One more question: Do you plan to release x64 builds?
:search:
In that case I'll most likely I get a GT 240 512MB 128-Bit DDR5, 550/3400MHz.
Is 512MB enough?
I'd say that 512MB should probably be enough. Texturing performance and shader power is much more important for madVR...
BTW, is there any reason why you seem to prefer NVidia? From what I can see, for HTPCs the Radeon cards seem to be more attractive right now. They have better performance-per-watt and (unlike the budget NVidia cards) they can do HD audio bitstreaming.
Any hint on these "potential future madVR algorithms"?
World peace. Feeding all hungry people. Healing all diseases. You know, that kind of stuff...

On win7 with GT240 1GB DDR5, MadVR doesn't works at all, so maybe radeon is a good choice.

As has been mentioned, this is a problem with current NVidia drivers, and the next madVR version will have a workaround for that.

Nice to hear that, looking forward to the new version.
Just curious, but why?
Because I have other applications that requires newer drivers. Maybe I can extract some parts from newer drivers and use them with older ones but this is not something I want to mess with. There is also pure subjective reasons, which I better won't speak of.
By the way, I remember in some older versions madVR rendered video at screen refresh rate but not video framerate. It still works like that?

Ah. I only had CoreAVC-CUDA that required newer drivers, so it was easy for me to revert. Well, I had 191.97, but I didn't really like the idea of using unsigned drivers.

I don't know but I would love options for it to work like this providing its done also for sound. Very handy when you can get a very close refresh rate but not exact (my panel can get to 23.972 for example without the need of powerstrip intervention).

Here are the news... I've decided to quit the development of cr3dlut.
I've started a new project based on some of my ideas and concepts already tried in cr3dlut. I've also written a new manual, with a new structure and a more user-friendly set of commands - thanks madshi for your big help on that.;)
All further developments in the 3DLUT files creation will be made within this new project. If you want to know more about it go here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154719).

Let me add that yesgrey's new project is named yCMS and is superior to the now outdated cr3dlut in every way. So this is all *good* news. Also for all people currently using cr3dlut: You can simply switch to yCMS. The 3dlut files created by yCMS are compatible with madVR, as long as you use 8bit Y'CbCr input and 16bit R'G'B' output.

madshi,
I just read the new yCMS thread and I saw that the auto-selection of 3dlut files is based only on the height of the video. I think it will be better if you add some logic based on the width too, because there are many encodes that are 1280 wide and with 21:9 aspect ratio which makes for something less than 576 rows.
Would you consider altering your code for auto-selecting HD 3dluts to something like (y > 576) or (x >= 1280)?
Edit:
I've just found somewhere in this thread that your algorithm is actually checking the width too (x > 1024), so I think now only the definition in the new thread (for yCMS) should be corrected.

That's a misunderstanding. madVR did never do what you describe here. That's one of the things Reclock was made for.

Just read the last 3 pages of this thread or so. I've already answered a similar question there...
I just read the new yCMS thread and I saw that the auto-selection of 3dlut files is based only on the height of the video.
That's a mistake in the yCMS description text. madVR considers video HD if "(height > 576) or (width > 1024)".

As I said earlier:
The 220 may be fast enough for current madVR processing. But there's one thing to keep in mind: madVR only has basic processing capabilities right now. There's a very high probability that future madVR versions will add new processing options which will require much more processing power. Because of that my recommendation for a new GPU is this:
Get the fastest GPU you can afford and which fits your thermal/space/noise requirements. The faster, the better. That is, if you want to prepare for potential future madVR algorithms.

Feature request
madshi, how would you feel about adding support for a manually enabled override using an additional 3dlut?
In other words, you would have a check-box in the GUI (which could be enabled/disabled on-the-fly) to load an optional fifth "override.3dlut" in place of the 3dlut which is automatically loaded. You could even expand that further and have separate "override - TV.3dlut" and "override - PC.3dlut" files which would get loaded depending on which setting was selected in the GUI.
Most people probably wouldn't use it, but if it is trivial to code, I would like to see it added.

maybe to switch gamut on the fly...one trick is to use one LUT for TV levels, one for PC levels...and switch while the player's running. I do it for EBU/SMPTE-C mapping, Kazuya gave me this tip :)

There is already some latitude for this. For example, I made a SD-PC for PAL and a SD-TV lut for NTSC DVDs (both with PC levels ; Even if I do not watch DVDs anymore... :D) and I am using the HD-TV lut to test the gamma correction on my PC monitor...

