Why do you need reclock? Just use smooth motion and the MPCBE audio renderer.

Unless you actually have specific requirements for it, likely you honestly wouldn't notice if it was uninstalled (especially with Smooth Motion set up)
BTW 1.8.8.5 only adds support for PowerDVD 15 /Offtopic
Using Smooth Motion or having a display that uses frame interpolation is the way to go for proper smooth playback until we get higher native frame rate content, 24 FPS has been around far too long.

Just ignore due to the fact you are using 32 bit Windows. madVR64.ax is 64 bit which will not operate with a 32 bit OS.

Sorry, but SmothMotion is not a replacement for ReClock.... It's good if you can only do a 60Hz refresh, but if you can do 24, 48, 72, 96 Hz etc. etc. ReClock is much better. But this ReClock discussion is indeed off-topic.

Well, I run my screen at 23,97626 Hz and without ReClock I get some very annoying stutter when playing 23,976fps material, approximately each 10-20 seconds. These are not frame drops/repeats, presentation glitches or anything else that can be seen in the madvr statistics overlay.
I have never gotten smooth motion to work properly, isn't that useful when running the screen at 50 or 60 Hz? I am on a 4k display btw.
What is special about the MPC-BE audio renderer and would not the normal MPC-HC work?

How is it much better? You slow down or speed up the video, that right there is already a flaw.
Sharpness loss is subjective, you can't use that as a reason. Personally I don't notice it.
Setting a refresh rate on your monitor or GPU doesn't mean you're getting that refresh rate. 24hz isn't 24hz, no crystal ossilator is that precise. Which reveals another flaw. You can't theoretically get 100% smooth playback relying on the analog domain.

What is your setup and what versions are you running? Smooth motion should be plug and play. Just set your display to 60hz and set it to always on, the osd should tell you if it is working.
I mentioned the MPCBE audio renderer because it has all of the resampling and playback capabilities of reclock and does it all automatically. The mpchc audio renderer doesn't work properly for me, but it might work for you.

at 60 HZ the effect should be minimal to the eyes. but if you use any kind of frame interpolation in your TV madVR SM is not a good idea. but i wouldn't be shocked if some TV exposes some easily spot able issue with SM.
on an LCD without frame interpolation there should be any problems they have a motion clearness of only 300p anyway you can't get less sharpness then this.

it's rare that a screen has flawed 23p/24p but it happens. so this screen maybe has a problem with that mode. some people even say that about some OLED screens

massive 'green' artifact here on 64bit

though I don't see much use for the version yet since I always use SVP on top which is still 32bit.
GPU is an R9 290 latest stable drivers.
Confirmed this green artifact with NNEDI 3 chroma upscaling and double/quadrouble Chroma resolution; darker screen (look like scanlines) with double/quadruple Luma resolution even with the newest 15.4 beta driver. These issues only occurred with MadVR 64 bit, my VGA card is R9 290X and in Windows 8.1 environment.

Hi Guys,
my intent is to identify the best graphic card to use with MadVR and outputting a 2160p signal to a UHD TV.
I don't know if there is a specific thread about this....
My fisrt question is:
1)If we set the pc to output a RGB 4:4:4 2160p@24hz signal (in the control panel of the grapich card drivers) there is differences in the quality of the signal if we use an AMD card (with HDMI 1.4 I suppose) and a NVIDIA GTX970 (with HDMI 2.0 I suppose)?
In other words may be that the AMD cards do some kind of downsampling?
2)I know that madVR can support displays with panels higher of 10bit. Is It possible to know if a TV is capable to accept and represent a 12bit signal from a HTPC?
There is a method to know If a UHD TV is capable to accept signals @8/10/12bit? MadVR is capable to report this info?

first of all madVR always does 4:2:0 -> 4:4:4 first that would be the first chroma resize step and that is was chroma upscaling does and nothing more.
when image doubling is used without chroma the chroma doesn't match the luma anymore and the image upscaler or down scaler is used to fix this.

if your TV support 4:4:4 in the first place you can get 4:4:4 with an AMD 1.4 HDMI card up to 30 HZ.

madVR output is 8 bit. it can handle input with higher bit deep.
for 10 bit a fullscreen directx 10 or newer surface is needed. the high quality dither makes up for this for now.
the current version can't do that.
and it's not known what current driver do with a 10 bit input signal but it's know that they can output 1080p in up to 12 bit.

