I used CRU with these timings as that is how it finally worked with my JVC
Hmm, I tried these on my JVC and no dice. Just get a black screen no signal.
I guess I'm just doomed to have frame skips/repeats. I just have no idea how to come up with working numbers and have not seen any info out there about how to do it.
But I mean it's not *that* bad with the EDID numbers that work and get me about 1.09 hours.

ah that sucks. I was so sure it was not going to work, but was happily surprised. Yeah 1.09 hours is still better than every 30 seconds :D
I still cant get any custom modes at all to work with my JVC NX9, everyone always comes up with a black screen.

Hi there,
I am trying to install the beta 113 over my 0.92.17 install. Are there any instructions?
I tried overwriting the files in the madvr folder, but it still reports 0.92.17.
I'm using J River, so the path is C:\Users\Media\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 26\Plugins\madvr
I have tried using the uninstall.bat, then the install.bat, but same thing...
that should be beta 113. the info part is not updated. taking the 120-200 build he has build i kinda get why.

3D Lut HTML
(I think)

nope.
if you run a verification you should end up with a html file on the desktop.

i would not call these results perfect or anything but your image should not be washed out.
you aimed for gamma 2.2 which looks "bright" compared to the usually gamma 2.4 but else this is generally not a terrible result.
if this is an LCD screen then even your CR is in an expected range.
madjock
15th May 2020, 18:50
Strange then.
If I say the display is calibrated and not use the 3D LUT, then its night and day and the picture looks a lot better ?
if this verification is for your 3D LUT then this is accurate.
but if it changes so much that pretty much means your device is setup very inaccurate which may make creating a 3D LUT hard.
but what so ever i highly recommend you to create a gamma 2.4 3D LUT for SDR sources.
and feel free to make a screen with control+alt+shift+3 and a colorful scene.
what so ever this 3D LUT show you the creators intent.

Other than the 2.2 gamma, which should be 2.4 for sdr content, the measurement looks fairly on target.
Disable Calibration in madvr, Set up the dispcal verification screen as follows, and run that and post. We need to take a look at your screen's native behavior.

Use the Default madvr profile drop down from at top. then input the settings exactly.

Holy freakn' crap.. Hahahahahha..
If that's what you've been looking at, no wonder you think right = wrong. You need a COMPLETE overhaul
First thing, It's EITHER a levels mismatch, as in your TV is expecting 16-235, and receiving 0-255, OR it just natively has a really borked tone curve.
I'm reasonably sure it's the FORMER. Since that measured tonecurve shape is the common consequence.
Set Picture Style to Monitor
Also this is an exerpt from your manual , you need to fix this part first. It looks like you have to set it to -Optimal- on either hdmi 2 or hdmi 3 port
https://imgur.com/a/eNmZwok
You're going to set gamma to 2.2 gamma on the TV. The SDR LUT will take care of conversion to 2.4 later.
Turn off all post-processing settings like picture clean, etc. dynamic contrast.
Then go to the 1070 , and you should set to rgb full 444 3840x2160
THEN UNPLUG the HDMI from the GPU, then plug it back in, and check that everythign sticks. NVidia does wonky things sometimes when you change settings, Don't reboot, reboot doesn't work the same as unplugging.

I think you'll find the Philips panels are limited range (mine is, so is use limited - full - panel (there is no option to change the TV range)).
on Philips using PC mode usually results in full range.

PC mode should help with that no ?
On many newer sets, the PC mode makes an exception for 0-255 when other modes lock to 16-235.
Either way, he has a colorimeter, he can measure and know for sure.
@ madjock, in your case, it's monitor mode in the picture style setting.
I'm actually more surprised madjock was watching that this entire time thinking nothing was wrong, kekekeke...
Here is a reference for what the TV's native tuning should approximate Before any software correction is done. This is my TV using only the 11point gamma. I watch movies @ 60 nits in the dark.

There is no PC mode on my Phillips panel. There is a monitor mode, but that just switches off any/most processing. From what I have read, and experienced, my Phillips, at least, is always fixed at limited range.
If there is something I have missed, I'd be grateful for any additional insight...
it pretty normal that most if not all processing is disabled in PC mode or call it monitor mode. i'm only aware of 1 brand that doesn't disable the majority of feature in PC mode.

I agree, but It's still limited range - checked and triple checked with test files and changing the levels in Madvr.

In chrome only upto 20 is visible (the whole of the bottom row is visible) so it's being clipped.
if you did test this in both monitor and normal mode yes limited range.
oldpainlesskodi
16th May 2020, 08:20
Yep, tested in both.
I knew this before I decided to buy. I now have it properly configured. For the money, I rate this panel (and IMHO, it is certainly a step up from the Samsung KS8000 for SDR).

So how do I want to set things up if it is limited for all the chain ?
if you use the device outside madVR you set madVR to full range and the GPU to limited.
if you only care about madVR and the rest can be clipped you can use the madVR limited GPU full version.
do your self a favour and just use GPU limited.
oldpainlesskodi
16th May 2020, 09:07
Madvr limited (although sometimes get a bug in madvr where it will still output full range, so I use custom 15.5 - 235...yes, I know it should be 16 in theory), and GPU full, then run some test files to adjust TV settings to your preferences.
As far as using calibration measurements etc, the other guys can help there.
EDIT - see, ask a question, and get two different answers lol. Each to their own.

I find it hard to believe they would bother with a PC Monitor mode and not support 0-255.
As I said in the post on the previous page, DO those settings i mentioned, Unplug hdmi and replug, don't reboot. reboot does nothing.

