0.15, what's the point? lol. Good luck.

coz 0.2 doesn't look natural and 0.1 is too soft, 0.15 might do the magic :)

Hey, I was just wondering what the "best" (as in using all of madvr's features and with minimal load) way to use lav video's new d3d11 decoding was: is it leave it on auto and native (will lav then dither and colour convert?..) or choose a gpu for copyback? I'm assuming "use d3d11 for presentation" is mandatory in madvr either way.

You know what what I mean, this is a standard term.
Best of both worlds? The response time and per pixel control? Nah.

Micro-LED does have per pixel control. Hence the "micro" in the name, the LEDs are "micro" sized so that you have individual LEDs for each subpixel. It's a regular "inorganic" version of OLED.

that'S nice or something but that doesn't change that it doesn't exist in consumer TVs anytime soon.

and without a released normal priced product i won't judge the performance of it.

Define "LED technology". OLED is also using LED's, but they are organic, which gives them some disadvantages.
Micro-LED pretty much takes the best of both worlds and none of the bad things. As much as this is offtopic, I'm not inclined to believe that MicroLED will avoid image retention problems and burn in. They are emissive, they are bound to "consume" themselves sooner or later. Am I wrong in this? Plasma and CRT were inorganic but they suffered from IR and BI just the same.
Written by an 8 years Kuro user that hasn't had significant problems with IR or BI but still...

MicroLED technology is just another half-assed solution until true (i.e. electro-emissive) quantum dot displays would arrive. It looks a little better than other half-assed solutions like OLED or photo-emissive QD over regular LEDs, but it's still half-assed (they are already planning to combine microLEDs with photo-emissive QD layer once again). And it seems like in the end microLED won't fit for relatively big screens due to very high production costs. Currently it's nothing more than another rushed attempt to flog a half-dead VR horse and/or Apple's next advertising gimmick to show off as "innovative" again - so all this sudden hype around microLED.

Guys, please could you take the MicroLED discussion somewhere else? Not everyone is interested in this :)

Calm down it's barely a discussion, it happens. Would rather the odd bit off OT than copious quoting :P

Returning to MadVR after not having a gaming pc for 5 years. Quick question: now that MPC-HC is no longer being developed, what's the preferred media player for MadVR? Likewise for XySubFilter.
:thanks:

mpc-hc working fine and will get an update soon.

subtitle is complicated xy subfilter supports most of madVr advanced subtitle feature and all other common subtitle format but feel free to use the mpc-hc ISR.

Hi guys,

does someone know if i can tell madvr to use a certain 3Dlut when a file is played in 3D?

For example:
if (filePath = "\\homediskstation\video\HighDefinition3D\*") "3D"

Unfortunately this is not working for .iso cause they are played from a virtual disc drive :(

:thanks:

I suggest you (and everyone) to use MPC-BE instead, because it is well maintained and you can get support on here too : https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=165890

I would also recommend to use the internal subtitle renderer of MPC-BE, because XySubFilter is not developed anymore and has bugs with madVR.

So i have decided to buy 4k TV because because... Downscaling 4k HEVC is a pain for my i5..........It shouldnt be!!! Anywways i have gtx 750 ti so i willl probably need to upgrade my gpu. Any tips on what is the best gpu to upgrade too (NVIDIA or amd)?? Knowing i will need gpu power to upscale many 1080p videos to 4k when 4k not available.

this is now a difficult decision as neither Nvidia or AMD have stable enough card now using windows 10.

The main issue with NVIDIA for me was 3D, its just not reliable at all, sometimes it works, often it doesnt. I was also getting for more black screen and HDMI signal loss with my 1050. HDR is also a problem, its broken at the moment, a fix is coming but they will likelly break it again.

My AMD 550 is pretty stable now but it still freezes my PC now and again coming out of a video playback, although i've gone back to 17.10.2 and it hasnt crashed for over a week. HDR is spot on with my AMD card, no issues at all, perfect glitchless playback.

My current preference is AMD as I have perfect playback of everything with only the odd pc hang on newer drivers, I dont game so there is no rush for me to keep up to date.

mpc-hc zoom in/out with numpad key 9 and 1.

With Windows EVR (normal, custom presenter, EVR-CP)
From lowest to highest zoom level the machine eats 26 watt.

With madVR lowest zoom level eats 26 watt and highest zoom level eats 46 watt.

I've set every madVR option to its lowest rescource consumption setting.

In my opinion this is many many many too much unneeded burned coal. :(

Any workaround?

