Interesting, this is how MPC-BE saved it...
I replaced it with the right one now (1920x1080), thank you.

That's strange. I have 23.976 working on a GTX 660 with "no frame drops/repeats"- Although, to be fair, I inputted the values madVR calculated into CRU.
Edit: and now, for the first time in ages... I have both working 1080p23 and 1080p24 (23.976 and 24.000) refresh rates. I simply went back to CRU and added 24.000 as an extra resolution. madVR is switching correctly to it when playing back 24.000 material and it switches to 23.976 when playing back corresponding material.
I don't know what changed but I think it's either the first time it happened to me or it's happened so long ago that I don't remember when.
23.976 with no drops/repeats, 24.000 with 1 frame drop every 1 day. 50.000 with no drops/repeats, 59.94 with no drop/repeats. I'm in heaven.
Win 10 x64 (Spring Creators Update, I'm skipping Fall for however long I'll manage to), GTX 660 with 385.69 drivers.
Not in heaven, no chance to use 2160p59 as custom resolution, 1080p59 is working for me too, but I need 2160p59. Nvidia fucked up HDR, in the newer driver versions, and doesn't use the correct color I adjusted after refresh rate change.
Too much broken in Nvidia driver to be in heaven.

i have some iussue...
my htpc start and its already in HDR mode (my tv is a LG 65B6V) and it ok.
So i start to play the movie and it stay in hdr mode (i see the "hdr on" message), but when i double click on mpc-hc and it go to full screen not always stay in HDR mode, i mean the hdr mode go away....and i have to switch to full screen/windows mode several times, double cliccking, before i see "hdr on" in full screen mode....wondering why!

My advice is don't set up your htpc to boot directly into HDR mode, let madVR handle turning it on and off.
thx i'll check the driver and i'll set up my htpc to boot in non HDR mode! i'll try later and i'll let you know, thanks a lot! :thanks::thanks:
now the htpc start not in HDR, i set windows 10 resolution to 4k, but nonthing changed.... :(
I noticed that forced subtitles are no longer working. Although ".srt" format in an external file does not work anymore.... i'll try XySubFilter! :)

What are your HDR settings in madVR (under the device tab)? I have it set to passthough and send HDR metadata to display checked. Also I suggest making sure win10 setting for HDR for the normal desktop is off if you have not done that already.
If all else fails I would say to stop using windows 10.

When do I need to use P010 10 bit in Lav Filters ?
are there specific movies ? do I need to unselect all the 8 bit output format in Lav Video Filter ?
are HDR movies 10 bit P010 ? how do I enable them ?
Does D3D11 Autmatic Native support P010 ? Lavfilter 0.70.2.80 ?
Why the movies that I download MKV ones which are 4k 2160P UHD HEVC always says HDR, unknown properties ? but
like same here he has P010 and HDR 10000 nits.
I don't have those for all the HDR movies I have.

EDIT: After testing , as soon as I disabled all the 8 bit colour output then I have the right details and nits and everything. how can I make this process automatically instead disabling and enabling for every SDR , HDR movies ?

Ok so I did some tests with a true UHD source (Passengers).
The sharpness of the old NGU sharp matches with the UHD image very well.. and the new is sharper but then this is NGU sharp..
Chuck in NGU standard for comparison. What quality? no AR/AB right?
Neo-XP
9th November 2017, 00:10
Here you are with NGU Standard and Lanczos4 AR for the sake of comparison :
https://thumb.ibb.co/dFK4Cb/Passengers_Ngu_Standard.png (https://image.ibb.co/fovcXb/Passengers_Ngu_Standard.png) https://thumb.ibb.co/f7NGsb/Passengers_Lanczos4_AR.png (https://image.ibb.co/cuTBQw/Passengers_Lanczos4_AR.png)
Not bad if you like neutral images. NGU Standard is way better than Lanczos4 AR.
No AR/AB or any other image enhancement used obviously for this test and the previous one, just the "very high" quality of each NGU.

NGU Sharp is a win from me. Old and new are extremely close, don't care either way between them.
The change comes from this version :
madVR v0.91.8 released
* NGU Sharp now targets middle ground between gamma and linear light
In older versions, NGU Sharp was optimized for movies that were downscaled using gamma light. A studio insider told me that some studios use gamma light and some linear light for downscaling. So starting with v0.91.8, all NGU algorithms now try to hit middle ground between linear and gamma light. Which means we won't ever get "perfect" results, but with the old version the interpolation error was sometimes big and sometimes non-existant. With the new version there will always be an error, but it will always be relatively small.
It semms like a good compromise, but I have yet to find a comparison where the new NGU performs better than the old one for films. At least, now that (real) UHD films are coming, we can test in real conditions.
Maybe a lot more films are downscaled with gamma light than linear light, or I have no luck :D
Anyway, we forget too much to thank madshi for his phenomenal work, so :thanks:

