is it sufficient just to overwrite the old xysubfilter files without re-registering anything?

Depends on which old version you have installed. If it's not too old then overwriting should probably suffice.

Hard to say, haven't intensively tested it. But so far several users which had severe performance problems with AMD (probably due to copyback) have reported much better performance with the new madVR builds. However, some users also don't noticed any performance gain. So it's hard to give a definite answer. My current impression is that there's probably no copyback, anymore. But this doesn't give a general performance boost, it just removes a bottleneck *some* users had problems with.
I'm hoping so as well. Just a final confirmation would be awesome. It would definitely influence my choice for the next grahpics card (next year's new generations) if there would be no OCL alternative until then. :)
In the meanwhile, also the upcoming R9 380X could be interesting.
Originally I was planning to work on SuperRes and other stuff.
Not a pity to wait a few days more, really looking forward to what you want to change.

OMG!!! madshi torrents of love flowing in your direction for xysubfilter full positioning control. This is what I was waiting for, correct (subs rendering on black bars in 2.35:1 movies)?
Edit: I tried it. It's what I was waiting for. But. As soon as the filter is called to draw on black bars, there's flickering in the image while the subtitle is displayed. Meaning the flicker happens at every new subtitle line being displayed.
Tried it with MPC-HC x86, LAV 0.66 and the dll you've posted for XySubFilter.

Correct, although it depends on circumstances. With text subtitles: Works just fine. With bitmap subtitles: Can work if the subtitles are coded to be displayed in the black bars, and if the encoded video doesn't have the black bars cropped away.

Can confirm the flicker. Win 8.1 DX11 MPC-HC 1.7.9 latest lav. x64.
[edit] Alright, it came back so I'm gonna keep it here. Switching to windowed fullscreen with ordered dithering crashes madvr when displaying subtitles.

madshi, I grabbed a screenshot of the problem with flickering when displaying subs. It happens as soon as any kind of scaling is happening. MPC-HC loads files 1:1 with my configuration, if I slightly enlarge the window, even with no subs rendering on black bars happening, it starts to flicker.
http://i59.tinypic.com/2dqj28l.jpg
It stays like that for a fraction of a second, hence what I perceive is flickering. And it happens every time it switches from a sub to another. When the same sub is being displayed the picture remains steady.
It's happening with both x64 and x86 builds. Both with D3D9 and D3D11, fullscreen, windowed, exclusive, overlay. Windows 8.1 for me.

Some feedback regarding the new xysubfilter version, rendering queue and present queue are not filling properly and the rendering times jump like crazy when the subtitles are shown, I'm using the stable mpc-be x86 1.4.5. Options in madvr checked - automatically detect hard coded black bars -> zoom small black bars away, crop black bars.

Just bought a new motherboard and Intel i5 6600 GPU. Going to use the integrated graphics from Intel (Intel 530).
Can someone help me out with the chain I need to setup in order to get everything setup correct? My main purpose is watchting full HD Blu-Ray content..
Are the following settings correct:
1. At the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel: Quantization Range on FULL RANGE (other possiblities are DEFAULT RANGE and LIMITED RANGE)
2. At the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel: IT Content: Enabled (other option is DISABLED :))
3. At the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel: YCbCr: Disabled (other option is ENABLED)
4. In madVR properties: PC Levels 0-255
5. In LAV Video configuration: RGB Output levels: Untouched (as is) (other options are TV (16-235) or PC (0-255)
6. On my display device (Epson TW9200 projector): HDMI Range on EXTENDED (other option is NORMAL)

madshi, regarding the flickering problems with subs when black bars rendered, I can confirm that deactivating smooth motion eliminates all flickering. So you might wanna look into that (on my HTPC I don't need/use smooth motion, so this is really good news for me).

Also experiencing random crashes with new XySubFilter - sometimes right after start, sometimes after several minutes of playback without any user interaction. Both windowed and fullscreen, both with ordered and random dithering.
Also, when not crashing, main ASS subs (not signs/karaoke etc.) in 16:9 content played at 4:3 monitor can suddenly increase their size and shift outwards; and after some time they return back to normal. I'm still on XP, which presumably makes things so bad.

madVR v0.89.8 released

* fixed: XySubFilter subtitles sometimes flickered when using smooth motion
If you still get crashes with v0.89.8, and if the crash looks like somewhat similar to this one:
http://madshi.net/exc-ss3.gif
Then please click on "show bug report", then press Ctrl+C, then you have the bug report in your clipboard. Paste it to a text file and upload it somewhere for me to look at (don't attached it to this forum).
If your crash box looks different, then things will be much harder...

Ok, got two crash reports. Both say that the crash occurs somewhere inside of Direct3D when madVR tries to do some rendering.
Can you guys confirm that switching back to an old XySubFilter build "solves" the issue? Which older XySubFilter build are you using? How often do these crashes occur? Do they only occur with specific video files? Or with all video files? And quite important: When using madVR v0.89.6 with the new XySubFilter build, do the crashes occur or not?

A bit late to report, but flickering seems to be fixed. Ordered dithering still crashes MVR when switching to windowed fullscreen. Testing more tomorrow. Here is the link to crash log: http://pastebin.com/j1acKYUP Looks like it's only for timed text streams, since animated (for example in anime) subtitles seem to work.

