Feature request.

Thanks madshi for this great software and support. Now madVR works just excellent in my old HTPC.

I'd like to ask for adding one feature, if possible.
There's "display modes madVR may switch to" string in settings and it works Ok.
Is it possible to add "default display mode" string with a single mode madVR would have to switch to when exiting?
I'd like to have this setting because the system stuck in 24p after rebooting in an unusual way, i.e. when pausing or playing video.
With this setting it would return to usual 50p or 60p after the next play/stop.

Thank you in advance.

madVR should already return back to the default refresh rate.

at least thre is an option for that: "restore original display mode..."

He means in case of a crash, so madVR has no change to trigger a return. Personally, I'd probably just use a specific display mode changer, write a short batch file and put it into Window's auto-start folder.
E.g. "reset_display_mode.bat":
c:\dc.exe -width=1920 -height=1080 -depth=32 -refresh=60

of cause lanczos 4 is sharper. more tabs sinc based algorithm = sharper image.
that doesn't mean lanczos4 is a better choice.

the math used on the image should have the same results. if it is different something else is the cause.

I did not said its better, only coment its look like sharper because the guy says that 4 is smoother than 3

Does anyone who have an nvidia gpu see any difference with triple buffering enabled on nv control panel? Should i enable this?

This setting is just for OpenGL and probably it's even for OpenGL just a corpse entry without any effect, like e.g. LOD bias clamp option.

Hi~
I have two OS, and I need to use different madvr settings to them.
Can anyone tell me how to save all the settings in madvr or any way to load different settings?
Thanks very much!

First of all, if you use madvr for a long time then it's wise to configure it from scratch on the new system, then copy its settings from there to the old one and modify it there. (I had problems in the past with my 4 years old settings, because I forgot that I had modified some d3d settings in it.)

Option 1: copying the settings.bin file from the madvr folder if it exist. The folder on both OS has to be writable.

Option 2. exporting and importing the registry entry using regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\madshi

So has anyone figured out why some 1080p23/24 H.264 content runs perfectly with NNEDI3 Chroma Upscaling and NNEDI3 Luma Doubling @ 1080p @ 23/24Hz, while other 1080p23/24 H.264 content ends up having severe frame delays or drops?

Define "1080p". Both 1920x1080 active pixels or some with cropping/black bars?

SuperRes doesn't work with deinterlacing. Drops my render queue to 1.

IVTC works, but isn't suitable for most DVD content as the cadence breaks can be very jarring.

Probably your GPU is not powerful enough, native deinterlace usually mean 50 or 60fps.

Ah! I just realized that 16:9 films are the ones stuttering and 21:9 films are the ones playing without problems. THANKS!

Now I just have to figure out whether it makes more sense to use:
1. Chroma Upscaling NNEDI3 256n + SuperRes (Strength 3) without Image Doubling OR 2. Some other Chroma Upscaling settings with Image Doubling NNEDI3 32n (set to Always) to get the best image possible without dropped frames in 16:9 films. I don't think its possible though...

I guess I need to make comparison shots and make a decision!

Try Chroma Upscaling NNEDI3 128 and Image Doubling/Quad to allways super-xbr, anti-bloating 25.

I've got a 980 gtx. Don't really know what's better besides a Titan. Cpu is an i7.

Is there anyone that got 3D working with Blu-Ray folder structure? I'm not sure how to playback 3D with the subtitle 3D depth metadata intact.

I tried opening .index, the proper playlist and the .ssif file, MadVR simply goes to 2D no matter what, only 3D mkvs are detected.

Are you using LAV 0.68.0?

yes, tried nightly as well. latest madvr version.
Standard blu-ray structure, .index bugged so i opened correct .mpls which works or the largest .ssif but they're not 3D.

xysub isn't updated for a while though.

Can somebody help me troubleshoot:

While watching video in conjunction of video trancoding in the background using knlmeans filter, I get FSE failure right after it finishes encoding

KNLmean uses Opencl and so do some feature of madvr, i think. Or maybe some rendering options found in madvr may be in conflict

What do you think?

Thanks

some madvr setting can put any current gpu to its knee without even trying. The only thing you can do is lower/remove some of the setting.

How do I skip to a specific frame with MPC-HC and madVR? I need to be able to change settings and view the same frame in D3D11 FullScreen mode so show comparison between some settings, but I can't figure out how to make it happen. Even if I could isolate a frame, I would need to make sure the FullScreen is in D3D11 Exclusive mode and often times this mode doesn't kick in until playback has actually started. What is the best way to take screenshots of madVR-rendered images? Its so retarded. I used Google to find a ton of sites that say madVR screenshot-taking is now supported, but not a damn single site says HOW.

Also, 3DLUT's don't apply to Image Files... Why not? When I load an image in MPC-HC, a few seconds later it disappears. Sometimes image files do not load at all... If I pause MPC-HC during image vieiwng, the picture also disappears and I get a black screen.

EDIT: Pressing CTRL+J while viewing an image doesn't remove the OSD Menu on the left side... Image-related stuff is very broken... Film playback works fine though.

How do I skip to a specific frame with MPC-HC and madVR?Right click -> Navigate -> Go To... and set the desired frame in the bottom box. Note that the frame number in that box may not be the frame you paused on - if you click Go! without changing anything the image might shift around a bit. But navigating to a specific frame in this way should always put you at the right place.

