Can you send me a sample of that 720p50 3D video (for later)? Ideally the first 100MB of the movie SSIF file, plus the matching clip and playlist file(s) would be great.

Actually the video is 720p60 3D. Do you still need it? If you do can you or somebody else tell me how I can find the movie SSIF and m2ts files and their matching clip and playlist files? Right now I either play the full disc in PowerDVD or simply open the index.bdmv file in ZoomPlayer which actually plays one of the .mpls playlists but I don't know which are the corresponding m2ts and SSIF files.

STREAM\SSIF\biggest.ssif

You can find the matching clip and playlist files with eac3to. If you're not sure which is which, simply copy all clip and playlist files. Zipped up they're just some KBs.

Spoke to soon on the 2nd Issue - here is a log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59011278/madVR%20-%20log3.zip that should show playback in D3D9 no D3D11 (3D) mode with some seeks where post seek you see a bit of SBS then it goes into a std 2D image.

I think this is also related to my observation of "If move or right click the mouse to go into madVR settings and more often I get a visual effect like when leaving "Exclusive" mode" is actually it falling out of 3D to 2D

Also - I did my testing with JRiver's display rate changer off.

Other than missing 10bit support.

thats the point. If got a 10bit Oled display, so 10bit support would be nice.

Or you disable the OS & NVidia 3D checkbox. Instead activate all the checkboxes in the madVR 3D settings page, so madVR can activate the 3D OS mode only exactly when playing 3D movies. Or does that not work for you?

i'll check that...

NNEDI3. I use NNEDI3 64 for upscaling while i watch 1080p but if i watch 4k on a 4k tv the rendering time is to high

You must have more options than Bilinear if you are using NNEDI3 64 for 1080p -> 2160p upscaling. I would start at Bicubic and work my way up.

Also, use ordered dithering in place of error diffusion. And turn off debanding if the source is 10-bit uncompressed. You must be using processing resources on other settings that aren't needed for 10-bit 4K videos.

I can't get 3D to work with MPC-HC latest and MADVR...is it because I'm using Windows 7? :o

Does AMD Crimson now works properly with MadVR?

I'm still using the last AMD CCC (15.11.1) with the Latest MadVR, and everything still works properly.

Im having a very different problem than everyone else. Since .90, madvr has been crashing my display driver, often non recoverable. Where I need to hit the reset button because my monitor turns off.

Im not sure exactly what settings do this, it seems to be many, but also it seems to be random. Just when I think ive got every feature turned off that does it, another video I run crashes.

When I start one of these videos I see no picture, the sound starts playing, then a line or two of pixels in the middle of my monitor blinks as everything freezes. Then the monitor turns off. A few times the driver has recovered, but mostly its unrecoverable, needing a reset.

Im not even using the 3d feature, that is turned off.

My card is a 290x running latest driver. OS is Windows 10 x64. Player is PotPlayer. Only non native codec Im using is madvr.

I dont have madvr set to change any resolution or anything like that either, and the player starts videos in a window, not fullscreen too. Been using madvr for years and never had a problem until now.

I've got build 63 of Lav (today's nightly) and 0.90.3 of madvr.

Things are awesome in MPC-HC. Stuff is working great and looks great. What I thought was an eye swapped problem before turns out to just be me being an idiot so that's all good. (Checked on 2 movies and both are correct. obviously more testing needed)

JRiver MC21 is a bit of a different, albeit weird, story. When I play my 3D mkv's in MC21, they're 2D. Until, that is, I move the mouse and bring up the OSD for the player. Then it pops everything into 3D properly until the OSD hides, then back to 2D. WTF? LOL I won't have time to mess with it again til this weekend but I thought that was rather peculiar.

Did you try the latest beta version?

Ouch. Well, I guess we could try fixing this with a debug log. I can't promise anything, though. If the decoder is broken in some way, I don't really want to change my code dramatically to make it work, because that could introduce new issues with other decoders. But maybe we're lucky and a small change can help.

I understand.
Thank you for the effort.
If I can help in any way (logs, testing, etc.) just let me know.

Yes, if it works it's pretty great. It's just that sometimes it fails. But well, I'm not sure how often that is...

Can you link content where it "fails", also is it real world content?

Can someone tell me how HDR content mapping works when display calibration controls are disabled. What color gamut and gamma does madVR map to?

Crimson works fine with MadVR AFAIK. If you want 3D on AMD with MadVR+LAV, it's the only option as there is a bug in Catalyst which prevents proper 3D depth when there is motion in the shot.

The only problem with Crimson is when/if you want to have at the same time MadVR and other software like PowerDVD. Unlike with Catalyst, there is no option in Crimson to select the dynamic range independently from the pixel format which leads to issues (even using 3rd party utilities like RadeonMod).

Plus Crimson clips whites above 230 in 3D with PowerDVD (not with MadVR as far as I could see, but I haven't checked that specifically).

Manni

You could use a custom output format to 16-230 as a workaround. That should solve the clipping problem, but you'll lose a tiny bit of peak brightness.

Thanks but the issue isn't with MadVR (although I didn't check for this in 3D), it's with PowerDVD that Crimson clips above 230 in 3D, so the MadVR levels won't have any effects on that. I'll revisit when MadVR+LAV support BDMV+SSIF for 3D as I don't have the time at the moment to re-rip my 3D collection to mk3d.