It's not because it's not stable for you that you should declare nVidia unstable full stop.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update + 1080Ti + 385.28 is rock stable here, including for 3D. I told you had to use a batch file to enable 3D every single time. That's about the only thing that's not working with nVidia. Otherwise HDR works 100% fine with 385.28, at least with the config in my sig. Madshi has indicated that an upcoming driver will resolve the issues with HDR with the most recent drivers, but there is NO ISSUE with 385.28.

HDR, 3D and everything else are rock stable using NVidia here as well exactly as Manni has stated. Has been for a very long time. I use the oldest working GPU that covers the entire gamut. He uses the latest. I use an automated script attached to the Kodi front end. He uses a script and MyMovies front end. I don't know if it's automated or attached because he utilizes it from his iPad afaik and not sure how he 'calls' it. The script is only for 3D global via NCP because there is a problem that it is disabled after certain playback of 2D so it must be enabled upon 3D start again. madVR 3D settings do not evoke this for some reason. I think W10 and/or GPU drivers are overriding madVR commands. While this all sounds complicated and buggy, it really isn't once a script to call nvstlink.exe intercepts prior to 3D playback. One method how I've been doing it for years now is described in the link in my sig.

I use iRule on the iPad to send a command to MCE Controller, which launches the batch file on the HTPC. So every time I press the "3D" button on the iPad, it runs the batch file before selecting the 3D calibration on my projector.

It would be great if MadVR could do this, but for some reason Madshi doesn't seem to be willing to go all the way for 3D support with nVidia. He has provided registry settings that help momentarily but don't stick. The only way is the batch file, so if we could get MadVR to launch a batch file on 3D playback that would be very useful as it could be automated and wouldn't have to be manual. On the other hand it might be too late to start the file by the time playback starts, so we'd need some delay as well.

The batch file is automated if your front end lets you attach one such as Kodi via playercorefactory.xml like I've done. No extra mappings or manual button pushes nor timing issues. Presently, just press play on any title and let the HTPC sort everything out behind the scenes with zero intervention and works correctly. 2D, 3D, HDR, etc. Not even a CMD to spoil anything. Also GUI is always in 2160p at the correct refresh rates and bit depths at the correct times scaled perfectly for UHD owners. 1080p owners no problems either. I agree though, the ability to call a script from madVR might open up some doors for other front ends that do not have the capability built in.

just noticed there is a huge colour difference between madvr and stock MPC, MADVR is very red, normally they are the same, did something change in latest version?. I've corrected it now by setting mine to calibrated / DCI-P3 / pure power curve 2.20 - never had to do this before.

Anyone else?

Also, what should the setting be for a non calibrated LG 2015 4k OLED?

On the other hand it might be too late to start the file by the time playback starts, so we'd need some delay as well.

can you post your batch file please.

thanks

So I was having the IRQ issue with MadVR in Windows 10 with Zoom Player using it in FSE, disabling forced FSE solved the blackscreen/IRQ issue.

Now upon exiting after a long viewing session I get a BSOD that says "attempted execute of noexecute memory".

It happens immediately after clicking Exit.

This only happens with MadVR.

Edit - Seems I've been using MadVR 92.8.0 will see if it happens again next time I watch a movie.

Windows 10 doesn't like FSE so much. However, the windowed full screen mode has been enhanced, which can be considered substitution of FSE to some extend.

My i5-Haswell downscales 4k@24/30fps hevc hdr movies to 1080p fine using CPU decoding and iGPU dxva.

Hey,

I noticed something the moment I switched from Potplayer x86 to Potplayer x64. The frame drop literraly drops down (from several hours in x86 to few minutes in x64). I checked everything regarding Madvr then I asked myself if it wasn't related to audio - since Reclock doesn't exists in x64.
And the result was obvious. If I switch the Reclock option back to default (in Potplayer x86) I have the same drops down I have in x64 application.

What I understand is Potplayer is more demanding for outputing audio than Reclock and this loss of performance is impacting Madvr?
What alternative or settings should I change to properly use this x64 app?

I'm thinking, maybe I should directly ask to Potplayer cause I bet Madvr is not the faulty one in this case?

cheers

this is now a difficult decision as neither Nvidia or AMD have stable enough card now using windows 10.

So Rx 550 is powerfull enough to upscale 1080p -» 4K with NGU antialias high???

depending on the used scaler yes for sure make sure it is a 4Gb version.

edit: NGU high no way...

madVR is not the problem, but it's potentially your solution.