Hello.

What should i do to remove the green artifacts when playing the file below? everything else works just fine

MPEG-4 AVC Video / 27989 kbps / 1080i / 25fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1

Any advice would be really appreciated, is it because of DXVA-Copy playback?

Your settings are too aggressive, for one thing. Your present queue is not filling and you are above the movie frame interval.

to aggressive setting shouldn't do things like that.

Isn't that an artifact of NNEDI3? This is obviously a bug, but does this happen when super-xbr is used instead?

Can someone tell me where super-xbr ranks in ringing artifacts after the latest updates (without anti-bloating)? It appears improved but by how much?

huhn

there is clearly something not work as it should. but to aggressive setting isn't the issue that should trigger this.
if this is a bug in madVR which I personally doubt it should be fixed regardless if these settings can't be used in real time.

and I wouldn't be sure if this is nnedi.
i guess it is a decoding issue.

Turn off NNEDI3 for image doubling and use superxbr 100 or superxbr antibloat 25. I'm pretty sure your video card is maxed out and cannot handle doubling with NNEDI3.

Try a clean install or roll back to a previous driver (always use clean) There have been some problems with the latest driver from Nvidia but whether your issues are related to that or just a messy install you'll have to find out but I haven't seen anyone with that issue.

I reinstalled nvidia driver 364.72 and the problem seems to have resolved itself. :)

Hi,

For those who are using Nvidia graphic cards, what are the (Nvidia OSD) settings to be disable when using MadVr ?
For exemple I get smooth playback when disabling Vsync on Nvidia settings, DSR must be disable too,...

Other point, MadVr OSD says (10 bits ouptut, that's what I want), how to be sure that Nvidia does not downscale it to 8 bits ?
On the Nvidia control panel, the desktop output is set to 2160p59 - RGB 444 (8bits).
10 bits outptut is only possible for RGB 422.
But I think it's about desktop resolution only, right ?

Must we have to force RGB 444 in the Nvidia control panel or do we have to let Madvr to manage this (I mean for video playback, not for desktop resolution)?

PS: My graphic card is a GTX970 / My display is a UHD TV (10 bits / HDR / HDCP 2.2)

regards.

I am a newbie.
Tried to output 10-bit by using madVR as it is described here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=172128

My config is:
- Z170-A (Intel HD Graphics 530);
- Win7x64
- madVR v0.90.17;
- latest MPC-HC;
- Panasonic PR65VT60 (not calibrated professionally).

I am not gonna describe things regarding 10-bit output since there is a special thread for this.
But I found this rather strange behavior:
1) First I made these settings for 10-bit output (acc. to the thread mentioned above):
display->properties->10bit
display->calibration->disable & disable GPU gamma ramp.
rendering-> general-> Direct3D 11 ON
rendering->dithering->none
rendering->general->automatic exclusive fullscreen mode (FSE)-> on
2) Opened some video in the pleer.
3) There is a text in madVR OSD "fullscreen exclusive (10 bit)".
4) If I leave fullscreen with "Alt-Enter" and go to fullscreen again, then in madVR OSD there is a text "fullscreen exclusive (8 bit)".
Why it is not "10 bit"?

How long are you waiting? It takes a few seconds to switch back to FSE.

huhn

it would be "D3D11 fullscreen windowed (8 bit)" if he doesn't wait.

Because desktop has no Aero anymore? Can't say why though.

Man don t lost tour time trying 10bit because Intel drivers don't output 10bit so tour data is converted to 8bit by Intel gpu, also don t turn of dithering because you lose information... The instrution to turn off dithering is only to test if your screen suports 10bit

...problem I seem to have is that subtitles are not rendered with depth...

I have the same Problem with mvc-mkv...I tried xysubfilter but also the MPC-BE internal filters. Both times, with "Stereoskopic Subtitles disabled" and enabled as "side by side" I get the Subs in the Display plane...

the Subs are stored in the mkv as DVD-sub.
There seems not to be an Option (in MPC-BE, madVR or xysubfilter) to adjust the depth of the Subs...

I would be ok with an user-adjusted Option...I'm not talking about the "original Settings in the mpls"...

Thanks

Edit : I'm on Win8.1x64, MPC-BE from Shark007 with madVR and his standard codecs)

Try the noob guide in my signature. It won't advance your cause of getting 4:4:4 10-bit output (which may require chroma subsampling on a Panasonic plasma; I can't remember). But it will explain what each setting is supposed to do so you can make your own decision. You are turning some things off that should be left on.

I think performance still drops a little on the latest crimson drivers, but they are significantly faster than the last few catalyst drivers (fast enough that when they came out, I did not have to downgrade any of my settings at the time).

However, there is one feature of the new crimson drivers that makes the drop worth while... The custom resolutions. When I created custom resolutions with CRU or any other way, the 72 Hz resolution would always disappear upon reboot (only being enabled when making a driver level change such as Underscan/overscan or disabling/enabling the monitor driver among other tricks). Now, with the Crimson Custom Resolutions, there is no need for jumping through such hoops to ensure I have my 60, 72 and 75 Hz resolutions at all times.

So grab the latest Crimson Drivers, if you don't like them... just roll back, it's not rocket science.
