Scenario:
I start playing a 1080p file from my external hard drive and then I go to exclusive mode. After playing for more than (10 mins?) All the queues drop and frames start dropping. I'm going crazy trying to figure out why this is happening when I haven't changed anything from the start to end of playback.

OK been messing around a lot with Nvidia custom panel:
standard setting gives me 23.971... dropped frames every 3 mins
23.977 in custom gives 23.9745....................................8 mins
23.978.......................23.9752...................................12 mins
main problem is that anything other than standard when playing BD rips results in the picture being slightly off screen to the left and many dropped frames
any cure for this?

it is an issue for me, because I want to listen to the audio in its unaltered form, meaning with that pitch that is supposed to be correct. (and no matter how tiny the difference would be, I simply want to know I am listening to the audio in its unaltered state)
You think you can tell a 0.1% pitch without doing immediate A-B testing? Why don't you just test it and find if it's really an issue? You'll avoid yourself these headaches.
But in any case, just do 24Hz, decode and use ReClock, if that's what you want.

See what you get reported as actual dropped frames after playing a 2 hour movie. With the 23,978 nividia setting I get 23,97795 and 18 minutes but the achtual dropped frames is only 2 after 2 hour playback.
But the question remains that I have is to know which of the information reported by madVR is correct

PS:
Send decoded over HDMI and Bitstream over SPDIF to the D-Box? The D-Box won't care if yoru audio has minor gaps due to bitstreaming.

The latest version of xy-VSFilter (http://code.google.com/p/xy-vsfilter/) (a VSFilter 2.39.x fork for performance) now supports both 4:2:0 10-bit (P010) and 4:2:0 16-bit (P016) input/output.

divx are fine and i tried both dvd and the direct mkv file so i must assume its something to do with the fact it is the actual 1920x1080 file format that is the problem

i did not have this problem with my gt430.
but since custom 23p messes up 3D on nvidia cards, I did not want to use it anyway, and I have no problems with the default 23p setting. have you tried overclocking your gt430? i agree on seeing how many dropped frames you actually get; or, more importantly, do you ever notice when one is reported?
i prefer to keep the HD audio unaltered as well, my receiver (HK AVR-354) handles bitstreamed audio differently than decoded audio. are you sending video through your reciever or directly to the TV?
notably, when I play 24p material at 60Hz I get no presentation glitches or dropped frames with nevcairiel's settings, but playback is still unwatchable due to severe stuttering whenever the camera pans across a scene.

i am sending it via a receiver, in fact thats why i changed the card as i wanted bitstream hd audio
i tried also playing in TMT5 which gave the same result so eliminated MPC/MadvR
so thats it i am afraid no Nvidia for me, will be returning the card tomorrow for an ATI 6570 passive
i have now put my ATI 4650 back which gives 23.97675 in default mode. no dropped frames and repeats every few hours.
pity as i wanted to use cuvid which i did try but tbh i couldnt tell if it was actually working. if it was is dosnt seem to make such a difference as MadVR
also tried SVP. cant make my mingd uo on that either

imho it makes more sense to clear up once and for all if movies really are recorded and/or supposed to be seen at 23.976 or 24 fps and then debate how to get there. after all why would I take hours of trying to get my TV and card as close as possible to the one resolution, when its actually the other which is supposed to be 'more correct' ?There's nothing to be "cleared up." Films are shot at 24.000fps.
In NTSC regions, they are slowed down to 23.976.. (24/1.001) to maintain legacy compatibility with 59.94Hz (60/1.001) playback using 3:2 pulldown. (remember, there are a lot of HDTVs out there that don't support 24p)
In PAL regions, DVDs were sped up from 24.000 to 25.000fps and displayed at 50Hz as this avoided the constant stutter of 3:2 pulldown.
With Blu-ray, discs are almost universally 23.976 in NTSC regions.
In PAL/other regions, discs will be 23.976 if they use the same encode, but there seems to be an increasing number of films that are 24.000 on the disc. (I find this tends to be more common with films that aren't in English)
There's also the odd film that is 1080i50 for some unknown reason. (they probably have no idea what they're doing...) So far I think I've had three discs where that's been the case, fortunately it seems to be very rare.
There is typically no need for time stretching when reclocking the audio to 24.000Hz.
I have yet to find any film where it has been necessary, and this is the main thing ReClock does that is "destructive."
ReClocking without timestretching, especially if you are also upsampling the audio, should not be detrimental to the audio quality.
Yep BUT you cant have HD audio then!LAV Filters can do lossless HD decoding if you also own a copy of Arcsoft TMT and use their decoder. (I think some people have also said using a trial works?)
Just watched 23 movie with 23 > 25 speedup by ReClock and 50Hz refresh rate. IMO its smoother than 23/23 and much much smoother than 23>24/60. And saves a bit of time ))As someone who lives in a PAL region, whose main source of films used to be broadcast (was happy to stay a few years "behind" and had no need for 5.1 audio) I've found that after a few years of watching 1080p24 I actually can't stand to watch film at 50Hz now. Motion looks unnatural, and if there's any music in it that I am familiar with, I just want to turn it off. I was really surprised to see just how much it stood out that I was watching 50Hz.
I suppose it's probably the same as people dealing with 3:2 judder in NTSC regions. To me, it has always stuck out, but I've heard plenty of people saying they never noticed it, and after a couple of years of watching Blu-ray and going back, they can't stand to watch it.

