Whats a better upgrade path to get Madvr and SVP/FI on 1080p? 100$ for a more expensive CPU or 100$ for better GPU.

I bought a i3 2300 and a 5450. Its not enough, I'll return it and buy something better.

Please give suggestions.

return the 5450, buy a nvidia gt 430 ( zotac has a passive one), and use it to run lav cuvid with madvr.

what exactly does it do differently try changing to another version of mpc-hc, maybe its a bug. or try complete uninstall and then reinstall mpc-hc again.

Ah, it works. I downloaded 3112 and 'installed' it instead of unzipping it into a folder, so I'm not sure which actually resolved the problem. But now I have tearing instead

what exactly does it do differently compared to the normal madvr version?

Process priority is set at maximum with that build.

Hmm seems like its bin a while since there have bin any updates to madvr. Any1 know anything?

VSync thread priority is set to maximum. madVR's five other threads are unchanged.

I said I was going out of town this past 3 weeks, so madshi decided to take a break from madVR development as well. :p

No, seriously, this is more the norm for madshi. Frequent releases are a special treat, a new build ever few months or once a year is what you should get used to. Right now he is probably just trying to get his mind off the stressful work needed to troubleshoot and fix all those bugs and issues people reported over the last few revisions. Who knows, maybe he got really really bored and started coding up GPU deinterlacing algorithms, 3D support, or yRGB support. New features are always more fun than bug-fixing. ;)

Is there a workaround to use madvr with WMP12 bypassing the built-in EVR?

No, WMP cannot use any other renderer.

my display will do 1080p50, is there a way to get madvr to switchto that for 25p content? I've added that mode to the list but it does not switch.

lol. nevermind. started working.

I'm having a problem when using MadVR in MPC-HC. When I start a movie, MadVR will change the refresh rate from 60p to 24p and that's where the problem starts. The pictures color is way off. Like if you seperated RGB and the Green color was a full 1-2" off on the display. Looks like a badly converged CRT. However this ONLY happens after an auto refresh rate change. If I start a movie and the refresh rate of my screen already matches the mkv, then the picture is fine! Does anyone have any insight? My video card in an AMD Radeon 6850. Also using LAV Splitter if that makes any difference.

I had the same problem you described and found a couple of problems with MPC-HC. First try deselecting autochange freq in the fullscreen options of MPC-HC. If this does not fix your issue, it may be caused by one of your external filters. Try disabling your external filters one by one until problem clears. Hope this helps.
Perhaps as more people use MPC-HC with madvr, the codecs and settings will become standardized and easier to setup.

I actually prefer fewer updates. Who really wants to uninstall and reinstall madvr every few days? :p

Depends! Does it fix bugs or add awesome features? :-)

Hi again!

All worked well, but this time MPC crashes when I move the window to my other displays. Log attached.

Hi,

I use the latest version (madVR v0.61) and I have some errors "updating vertex buffer failed" during playback.

Here's the log file: madVR log (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8USXIBDR)

I didn't find anything useful in the previous posts, is there something to do on my side?

GPU: nvidia 8600M GT with driver 257.15
OS: Vista
Aero: on
1920x1080 24Hz (TV)
Dual monitor PC/TV

Thanks

I'm using reclock to auto change the refresh rate, not MPC-HC. But the problem exists even if I use MadVRs refresh rate changer. The only external filter I use in MPC-HC is LAV Audio so it shouldn't be that. Also I don't have any other codec packs installed, it's a relatively clean system. Maybe it's MPC-HCs internal decoder not grooving well with MadVR after a Refresh rate change?

Sounds like it could be a video driver issue, but you could try swapping in FFDshow video decoder to see what happens.

I wish I could say that. The most annoying thing that I experience with 0.61 is that when I use automatic exclusive D3D fullscreen sometimes video just stops while playing. You hear audio and the playback goes on but the picture freezes. No such thing in windowed mode. I suppose I should tell me specs after saying that.
C2D E8400, HD6970, MPC-HC 3114r (JanWillem32 version), any decoder (but I use PDVD10 2229 DXVA most frequently).

I use madVR and ffdshow and I use the Resize & aspect option from ffdshow using Spline for Luma and Chroma with MPC Video Frame set to Normal Size.

My question is that madVR in its scaling algorithms has its own Spline for luma & chroma. So what will give me better quality?

1. ffdshow Spline resize with MPC set to normal size OR
2. madVR Spline with MPC set to Stretch to Window?

PS: I don't use the aspect ratio correction and don't intend to either.