Make sure you're using the latest version of madVR, then read madshi's tutorial on creating custom resolutions for your TV/monitor. When you find the right custom resolution, your frame drops will go back to days or even longer and you'll have no need for ReClock because your audio and video will be in perfect sync.

But the IRQ error is caused by FSE mode in W10

This is the drivers fault. The software says FSE mode please, and the drivers do something that crashes the system.

FSE mode uses parts of the drivers/hardware other modes do not. Software has to access the hardware via the drivers, it has no control at the IRQ level. Software can sometimes work around driver issues to avoid them crashing but not cause a blue screen itself, at worse the software crashes.

Thx for the tuto, I didn't know about those custom settings... And thx to it I understand a bit more why I loose such of "frame drops every". It's all related.

First of, my TV accepts all framerate (from 23 to 60). I followed his tutorial but unfortunately I can't choose no "optimized pixel clock #" because the gpu don't accept it. :/ I have a GTX 970 by the way.

I'll watch a movie tonight and see if it crashes upon exiting since I'm using the latest MadVR now.

Are you having problems USING the optimized setting or SAVING it? If using, make sure your custom res is in madVR's list of resolutions to automatically change to (for example, "1080p25" or "720p25").

If you're having trouble saving it (common with Nvidia), try changing the display resolution in Windows to something other than the custom resolution. For example, if you're trying to save a 25Hz resolution, use Windows display adapter properties dialog to set your TV to 60Hz, then try to save the 25Hz again. Doesn't always work, but it does sometimes.

ive had similar issues, mine doesnt blue screen it just hangs, i get a black screen and the pc is dead, I have to power cycle it, nothing in events, no mini or memory dump, nada, at least if you are getting a BSOD you can check where its coming from.

I was also getting random black screens when coming out of movies for no reason, with identical settings I didnt get the same on my AMD card.

All the issues we are having awith win 10 t the moment seem to stem from the fall update, my system was stable before that.

Have you tried a full clean install of GFX drivers, LAV and MADVR?

Yep USING it. But now I think it's all good :) I don't know how or why but I could change and save the "optimized" setting for the 23fps. I succeeded to achieve more than several days reaching the "no frame drops/repeats expected" sometimes.

Thx again for pointing me this new tutorial and for your time.

is there a way to quickly "convert" a few clips (which still amount to a few thousand frames) through madvr processing without manually screenshooting every single frame?

I know its not the intention of madvr, but I need to convert them as the hardware i plan on showing the clips on unfortunately do/can not run windows or madvr. The enhancements i set within madvr (upscaling, debanding, post processing and so on) do make a huge difference when I tested a short ~5sec sample using the painful screenshot method. obviously, frame deliver is not optimal, but overall quality at near lossless reencoding does work wonders. anyone got a nice script or some tool capable of going through all the frames and exporting them as PNGs or something for further conversion in the appropriate format?

Hello there,

I would need some help, if possible. I am totally got stuck with 3D playback (2D HD and SD is working as expected).

I have the following system without 3D working both using JRiver and Kodi for testing.

The system:
i5 7600K CPU,
16GB RAM,
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti,
LG C6V HDR 3D TV.
Nvidia driver installed: 388.71.
Windows 10, 64-bit.

Problem: Both of my players are crashing when selecting "use Direct3D 11 for presentation..." under general settings of madVR. Black screen effect after selecting "enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode".
madVR version: 0.92.4.

I have a 3D capable system but 3D has never been working here using madVR and LAV filters. When I try to play back a "frame-packed" mkv container in Jriver/Kodi DSplayer, after being sure I am fulfilling all the requirements for 3D playback, madVR handles the decoded source as 2D (even no indiation of 3D among the "ctrl+J infos" while playing back), so I am pretty sure of that that something is wrong at the decoding stage already (LAV filters).

Please help. Maybe the expert guys here has already encountered with such problems regarding 3D.

Thank you in advance for any help.

yes and the trick is it to not show duplicated frames and duplicated frames are pretty easy to fix but don't worry there are even more problems...

what now? does the player crash or do you get blackscreen or both?
be awaree that windows 10 pretty much hates FSE and it has changed alot in term of FSE and depending on the windows 10 version you are using you may have more or less problems.

don't except microsoft nvidia or AMD to test 3D properly test it. it is not used much... and they have way bigger problems.

what so ever 3D work fine for me.
i just need to run the nvidia 3d wizard and that it.

when installing lavfilter you need to install the extra intel 3D decoder that is not installed by default.