well one benefit of the gt430 and similar nvidia cards is that you can send hdmi 1.4 video directly to the TV via HDMI and use a DVI to HDMI cable to send bitstreamed audio to the AVR separately, negating any unwanted processing by the AVR. I am not saying that is the case - not even sure what AVR or TV you have, but it is beneficial for me as my HK receiver does bad things to video. i would at least try connecting directly to the TV and see if the video improves. monoprice has the cables for cheap.
on the other hand, if the ATI card works well for your setup and nvidia does not, then I see no reason to change just for CUVID
...
That does not sound like a good thing to me.
regarding the AVR refusing to play PCM normally...yeah I still can't believe I returned an onkyo 805 for this thing, everyone except for me loves the "HK sound" - but I prefer my audio and video unmodified.

So I was going through my old DVDs and came across my Digital Video Essentials disc.
I find it to be mostly useless these days, but some of the multiburst patterns were interesting, especially when evaluating upscaling algorithms for sharpness vs ringing. (has me re-evaluating my choices, though I still prefer a lack of ringing over sharpness)
But it really highlights what seem to be some big errors when using linear light scaling. (upscaling at least, downscaling with Bicubic 75 hasn't caused me too many problems)
This is at high magnifications, and using Lanczos 8 which shows things more clearly.

Is it possible that there's a bug in the linear light scaling implementation?

Does this really work, to send out audio and video simultaneously through 2 cables?
If so, which connectors are you using and do you have a computer monitor as well?

yeah works fine with my AVR (hdmi 1.3) and HDTV (hdmi 1.4) to allow for bitstreaming audio, unaltered video, and frame packed 3D playback. i am using a sony HDTV (xbr hx909 series), not a computer monitor -not sure if that would make a difference
i have tried running the cables both ways, does not make a difference, both work, right now i have the DVI>HDMI cable connected to the TV and the HDMI cable to the AVR.
check out this chart (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=21122837&postcount=926) posted by renethx over at avsforum, the relevant line is "HD audio via HDMI 1.3 AVR + Frame packing (HDMI + DVI)"
only works with current nvidia and intel at the moment i believe

thanks tried it and do get 23.97612 BUT although it madvr says frame repeat every few hours i get a kot of noticable dropped frames
really looking for a reason to keep this card, tried lav video and it reduces my cpu by 15% and looks a bit better but the dropped frames is a no no. the ati card is no problem

ideally we would all set our outputs to 24Hz and speed up the 23 stuff and slow down the 25 stuff

Video watching is compromise at some points anyway. And for me 24>25 speedup isn't compromise at all cause I don't see that "speedup" but I do see the smoothness. I'm not kidding, since I've discovered that trick I only watch 24 movies with 24>25 speedup and 50Hz refresh rate and feel like I only benefit from that so far.
Music? Hmmm, I can only remember one music 24p video in my collection - some Bon Jovi live concert. All the others are 29i or 25i and they are already 60p and 50p after de-interlacing.
Maybe I just can't get really smooth playback with my weak 5450 on 24/24 (w/ or w/o ReClock), but how can I get smooth playback with 25/50 in this case? IMO, 24 is just not enough for smoothness, 24/60 has pulldown judder and 24>25/50 is ... perfect.

