Yes, full HDR passthrough in win10. The TV detects HDR. Works perfect on nvidia and I think amd is fixed too now. I prefer the output of madvr over my expensive bluray player.
Ok, gotta test this, do I need to enable/disable Windows HDR since it seems to be bugging on HDR games, where the games handle the HDR themselves

I’ve gotten HDR to work on VP9 YouTube steaming but it is really hit or miss. Downloading them first is a much better solution currently.

Keep Windows HDR toggle to off. Set madvr to passthrough HDR (enable send HDR metadata to display as well). Enable D3D11 in rendering->general settings.
When madvr detects HDR video it will automatically trigger your HDR capable display. On exit, back to SDR.
I have this working well on latest nvidia drivers + latest madvr. Both on FSE or windowed.

I have not been able to get youtube HDR to trigger my display into HDR (using jdownloader to download offline). The usual demos from uhd3d work fine. Maybe i need to use a different downloader?
Edit: Tried forcing the download to only VP9 HDR variants, but still no autoswitching to HDR. Using MPC-HC+madvr+lav nightly. All latest with nvidia.

i don't see a reason it should not work. are you sure you got the correct VP9 10 bit version?

I have no interest in streaming, I'm talking about playing Youtube HDR videos offline.
I'm using 4K Downloader to download the videos, and after checking the files, they are not HDR despite requesting the original 8K or 4K version.
I don't know if other tools are better at selecting the HDR version of the file, it doesn't seem possible with this software.
Please PM me if you can recommend a tool able to download the HDR version of a Youtube HDR video that can then be played with MPC-BE/MadVR/LAV.

Youtube has both SDR as well as HDR for all resolutions. So the resolution doesn't tell you anything. Like aufkrawall said you need to download the HDR streams specifically ("vp9.2", VP9 profile 2, VP9 10 bit).

Thanks both, 3Dyd was the easy way. Unlike 4K Downloader, I was able to select the VP9 HDR HFR version (Webm), which was played in HDR perfectly by MPC-BE/LAV/MadVR. Thanks again for all the help. :thanks:

I don't think I am getting hw decoding though. The video drops frames constantly. Is it not supported in gtx 1080? I am using the latest lav nightly and madvr. vp9 is enabled in the list of hw decoders. I have tried cuvid, dxva2 native and dxva2 copyback.

I'm using OLED TV 55C6 LG which is 4K but I change the resolution to 1080p23/24 Fps so I can enabling Real Cinema and have real 24 Fps.

this will not change audio video sync.
the reasons for a/v sync issues came from bad encodes input lag of your screen input lag of AVRs just to name some of them.

It can happen that they are not the same: picture on DVD is anamorphic.
Check the OSD of madvr for the actual size.

VP9 10-bit decoding is not supported on the 1080. Only on the 1050 (Ti) and the 1030.

Could it be because the outer 18 pixels of a 720x576 frame aren't supposed to be seen? That's why, when converted to square pixels, a 720x576 16:9 source ends up being 1050x576. What should happen is the outer 18 pixels get cropped before the conversion, so you'd actually be stretching 702x576 to 1024x576. Obviously no media player will do this, so instead you'll often end up with small black bars at the top and bottom and, often, black bars or dodgy analogue crap at the left and right edges that are part of the original image.
Examples are below, first what you should normally see in a 16:9 frame if the file is tagged with the correct ~1.458 pixel aspect ratio, and second what you'd see with MadVR's black bar detection enabled.
Sadly, many PAL DVDs don't adhere to the standards (particularly films which are just encoded as 720x576 16:9, i.e. pixel aspect ratio of ~1.422), so it's kind of a crapshoot when deciding how to mux the videos properly when ripping them.
P.S. The same thing applies to 4:3 PAL videos: only the centre 702 "lines" are meant to be part of the image stretched to 768, so for a 720x576 original image it should be 788x576 without any cropping.

In 24 Hz mode with real cinema enabled it has a very high amount of input lag. I have to set the audio delay in lav filters to around 90ms to get the audio in sync.

That is not the way to be using your OLED. If you have a good GFX card you should have the resolution set at 12bit 2160p 23 or 24 fps in windows (and madvr if your using the resolution swapping options). Have madVR set at 10bit or greater for the panel and let madVR do the upscaling for you from 1080p to 2160p. The panel will force the real cinema option on. On my E6 I have an audio delay of 100ms set on my AVR.

