already changed, I use 2160p23, but without reclock I have 1 repeat frame every XX minutes, with reclock every XX hours
d3d11 worked, thanks!
well at the end the problem was mpc-hc :D seems perfect now.
another "probem": with 23.976fps video I use 23hz and in madvr is 23.97860hz, but with a 25fps video I use 25hz and in madvr is 24.99870hz and maybe i'm wrong, but doesn't seems smooth. 24.99870 is correct or should be more high?
Inside madvr you can enable "treat 25p movie as 24p" (requires reclock). it's under display modes menu for your monitor or tv. I personally prefer this to interlaced 50hz.

If supersampling, is not activated, via image upscaling, then, how do I turn it off? 720p to 2160p: double, twice or x4, to 2880p & then, downscale, to 2160p. 720p to 1440p: double, once, to 1440p & then the TV, upscales, to 2160p.
I think what huhn meant was that you should prevent madVR from downscaling to 2160p. Use NGU for 720 -> 1440 and use Jinc to go from 1440p -> 2160p.
You can enable this by setting:
activate doubling / quadrupling...
<- doubling: ... only if scaling factor is 2.0x (or bigger)
<- quadrupling: ... only if scaling factor is 4.0x (or bigger)
By default madVR uses 1.2x and 2.4x respectively.

I think what huhn meant was that you should prevent madVR from downscaling to 2160p. Use NGU for 720 -> 1440 and use Jinc to go from 1440p -> 2160p.
You can enable this by setting:
activate doubling / quadrupling...
<- doubling: ... only if scaling factor is 2.0x (or bigger)
<- quadrupling: ... only if scaling factor is 4.0x (or bigger)
By default madVR uses 1.2x and 2.4x respectively.

I am using an AMD RX 480 with madvr and it is working well. It also works well after the latest Windows updates and driver updates. I use full screen windowed mode instead of FSE. FSE doesn’t work well with NVidia and AMD, which I believe is a madvr issue. I love the stability of the RX 480.
However, I can only set the RX 480 to ‘NGU Sharp – High’ with all additional enhancements turned off to avoid skipping frames. I have experimented with ‘NGU Sharp – Very High’ and other enhancements and I must say that I see no differences between high and very high. The enhancements are also negligible.
I can think of two main reasons why I can’t see differences
1. I use high quality (almost BR quality) films: 1080 -> 4K
2. The projector (JVC X5000) picture grain cannot enhance the differences
A third reason could perhaps be my RX 480. I am not sure. What if I compare my ‘RX 480 – NGU Sharp – High’ to a ‘GTX 1070Ti – NGU Sharp – Very High (with enhancements turned on)’, will I see a significant difference?
I am asking this because I am planning to buy a new graphics card for my gaming PC. I was thinking of moving the RX 480 from the HTPC to the gaming PC. Then I need a new gfx card in my HTPC. The GTX 1080 is far too expensive and the AMD RX 580 is in my budget but it is similar to my RX 480. Another candidate could be the GTX 1070 Ti. With the GTX 1070 Ti I assume that I can set madvr to ‘NGU Sharp - Very High’ with most enhancements turned on. Is this right? I also want to use HDR in the future. Will the GTX 1070 Ti significantly improve the picture quality which I did not get with my RX 480?
BTW What I don’t want to use is reclock and other workaround tools with NVidia. For my AMD RX 480 I don’t need this and I get a most stable result. My projector switches to the appropriate frequency for the movie.
I need some advice.

i've got my AMD RX 550 working well now but i have to use reclock after I picked up the creators fall update, prior to that It was rock solid even with FSE.
I personally need FSE for 3d movies but I could turn it on and off, however i've got it stable now with it on.
Even with FSE off though I couldnt get rid of the frame drops / repeats, dont know how other people are getting this to work on the creators update.
Are you saying you use the win 10 creators update in 4K and get no frame drops or repeats without using reclock?
If so would you mind posting your CONTROL J screen when in a movie so I can have a look how yours different to mine.

Yes.
In the past I used Bluesky FRC and it did work well. It was smooth at 60 Hz. I didn't get reclock to work without frame drops. The problem of using Bluesky FRC and reclock is that madvr has to process the images at 60 hz; 1080 -> 4K. Therefore, it could not go higher than 'NGU Sharp -- Medium'.
What solved this problem was to let madvr switch my projector and TV to 23 Hz (or 24, 25 hz). On the projector I had to enable a motion enhancer to get rid of judder. The judder is part of the projector and it can eliminate it by enabling this option. I think most 4K projectors have this option. Since madvr processes the images at 23 Hz (and not at 60 hz) it has more time to process 'NGU Sharp -- High' without frame drops. So reclock or Bluesky FRC is not needed.
BTW If I had an ultra fast AMD gfx card I would probably go back to Bluesky FRC. This is best optimised for AMD and movies are very smooth at 60 hz. It gave me the smoothest picture. But switching to the native frequency is also fine.
Be careful, 4K @ 60 Hz requires a very good cable.