Make sure you haven't moved the MadVR folder from which you installed. If you did move it, unzip MadVR folder somewhere permanent, click uninstall, and the install again.
Also, make sure that CoreAVC is outputting YV12. In your picture, as you can see from the filters list, MadVR is not loading during playback.

To have different presets (hotkeyable please) for the 3dluts would be nice for people who needs to use different ones for different situations. For excample if you got two different displays - one Plasma/LCD for everyday use plus one projector, hooked at the same htpc. Another case would be me ;-) i use a ISCO anamorphot with a slider and need 2 sets of 3dluts, because the lense does eat some blue - at the moment i can use a script to copy 2 sets of 3dluts around one for with the lens and one for without.

Yes, the main reason I wanted support for an override LUT was so I could swap out for a non-auto-loaded LUT on the fly in cases where the auto-loaded LUT is not what I want to be using. I've sort of made do with having an alternative PC LUT set as "HD - TV" but it is a pain to swap out files, it gets confusing, and if it removes one or more auto-loaded LUTs which I still have occasional use for.

madshi, like when I reported madvr causes mpc-hc to crash when refresh rate changes during playback, well another thing to improve could be when the system is locked / unlocked with madvr is running. It needs to detect this and restart / recreate. I did ctrl+alt+del today when listening to a music blu-ray, to get the task manager, but when I got the "lock this computer" - "task manager" - etc options screen and went to task manager, mpc-hc showed a madVR error relating to d3d. I am sure these are all related and will be resolved when madVR can detect its lost d3d device or whatever the case may be and can get around it.

Actually madVR detects the lost d3d device and makes the media player pause playback. If you come back after ctrl+alt+del, you can simply press play to resume playback. On my PC madVR is the *only* renderer which handles this situation gracefully. All other renderers make MPC-HC crash or freeze when I press ctrl+alt+del.
The situation might be different in Vista and Windows 7 (still running XP here). With the updated Direct3D9 version in Vista/win7 there's a way to avoid lost d3d devices, which I've not yet made use of. But in XP, as far as I can say, madVR handles ctrl+alt+del much better than any other renderer.

Oh I see yea I was able to play after unpausing. Evr-cp for me just resumes playing for me. No crashes. Can madvr have an option or default to just resume playback.
I wonder what's the difference between losing the device when I ctrl alt del and when I change refresh rate. The refresh change makes madvr crash mpc.
Thanks madshi

But you're not using XP, or are you? Try ctrl+alt+del with EVR-CP on XP!
As I said, madVR is not yet using the Direct3D extension offered by Vista/win7, which allows handling such situations better.

However, using MadVR 0.12 & the 257.15 betas along with SVN builds of mpc-hc/ffdshow & W7x64, I'm currently having no trouble at all; playback & seeking are smooth as can be.

Sounds like your issue is different as people affected can't get playback at all. I use w7x64 and latest SVN builds and it dosent work. At least madshi knows the situation and the cause, it will be fixed in next madVR release.

Strangely, my GT220 never worked with madVR, then briefly worked with the latest 197 drivers, then randomly stopped working with those drivers on the same install, and now does not work with the 257 drivers...
When it did work, I was surprised at how well: 720p ---> 1080p w/ Spline @ 24hz using 3dluts, no problem. fft3dgpu is borderline unusable on this card even in SD, but madVR was fine for pretty much everything I threw at it outside 60p HD content. Great stuff Madshi; eagerly awaiting the next version.

Hi all,
just recently I've started to test MadVR and the picture quality looks very nice. But I am having a couple of issues I'm hoping someone can assist with?
With MadVR I am getting dropped frames during what I assume to be high bit-rate scenes (Avatar and Saving Private Ryan Blu-ray M2TS files). I am not getting drop outs with other renderers.
My setup is:
Win7 32bit, MPC-HC (1752), FFDShow (Tryouts 3336)
Radeon HD5670, Intel Core2 Duo 2.67ghz (E8200), 3GB RAM
It seems like my gfx or CPU may not be up to it but others seem to be OK.
Also, I am getting a horizontal tear about 1/5th up from bottom, I saw this mentioned elsewhere but have been unable to find it again.
Glad to hear any explanations or recommendations.

What settings are you using in MadVR? Also, what resolution are you playing at, and how much memory does your video card have? Is Aero enabled or disabled? Check the frame rate of the video. If it is VFR, how high does the frame rate go?
