and then deleted the ini keeping the exported one to copy whatever I needed from it into a new ini if required. It appears I have everything I wanted already stored in the BE registry keys so I didn't need to do anything after that, I'll get aleksoid to look into it though this isn't the first issue I've had with BE and it's settings.

Thanks for confirming. I'll figure out what's going on. I'm currently having nVidia driver issues (go figure) and am reverting to the previous version to see if it fixes an HDR issue I'm having. After that I'll look at this subtitle thing again.
Yup now working fine for me! Looking good so far :)
That's great! I'll figure out what's going on once I get this HDR thing sorted out.
EDIT: Stupid MKV's. For some reason it wasn't selecting the forced sub track automatically. All problems solved. Thanks guys!

Hi, no point really, its immediately apparent with any movie you play when you have the problem, the colours are very saturated especially red.
to recap - to reproduce this with your setup you will need:
TV - setup in BLURAY mode rather than PC
TV - deep colour must be on
PC - desktop must be 4:4:4 FULL RGB 8bit - 2160p
PC - Movie must be SDR and play at 2160p@23hzhz (23,976)
AMD RX card, any driver.
MADVR - TV output set to 10 bit
MADVR - FSE has to be on (I think, i'll test this later)
MADVR - tick use DIRECT3D11

@mclingo
this problem happens with MPDN if i remember correct yes?
first issue i see here. you tell people to use 8 bit output at the GPU but madVR is supposed to output 10 bit.
the issue i see here is that AMD is going to "fix" this and there is nothing madVR can do about it.
the steps i see to isolate this issue are:
GPU at 23p 10 bit RGB madVR at 8 bit
GPU at 23p 10 bit RGB madVR at 10 bit
GPU at 23p 8 bit RGB madVR at 10 bit
GPU at 23p 8 bit RGB madVR at 8 bit
everything points at the GPU driver or display but...

I'm sure I read here you can get 10bit in windowed mode on Windows 10... how?
1. You need 10 bit display -> see EDID in madVR options in properties of device.
2. If your display supports 10 bit, madVR should with default setting "auto" 10 bit windowed. It does it also here, so it is working fine.
huhn
20th September 2018, 16:07
the display edid or bit deep has nothing todo if you are able to use 10 bit windowed.
in the end madVR is not sending the image to your display it is sending to the GPU driver.

I've been using madVR v0.92.14 with no problems. I just installed the new madVR v0.92.15 released today carrying over settings from v0.92.14. MPC-HC starts with a black screen and no OSD. I assume it is paused which it is and I press play even though there is no OSD. My display flashes into HDR mode. Audio begins and the picture is frozen on a single frame. If I navigate forward or reverse, the movie begins to play normally. So I start with MPC-BE instead and none of this funny business occurs. It just starts and plays like it should. Both MPC players use identical settings. I'm using the latest current nightly builds of each. Both players performed as expected before upgrading to v.0.92.15 fwiw.
I have upgraded to v.0.92.16. The above ^ still occurs and there is no change. This behavior occurs on all formats and containers (HDR, SDR, ISO, MKV, etc).
I have always used LAV D3D11/auto. If I switch to DXVA 2 copy back/GTX 960, at least the MPC-HC OSD is present but without fail, it starts paused.
To be clear, this is not a complaint and just presenting a bug. Very appreciative madshi continues development and all of us hamsters would be lost without madVR and madshi's continued dedication. Thank you.

As stated, I am and always have used LAV Filters and yes of course, they are all set to preferred. They are updated and replaced into the MPC-HC LAV Filter x64 install folder as well. Fwiw, I have always used 5 players for testing and usage over the years and have a fair idea of the basics for all of them. Everything I use is the latest release preferring its nightly except nVidia GPU drivers which continue to be flawed since v.385.28.
