View Full Version : madVR - high quality video renderer (GPU assisted)
There will never be a final permanent build. In fact it could all end one day with no more madVR builds at all, so best to install mpv, set it up and have it ready just in case. I'd recommend this build.
https://github.com/mitzsch/mpv-winbuild/releases
well good luck with that:
config: profile=high-quality
vo=gpu-next
nothing else

i'm cursed or something there is no way this isn't an release with a bug i just touched at a bad time.

Best libmpv player I've found to date is: https://github.com/mpc-qt/mpc-qt
I don't use it because I don't need to, but I do have it installed on my Linux setup to follow it (it also has a Windows binary as well). Anyway, it has a familiar interface and the bazillion flippy switches that you all love. I would say use that if mpv is your backup as opposed to working with a textfile. The devs do see and respond to player bug reports if you encounter them.

madvr started causing freezes my whole computer freeze
On a Fresh new os I use LavFilters and Potplayer no Madvr
7800x3d
4090RTX
Titanium creative sound card official drivers
Potplayer ALL EXACTLY same settings without MadVR everything runs perfect
On my main OS
1080p WORKS FINE! that's what the weird thing
The last things that happened is Nvidia app released 1.0.4
But I uninstalled it totally
As soon I start to play 4K HDR MKV movie I will lose AUDIO and the soundcard would disappear causing a total freeze, now it can't be the card because it works fine with 1080p, how would video affect the sound? also it works FINE WITHOUT MadVR, I don't understand what is happening
if I just play 1080p and just a normal FLAC song it works fine, only 4K it causes issue. something changed with Nvidia app 1.0.4 that started causing it now with MADVR? something with madvr NGU
it's also clear what happened, all my MadVR settings also RESET because of this freeze that happened
0.207 doesn't work anymore? because it doesn't load
Why I can't use 207???? pfff I can't even test.

I don't think this is a common issue i've not seen this come up , Having error diffusion dithering turned on was Causing some people lots of problems with some players, have you tried turning this off, what else have you tried did you go back to Pretest build 9217 to see if that worked and have you reset back to default?
The only other thing I can think of is bandwidth playing a 1080p movie Uses a lot less bandwidth over hdmi, is there something in your chain that doesn't support 4K or dodgy cable or something?
If you remove the audio card what happens with 4K playback?

Error diffusion is problematic for amd graphics card, not sure if it is for nvidia as well.

Hey all - having kind of an odd situation on a new htpc build. Windows 11, RTX 4060 GPU - MPC-HC latest from github.
***EDIT: All content seems to randomly drop to 23.000 composition rate after a time.... :(
If I play a 1080p video (also 23.976) - after a few seconds the composition rate changes to 23.000 and I start dropping frames like mad.
Even if I play 2160p SDR content, it switches randomly down to 23.000 composition rate...
This problem is full screen only... in windowed mode, it stays 23.976... I tried enabling windowed overlay - but that made no difference....
If I switch back to windowed mode, it goes back to 23.976, and if I go back to full screen its back to 23.976 for a short time before reverting back to 23.000
This one has me scratching my head!!!

Known issue with MadVR and Windows 11 2024H2. Only way I could fix it was to disable Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows settings (System > Display > Graphics > Advanced graphics settings).

Luckily for me this is a dedicated HTPC, and I don't care which OS is on it... heck I would put Windows 7 on it if it would fix the problem lol
Try what dbcooper did and see if it works for you? Would be good to know a fix in case I need Win11 on a build in the future!

I don't actually use madVR anymore, just lurking here as there's too much interesting discussion not exclusively related to it going on. I wish it was this active and varied in the MPC(-BE) thread.

I have an LG G4 OLED and I noticed lately, that I have to set the "native display bitdepth" to 6 in madVR to eliminate the banding issues. At least the most of it. Why is that? Is this supposed to be the correct setting? In theory the panel should be 8 or 10 bit (8+FRC) natively, but why do I get banding issues if I set the native bitdepth anything above 6?
TV settings: HDMI levels: auto; Filmmaker mode; sharpness 0; every enhancements and AI things are OFF
NVIDIA settings: PC 3840x2160 @120Hz; 32-bit, 10 bpc, RGB, Full
madVR settings: PC levels (0-255); 6 bit
If I increase the bitdepth in madVR I'm starting to get banding issues. I use grayscale test patterns to check it (avs hd 709 & mehanik hdr10 patterns). The banding is present on SDR and HDR too.
Edit: I tested it further, and it seems like the banding is only minor on 5 bits and 6 bits, but it's spectacular on anything else (4, 7, 8, 9, 10, auto bits).

I have an LG G4 OLED
My last LG OLED was the C1, but they have always had minor banding with grayscale test patterns.
Using the CMS made it much worse, but I could never get rid of it entirely. MadVR set to 6-bit output with dithering is a good workaround.

A Samsung S95B, but I am not saying it is perfect or that I didn't buy more LGs because of the banding. My point was only that the banding might not be due to something wrong with the video chain before it gets to the TV.

This seems to be causing alot of problems I was only getting 8 bit hdr Nv had to keep switching to 10 bit hdr os,switching off (Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling) 10 bit Nv stays on also no drops or glitches using 4070 S.

I have "report bt 2020 to display" enabled and when I start Potplayer I can see the colors change to significantly ritcher also on my desktop wallpaper, well actually everywhere both in Potplayer and windows 11 in generally. I've tried to take screenshot of "report bt 2020 to display" both enabled and disabled, but screenshots look the same as bt2020 option disabled. So the more colorful picture happens on my projector (Formovie X5).
My question is how can I have this "report bt 2020 to display" better colors type thing happen in windows 11 generally without starting Potplayer with MadVR.

These "better colors" are wrong. Windows desktop is in sRGB, so if you view it on a BT.2020 display without correction you will get incorrect colors. Usually this is most notable with skin colors.
If you want to use them all the time you should set the color space in your projector to 'wide' or something like that, instead of auto.

Has anyone seen the bug, where after reboot, it WILL go into exclusive full screen mode.
But after the PC has been left on for a while, it stops doing it, and would only go into d3d11 fullscreen windowed?
I've tried mpcbe and hc, same. Seems to be a madvr issue.

Without exclusive mode, 10bit output DOES NOT WORK. It can only do 8bit. You can see it clearly in test patterns on a proper 10bit TV.
Using test patterns,
Disable dithering in non-exclusive mode, the 10bit shows banding.
Disable dithering in exclusive mode, the 10bit is still smooth.

I recall there was an issue on an older driver. But it fixed itself after installing a few steam games. Maybe some dx or vc library conflict?

If that driver does not work, then you have to figure out what has recently changed on your system. Maybe it was caused by last Windows update.

Not sure as the Google streamer is coming in via an AVermedia live gamer 2.1. GC575. The card in the streamer software has the ability to turn on denoise. I've left that off as I'm not sure if it would stay on when using pot player or would cause negative effects.

If you right click on the youtube video in the web browser and select stats for nerds, you can see the codec it is using.
Then with your player you can look at the filter list and see if it is using h264, vp9 or av1.

Hi, i have an old graphics card GTX960 that doesn't do 12 bit at 60hz, at the moment i am having to change from desktop settings of 8 bit @ 60hz to 12 bit @ 30hz before playing a movie so that madVR can output 12 bit as if i leave the graphics card set at 8 bit then madVR can only output the movie at 8 bit, is there a way around this so i can have the bit depth switch automatically the same as the refresh rate?