Hey guys,
Im running windows 7 with madvr and mpc hc, and lately i notice when watching HDR content ( which is working fine on win7 ) im getting hdmi sparkles when sending signal through AVR receiver ( anthem mrx720 ), and its only visible on really dark moments and only on HDR content, my tv is LG E6 OLED.
What i notice though, when nvidia display is set to RGB 8bit full range then i get those hdmi sparkles but when i see display to either 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 8-10-12bits sparkles are gone when signal is send through receiver, when i send it directly to TV from PC in RGB full im not getting any sparkles but the picture is not as dark and colorful as send through AVR.
So im just confused what is best thing to do strictly for watching movie content : shall i set display to Ycbcr or RGB 8bit full range ? i want to know what settings should i use to experience HDR movie or any movie in their best - how its meant to be designed to be displayed.
Hope this make sense.
Btw changing my AVR input on tv to PC mode fixes the sparkles issue, but like i said the movie is not as black and saturated as without pc mode

16th May 2020, 09:33
What if you set nvidia to YCbCr 444 8 bit?
The "not as black and saturated" sounds like your TV is in limited range (black level set to 'low') but you are sending it full range. Maybe your AVR does a bad full -> limited conversion so you get sparkles? You do not want your AVR to be modifying the video signal...

Yes my TV black level is set to 'low' ( on PC mode tv ) but when i change it to high or auto then black is brighter then on low setting.
When i switch my PC mode to hdmi icon on TV which switches off PC mode then blakc levels are set to high, but picture look same as black level set on low in PC mode --> actually when i went into options on TV when PC mode is off black level are set to low too which is not as " black " when i did put it on High black went more black but sparkles came out too
I meant when i send signal to TV through AVR then black is more black if it makes sense, the not as black is when i send signal directly to TV from PC.
I dont know if avr is modifying signal though cause there is no video processing options in Anthem AVR so to me looks like nothing can be switched on or off.
Setting : YCbCr 444 8 bit shall i set when sending signal directly to TV or AVR?
I've set YCBCr 444 and my desktop looks washed and brighter probably due to limited range in this mode, but movie looks like would be played in RGB full range just with Low level of blacks set on TV.
So im just curious if its just me thinking the blacker black is how its movie meant to be designed ? or is just me and cause im adding extra black by settings level on TV it just crashes signal cause movie not meant be like this ? hope this makes sense

Set at Limited in Displaycal and GPU and seems worse.
I have the TV set in Game mode at the moment as it was the only 1 to give me 4:4:4, will try Monitor after, but things still look a mess ?
https://filebin.net/qbgx5zzta0y6qfmq
I have selected Monitor mode, and found I had been selecting full in Displaycal, as If I set Auto, I get this warming.

Like I said, I believe these sets are Limited Range, same as mine.
@madjock
you have to take this slowly.
if the GPU is set to limited you should not use limited range pattern because windows runs in full range always and the GPU fixes this mismatch so the GPU expect full range.
your monitor mode seems to be limited range just as oldpainlesskodi pointed out.
so you need your GPU at limited range so 0-16 are not clipped (that'S about pattern not videos).

No it's not worse, it just means whatever setting was in play was expecting Limited. That graph indicates its expectation, Nothing else.
TRY monitor mode, check that superfluous post processing is disabled in advanced settings things like dynamic contrast.
MAKE SURE you've set OPTIMAL mode on hdmi 2 or hdmi 3.
https://imgur.com/a/eNmZwok
Make sure to UNPLUG and Replug hdmi cable to GPU, let it redetect.
THEN SET the GPU settings to rgb 444 Full range.
THEN run the measurement as set as before, ignore warning messages, what did you click on to get that message.

The HDMI selections is basically for UHD and I have had that selected since I got the TV.
Monitor mode only gives you Brightness/Gamma and Colour. There is no indication what Gamma you select in any option it is a scale of 0-4 in all modes.
Monitor mode gives me good readings in Lagom LCD maybe the blacks not all the way but not bad and Whites are good.
The warning comes up on initial calibration when set at Auto, if you select Full in DisplayCal it goes away, but I did not know if that was part of the problem.
I have also been adjusting the colours to set the initial calibration up as in the red/green/blue markers ? Does this have to be done ?

The latest Tests
Game mode seems the best as I get 4:4:4, set GPU at Limited after various testing and agree it must be limited it does not matter what settings are changed.
Both HTMLs uploaded one unmodified which shows colours are bad now ? All I am doing colour wise is adjusting RGB till the sliders match up.
https://filebin.net/a01biib30a8vlh4h
you lost 500 CR just from max brightness.
set the color temp pre calibration to very warm or warm. reset the RGB settings after that use the interactive measurement and make sure you get the bar adjusted if you have to do huge changes to the RGB setting just stop it a deltae 2 is fine the CR lost should be to big.
else you should be fine if you want ~170 nits and i guess BT 1886 gamma instead of 2.4.
madjock
17th May 2020, 13:31
Better ?
https://filebin.net/v2s9754t43upcpvj
CR looks fine if you want 300+ nits than this is fine.
if you want to use madVR HDR tone mapping you should create 2ed 3D LUT from the same reading with gamma 2.2 or better with native gamut and DCI D65 or bt 2020 as source.
if you only care about SDR you are done.
madjock

on a stable screen it can on an unstable screen no.

Understood. I guess I am a little underwhelmed by it all, I guess I feel better that I will have more realistic colours and It will take my eyes some time to get used to the different picture.
It is what it is I guess.
