Try disabling the 3dlut option in madVR's settings.
I can't even get to the renderer options since as soon as I load a file the app crashes instantly, and i have to force it to quit in the task manager ;(

ok i tried that, first of all there's no settings.ini in my madvr folder, so i just made it, pasted Use 3dlut=0, into it, saved tried again, still the same problem occurs :( thanks for all the tips by the way, any idea what can be wrong? Weird o.o
by the way i have the newest drivers for my machine, latest DX redist from august 2009, and all the updates etc

That's not enough. Try this:
[scaling settings]
luma resampler=Lanczos8
chroma resampler=SoftCubic100
luma upsampler=SoftCubic50
luma downsampler=Bicubic50
[trade quality for performance]
don't resample chroma=0
don't use dithering=0
use 10bit luma buffer=1
use 10bit chroma buffer=1
disable anti-tearing fix=0
[output settings]
video levels=1
use 3dlut=0

pasted all of the above, still a black screen on loading a file, i can see all the filters in the taskbar appear but the app itself crashes, using mpc-hc build 1264, also tried the 1276 build, same result, windows xp sp3

ouh, it's super stable and super smooth in 23.976@48.000Hz in KMP...plus mVR looks sharper than HR
very rarely, it doesn't catch the VSYNC properly when opening a new file and requires a reseek...but apart from this it's really working amazingly well on XP SP3, I think madshi said that the smooth playback routines had not been implemented yet...I guess HR and all its very annoying bugs will soon be history :)
if somehow madshi and James could sync their renderers, this would be the icing on the cake
I will try in 47.952@48Hz tomorrow, see if it makes any difference...for some reason I found it smoother than 23.976 in HR.

still no go, i wonder does the 0.10 version really store anything in .ini file? Even on another machine after changing settings it's not appearing in the folder, by the way i tested 0.09 instead of 0.10 and it actually played a movie, but it was choppy ;) so it has something to do with the actual version i think

Yes. When I change mine the ini reflects the changes.
Even on another machine after changing settings it's not appearing in the folder
Have you installed it correctly? the correct folder is where is located the file "madVR.ax". It's strange that the file does not appear... you should be doing something wrong...
With the 0.9 version, try setting the scalers to bilinear, and disabling the 3dlut.

you're right the file does appear after making changes to the settings and not reverting them back, it works on this machine:

going to try tweak around on my mac mini with 9400 to make it work with the settings in the ini file or something

ok i tried settings every upscaler, downscaler to bilinear in 0.10 disabling all quality settings, nothing works, i'll just stick to 0.9 for now cause it seems the only one working for now on my 9400m, i'm going to get new ram next week and hopefully 256 vram will make the new version work ;) thanks for all the help :)

i'd rather stick to mpc ;) my favourite player, zoomplayer installs so much stuff o.o, i think it's related to the vram, i should have the upgrade modules here in a few days so i will report back, on another note, is haali renderer known to tear from time to time with cards that have 128mb vram and using 24hz output? Posted in the main thread about it and it's quiet there ;) Cheers~

BTW, how can you handle upscaled SD again? I forgot :o
upscaled DVD looks damn good: http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/668/dvdk.th.png (http://img410.imageshack.us/i/dvdk.png/)
but it's prolly using the HD LUT? should I use ColorMatrix() in the ffdshow avisynth filter to go 601>709

