Since I changed my GPU from GTX1070 to AMD's RX480, my tv show a "no signal" message, when the gpu switches tv mode from 60hz to 23/24hz mode or hdr mode. Seems like the amd needs a bit more time to change modes. The GTX1070 chenged a bit faster and no message was shown.
Is there any option within madvr to reduce switching time ? (maybe I will try Windowed and FSE modes...
Anyone with a LG Oled and AMD gpu got the same problem using madvr's auto display changing?
The AMD driver supports nowadays a link connection option. It checks the hdmi signal. Perhaps you should turn it off. BTW I gave no issues with my RX480 and a samsung TV.

Xbox app? I disabled all notifications and i have intel HD. Was never interrupted by notifications even on windowed. Idk what you are talking about. On my end if i compare FSE and FSW i see big differences in PQ on windows 10 previous Fall Update.
I think what he meant was, IF you had notifications enabled, they would still pop up on what seems to be a fake FSE environment ?, and by that mentality if they can, then its not exclusive.
I don't see any banding and the likes in Windowed mode, although I don't have Intel and have an nVidia card.
I would have thought more people would have kicked up a fuss if that was the case.

Hi, black screens when switching can have several causes, I get that when switch back from 3D output 1080p23 to 4k60hz, if I put my desktop in 1080p before i play a 3D movie it doesnt happen so there is a bug with MADVR's refresh rate switching (RRS), I thinks its MADVR only because if I turn off MADVR RRS and us MPC or KODI DS to change refresh rates they are fine, no black screens, no loss of HDMI.
I logged a bug with MADSHI who is looking at it, he cant seem to reproduce it though so it might be something to do with my AVR or TV. I have a denon AVR-X2200 and an LG OLED 2015 EF9500.
I also get black screens and other odd behavour if I dont use Full screen windowed mode in KODI DS, I also have to have FSE ticked to get 3D to work but its not required to get HDR to work from memory,

the system wide 3d may make it work in windowed.
you know you can workaround the resync with hotkeys or something like the MPC-HC web UI.
What is system wide 3D?
When I play a 3D film, my Vertex switches the calibration of my PJ to a 3D user mode, MadVR automatically calls a batch file that enables 3D on nVidia (otherwise it doesn't work half the time) and the film plays in 1080p23(FP). I don't want to enable 3D system wide the whole time, especially before the film starts playing.
Regarding the sync on audio/subtitles, I don't use the keyboard or the mouse. I use iRule on my ipad that launches the hotkey in MPC-BE using MCE controller to display the subtitles / audio track menus. That's when FSE sucks with long HDMI resyncs. No issue at all in windowed mode, it's instant. Anyway, that's only a minor issue when playing 3D as I never use FSE for anything else (2D SDR/HDR)
My front end is MyMovies using MCE. I don't want to touch a keyboard or a mouse just to play a film. :)

FSE is a lie on windows 10.
it obviously can't disable processing at your screen.
notifications and stuff like xbox app, nvidia experience and stuff like this can show "infos" over it because the exclusive part is not true anymore it's just a simulation that been the case for a lot of windows version not only the newest.
i'm not saying you shouldn't use FSE but there is stuff it clearly doesn't do.
I keep hearing you say this, but from other comments and my own observations I'm not sure this is entirely true. Have you confirmed this with the fullscreen optimizations disabled, and everything about the gamebar display totally disabled? (fullscreen optimizations is just the per app gamebar overlay setting afaik) For me both jriver and games in which fullscreen exclusive has actually been switched to can no longer have ANY notifications appear over them, just like classic FSE. It may still be somewhat emulated but on my win10 ver 1803 it still seems to "do" more than you say yours does when fullscreen optimizations are disabled, this also causes it to conflict even more with focus assist if it activates at all during FSE.
edit: Also the part mentioning disabling screen processing, although I agree it probably can't force this, maybe it is changing the content type reported to display by win10 and thus the display is disabling processing on its own because of this behavior.

I use a LG 65"C8 OLED with a Denon AVR X-4200 and the XFX RX480 GTR.
I tried some settings and it seems that with D3D11 mode I loose the hdmi signal for 1-2 seconds. That causes my display to show the no singal message. When I use D3D9 it works. Screen goes black too for 1-2 seconds, but no display message is shown.
The HDMI Signal setting within the amd driver panel doesn't change anything.
While trying to find the solution for the "no signal" message, I just saw that my rendering stats show 20,99ms rendering times under the average stats tab.
Under max stats it always shows 38,xx - 39,xx ms rendering times. Any idea why the max stats are always so high?

upload sample file to google drive or whatever,

I also have an Radeon RX480 8GB card, so I can test for you.