Thank you! NGU Sharp high/luma doubling; luma quadrupling/disabled; activate doubling only if scaling factor is 2.0x (quadrupling is greyed-out); if any more scaling/Jinc AR; RCA anything I want; Best images for 720p are now upscaled to 2160p with madVR!

I am not using reclock and I am not using Bluesky FRC.
I think you should not use reclock for your RX 550. Bluesky FRC is a better alternative.
You must add Bluesky FRC to the external filters in mpc be/hc or potplayer.
EDIT: And you need to turn on AMD Fluid Motion Video in the driver.
Does your TV/projector/monitor support 23 Hz? If it does than don't use any tools. Let the RX 550 do it. This is what I use.

right, so you're not using reclock or FRC at the moment, you're desktop is 4k and you are using windows 10 fall update - and you're not getting any frame drops or repeats??

That's good (= normal) :-) It should perform drop frames every 2 seconds without using anything.

If you start MPC BE or if you change the slider bar in MPC BE then you will see some frame drops or repeats in crtl-J. that is normal.
If you set LAV, madVR and MPC BE as above and you still exprience judder then it is time to look at your display. You can assume that the chain above is doing it right, but the display may need some minor adjustments as well (like enabling the motion anhancer). This would be the last step.

edit - you are doing a lot of processing and shapening / deblacking here, these settings ruin my picture, I tend to have all this off as most of my stuff is 1080p and 4k, also by ticking all of the trade quality for performance boxes arent you degrading your image?
is there a reason you are using lav .80 instead of the latest 82?

Evening, in the section i posted the screenshot below, i always used NGU Sharp with luma doubling setted to high. All the rest let madvr decide.
Yesterday i saw a youtube video where the user suggested to use these settings, what do you think? I'm not expert so i'm testing:

Another question, if i use Ctrl J during video, i can see that my monitor frequency is 59,9 or something similar. Never 60. Is this right this way?

I wrote unticked = not ticked (unselected). So I am not using shapening/deblacking etc,
I haven't updated LAV yet.

Is it safe to say that with the latest madVR version one can get 10bit output without using FSE?
I tried with both D3D11 exclusive and D3D11 fullscreen windowed and I believe both are the same.
Is it true? I don't know how to really interpret the OSD. Need you help.

It is a Windows 10 issue, it really is a non-issue though because you don't need to use FSE.

The differences are subtle and your inability to notice these very minor differences are probably due to the projector and the screen.

There will be no quality differences between the RX 480 and 1070 Ti beyond those caused by different settings in madVR. Pascal runs NGU faster than Polaris so the 1070 Ti will allow higher settings. The quality difference between NGU high and very high is pretty minor though, I am not sure it is worth hundreds of dollars especially since you cannot see the difference on your projector.

I was able to tune nearly perfect refresh rates with Nvidia, with frame drops expected less often than every 6 hours. I do not use Reclock or similar.

Yes, this is true. D3D11 fullscreen windowed supports 10bit output. :)

There will be no quality differences between the RX 480 and 1070 Ti beyond those caused by different settings in madVR. Pascal runs NGU faster than Polaris so the 1070 Ti will allow higher settings. The quality difference between NGU high and very high is pretty minor though, I am not sure it is worth hundreds of dollars especially since you cannot see the difference on your projector.
I was able to tune nearly perfect refresh rates with Nvidia, with frame drops expected less often than every 6 hours. I do not use Reclock or similar.

Hi, I dont see any difference either, again possible due to the fact all my movies are self ripped from blurays as remuxes, I prefer my movies on hard disk for quick access.
I had a go with FRC, its great at movement but it glitches now and again, not too often but I prefer zero glitches. My main issue with it is that it softens the picture too much for me and there are artifacts.
I have an LG 65 inch OLED, the tru motion on that is actually pretty good for smoothing video, on option 4 i get just the right amount of smoothing with only a tiny loss in sharpness which I make up using super RES on the TV anyway.
One thing I have learnt of the last few weeks though, if your HTPC is working well, disabled all updates and leave it the sh1t alone :)
I used to be a big PC gamer, used to spend hundreds on cards every year and always had problems and there was always some faffing about, never looked back since I moved to PS4 pro now, I was never a multiplayer gamer anyway and the uncharted series is by far the best set of games ever created, obviously IMHO.

