Don't know for sure, but I'd put money on 446.14 from 2020-05-27. That was the last one before the HDR issues started. Most of them have been fixed since, though, but not this one, apparently.

I'm still using driver 432, on windows 10 1809.
This is a movies pc, so I don't see a reason to update unless madvr gets a new feature that requires it.

Oh man, I'd be so bored with (HT)PCs if I didn't have something to update or otherwise mess with at all times. Might as well get a Shield ;)
I fully realize I'm in the minority here, but to me that's part of the appeal.

I use it for more than just HTPC although that's the majority case. I keep everything up to date always unless a driver is very broken.

Haha! I think I do get more enjoyment from configuring and calibrating my HTPC than actually watching it. :o

I want mine to just work when I turn it on. Hence why my HTPC is still running Windows 8.1 with the last Nvidia drivers that support 3D and have proper HDR metadata passthrough. I got it working and there's no reason to rock the boat. I am eyeing a 3000 series Nvidia card though.
I haven't seen any madVR performance reports about the 3000 series though. I remember back when people would post render time comparisons between the cards.

I posted some quick stats about my 3090 a bit ago, it is disgustingly fast. With madVR the doubled up FP32 units seem to work as proper full fledged extra "cores".
It is a lot faster than my 2080 Ti, though I haven't done any direct comparisons to be able to provide numbers. Perhaps I should.

I'll worry about it when they actually launch the cards. :)

I set up an alert with Distill.io and it actually worked for Best Buy and a 3070, even if it was by email (with paid options you can get text or app notifications). BB has a pretty good bot/scalper deterrent I think, they have you wait several seconds before the button activates to add to cart and then you have to check-out quickly, so you have to be logged in already and have the payment info already saved, and if you're doing PayPal also be already logged into that.
Today I finally got an order in for the 5800x so I'm now free to upgrade the other components, hopefully it will get rid of my weird bugs with my current rig.
I really only needed the new cards for that sweet 48 Gbps HDMI and now running at 2160p/119Hz 12-bit 4:4:4 Full RGB, it seems the banding issue on PC mode has been solved as well on the C9, don't know if it's on the Nvidia side or the LG side.

I highly doubt the last part! :)

15th December 2020, 23:08
Well yeah since the 3070 was the cheapest one could get for a while I also decided to try a bit of gaming again, though I'm pretty disappointed with the Vive Cosmos think I might return it.

@chros - Come on, man ;) I've been saying this for a while now, and Asmodian already confirmed it, too. The banding unique to PC mode has been fixed on both C9 and CX (with HDMI 2.1), but there is banding near black in both modes. The workaround for that is to set black level to low on the TV. I know you've read our exchanges! :P
Andy o
16th December 2020, 00:39
I have the black level in high though. Setting it to low obviously crushes blacks in my case, and setting the Nvidia control panel for Limited RGB would probably cause further problems since if I'm not mistaken it's compressing the output again after madVR outputs to full. If I only set madVR to output to Limited, and leave Nvidia in RGB Full, then videos would be fine but blacks would be crushed in everything else.
I'm not testing with test patterns though so I'm not saying there isn't banding. I'm comparing content in which previously there was a lot of banding in PC mode, and now I'm not seeing it. I switch out of PC mode and it looks the same to me. Learned a long time ago not to go looking for issues if they don't come looking for me first :)

No worries, Andy. This is just a fun little back and forth between chros and I :)
You are right about the use of BL low, although it wouldn't be all that detrimental to use either RGB limited or YCbCr 4:4:4 along with it. What's one more conversion/expansion/compression when there are (inevitably) so many already...
huhn
16th December 2020, 02:06
ive follow some guide to set this up using MPC-HC with MadVR
that's could be a land mine...
but here is the thing the video quality using my LG CX built in media player is far far better in terms in video quality and espcially with the judder/sutter? especially when i set the trumotion on the LG CX, i think im just not doing the right settings
did framerate match?
what do youi understand as far far better?
do you think using madVR and setting it up right would be better then the LG CX internal upscaler?
i'm relative positive VLC can beat that scaler. so yes.

By the way, when you said "with HDMI 2.1", does it mean that it's only with these new cards that it's fixed?
VBB
16th December 2020, 02:55
Yes, with anything 2.0 and older you'll get the good old banding we're all used to in PC mode.

I think the CX fixed PC mode in general, not just with HDMI 2.1. It is a lot better than it was on my C9, especially significant with HDR, but it is still better with SDR.
HDMI 2.1 allows YCbCr 444 at 10 bit and high refresh rates but I would still send a CX 8 bit YCbCr 444 limited at 60 Hz with HDMI 2.0b. I would have madVR dither to 8 bit even when sending 10 bit YCbCr 444 to the display, it really helps with banding. These OLEDs still need all the help they can get with banding if you get picky about test patterns.
Please do run your own tests for banding, I would love more data points for the CX testing RGB full v.s. YCbCr 444 limited in PC mode. I am fairly confident in my own testing but that doesn't mean I am actually correct.
SDR gradient tests (use with madVR).