BTW, how can you handle upscaled SD again? I forgot :o
I would have all the 3dluts in madVR directory and write a simple batch file to rename the files accordingly.
I use it to select the 3dlut for my projector and monitor.
Here is the batch file for setting the 3dlut when watching with my projector:
@echo off
ren "hd - pc.3dlut" "mhd - pc.3dlut"
ren "hd - video.3dlut" "mhd - video.3dlut"
ren "sd - pc.3dlut" "msd - pc.3dlut"
ren "sd - video.3dlut" "msd - video.3dlut"
ren "jhd - pc.3dlut" "hd - pc.3dlut"
ren "jhd - video.3dlut" "hd - video.3dlut"
ren "jsd - pc.3dlut" "sd - pc.3dlut"
ren "jsd - video.3dlut" "sd - video.3dlut"
It renames the current files adding an "m" (from monitor) to the beggining of the file name, and renames the projector file names that have a "j" (from JVC) on the beggining to the name that madVR expects.
The batch file for watching with my monitor is the other way around.
With this idea, it would be very easy to change the 3dlut's used, and will be completelly secure. Even if you click 2 times in the same batch file there is no problem, because since the files were already renamed it will not do anything...;)
I hope this helps.
Edit: Don't use colormatrix, you will loose quality.
leeperry
13th September 2009, 23:07
oh yes, I thought about that ;)
I already do that for my CRT and DLP, I have a batch to unrar the matching 3D LUT's from a ramdisk to a ramdisk:
chp.exe start /b /high Y:\WinRAR\Rar.exe e -y Y:\gamut\pj_SMPTE-C.rar Z:\madVR\
a bypassing RGB32 option would be pretty neat for upscaled SD...I guess my only option for fully automatic upscaled SD is:
ColorMatrix(mode="Rec.601->Rec.709")
even for 1024*768 resize on my CRT? is it considered HD? the OP doesn't say anything about the SD/HD detection apparently..
PS: ColorMatrix() has a "mmx" argument in the manual that you can set to "false" to avoid rounding errors, but it gives an error msg that this argument doesn't exist..
yesgrey
14th September 2009, 01:24
I guess my only option for fully automatic upscaled SD is...
As I've said, don't use colormatrix, you don't need it.
Simply create a batch that when you click it you rename the HD 3dlut file to a temporary name and then rename the SD 3dlut file as the HD 3dlut file. After you watching your upscaled SD, just run a batch that reverts the process.
It's as simple as that.;)
Don't mess up with Colormatrix, you will just loose accuracy and waste cpu load.
Yes, I know this is not fully automation, but that's not currently possible with upscaled SD.

hehe, yeah....well I really don't wanna run a manual config...and I very much enjoy mVR in KMP, so it's a take it or leave it kinda deal as madshi is too busy IRL to either improve mVR or answer my PM :(
do you know how SD/HD are detected? x>1024 and or y>576?
BTW, if I check "disable anti-tearing fix"....magic happens I think :D
even if I don't catch the VSYNC properly, when it reaches the last third of the screen, Reclock's tearing test doesn't hiccup anymore...now I just need to check whether this will run smoothly for +1H in a row. anyway, it looks like when you enable this option, mVR stops fighting against Reclock to control the VSYNC :)
noee
14th September 2009, 01:42
BTW, if I check "disable anti-tearing fix"....magic happens I think :D
It's funny you should say that....I check that option and I turned on Reclock's vsynch for "other" renderers and at 24Hz with 23.976 material, no tearing and it is as smooth or smoother than MPC-Goth.
leeperry
14th September 2009, 01:52
hey cool! yeah I thought about this option in Reclock, it was on my list of stuff to try :)
anyway, if it can play smoothly for +1H, I might finally have my bulletproof butter-smooth HTPC solution
quite frankly, mVR is smoother and sharper than anything else I've seen on PC up to now
leeperry
14th September 2009, 02:03
ok I haven't tried to force the VSYNC correction in Reclock yet(James said that it would hardly ever help, even w/ Overlay)....yet when you check "disable tearing fix" in mVR, it seems to act like Overlay somehow..not trying to fight for VSYNC control.
seeking always hiccups untils the VSYNC reaches the last horizontal third of the screen(I currently run 47.952fps@96.000Hz), then it's dead smooth...the VSYNC sits right here in the middle and doesn't seem to move much:
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9224/kb1p.th.png (http://img17.imageshack.us/i/kb1p.png/)
it's also funny how it looks sharper IRL than in screenshots?! I don't think it's due to my imagination..but luckily I don't watch screenshots :p
PS: I've tried to seek like 50 times, it only failed once!

It's somewhere in this thread... but yes, I think that's x>1024 or y>576 but remember that one of the points of madVR is to upscale with better quality, so why are you upscaling SD before feeding it to madVR?
leeperry

because I wanna run my Avisynth scripts on the final resolution, sharpening and adding cinema grain that is.

