OK, I just tested again with a progressive video (but the "real" content is interlaced), with LAV set back to "auto".
It still doesn't work for either filename 'deint=on' or ctrl+alt+shift+D.
And yes, changing field order doesn't help.
(Having wrong order will have weird result in video playing, but weaving won't happen like huhn said).
deint=film does work for telecined content (but mine is truly interlaced, not telecined).
Just in case I was not clear before:
The bug is about when force deinterlacing by using filename flag or manual toggle,
not by setting "force" in LAV (which works!).

IIRC, AMD has (or used to have) some image improvement processing options enabled by default. Make sure you're not falling into a processing trap.
Will look into that.

there is no difference in black level this has been proven countless times using measurement hardware you are imagine things or your level settings are messed up.
can you make a screen with ShowRenderSteps would be nice to see AMD back with some NGU capable cards.
I'm sure you are correct.

Cool. I don't have 3d, so couldn't give any advice.
In terms of software - I have found Adrenalin vr 19.7.2 to be the most stable (so far).
What are your findings?

It looks like a bit as 1060 6GB (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1881568#post1881568) probably a bit more powerful but not much.
Note that if under the 2160p result are the upscaling refinements settings then they are not used (since you don't do doubling).

it's much more powerfull than 1060 6gb. I went from a rtx 2080ti and only had to lower a single setting im my 2160p profile, chroma NGU Anti-alias (Very high) to (High) rest of the settings aren't changed
I'm using these settings from https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=259188

Isn't the chroma layer still doubled for 2160p? Wouldn't the refinements still apply there?
I wouldn't take my current results as any sort of reliable benchmark. I just wanted to give a rough ballpark idea of what people are seeing in the real world, but fine-tuning it is still a work in progress. There are almost certainly things I can do to improve performance. That said, I think I will be returning my reference 5700 for one of the aftermarket 5700 XT's that should be available any day now. I was hoping they'd come out before my return window was up, but I may just return it and use my RX 560 until they're available.

No, without image upscaling the upscaling refinements are not run. Chroma scaling is not image upscaling. Image Processing is run after chroma upscaling, if you wanted to process 2160p for some reason.

Most people don't push their cards to their limit so unless you're looking at gpu usage and render times etc then how would you know? Typically the lower resolution profiles would be more demanding too unless we're talking 60 FPS? I'd trust the benchmark more than a statement without actual numbers and specifics, which I'd like to see for both these cards..the wait continues.

No they are not. Read the article i linked to above. From the article I quote.
"madVR’s tone mapping can be very resource-heavy with all of the HDR enhancements enabled. To make room, I would recommend simply reducing the value of chroma upscaling to Bicubic60 + AR. Bicubic is more than acceptable as a basic chroma upscaler and is not in any way as impactful as madVR’s tone mapping in improving image quality."

I tend to agree but I dont think we can have a proper conversation without a reliable benchmark tool made by MADSHI, in the meantime this is all we can do.

Ok, so I've set on my profiles with these https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=259188&pid=2238977#pid2238977. They mostly work. The medium setting on a 1660ti is too much on the 1080 profile and I still get frame jumps every one in a while. It's not the entire time, but it's enough to get annoying. Please halp. Is ther anything else I can try to keep the settings I have. I do have high doubling, low direct quadruple on the 1080 profile. It's the only way I could get it to work without going to 97% on the card. Right now everything goes from about 68% to 74% on the card.

Overlock your card, reduce chroma settings down, remove any unnecessary prost processing (more than one sharpener, debanding) change some trade quality for performance options.

you should be careful with these "test". a 1060 can do very high if you know what you are doing.
i have no idea why AMD user here are unable to provide proper screens with MS to get an idea but that's the case here.
up to this days no one did this properly with vega. don't get me wrong they don't have to do that.
i may get one in a couple of weeks and i will provide data that will give user an idea how they performance with proper numbers.

That option would be absolutely terrible for a video player.
If anything you should enable it on a per-game basis, not globally, since it can interact badly with any sort of games as well if they rely on the graphics driver to provide buffering for smooth rendering.

I'm having a strange issue I'm hoping someone here will be able to help with. A number of video files are failing to play in MPC-HC with MadVR as the renderer. MPC opens, but it just stays Paused. Clicking Play or Stop does nothing. If I switch the renderer to System Default or Enhance Video Renderer they play fine. It's not crashing or anything, so there's no error to report. They just don't play. Google has proved unhelpful, so I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas.

There are two minor issues I am aware of.
1 - I have an issue where colours/reds are blown out with SDR material sub 60hz, I have tried any of the new drivers so I dont know whether its fixed. You will only see it if you are setup for HDR / 10 bit though. This can easily be fixed though on my system by setting up madvr calibration to BT2020.
2. The is a bug in MADVR when using 3D, if your desktop is 4k and you play a 3D MVC movie, when it comes out of the movie and drops back to 4k you get HDMI loss, there are lots of ways around this.
Some people have reported banding in some situations, i've never seen any ever, I have a 2015 4k LG EF950v OLED.
I'm currently using a RX 580, its good for NGU high but I usually run it at medium or low in to keep heat and noise down, i generally find there is no distinguishable differce between high and low for me anyway.
So is it not fixed with latest 19.8.1 ?
I have OLED LG C6 55"

In my case, I think it had to do with using D3D11 as the decoder in LAV Video. I need to do some more testing, but I think changing it to DXVA2 may have fixed it. I'm just hoping that won't be a step down in quality.

When using copy-back DXVA2 is the same quality as D3D11, there is only a difference when using Native decoding.

It may will be, i'm running 19.2.2, i dont upgrade any more unless I have to, no point as there have been no major updates to MADVR, this issues are minor for me, happy to stay as is.
Note this problem goes back as far as 16.8.x.x so i dont hold out any hope of it ever gettting fixed but i'm just not bothered as my system is 100 % working no frame drops or banding.

To match the driver settings of the video card - UHD/8bit/RGB/60Hz. Nvidia has no problem with this.

if it is washed out you either set it up incorrectly or it doesn't work with AMD or your TV.

AMD API need 10 bit input no matter what to trigger HDR.
you have to wait for madshi to update the AGS to even have a chance for 8 bit HDR.

Ok. With it set at 10 bit in Madvr device properties, 60hz HDR kicks in with correct colors fine (obviously at 60hz the output to the screen is 8bit using Full RGB).
So, I'll ask again, why would you want to set Madvr to 8bit to watch HDR? Isnt 10bit part of the HDR spec?

24th August 2019, 11:19
@madshi
Nowadays the bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.2 or 1.4 is not enough for monitors with combination of high resolution, high refresh rate and 10-bit. Those monitors require compromises like lowering refresh rate, lowering bit depth to 8-bit or chroma subsampling depending what target you want to achieve.
It is possible to implement an automatic switch of combinations of resolution, refresh rate, bit depth and color format in madVR?
Thank you.
huhn
24th August 2019, 11:22
HDR is not 10 bit and clearly not RGB on UHD BD. your TV supports 8 bit RGB so it has to be a spec.
video encoding/presentation and processing are very different things. 8 bit panels in Tv are very common even in flag ships and that's fine if the processing is fine too.
and why would you want to set madVR to 8 bit why not? sending 10 bit to the driver so it will change it to 8 bit is clearly not good.