Are MADVR settings out of the box good for a 133" projector? Are there recommended modifications I should do to increase PQ? Also, can I toggle it on and off to see what the differences are between Madvr and non Madvr?

My question is that madVR in its scaling algorithms has its own Spline for luma & chroma. So what will give me better quality?

1. ffdshow Spline resize with MPC set to normal size OR
2. madVR Spline with MPC set to Stretch to Window?

PS: I don't use the aspect ratio correction and don't intend to either.

ffdshow put the load on CPU, madVR on GPU. Otherwise shouldn't be any difference. Others can explain more about this I guess.

Are MADVR settings out of the box good for a 133" projector? Are there recommended modifications I should do to increase PQ? Also, can I toggle it on and off to see what the differences are between Madvr and non Madvr?

As far as madVR concern, projector is no different from any other type of display. So go ahead and use default. You may want to play around with refresh rate changer.

The second one, just use something else and compare?

I love the picture quality that madvr gives and having the refresh rate changer is great. howver, I'm just about to give up on the whole htpc thing, I have massive overscan on my hdtv and can not fix it no matter what I do. I have a pioneer kuro (720p model - no 1:1 pixel mapping) and when I use the vdieo mode I get the overscan. don't want to use pc mode as I lose 24hz and 50hz refresh rates. I've virtualy tried everything from edid overrides, custom resolutions (nvidia gpu) resizing (stuffs up pq). no luck. will probably go for a media streamer or something. if any of you have a solution pls help. thanks.

bitola, I suppose you could try this:

I haven't personally tested as I'm waiting until someone mods drivers for my laptop.

I tried playing a DVD from Netflix using ffdshow and got a playback error: "Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed" when I used madVR as a renderer. I switched to VMR9 and EVR and they both worked fine. I've been able to playback ripped ifo and vob files using madVR in the past but it looks like this DVD-Video disc was having some issues.

AMD cards have scaling options. When set to 0% (like this (http://rghost.ru/7486851/image.png)) there shouldn't be any overscan and in HDTV's native resolution you should be able to get a pixel-precise picture. Try getting an AMD card )

Thanks for your reply Hypernova :)

BTW, what does madvr refresh changer do? Does it make the playback smoother by increasing the frames per second (FPS) by interpolating like SVP and InterFrame? If yes, then how to set it up for 60 FPS?

It does not interpolate.

If it wasn't clear to you, what is being changed is monitor's refresh rate, not video fps. So your monitor has to support the refresh rate that you specified.

hey everyone.

i'm using an 256mb 8600gt in one of my computers, and it appears to me that it is running out of video ram when using both madvr and lav cuvid.

My question is, is there a certain combination of settings in madvr that will perhaps help me?

You can try disable Aero with madVR, if it isn't already.

I feel the same pain, but basically I just gave up offloading video decode to the GPU.

And madVR settings: http://rghost.ru/7256041/image.png

Same thing (exactly) for me... Any idea?

i have had the same problem so thanks again for the solution

while we are on bugs:
loading certain mp4 files causes a green band at the bottom of the screen. only solution i have found is loading another mp4 first then the problem one stright after
any cure for this?

edit:
looks like the above fix works for the 'green' problem too

Hi,

well, i tried unckecking "present several frames in advance", but no effect. I have to say that i use ffdshow post processing and so i tried also uncheck queue option in ff and it's no perfect but better... (video stop very less frequently).

now i' ll try also use reclock...

i have stopped using reclock as it seems to cause more problems and with the display being 23.977 i dont seem to need it anymore

thanks a lot pacemaker1000,

but i have a projector with 50.000 and 60.000.

however i realized can't use reclock cause spdif out...

i have just set 50.000 for video at 25.000 and 60.000 for video at 23.976, but problem remains...

you need reclock then but should definately not be using 60 for 23.976 video as it is too far out. use 50 instead and set reclock to 5% speed up/slow down on its second page. when running leave it in auto mode

what do you mean?
it works fine using ac3 encode and saves having to use ac3filter for aac audio

Will add to pacemaker1000 - i'm using ReClock with ac3 Encode enabled and output to spdif - works fine to me.
On the Audio Settings page I tick Use AC3 Encoding and Accept Bitstream Formats, on the Video Settings page I set Maximum Slowdown and Maximum Speedup to 5% both.
With these settings I get smooth picture and only very rare sound "clicks" which sometimes are barely audible (in active scenes).

Just want to mention that I have some 50 fps content which I can borderline play with madvr, and build 61 without vsync priority fix drops frames, but the one with vsync fix doesn't.