Oh, yes, I forgot that you like to ultra-process your video...:D
Another option, could be using t3dlut and create a 3dlut file to convert between YCbCr (in BT.601) -> YCbCr (in BT.709). It would be slower and less accurate than using only one 3dlut at the end, but it will be more accurate than using Colormatrix for the BT.601->BT.709 conversion.

not sure, but because Reclock can't detect the framerate of DVD's...and because KMP offers seamless playback, you can just click on the first VOB and it will open all of them seamlessly....mVR and Reclock won't complain either
KMP final is out BTW: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14938

As far as I know, not at the moment, as Madshi has not implemented the subpicture pin. It was on his todo list before he did have to pause this project.
Could work with the external vsfilter.

This is little bit offtopic, but I haven't got any help from other forums so here it goes...I've tried MadVR with latest KMPlayer and the picture is beautiful. My problem is that when I add Reclock to the game I loose digital audio and reclock file info says:Unable to find file name (in KMPlayer) and the media gets played at normal speed. In MPC-HC everything works fine with Reclock. So is there any settings that I haven't noticed in KMplayer. I've tried just about everything by now...

My template textfile is
Input_Bit_Depth 8
Input_Video_Format HD YCbCr
Output_Bit_Depth 16
Output_Video_Format HD RGB_PC
Output_Primaries 9 [insert display color primaries here]
The comandline is (with HD_PC beeing the template):
C:\Program Files\madVR\cr3dlut>cr3dlut.exe HD_PC.txt HD_PC.3dlut
Then place the .3dlut files in the madvr Folder and name it "HD - PC.3dlut".
Next, you need to make shure that the input is YV12
Then you can find the options in: right click-> Filter -> MadVR Renderer. Be shure to check "Use 3D Lut"
Regards, Matt
thank you so much for helping me. i think that fixed it as i no longer get stuttering.

you need to run KMP in superspeed/high speed mode, this will disable all the internal filters:
http://thumbnails22.imagebam.com/4910/a02b3e49094625.gif (http://www.imagebam.com/image/a02b3e49094625)
you can also delete all the DLL's in the KMP folder, and only keep these ones:
KIconLib.dll
MediaInfo.dll
PProcDLL.DLL
you may also want to update to the latest build of Reclock: http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupReClock1849.exe
it should look like this at some point:
http://thumbnails21.imagebam.com/4910/cad76d49094624.gif (http://www.imagebam.com/image/cad76d49094624)
and I find seeking more stable in mVR when checking "disable tearing fix", as normally it seems to fight against Reclock for VSYNC control....just an idea, though.

If you use the 64-bit build of MPC-HC, you would need a 64-Bit build of madVR too.
So unless a 64-Bit build of madVR is made available, you cannot use that renderer with 64-Bit MPC-HC or any other 64-Bit player!
Hint: The 32-Bit build of MPC-HC does run on 64-Bit Windows just fine ;)

Ok, thanks a lot ! :)
There is an other problem I think without this subpicture pin : there is no On Screen Display available.
Right ?
Except this problem, MadVR works very good on my system (KMP Final, ffdshow, reclock, CoreAVC on ATi 3870@50.000Hz).
The smoothness is excellent, maybe better than Haali Renderer, colors are amazing, the sharpness is better than HR and nicer than EVR. :)
I didn't see one drop in the 2 movies and 3 series I watched, but after one hour, madVR lose Vsync and drops until I do stop and play. Maybe because I opened a few times ffdshow during the playback.
But it's not hazardous like Haali, for sure.

I am curious. I have a laptop with an Intel 4500MHD + 9600M GT and when I attempt to use MadVR on the 4500MHD, I get a message telling me that the graphics card only support power of 2 textures. If there was a setting created to bypass that warning, would there be a way to allow MadVR to run, or is it fundamentally impossible because of how MadVR is written?

Which Forceware drivers are you using?
My 9600M GT appears to experience similar issues with 190.xx drivers, but is fine with 186.81. I am using MadVR 0.10 with MPC from CCCP 9-09-09 + Reclock 1.8.4.8 (everything otherwise default settings).

Yes i actually am, but even if use FFDshow same thing occurs, when i launch a file with 0.10 mpc loads all the filters in the tray menu, but the playback doesn't even start, remains at 00:00, and the player itself freezes, i have to manually quit the process ;(
