There is not much reason to use x64 except you have problem with decoding performance, especially when reclock is needed. Madvr still does not benefit from x64 performance wise iirc?

So as I mentioned above, I just tested this out. I ran both the x64 and x86 workflows for playback to test this out. I used the same version of PotPlayer with the same settings, the same GPU Driver, the only difference between the workflows being ReClock on the x86.... I also used a file that was 720p60 ==> 1024x768 with maxed out settings, which pushes my GPU to 93% (so close to the edge that even enabling a chroma supres of 1 pushes it over the edge).

Both workflows were able to keep up without dropped frames. So in conclusion, with the playback pushing the GPU to the very edge, there is no difference between x86 and x64 workflows. One caveat, this does not take into consideration decoding of any 4k files. I understand that x64 helps in that regard, but madVR does not benefit from it from what I see.

Do you have some printscreens / pictures with madVR stats in both cases showing clock deviation?
For me the situation was different:
- x64 w/o ReClock, 1 frame drop every 19.48 minutes
- x86 w/. ReClock, 1 frame drop every 4.xx hours
for a 23.976 1080p blu-ray rip on a FullHD TV 60Hz with SVP in the middle interpolating to 59.94.

I was talking about actual dropped frames, not the estimated dropped frames based on the screen refresh rate and clock deviation...

Plus, that has nothing to do with what I was testing. I have an AMD card and can set custom resolutions and you can fine tune very close to the deviation. I will always have "hours" or more without dropped frames due to this, with or without ReClock. I was testing performance of madVR with x86 and x64 setups. If you don't have the tools to do custom resolutions (CRU, built in driver tools, custom monitor drivers, etc etc etc) then you will need to either need to use ReClock (limited to x86) or use SmoothMotion if you are concerned about the "dropped/repeated frames" estimate.

how do you screw up the HDR metadata when you rip an UHD blu ray disc?
isnt the metadata baked into the video file?

if madvr doesnt detect hdr and wcg should mean that the metadata is lost right?

you have to ask the creator and there is still no way to rip UHD BDs.

No, you can use any directshow player. Lav expose couple of info that maybe other filters won't for madvr (3d, hdr, etc), so it's a safe bet to go for lav.

mpc-be has not integrated lavfilter.

mpc-be internal filter can't deal with ordered chapter while lavfilter can.
lavfilter can't deal with very exotic PS2 videos that are using a "special" type of PCM. the audio is ignored in this case while mpc-be internal filter can play them with audio.

these are just things i know the list should be way longer.

If you look back a long while ago in the thread, I posted some prelim C# "libs" that get you a good ways there. IIRC, there was not subtitle control, but settings and such where all there. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll try to dig it up from some archives...Should prolly just put it out on github or something...

this is luck because the audio clock can be totally different from system to system.

my r9 270 has an pretty good looking clock too but it doesn't match the audio clock what so ever.
I'm using HDMI for audio and usually bitstreaming... Maybe that matters. It worked equally well with the LGA775 Nvidia based board as it does in my Haswell i3.

I also had issues when I went back to an x86 player with madVR crashing, remembered madshi's post, and it fixed it for me as well.

Odd how I didn't need this fix with the x64 player though...

I created a custom resolution on my HTPC (Win 8.1 x64, Nvidia GTX660). It got accepted as 60, although it was for 59.940 (more 59.941 in my case, including clock deviation adjustment).

BUT

But apparently madVR, with FSE and DirectX11 path, decides to use the old 59 frequency from standard Nvidia Control Panel. A resolution I have no way of selecting manually, mind. And if I switch to Windowed DX11 or DX9 (both FSE and Windowed), madVR picks the correct resolution/refresh, the custom one I've created (which gives a repeat every 5.55 hours or so).

Why the heck are custom resolutions so fricking complicated?!?!? :stare:

Using Nvidia I would surely love for a "for dummies" guide to CRU. I've tried using it in the past but I never understand how to.

Alternatively, what do I have to lose most from? Switching from DX11 FSE to DX11 Windowed or to DX9 FSE? In both cases I lose 10 bit rendering but what else?

Just updated both madVR and XySubfilter, and now mpc's OSD is telling me that XySubFilter is outdated, even though I'm running the latest beta version, any ideas?

Can you make a screenshot of the error message? What versions of MPC-HC, madVR and XySubFilter are you using exactly (i.e. the numbers, not "latest")?

I have no problems using MPC-HC x64 1.7.10.207, madVR 0.90.19 and XySubFilter 3.1.0.746.

looks like you are loading an old version.
maybe you have only update the 32 bit version but you are using a 64 bit player or something like that.

I am using MPC v1.7.10 (x86) and when I uninstalled xySubFilter it could not detect it any more so I can only assume it is uninstalling correctly, but when i reinstall it isn't installing the correct version.

I was never big on subtitles because most of my content was in English, but I recently ripped and watched a foreign film, which came with English (NOT hard-coded) subtitles. I wasn't reading much of anything back when madVR just released subtitles settings because I could care less about them, until now...

I was HOPING madVR could MOVE subtitles to the very bottom black bar (for 21:9 content format, which this foreign film used), but no matter which settings I adjusted, I couldn't move the subtitles anywhere. The subtitles were integrated into the ripped MKV file itself and were not coming from a separate subtitles file. I know the subtitles were not hard-coded because I could turn them off completely...

Questions:
- Can madVR move non-hard-coded subtitles to the bottom of the screen, where black bar is located in 21:9 film content?
- If madVR CAN move the subtitles to the bottom of the screen (on the black bar), then which settings do I need to adjust and which values should I use for those settings?