Yes; older one is b705.
How often do these crashes occur? Do they only occur with specific video files? Or with all video files?
They are quite random and unpredictable. E.g. there is a file which crashed every time almost immediately after opening at first, but since then I can't get a single crash or sub misplacement on it - very strange. I tried several mkv with ass (both 16:9 and 4:3) and one avi with srt, both in fullscreen and touch from inside window. Everything crashes at first, but after several times with one file (restarting player even if not crashed) it seems that crashes are gone or less frequent. But the random subtitle size/position changes can still reappear on them (not leading to crash).
And quite important: When using madVR v0.89.6 with the new XySubFilter build, do the crashes occur or not?
Yes, atm it seems no crashes and no bad size/positioning in this combination. Will check more thoroughly a bit later.

Hi Madshi,
I've been using MadVR for a few years now and absolutely love it. Thanks you for all your work on it!
I've noticed lately that some of the encodes I have that are labeled 1080p are actually just short of full 1080p resolution because they've had the black areas cropped from the 1080p source, sometimes on all sides. I'd like to be able to play these back at full screen on a 1080p display by replacing the black bars rather than scaling them. For example, if I have an encode that's 1912x808, I'd rather display it at that resolution centered in the screen than to have it scaled up to 1920x811.
I was wondering if you'd consider a MadVR feature to disable scaling when the playback resolution is within a certain fraction/percentage of the source resolution.
Or is there already an option that does that that I've somehow missed?
:thanks:

I believe I have the same problem as XMonarchyY. Windows 8.1 GTX980 358.50 (also occurred in 355 branch). MPC-BE 1.4.5 MadVR 89.4
Not sure if baii was describing the same problem but I also didn't have this issue in 88.16 with D3D11 path. Stutter is easily reproducible by pausing and resuming at ~1 second intervals or stepping frame by frame (ctrl+right). The render and present queues are 'empty' following a pause resume cycle but the D3D11 path (present every vsync) stutters i.e. plays back a previous frame before advancing and the debug OSD increments the presentation glitch count accordingly. D3D9 new path seemingly unaffected

1) Build 709: Same as the older 705 build, just with my position changes for v0.89.8 added:
http://madshi.net/XySubFilter709.7z
2) Build 741: Same as the latest 744 build, but *without* my position changes for v0.89.8:
http://madshi.net/XySubFilter741.zip
Please test both builds with v0.89.8. Probably one of these will have the crashes and one not. Which is which?
Yes; older one is b705.

Yes, atm it seems no crashes and no bad size/positioning in this combination. Will check more thoroughly a bit later.
The random size/position changes are not reproducable at all? It's not always the same video file / playback position where it occurs, but totally random? And does this problem occur only when using the new XySubFilter build? Does it occur when using an old madVR build (e.g. v0.89.6) with the new XySubFilter build?
Can you also please test this random size/position changes with the 2 builds linked at the top of this post?

Referencing other users which have reported something several pages ago doesn't really help me much, because I don't feel like spending a lot of time searching for the posts you might have meant (or not). If you want to reference other users, please quote them, or at least post a link to their posts, so that I know what you're talking about.
Anyway, your D3D9 and D3D11 screenshots both show an empty render queue. But the D3D9 OSD shows only dropped frames while the D3D11 screenshot shows both dropped frames and presentation glitches. So I'm not fully sure how to interpret these screenshots and your report.
If you have a problem with D3D11 mode, with queues not filling after unpausing, then please create a debug log for that situation. Thanks.

2) IT Content : I disabled it, the small help says that for watching video content you should disable it, though I don't know what the preferred state is.
4) in MadVR, is the same: PC Levels 0-255
5) RGB Output levels in LAV, I use default (I think) : PC (0-255)
Though, some videos are still looked washed out, but you can use the Source Level trigger feature (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+I) of madVR to switch to double or triple expanded.
(I will have more questions about this when I'll gather up my thoughts :) )

That's probably because moving subtitles into the black bars can cost a bit of extra rendering performance in some situations (one more processing step). There'll probably be an option to move subtitles (or not) in a future madVR build, which should then give you the same lower rendering times with the latest XySubFilter build, if you decide not to move the subtitles into the black bars. Anyway, for now I need feedback from those users who can reproduce crashes, before it makes sense to even look at render times at all.

Hey Madshi, with 741 there is no flicker nor crashes with OD. 709 crashes with OD, but doesn't flicker. Tell me if you want me to test some more. Going back to old Beta2 705 "solves" the issue.

Using madVR 0.89.2 (the one I was previously using) with the 744 XySubFilter build I don't get any crashes.
madVR 0.89.8 with your test builds gives this:
741 no crash, subs obviously inside the content box (not moved to black bars)
709 crash, with this bug report http://pastebin.com/b8ep8htk
It's worth noting that 709 crashes only when the rendering window size is enlarged. As long as there aren't "extra" black bars to render subs on, it works just fine.

1) Create a debug log which captures the crash.
2) Upload your settings ("settings.bin" file in madVR folder, or "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\madshi\madVR\Settings").
3) Make a screenshot of the debug OSD from with exact window size setup in which the crash occurs, so that I can see which size your video had, which size the monitor, which scaling algos were used etc.