Now it's a valid question if NGU AA is able to "interpret" the images in such a way that brings them nearer to the original image creator's intent or farther away. This is a topic that would probably be valid grounds for heated discussions. Personally, when re-playing old pixeart adventure games, I'd much rather have NGU AA upscaled images than nearest neighbor.
I know you posted this a while ago, but I'm curious about something: have you considered adding some sort of (opt-in) pixel art resolution detection? Gameplay videos for older games usually aren't released in the original resolution, but rather 720p or 1080p, with nearest neighbor upscaling on each pixel already encoded into the video. For NGU AA upscaling to do anything you'd first have to determine the original resolution and 'downscale' to that resolution. I think it would be very interesting to see how something like that would look. I guess one could use an AviSynth script to do this as a preprocessing step, but you'd have to either tailor it to the video or do the detection yourself.

I'm having trouble getting HDR to kick in through madVR.
- I have a Sony 4K Projector (does HDR10)
- An intel Nuc7i5BNK (I installed latest video drivers just released 2 days ago)
- I set "HDR and Advanced color" to ON in Display settings (Since I don't have Nvdia graphics card)
In MadVR, I've tried every setting you can imagine. HDR is set to pass-through to display along with metadata checkbox turned on. In general settings, FSE mode ends up showing black. If FSE is turned off, video is just washed out. I've tried using D311 and no change.
NOW...If I load the movie through Windows 10 movie app, HDR works instantly and looks great! What setting in madVR have I not tried?
I also set LAV filters to the default settings...(Ordered Dithering, bit untouched as input, DXVA etc....)
Thanks for any help provided. It's great that HDR is working through the windows app but I want it through the amazing madVR :(

Hello,
My new projector is not good at switching from SDR to HDR and vice versa. Is it possible to have madvr "upscale" all content to 4:4:4 10bit HDR? I could'nt make this, I could'nt even upscale from 4:2:0 to 4:4:4. My projector can work with 4:4:4 10bit HDR content, and I'm using the last windows 10 update with the HDR feature (don't know if it changes anything to the problem).
I'm using the last revision of madvr.

a 1050 ti is enough for UHD it is a total over kill for the default settings but you should always take a card with 4GB Vram for UHD.
there are no maximum settings and it is not that simple there is no general answer to your question. it all depends a lot on the screen and a lot more variables.
Can anyone help with that ? how can I see movies P010 and 8 bit without changing the LavFilter settings everytime ?
it is done automaticly. just leave the settings at default and make sure nothing else is in the filter list like FFdshow. and what has this to do with madVR?

MadVR calculated timings are certainly correct. But you can't use them with "optimize" button. You can use it with CRU or nVidia Control Panel though.
In the end, nVidia bug (since the beginning of custom resolutions ?), and except if madshi is willing to use a hack to make it work, you have to enter timings manually.

This was working for me before the fall creators update and several Nvidia driver updates. madVR could add and even optimize custom resolutions! It was short lived though, something recently seems to have completely broken the API madVR uses to add custom resolutions, nonsensical because madVR is using Nvidia's API with Nvidia GPUs so they seem to have broken their own API (again).

That's possible. I should have tested custom modes when it was released, but I was too lazy at that time. :)
And I should have written my configuration: I'm in Windows 1703 and drivers 385.41.
I've also noted that you can't delete custom resolutions created by madVR, in nVidia Control Panel. You have to delete it in madVR. Logical we could say, but I was surprised at the beginning.

Not much time for madVR atm, so I've only added a "high" quality option to the RCA algorithm. The previous RCA algorithm is still available as "medium" quality. The "high" option is quite a bit slower. At very low strengths I don't see much of a difference, but at medium to high strengths, "high" quality does look a bit better to me. What do you guys think?
At low strenghts I can't see a difference. At high strenghts, I can see a difference but I can't determine if it's really better. At very high strengths it's a little bit better.

RCA: I almost always end up using, strength 10/high quality. Lower or higher strength, or medium quality, not usually very effective, for most of my anime (mostly average quality). Almost always worth, the slower rendertime, with high quality setting.
GTX 1070; 4k TV (2160p/23); NGU Sharp/high, chroma & luma direct quadruple; SSIM 2D - STRENGTH 100% + ll/ar; upscaling refinement (especially thin edges/soften edges - only once after upscaling is complete - sharpening, is almost always, my #1 issue , I think, mostly, because of 4k upscaling); low 30's render (41+ available). Images look significantly better, with RCA strength 10/high quality (more important to me, than high luma settings). Thank you!