The chroma resizer is only ever used for the 420->444 step, since its probably somewhat specialized for a clean 2x upscale. All other scaling is done with the image resizer.

nnedi3 can't be used this way and the image scaler would scale the chroma in this case anyway on top of it usually the better scaler used for luma.

IIRC, madVR used to do that in the beginning, but quality and performance reportedly improved when it moved to the current model.
Unless you have an actual problem, just accept how it works internally? madshi probably put some thought into how it would work best.

The audio renderer provides the reference clock, so it is indeed quite off-topic.
But in the case of Reclock, it's basically a hack. Reclock has to guess what the refresh rate is and resample the audio based on that. If it guesses wrong (for example it's using the wrong screen), the clock won't be synced to the video, and therefore frame drops/repeats will occur.
It would be cleaner from a DirectShow architecture perspective to have madVR provide the DirectShow clock for Reclock, because as a video renderer, it's madVR's job to know the screen's refresh rate. Therefore, if you want to slave the audio clock to the video clock, then it's better to have the video renderer provide the clock, and then slave the (resampling) audio renderer to that clock.
That said, I'm mostly nitpicking here.
MPCBE doesn't need to resample audio to match the video clock.

Of course, that's what I meant. As I said, it's impossible to get an exact multiple anyway, because that would mean using the same clock, which is not possible on a PC. I guess I failed to mention the case where you can get so close that it doesn't really matter, but you need to do a lot of tinkering and trial&error to get to that point.

Where does madVR save freeze reports? I can't find them, trying to make one because it freezed again. Found them on my desktop... Silly me =)

64 bit has better decoding performance. so it can matter a lot for software decoding.
in term of madVR performance there shouldn't be any real differences.
and about your issue we need way more information that just "if i got in FSE mode i get dropped frames"
resolution? what settings what are the renderer times, FPS, and way more questions.
Obviously 64bit has better decoding, but using ReClock is quite important for those who want perfect sound+video sync.., which is only possible with ReClock, which is and always will be x86 (32bit)...
I use the latest MPC-HC 1.7.8 x86, ReClock 1.8.8.4 x86, madVR 0.87.21 (reset older version to default and properly uninstalled, then installed new version and reset to defaults) and the latest LAV Filters 0.64. My LAV Video filter uses nVidia CUVID (for all 9 boxes underneath), Enabled Adaptive H/W Interlacing for 25/30p Films with High Quality Processing. The rest is default.
I use high quality settings:
- Rec.709 3DLUT (ArgyllCMS 1.7.0 non-buggy Beta dev. release + dispcalGUI 2.9.0.7 Beta)
- Reduce Banding Artifacts = enabled for lower quality videos
- Chroma Upscaling = NNEDI3 64 neurons
- Image Doubling and Quadrupling (both Luma and Chroma) = "Always, If Upscaling Needed" = 32 neurons for each of 4 boxes
- Image Upscaling = Jinc 3 tap + "Activate Anti-Ringing Filter"
- Image Downsaling = Catmull-Rom with "Activate Anti-Ringing Filter" & "Scaling in Linear Light"
- Smooth Motion = Off
- Dithering = Error Diffusion - Option 1, Use Colored Noise = NOT selected/ticked, Change Dither for Every Frame = NOT selected/ticked
- Trade Quality for Performance = all boxes are UN-ticked
- The rest = default (aside from FSE)
Framerate drops occur in H.264 .MKV films recorded @ 1080p with high quality. My rig specs are in my sig (3770K @ 4.8Ghz, GTX 980 4GB, 1080p monitor, SSD, Windows 8.1).
Of course I would get rid of framerate drop by reducing NNEDI3 from 64 neurons to 32 neurons, but that is not a solution because when FSE is not enabled, no frames are dropped with NNEDI3 set to 64 neurons.
Its no big deal, but I am just curious. I figured FSE would actually be better as far frame dropping goes...

rendertimes? FSE shouldn't add noticeable rendertimes.
and there are some questionable settings but this is not a madVR setup guide.

Well you don't need to convert 25fps to 24 if using SM. I do see some valid uses for reclock, but they are very niche. You need a display that supports custom refresh rates, SM somehow doesn't work for you, and your tv has interpolation that cannot be turned off. Reclock also creates static when I use it with my external dac.
The TV in my family room supports 24hz, but I prefer to keep it at 60hz and use SM. Why? Because it's annoying to configure filter settings and seek in the video if your screen is at 24hz. The mouse lag is ridiculous.