I should be getting the thing back tomorrow so I can test some more. Stupid ups... Was supposed to be delivered today. I believe you're using amd so it may be different there. But with Nvidia it's certainly possible.

On my side with MediaPortal or MPC-HC, i can play 3D MVC without FSE :) on Win 10 1703 and Insider 17046 (this one need settings for FSE to works but it's related to change or bug from 1709 FCU).
Still to have 3D MVC working (10 bit) i need to have in 'display modes' for MediaPortal switch to '...when playback starts'. and not '...when media player goes fullscreen' :P

I am running a 7900X at 4.8 GHz, DDR4 4000, Titan X (Pascal), Intel 900p. Everything hot has custom water cooling. It does run madVR very well but something a lot cheaper would run it just as well.

Seriously though, just want to know that while we don't have the same hardware, I made good use of your settings.bin when I first configured MadVR for my latest HTPC (which uses a 1080 as it is also a game machine). Thank you Asmodian for your reply. You are confirming what I thought. I wasn't sure if my assumptions were justified.
I hope that madshi will look into the FSE matter. It happend before that people blamed drivers whereas madshi eventually fixed it.
When I look at the history trace of AMD drivers then it seems to me that the DVXA and DirectX9/11 black screen issues are fixed in the latest drivers. Lately Microsoft solved a black screen issue that was introduced with the lastest fall update. At AMD and NVidia the issue is unknown. However, I do not have the knowledge to blame anything. It's just to see a solution to this problem.

When I used FRC I had to turn off the motion settings of my projector and TV. Otherwise it softens the picture too much. In fact, FRC is doing the motion smoothning and the motion setting is not needed in the projector/TV. This was in my case. I had no glitches or artifacts with FRC.
One thing I have learnt of the last few weeks though, if your HTPC is working well, disabled all updates and leave it the sh1t alone :)
I leave the updates on. I had some trouble with AMD drivers, but they were fixed a few updates later. The Crimson drivers are not bad.

I did have some troubles with my soundcard after installing W10 fall update (which resulted in no sound during playback), but FSE was and is still working for me on AMD HD7970 since the fall update. It turned out I had to uninstall the fall update, disconnect my usb external soundcard, re-install fall update and re-connect my usb external soundcard after the fall update was installed. Seems like it's better to disconnect most external usb hardware before letting W10 do it's annual feature updates, and re-connect them afterwards.
Does the FSE troubles only apply to 3D video playing? I only play 1080p 2D source material on my projector. It would suck if I could only view movies on my projector in a MPC-HC window.

Evening, in the section i posted the screenshot below, i always used NGU Sharp with luma doubling setted to high. All the rest let madvr decide.
Yesterday i saw a youtube video where the user suggested to use these settings, what do you think? I'm not expert so i'm testing:

The FSE troubles are related to all players that use madVR; e.g. MPC HC, MPC BE, PotPlayer, Kodi DS, JRiver. The problems started with the last two or three madVR updates. At the time, Windows was also updated.
What version of madVR are you using? What player are you using?

I'm using the latest madVR now (0.92.9) and use mpc-hc as player.
FSE worked for me before and after W10 fall update on madVR 0.92.9 and previous versions of madVR. There was a recent update of Radeon drivers as well but that didn't affect FSE for me it seems because FSE worked on the previous Radeon drivers as it does on the latest drivers.
So far nothing seems to have changed concerning FSE on my hardware (playing 1080p 2D), before and after fall update, regardless of madVR versions and Radeon drivers versions. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Maybe 3D does give problems, but I have not tested that because I don't watch 3d stuff.

those with working 3D MVC with FSE disabled, are you sure its not converting it to SBS, i've had someone tell me this before only to find they were playing 3D SBS movies, if I turn off FSE 3D stops working, turn it on again and it works again, its as simple as that, i'm sure full frame packed 3D is not supposed to work outside of FSE.
If it worked outside of FSE you'd be able to run it in MPC-BE without MADVR?

Yes, image upscaling, doubling: NGU Sharp, algorithm quality: high (<-- luma doubling) but I don't believe image upscaling is used when I playback 1080p movies on 1080p projector, right?

I think that image scaling is not used. What you could do is scaling the image to 4K and then downscale it back to 1080. This could improve the image quality. I have no experience with this.

Why should I upscale perfectly fine 1080p source material to 4k, only to downscale it again to 1080p for viewing on 1080p projector. That doesn't make any sense to me and I can not image it'll do image quality any good. Not to mention it will have great negative impact on rendertimes too.

It could refine the image. In the past there were discussions about this here in the forum. But I think this not the case anymore.