I'm using an Acer X34 (3440x1440, ultrawide) monitor that I'd like to use play UHD HDR movies on. It doesn't support HDR but if I understand correctly, I can use madVR for tone-mapping.
Is it worth purchasing Calman for calibration?
I have a i1 Display Pro meter that I haven't used in many years but I also just purchased an LG CX OLED. I was thinking about buying the latest Calman (home version with LG autocal) to calibrate the LG CX, Acer X34, and my LG 27" HDR PC monitors.

I have ordered a RTX 3060 Ti. It is going to replace my RX 480.
Currently I run a GTX 1080 in my HTPC which runs pretty good with madvr. The RTX has 2x HDMI 2.1 and VP9/VP11/AV1 decoders which seems to be a better choice in my HTPC, don't you think?
VBB

@sofakng - Check out the calibration section over at AVS https://www.avsforum.com/forums/display-calibration.139/
There is a thread for CalMAN for LG and also threads for each year's OLED model. I would get myself familiar with everything before purchasing the software.

Hi, total noob here trying madVR in Potplayer.
Once starting to play a video, a red border appears after a few seconds... what does that mean?
Edit: Mmmm... it seems it was an avisynth script leftover from SVP. Weird that it only shows that red border when using MadVR...

Even if the price and shop references don't make much sense for someone outside of the EU (or even Germany, where this site is the strongest), their filtering for features is awesome to find products that suit your needs.
For example, 3060 Tis with dual HDMI:
https://geizhals.eu/?cat=gra16_512&xf=5424_2%7E9816_16+-+RTX+3060+Ti
The only issue right now is that they sometimes don't list products that have no reseller at all, which currently happens with many graphics cards that are perpetually out of stock...

I have a problem and see if someone can find an explanation. I am with madVR (v114) and nvidia gtx1080 card and for a while (before it did not) when I try to watch a movie in 3D format, if the cursor is on the display screen, the 3D does not work and the screen blinks all the time while ... I have to move the cursor to one end of the screen and put it on top of the windows status bar so that the 3D works perfectly. I use the latest version of nvidia that allows 3D viewing, so I don't know where the problem may be (I display 2:35 on screen with JVC RS400 projector). Many thanks

Panasonic hz2000. Madvr on some hdr files disables intelligent frame creation an option in the TVs settings. Im sure its some simple setting in madvr but cant find it. Its probably highly unlikely anybody know the solution. But its worth a try. Going crazy

Are the refresh rates different between full screen and windowed? Is it possible that Pure Direct is enabled for 24Hz, and that's causing interpolation to be disabled?

No the refresh rate is locked at 24 hz always.
The tv shows exact display res and refresh
Pure direct is it at setting in madvr ?

19th December 2020, 01:41
no madVR can't do that but the GPU driver can.
i don'T have an nvidia card at hand and AFAIK it's not changeable on AMD.
VBB
19th December 2020, 01:47
Pure Direct is a setting in your Panasonic TV. What Huhn means is that the driver can tell the TV via HDMI which mode it should switch into. This is set to AUTO by default with Nvidia, and in my experience AUTO = Graphics, so it is possible that it puts your Panny in a mode where interpolation is not available. I doubt that's what's causing your issue, though, because you say it works in windowed mode.

my old panasonic changed between window and fullscreen mode.
i neither have a panasonic TV here nor a nvidia card.
you can disable this in the TV or the GPU driver i recommend to disable it in the TV it'S the HDMI content thingy.

Can’t seem to find any relevant settings. Just Messing around in madVr settings.
What it exactly happens with mpc hc when entering fullscreen mode. It’s like everything jumps and it enters a different state.
VBB
19th December 2020, 02:31
OK, here's another thought: Could it be that the TV switches into Filmmaker mode when in full screen? Have you checked the modes and noticed anything different between windowed and FS?
There is nothing to disable in the Nvidia drivers.
huhn
19th December 2020, 02:40
you can try to disable the HDMI content type in the nvidia control panel but you should do it in the TV it's very special panasonic feature...
VBB
19th December 2020, 02:45
You cannot disable it on the driver side, at least not with Nvidia. You can change the settings from AUTO -> Graphics -> Full Screen Video. My Denon changes its content settings depending on what Nvidia is set to: AUTO = Game, Graphics = Game, Full Screen Video -> Movie
huhn
19th December 2020, 02:59
that's disabling it.
you can not not send HDMI content type so you leave it at one settings even the TV can't disable it it can just ignore it.

It’s not filmmaker mode. As all modes support intelligent frame creation
There isn’t really much to change on tv regarding hdmi.
I still suspect something happens when mpc hc goes into ful
Screen mode. Unlike for instance potplayer which can go from windowed to fullscreen without Jumping and resetting to black. But I can’t make it use madvr