Slightly off-topic side-questions:
- Can MPC-HC + LAV Filters + ReClock + madVR play films downloaded from Microsoft Store on Windows 10 Pro x64?
- If the above is possible, then where do I find these downloaded Store files and how can I make them run on MPC-HC + LAV Filters + ReClock + madVR?

How it works may depend on the subtitle, the subtitle format and the renderer. For MPC-HC's internal renderer you would go MPC-HC Options -> Subtitles -> Default Style and un-tick "Position subtitles relative to video frame". For XySubFilter you should go into madVR's "zoom control" and enable moving subtitles to the bottom of the screen.

At least it seems more logical that way. However, and here comes the weird part: If you read the BT.709, BT.2020 etc specs, they explicitly say that limited range 8bit video has peak white at 235, while limited range 10bit video has peak white at 940. Using this logic, it could be 65280 instead of 65535.

In any case, when analyzing those 16bit ramps, madVR understands both types of LUTs to be "linear". But when creating a linear 16bit ramp, madVR uses 257.

From what I remember, in some OSs and with some GPU drivers, 256 was used and sometimes 257.
Upon toggling the two states of "linear" LUTs (65280 ending and 65535 ending) while playing some movie content, I find the images look better (more natural) when the LUT is in the OS default state (ending at 65280). But this may be subjective.

I wish madVR could completely disable the LUT processing instead of setting the LUT linear. In that case even when the LUT is loaded, madVR could read the LUT and apply it internally in high bit depth like it does for Overlay mode.

Crimson 16.5.2 dramatically decreases madVR performance for me with my 390, I can't even use SuperRes 2 for 1080p -> WQHD Jinc, while with 16.5.1 even SR3 works.
Filled in a bug report, this driver gives also other users quite some problems.

Lads, if you have to choose between bicubic50,sofcubic50,dxva for image upscaling, which one will you pick-up for 1:1 bluray > 2160p.
Intel dxva upscaling is something similar to lanzcos, right?
With bicubic or sofcubic my hd5000 gpu load is arround 83% while 43% using dxva2.

Your finding is exactly mine too, I thought that other tools that I'm using are to blame but in fact is madVR behavior ... I've also created a custom 59.941 resolution in my NVidia CP to try to match SVP output at 59.94 but strangely whenever I start a movie madVR shows for 1 sec 59.940 resolution for display but then immediately switch to 59.937xx which is in fact my NVidia resolution for 59Hz.

So you're saying that if I disable FSE my custom resolution should remain locked? (59.941 instead of 59.937xx)

While interpolating to arbitrary framerates is possible, it's not a good idea. With 5:2 interpolation (24 * 5 / 2 = 60) you lose half of the original frames. But with 19998979:8000000 you basically lose all original frames.

You lost me here, why am I losing frames? The original 24 should still be there, is just that I see more frames now (the computed and interpolated ones), or you are referring to the fact that I still do not have a perfect multiple of the original frames by an integer number?

I ended up using CRU to completely redo all resolutions. That solved the problem with resolution switching but I now find myself needing to use Limited RGB range, whereas previously I was using Full RGB range. Results appear correct with madVR set to 0-255, if I set it to 16-235 colors are washed out.

Has any reviewers tested GTX 1080 with madvr? I´m looking at GTX 1070 as absolute overkill for HTPC, but wondering how these cards could perform in terms of all madvr features.

I'm gonna grab a 1080 for my HTPC. I am using a 980Ti now for 4k and believe me, it's far from overkill if you want the best quality.

Has any reviewers tested GTX 1080 with madvr? I´m looking at GTX 1070 as absolute overkill for HTPC, but wondering how these cards could perform in terms of all madvr features.

NNEDI3 is likely the only beneficiary of the GTX 1080 and 1070. super-xbr and any other post-processing can be handled by lesser cards.

Maybe the new cards will allow users to max out madVR at 4K?

Do you have a 4K TV? GTX 1070/1080 seems like overkill for normal hi-def video but would be wonderful for upscaling to 4K. Plus, hardware support for HEVC decoding would help a lot if you have source material in that format.

High frame rate or interlaced content upscaled to 4k with nnedi3 +SR + some toys will need the fastest card. I have a unlocked fury and I am struggling to add deringing on nnedi3 32 + SR for 1080i60.

Is it worth using SuperRes Anti-ringing and Bloat? With the new deringing and anti-halo, they take up the resources I use for SuperRes ringing, which one is worth more? I overall disliked de-haloing effects though.

SuperRes has its own anti-ringing. In the test images I've looked at, SuperRes doesn't ring or bloat if the image isn't oversharpened. These settings are probably a waste of processing resources. Anti-bloating is more beneficial with sharpen edges where fat lines are obvious without test images.

Any (theoretical) drawbacks to using SXBR AB 25 for BOTH doubling and quadrupling SD -> 1080p? Or would it be more advisable to use AB only for one of them (which one)?

I guess it depends on which one of the steps introduces more bloat, right? FWIW, I'm using "vanilla" SuperRes (strength 2) in addition as refinement but no other sharpeners. Most of my SD content are decent quality DVD rips.

I believe those settings are tuned to remove only the artifact caused by that step, so both anti-ringing and anti-bloating are meant to be used after every step they apply to. However, if you want to leave AB off for one, leave it off quadrupling; you do not want to double the bloat caused by doubling. :)