If you see "bit exact" in ReClock's monitor window, it's... bit exact. Guys try to tell you that "bit exact" is no big deal really. People just need to watch those "DTS-HD MA" and "bit exact" for some time, calm down and get real.

i am not talking about bit exact but bitstream!
am i getting confused here or are people trying to say you can still use reclock whilst keeping the audio in its original form?
as i said i thought reclock needs to see the encoded audio to do its job. setting bitstream out renders it useless
so you would have to decode the audio from, say dts hd, input it to reclock so it could sync it with the video clock then re-encode it back to dts hd or possible lpcm and send it out over hdmi without loosing quality
i'd love if i was wrong as then i could go back to using reclock, set my resolution to 24 and enjoy smooth video along with my hD audio over hdmi to my amp and onto my PJ

These are my ReClock settings:

(note: you're probably best not to touch the pre-buffer and latency options, it requires a much faster CPU to avoid audio problems)
If you can upsample the audio, you should turn the sampling rate/format up. (with WASAPI output, you will receive an error if it is not supported) Don't go above 96kHz.
Make sure it is set as the default audio renderer in your player.
The first time you load a video with ReClock, you should also load up its preferences from the filter list, make sure speed is set to "Auto (best)", enable PAL SpeedDown, and Lock the settings.
Under no circumstances should you enable V-Sync correction or "Slave reference clock to audio".

It all ends up as LPCM either way, it's just that you have your PC doing the conversion (where you know it is being handled correctly) rather than your amplifier. (which may or may not)
If you then have reclock processing things, it will not be "bit-exact" as it has to do some manipulation of the audio stream to work its magic.
This should be imperceptible though, especially if you are upsampling the audio, and better than the alternative of watching the entire film at the wrong speed & pitch for the sake of being "bit-perfect."
If you believe that you can hear a degradation of audio quality when using ReClock, then you must hear a much bigger change from playing back films at the correct speed.

Sony's motionflow is the best in my opinion, as it generally keeps natural film-like motion, rather than looking "sped-up" but makes panning easier on the eyes.

Well, it depends. If you have Reclock set to "accept bitstream", then:
Reclock will drop/repeat bitstream packets to keep sync if "disable media speed correction" is not checked.

Um, HUH?? Decoding any encoded audio gives you LPCM. That includes AC3/DD+/TrueHD/DTS/DTS-HD MA/DTS Express/etc. Once it's in LPCM, ReClock is able to work with it by manipulating the playback rate. It's not "re-encoding it" or anything like that. More like resampling it. There is *NO* quality lost by decoding. Resampling is arguable, but, I'm quite certain you'd not be able to tell the difference in a double blind test. Sending the decoded LPCM out to the receiver over HDMI gives you the *EXACT* same quality as the encoded audio. After all, you have to decode it somewhere. Bitstream vs bit exact....there's no difference other than where the audio is decoded.

I still can't believe I returned an onkyo 805 for this thing, everyone except for me loves the "HK sound"
I am an unabashed HK hater after dealing with a 254 for the 8 most frustrating hours of my life, but those details are at the HK thread at AVS.
I will say though, as a general rule, any decent piece of (especially digital) audio electronics should be audibly transparent (and that's what it should strive for, unless it's an EQ or something like that). So when one hears "the XXXX sound" by audiophiles, it's either false (which in this case I think it is), or it's true and the equipment is not transparent, and thus lower quality.
Of curse this excepts speakers and mics and stuff like that, don't know if those can be considered "electronics".

the only reason i changed my ati 4650 was to get hd audio out to my new hdmi amp. si i may have wasted my time as i think the old one could do just that be it via a dvi dongle
so if i remeber i use the setting in TMT to output lpcm?
in mpc do i use lav splitter?