Reclock uses the crystal on your motherboard, and your monitor uses the crystal in it's pcb. Anyone who thinks these crystals are 100% stable, precise, and fully match all the other clocks needs to read some more.

SM blends frames, why would you want to blend frames when reclock achieves "perfect sync" without doing that?
SM's main purpose is to eliminate judder on refresh rate mismatch, and does a great job at that.

It was said the ONLY way to get perfect playback is reclock. SM achieves the same goal of reclock. One blends, one speeds up and slows down the video. Neither is perfect playback. As I mentioned, it's not possible to get 100% perfect sync, just subjectively close.

you are misunderstanding reclock resampling. Dude you posted this earlier today and I replied...
No resampling of audio by a few hz is needed when using SM. The sound is untouched, because the speed of the video playback is untouched. You can use any sample rate 48khz, 96khz, etc, no post processing is needed, the audio syncs with the video.
Adjusting the sample rate is not a feature of reclock, it is a basic requirement to make the program usable. If you speed up the video and leave the audio untouched, there will be sync issues. Reclock resamples the audio to sync it with the video, then adjusts the pitch.
You don't need to slow down a 25fps source to 24fps when using SM... you needed to do this if your monitor did not support a multiple of 25hz but supported a multiple of 24hz. You don't need to worry about that when using SM.
Reclock was used in the past for its main features, but also as a good audio renderer. If you had a track that had 192khz 24bit audio, but your sound card only supported 96khz 16bit, you could not use wasapi and had to go through the garbage bin known as the windows mixer. Now the audio renderers in popular players like mpcbe can downsample if required when used with kernel streaming.
Back to my original point: Madvr can accomplish smooth playback like reclock, and the mpcbe audio renderer can accomplish all of the playback features that reclock had when simply used as an audio renderer.

Read the first sentence in that link. "Issue caused by conversion". SM doesn't convert anything, alter speed of video and audio, or alter pitch. It removes judder caused by mismatch frame rate. SM doesn't care if you are watching 24 or 25fps on a 60hz screen, there are no issues with pitch.
Also to your previous post about plasmas: Plasmas flicker at such a lower refresh rate (24hz). I'd rather have the "supposed" ghosting you said some have mentioned rather than screen flicker.

Is "use colored noise" (under dithering) popular around here? I noticed it adds a slight speckling of colour to the overall image. It's not good or bad, almost imperceptible like film grain.

It may affect some setups more than others, it's the default so yeah it's quite popular. TBH It's nearly impossible to see a difference on my plasma even when I'm 1 foot away from it, never mind 3 meters..
Set it to whatever you prefer as with just about everything.

Back when we were testing the various dithering algorithms, it did seem like more people preferred color vs luma-only dithering noise. Though there was a group of us, including myself, who really disliked the idea of intentionally adding color noise to otherwise pristine chroma, and would rather have the light texture added by luma-only dithering. It's all a trade-off. The type of person who likes grainy movies and hates the appearance of grain-free denoised movies, would likely prefer luma-only dithering. The type of person who likes when their movies have (and keep) a smooth denoised appearance, would likely prefer color dithering.
Personally I like:
HD: Error Diffusion, Option 1, Luma, Static
SD: Error Diffusion, Option 2, Luma, Dynamic
Performance: Ordered Dithering, Luma, Dynamic
Other: Random Dithering, Color, Dynamic
The most popular option favored by others for color dithering I believe was:
Error Diffusion, Option 2, Color, Dynamic

Maybe you have everything you need but I would still need a Zoom Player 64 build, a Reclock 64 build and an Avisynth 64 build. But yes, getting closer but I doubt I will ever see all this...

zoomplayer , ive never used it since ive always thought potplayer is the to go player out there , correct me if im wrong , and yet again this is a thing about dev contact , so do it instead of giving up so easily , if i wouldve just given up years ago about madvr integration into dsplayer build of kodi we wouldve never seen it happen , and alot of other things , protip you have to speak up or forget about it

Thanks madshi for the 64 bit build. It works perfectly with the test build of MPC-HC 64 provided by kasper93.
If we had a 64 bit version of ReClock too, we would completely get rid of 32 bit players.
IMHO reclock is essential with the people with "24" multiple refresh rates (24hz,48hz,72hz etc.) So a x64 build of reclock will be very well welcomed. :)

SD: ED1
ED1 is just sharp so I use it for low res video. ED2 looks most transparent and neutral to me. Didn't play with the options yet.