So whats the most realistic outcome atm regarding Dolby Vision? Probably a PowerDVD 18 support in April 2018? Or first a way to convert the DV stuff to better suited formats for the TVs usb port?
Dolby should just release a DV software player on their own so people can play THEIR shit!

Or people could just stop obsessing about Dolby Vision. The HDR10 mandatory layer plays just as well, and if you don't have a 12bits display or content handling ICtCp (which UHD Bluray doesn't) the differences are minimal. The optional Dolby Vision layer is 1080p only, and the only thing it adds is 12bits over 10bits as well as dynamic metadata. Given the excellent quality of MadVR's dithering, I suspect the PQ difference from the higher bit depth (especially from a 1080p layer) would be close to nil. And dynamic metadata makes a bigger difference on low-end displays (those with a limited native contrast).
Have you compared a title in Dolby vision vs watching it in HDR10 on a high-end display? Can you qualify what you lose exactly when playing the HDR10 layer vs Dolby Vision? Those who have tried usually see minute differences and DV doesn't necessarily come on top for all PQ aspects.
DV is also a pain to calibrate by the way, and won't happen for projectors for a while.
It's not as if Dolby Vision content was not playable. So my advice is: sit back and enjoy HDR10. HDR10+ is more likely to be supported by MadVR than Dolby Vision any time soon.
In any case, between PowerDVD supporting Dolby Vision and MadVR supporting the HDR10 mandatory layer, I know which player I'll use, and it's not PowerDVD... :)

Well I do enjoy HDR10 thats for sure but having the extra touch would be great. HDR10+ well first that has to come especially for a bit older displays and then we need content for it. Wont happen before well maybe Q3-Q4 2018. So first lets concentrate on DV.
And regarding minimal differences you might be right ofc. But some movies look almost the same on Bluray vs. UHD Bluray due to 2k mastering anyway. Also minimal differences sometimes. But still we watch the big stuff if we can dont we :)

Resolution is the least important part of bluray vs UHD Bluray. HDR vs SDR, 10bits vs 8bits, wider gamut vs rec-709, HEVC compression and immersive audio are a lot more significant (and visible/audible) than 2K vs 4K. You get all that with HDR10.
So there is a much bigger difference between bluray and UHD Bluray than there will ever be between HDR10 and DV (or HDR10+).
Again, does your display support 12bits natively? Have you compared DV vs HDR10 on the same display with the same UHD Bluray? Can you describe and quantify the loss when you play the HDR10 layer of a DV title vs when you play it in DV? You are not answering any of the questions I've asked.
It sounds like you are very much influenced by marketing rather than facts.
IMHO Madshi has far better things to do (i.e. things that can produce far more visible differences in PQ) than implementing Dolby Vision, which is, to use Steve Jobs' words about bluray, "a bag of hurt" in many ways (and certainly for Madshi).
Dolby needs to know the peak brightness of the display. MadVR can't provide that, so will never get a license from Dolby, just like Lumagen will never get a license from Dolby for the Radiance Pro. You can keep asking, but it won't make it happen as long as Dolby Vision remains a proprietary system and Dolby controls who gets a license and who doesn't. It's not in Madshi's hands, even if he wanted/could spend the resources to support DV. DV passthrough from a licensed player, maybe, but again, what's the point if you lose all of MadVR's processing goodness?
Happiness is within reach: just forget about Dolby Vision :)

Trust me I know he has more "important" things to do. Like everyone else right now. Dolby Vision is more than unimportant for almost everyone and we wont see it in the next couple of months I certainly know that and its a damn shame thats what I am saying.
And its true its the 10bit and the HDR that makes the biggest difference. I think so too. And still the real 4k stuff looks a lot sharper than any 1080p material. The difference there is noticable too like the one between HDR10 and DV. It is not THAT big, not THAT important and still it is a nice piece to have in MY opinion.
Many dont care for DV many dont even care for HDR. I care for all of that good stuff :)

From what I gather about dolby vision, madvr would have to passthrough the metadata and not look to convert it into sdr. Its a black box and has licensing needs for decoding. I am also not sure if we will be able to use any of madvr's excellent processing algorithms on dolby vision encoded videos.
Ease of passthrough implementation is something I think only madshi can comment on.
It would be great to have dolby vision as more and more devices are becoming dolby vision capable and we have started getting proper (non-demo) material for it.

Like just about everything open standard will prevail, HDR10+ will drop Dolby Vision into near obscurity.
I'd rather see improvements to NGU, and sweet additions like antialiasing, temporal denoising, line darkening and Avisynth scripts with automatic profiling.