You use LAV Audio. With LAV Splitter ideally, yes. In the LAV Filters directory, copy the dtsdecoderdll.dll from your TMT install. In the LAV Audio properties, have it set to decode all audio. Use ReClock as the audio renderer. Done. You did not need to buy a new card just for audio. The software decoders have been highly stable for quite a while now. TMT's is the best for DTS formats. LAV Audio works great for the Dolby codecs. Bitstreaming isn't necessary.
(To clarify when I say LAV Audio is the best for Dolby and TMT is the best for DTS, LAV Audio is using TMT's decoder for DTS and its own decoder for Dolby in that setup)

If it's just for audio, AMD has the edge cause of the lack of the "silent stream bug". No HW deinterlacing with madVR though, but madshi said we should wait a bit before buying an NV card just for that :)
If we could do decent deinterlacing with AMD, I'd think for madVR it would be no contest. AMD doesn't have the glitches problems, and continuous, instantaneous audio are a win. Plus, generally more accurate refresh rates, for most.

So, is lavaudio better than ffdshow? Right now, I am using ffdshow (liba52 and libdts) because I can use the "night mode" for watching movies at night (you got it ;)). At daytime I just donīt check the "volume" tab, and I get normal sound... So, is LAVaudio better for that "normal sound"? Or is libavcodec better than liba52 and libdts?
And one more question... Is it better to have 32bit float or 16 LPCM? I am using ReClock and it can work on both streams...

I m still wondering which in madVR gives me the correct information. Here are my results:
NVIDIA 1080p custom 23Hz @23,976
- madVR reports 23,97495 in the top of the OSD (so a deviation of 0.00105).
- one frame dropped every 6 minutes
- 22 dropped frames after 120 minutes of playback
The above all seems 'correct', but now
NVIDIA 1080p custom 23Hz @23,978
- madVR reports 23,97795 in the top of the OSD (so a deviation of 0.00195).
- one frame dropped every 18 minutes
- 2 frames dropped after 120 minutes of playback
The above just is not right. With this I mean that some of the information is incorrect. First off all the deviation is BIGGER then with the 23,976nvidia setting but the 'one frame dropped every' information is 'better' then the 23,976nvidia setting.
And the this that is the most strange to me is that I only got 2! dropped frames so this assumes it is almost perfect which does not correspond with the other information.

ditch ffsshow and use LAV Audio decoder. ffdshow is old, LAV is the new ffdshow :)

I see that this setting is used by most people but why? Isn t it so that this way you ALTER the sound? Why not leave it on same as source? And if you can substantiate why to use it, could you tell me when to use 48 and when 96? (I own a NVIDIA GTX 460)

Somewhere in the Reclock forum (just before the sampling rate option was implemented in Reclock) it was shown that downsampling from 48 kHz to ~46 kHz (for PAL speeddown) is worse for the sound quality than upsampling from 48 kHz to 96 kHz (or even more). That's why the upsampling options were implemented.

You could try to find the highest working option. WASAPI output gives an error message if the current one isn't possible at all, but there might also be other problems with too high values. So if you have any weird problems (even something like crashes) try lowering the value.
But I don't think that higher values have any advantage. Just make sure that the value shown at "Clocks correction/Audio clock" is never lower than the one shown at "Media Infos/Audio stream".

If it's just for audio, AMD has the edge cause of the lack of the "silent stream bug".

I see that this setting is used by most people but why? Isn t it so that this way you ALTER the sound? Why not leave it on same as source? Ok, so best to check this box I assume? (see in your ReClock setup you have it disabled).Probably best, if you don't want to always be sending a 7.1 signal. (or whatever you have Windows' output configured to. I don't really have a need for it, as I downmix audio for headphones most of the time.
And what does the option 'into padded....' mean?Some sound cards/drivers don't like being sent 24-bit integer sound, they want the 24-bit data inside a 32-bit integer container. It's just a compatibility option.

Must be your setup, NVIDIA cards of a slightly newer generation support up to 24/192 at 8ch.

I would still only recommend going up to 96kHz though, as DACs are less accurate once you go above that.

Not until it does DVDs, downmixes to stereo, and has a stronger dynamic range compression mode (AC3 filter sounded great for this use). When I tick off to use DRC in lav audio the effect is so mild it is barely worth using.

LAV Audio does DVDs just fine, and stereo downmix is planned. It will however most likely not get another dynamic range compressor.

When Lav will allow to support avisynth or filter like inverse telecine or deband and will include a sub renderer, yes lav will be the new ffdshow but now no.
Although lav is very good and better than ffdshow on some points