Oh my gosh. I just read through more than 100 pages of posts, since my last post... Thankfully the experienced users in this thread are doing a stellar job with the support work, as always. Thanks a lot, guys!
Browsing through those 100 pages of posts, I only picked a few posts to reply to, which nobody else seemed to have answered. If I missed something important, please let me know.
want to Report 2 (maybe)"Bugs".
I am using Dvbviewer + Madvr + LAV.(all latest, LAV nightly)
Win10
AMD RX560 latest Driver (Friend has same Problems with RX580)
I am using the Madvr switching Option.
Profiles are: 1080p23, 1080p24, 1080p50, 2160p23, 2160p50, 2160p60
I let Madvr scale to 1080, only 4K i let switch to native.
First Problem:
On LiveTv 1080i50 -> 1080p50 (OSD reports Source 1080 50fps) good .
On records from LiveTv (1080) (OSD says Source 25fps) -> 2160p50 but it should be 1080p50.
Second Problem:
switching to 4K/60Hz
On Hotbird is a 4K Demo Channel 60fps 30Mbit+...
When i switch from 1080x to 2160p60 its working.
When i switch from 2160p50 to 2160p60 its not working, stays on 50Hz(source info 60fps).
What is the native resolution of your TV? Why don't you let madVR always scale to that? You'll probably get better image quality that way, and the display mode switching will be a lot simpler.
Anyway, if you think that madVR's display mode switcher does weird things, I'll need a debug log, with the OSD (Ctrl+J) turned on. Then I can see in the log what was happening and why.
P.S: There's no one else who tries to switch display modes, right? DVBViewer doesn't do that, does it?
Now that reduce artifacts runs for free with lots of flexibility, are there any plans now to allow different strengths of RCA between luma and chroma? I've generally found that luma channels usually look pretty good, but chroma channels can look like trash on medium quality HD encodes. High values of RCA on chroma only might be able to give a similar effect to bilateral or reconstruction. Would there also be plans to allow RCA to run for free on NGU Standard and Soft?
I'm not sure, allowing different settings for luma and chroma makes the settings dialog more complicated. What do other users say about this? Is this generally a wanted feature?
In the long run RCA might also run for free for NGU Standard and NGU Soft (maybe even NGU AA), but it takes a lot of time for me to make that work.
Any news or leaks about the new algorithm?
Nope. Haven't had a chance to work on it recently, but I'll start work on it again soon.
I have an EDID editing utility that reads the EDID values from the registry for my displays. The data in the utility does not always match the EDID data madVR displays. For example, I have a monitor that supports 10-bit color, but according to madVR it only supports 8-bit color.
I assume madVR is reading the registry values, too, so why don't they match?
madVR does read the registry, but usually the registry only contains the first chunk, not the full EDID. madVR also accesses the GPU to try to get the full information. Usually that works. For that specific problematic display, does the size of the EDID block match?
Madshi, could you allow for chapter markings to be seen on the exclusive seek bar please?
It's on my to do list.
Will MadVR implement the updated variant of HDR10 called HDR10+ which basically implements dynamic metadata that made Dolby Vision unique?
I don't know yet, maybe. It might not actually be needed, though, because I'm planning to improve madVR's real time frame measurements, which should make metadata totally superfluous.
[B]Is it possible to use this kind of LUT's (.cube) in madVR by converting or directly
I don't know how. madVR has very specific requirements about how the LUT must be created, and also only supports 2 different file formats.
@madshi
Did you plan to create a SRGAN/ESRGAN like image doubler?
No. GAN doesn't work well for video, because it's not temporally stable.
@madshi, we can get "transfer=2048" for file name tags?
even without meta data for the HDR, it will just have to guess what the tonemapping should be.
"transfer=2048" as opposed to what other option? I'm not sure what you mean.

got an odd problem i've been putting off for a long time, i dont use MPC-HC much but i'd like to have this fixed. i've logged it on the MPC-HC forum but as it also MADVR related i'm logging here too because i'm more likely to get a response and some help here. I cant get MADVR working at all with refresh rates of 23,976, any resolution, MPC-HC loads but just sits with a black screen. I cant even get MADVR OSD control+j so MADVR cant even be loading. I've done a full wipe of both MPC-HC and MADVR and no joy, just using standard settings that have always worked. Its working fine with MPC-BE and KODI-DS. I've also tried several versions of MPC-HC, i'm not really sure what else to try here, anyone have any ideas?

For this we need to know exactly the OS, for example not only Win10, we need also 18.03.
What graphic card and what driver, I have an intel hd, a Nvidia card and an AMD Radeon to test here.
What settings do you adjust in MPC-HC and madVR?
Worth a try to test if can reproduce your issue.

AMD RX 580 - 18.8.1

MPC-HC - nothing special setup here, just bog standard minimal settings, setto load in full screen, MADVR as renderer, refresh rate locked at 23,973@23 (also tried 24hz) - (not using MADVR refresh rate switching)

madVR v0.92.15 released
http://madshi.net/madVR.zip
* HDR: improved overall tone mapping quality
* HDR: added "color tweaks for fire & explosions" option
* HDR: "restore details in compressed highlights" renamed to "highlight recovery"
* HDR: improved "highlight recovery" algo, now uses/requires DirectCompute
* HDR: added trade quality option "compromise on tone & gamut mapping accuracy"
* HDR: maxCLL is now used (if valid)
* HDR: added "hdrVideoPeak" profile variable
* HDR: added (limited) support for HDR OSD bitmaps
* added "report BT.2020 to display" calibration option
* added true GPU mode info (color format, bitdepth & dynamic range) to OSD (Nvidia only)
* fixed: low latency mode could result in judder/stuttering
* fixed: OSD API sometimes drew stuff in the wrong position
* fixed: madHcNet32/64.dll produced DCI-P3 3DLUTs with incorrect header
* added undocumented "ShowHdrMode" empty file/folder option
I've changed quite a bit of code for all the HDR changes, some of this just a couple of days ago (not even in the latest HDR test build yet). So there's a certain chance some new bugs might have crept in. If so, let me know. Fixing such new bugs should hopefully not be too difficult.
Here's a little HDR tone mapping comparison which shows the quality improvements:

I had this exact same problem with my RX460, however this was fixed on 18.3.4, could be they've broken it again.
The thing is I replaced my RX460 with an RX 580 recently so if they have broken it, they may have just broke it on the RX460, all recent driver versions have worked for me, I am currently on 18.8.1
Remove the drivers completely using DDU and reinstall again using 18.3.4, if that works then try 18.8.1.
EDIT - double check again MADVR is set to 10bit, DIRECT3D11 is ticked as well, but also turn on HDR in windows just to see if HDR is triggering at all, but remember to turn it off again as this should always be off.
One other thing that has caused an issue for me is refresh rates, make sure you are playing the video in 23,976, there isnt enough bandwidth for 10bit 60hz 4k playback.

you can not simply workaround the broken things in windows 10. you will not workaround the utterly broken desktop composition.

got an odd problem i've been putting off for a long time, i dont use MPC-HC much but i'd like to have this fixed. i've logged it on the MPC-HC forum but as it also MADVR related i'm logging here too because i'm more likely to get a response and some help here.
I've had issues where MPC-HC will load a file and sit at a black screen. It seems to have something to do with the network. If you play the file locally, it will probably work. If you browse to the file in File Explorer in the network folder and select "Open with...", it will likely also work. If you play it from DSPlayer or MPC-HC, it probably won't work. I'm not sure what the problem is or how to fix it.

I've had issues where MPC-HC ....
All my files are local, my server is also my HTPC, they all play fine at 60hz, just wont play at 23hz, feels like a drive issue but all other players work fine.
it stopped working a few weeks back, may have been the same time I upgraded to the RX580 but I dont think it was.
I might try a quick build of 8.1 over the weekend, just worried about the driver situation going forward though, my kit is quite old though so it should be ok.

Is this only supported by the nvidia sdk? Not possible with amd?
It's only possible by talking directly to GPU specific APIs. I've not checked yet if it's possible with AMD. Maybe.
if most people are now on Win10 wouldnt it be better to start concentrating on win10 dev and trying to find workarounds for the win10 issues, people just arent going to be able to go back to 8.1 and probably wont want to.
Why do you think both my development PC and HTPC are running Windows 10, although I consider Windows 8.1 to be superior (at least for an HTPC) in many ways?
There you go.
Hmmmm... It's supposed to be listed in the first line. Are you sure your update to v0.92.15 really worked? And your PC is a normal desktop PC, and not some Optimus ugliness?
any chance that you might look into the SD-files green screen now ?
What SD-files green screen?
hmm, i'm tempted to drop back to 8.1, i'm not a gamer, I need to have a think about this, rebuilding my HTPC server is a big job, what am I really going to gain / lose here?
You'll gain:
1) more stability
2) properly working FSE mode
3) no more worry about forced Windows updates
4) no worry about Windows updates breaking stuff every couple of months
5) world peace
You'll lose:
1) a bugfix for 23.976Hz vs 24.000Hz and 59.940Hz vs 60.000Hz display mode switching
2) 10bit support for windowed mode
3) headaches
Wow - ticked, and select BT2020 with a gamma of 2.40 and my SUHD set Color Space to Auto = heaven!!

Yes, desktop PC, updated to 0.92.15, reset to default settings, same result.

Yup, i'm still tempted but..
which of these are relevant to AMD cards, all of them?

Since you've not quoted anyone, it's not clear who or what you're talking to/about. Also the grammar of your post is quite weird. What does "Render queue is longer filling up" mean? And what does "it" refer to in your post?It means that starting with v0.92.15 the render queue always stays low at about half the given number of presented frames in advance (only tried windowed mode). Consequently the present queue does stay low, too. Before this version they were always full. So either latest madVR needs immensely more GPU processing power without the stats reflecting so or there's something wrong. Resetting to default doesn't help, i.e. it isn't related to my personal settings.

no native players i'm aware of apart from window FILMS & TV but I think you still may need to turn HDR off and on manually. You could just scrap HDR and use SDR conversion in MADVR or MPC-BE.
EDIT - you havent said yet whether HDR is turning on at all, assume it does when you flick the switch in windows?
EDIT - can you post your MADVR OSD?
the hdr switch seems always working with all drivers, when i switch ot on i see the tv changing in hdr mode (tv is firing the hdr osd message), for the screenshot i need to go home and update drivers, take the screen and downgrade drivers..... :( not sure if the the family is not using htpc when i'll arrive at home.
thank you as usual