On my E6 I have an audio delay of 100ms set on my AVR.Shouldn't HDMI 1.3 display lag compensation (aka "Auto Lip Sync") take care of that? Or are modern TVs still too dumb to send the correct lag info to AVRs?
I've had that enabled since I got my AVR and it's working perfectly with my Panasonic GT60 (verified with a test clip with beeps synced to flashes).
Is there a masterlist somewhere online of what HW decoders GFX cards support?Try to google image search for: "<graphics card name>" "DXVA Checker" and you should see screenshots with the list of modes supported.

Afaik receivers should just "passthrough" everything to the TV except the audio but does this apply to HDR metadata? I'll test it when I get home unless anyone can enlighten me :D.

Unfortunately NVIDIA didn't change their classification for VP9 10-bit, probably because VDPAU (which this list is based on) doesn't even support it.

Edit: ARC equals S/PDIF, well that sucks, is the only option then buying a soundcard to the PC or buying a new receiver?

Or use MadVR's HDR to SDR conversion which is excellent and save on gear.
For me, upgrading the AVR made sense because my source is aa UB900 until we can rip our UHD Blurays.
But if you plan to use a HTPC as a source, there are few reasons to upgrade anything in between.
You have to realise that "HDR" only means applying the correct gamut/gamma. Ultimately, HDR displays convert to SDR. So asking MadVR to convert to SDR and send SDR to the display through the AVR is very similar. Sometimes, you can get more control with the calibration in the display, but MadVR does a great job especially if you're not a HDR calibration expert.

Which delay do you use for Bluray/3D in powerdvd ? it is default on 0.20ms . should I put it higher ?

the displayed image is 2880x2160 4/3.
the number 480 is the start where madVR starts drawing the image and the 3360 is the point where madVR stops drawing the image. so yes it is correct.
the problem is your screen is at 4/3 with a 16/9 resolution and you didn't tell madVR that this is the case. but madVR can be setup for this.
you go to devices set your device digital projector and try the screen config settings.

That setting in there is for anamorphic stretch, I dont want that as Im not using a lens in this situation. The only other settings on that page are for cropping, I dont want to crop the image.

That seems perfectly normal to me. At 4K, a 4:3 resolution would be 2880x2160, so you get 480 pixel letterboxing on each side to fill the 3840 width - perfect 4:3.
The numbers there define the display rectangle of the image (the start and end of the image), it starts at left 480, and ends at left 3360 - ie. its 2880 wide and centered, just like it should be for 4:3. Obviously for 16:9 it would fill the entire screen, so the start would be 0 and the end 3840 - but 4:3 doesn't fill the entire screen, so there is letterboxing, which those numbers express.
madVR is doing exactly what it should be doing.

Thanks nevcairiel for that explanation. Im pleased that madvr is doing the right thing, what isnt then is many of the 576 DVDs.
99% of my classic BDs that are 4x3 fit perfectly within the motorised preset side masking I have set for 4.3, 16.9 and scope 2.35.
The presets are setup correctly from the Spears & Munsil test disc.
However may of the 4x3 DVDs I have the left and right edges miss the preset 4.3 side masking, unlike their BD cousins.
I can fix this with the zoom control, but the smallest % any of us can use is 25% zoom.
Using 25% zoom in this scenario is way to big and overshoots the 4x3 masking ratio up to approx 1.66 ratio, whereby cropping the top and bottom of the image too much.
I really wish madshi would make some smaller zoom steps e.g. 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, this would fix these incorrect sizings from some DVDs on 4x3 material.
It would be a very simple fix, not important for most who use monitors or TVs, but those with projectors and masking it would be a very welcome bonus!
I did mention this many months ago, as I also use the zoom control for some of the odd scope ratios that arnt 2.35, like Ben Hur and many of the very early Fox scope titles that are wider than todays scope.
The 25% often zooms up too large, having smaller steps would be great for us guys with projectors and motorised masking...wink wink :)

Yes, that does not help with the LG OLEDs, to be honest the LG panels have serious issues with the way they handle ARC and stuff. I found the solution is to have everything go via the AVR first.