Also custom levels in MadVR don't solve the issue with Crimson being unable to specify a dynamic range different from the one set by the pixel format, which also causes issues with non MadVR software (unless you're ready to use RGB Limited, which isn't ideal for MadVR). Hopefully other people will complain to AMD (I do every time a new version of Crimson is released) and they'll bring that back.

Plus Crimson clips whites above 230 in 3D with PowerDVD (not with MadVR as far as I could see, but I haven't checked that specifically).

hm.. I don't have an 3D HDTV neither other software (I only recognize MPC+MadVR as my Movie Player :D) plus I only watch Progressive Content Movies so I don't need any kind of deinterlacing.

Hm.. seems it's logical to use Crimson now :D

As posted on the JRiver forum, I have the opposite.
- 3D is fine without any OSD present, and also when using the the Theater View OSD at the bottom that appears when using the RC keys, but
- Drops to 2D when accessing the the Std View menu at the top when you move the mouse have hover around the top. As soon as it appears then it immediately goes to 2D but with the madVR saying it is still in 3D. It does not recover when this OSD disappears. 100% Reproducible for me.

Thanks

I get an error in the upper left corner that says something like: Could not read display mode. It only happens if I disable FSE. AMD control panel crashes and windows behave very strangely and I will have to restart.

madVR x86 latest

The situation I described with only getting 3d when the osd is displayed is also 100% reproducible. It's very strange. Unfortunately I won't have time to mess with it again until the weekend.

Same here, except running Nvidia 670, Windows 10 64-bit LTSB and mpc-hc with internal LAV. My whole computer freezes and have to perform hard reset, sometimes it happens after slight stuttering and sometimes it happens faster than five minutes from the start. Sometimes there are no problems at all.

It's win8.1+

Pardon my ignorance but does that mean it'll never work on Win7?
I refuse to go to Win 8.1 so if I may ask why does it NOT work with Win7?
Is there a special feature in Win8.1 that allows it to work?

My apology in advance for asking what seems like a stupid question. :(

yes the is a special feature in windows 8.1 and win 10 that is used for frame packing 3d.

This has been covered in the original announcement of the feature. It uses 3D functionality from DirectX 11.2, which is only available starting with Windows 8.1
So while I cannot speak for madshi's long-term plans for alternate solutions, but this way of 3D playback is never going to work on Windows 7.

Don't be afraid of 8.1. Using it in desktop mode with Start8, as I do, it's not very different to use than 7.

I find it to be the best Windows version available. Fast and rock-solid. I tried Win 10, and pretty quickly went back to 8.1.

Was hoping someone could help me understand why the audio/video clock deviation changes depending on the audio format? I've created a custom resolution for my gtx 960 to achieve an almost perfect 23.976, resulting in 0 deviation (shown on the OSD) . At least I thought I did...but it seems the 0 deviation only applies to movies with trueHD. When watching dts-ma movies the deviation is slightly greater than 0. I always thought the deviation was related to hardware? Is there anything I can do to get consistency with all audio formats?

My TV and Hardware is:

Win 7 64bit, gtx670, intel q9550

Including v0.90.2? And v0.89.19 works without any of these issues? When it freezes, does the media player still react to key presses, right mouse click etc? Or is the media player totally frozen, too?

sorry for the late answer...

I retested everything today with the newest version 0.90.3.
Sadly same result..

i try to explain it better..

0.90.0 - starting video is no problem, Video is out of sync and too fast sometimes. If i go Fullscreen the video still runs, but is totally out of sync now and the speed is wrong, also when i move my mouse the video stutters, wich never happened before, when i now go back into windowed mode, the video is black/green and sound is still playing..
I can normaly exit the player (mpchc64bit) with my mouse.Theres no error report...

0.90.1 - Same behavior as above
0.90.2 - Same behavior as above
0.90.3 - Same behavior as above

0.89.19 - Works Flawless

Like i sayd, on my CRT monitor it works without problems (also the dx11 mode).
I only have this Problem with my HDTV...
Maybe helpfull to you, heres teh specs from the TV:
Toshiba 32WL66P
Videoeingangsformate: 480p, 720p, 1080i, 480p (über Component-Anschluss), 480i, 1080i (über Component-Anschluss), 480i (über Component-Anschluss), 720p (über Component-Anschluss), 576i, 576p, 576i (über Component-Anschluss), 576p (über Component-Anschluss)

So, since its running with no problem on my CRT monitor But not on the tv, i guess it has to do with the 30hz refresh rate the TV uses in 1080i res..?(doh, in mpchc when in exclusive fullscreen it says 60fps / 60hz.)
i also tried using dx11 instead of dx9 render path, but didnt change a thing, well, dx11 doesnt work at all for me on that TV thats why i ONLY use dx9 (new render path)

dunno if you need them, but i dont know what else to post as information...

Two (2, II) Inquiries Came Up:
- Where do you get black skin for madVR?
- AFAIK specific calibration is necessary for 3D. Does that mean that 3D 3DLUT needs to be made and applied or does madVR somehow compensate on top of existing 3DLUT's, made for 2D?

You didn't exactly answer my original question (..) I only asked about one very specific thing: Namely Jinc vs "reconstruction soft".
Fair enough, thank you for making clear that I shouldn't dismiss the latter(RS) so fast.....I've run more tests today and one good test movie is the first scene in the office of "The Intern" with the main actress wearing a white wool pullover from an itunes 720p encode played at 12fps@24Hz using Reclock, impressions go like:
-the main issue is that the new chroma SR adds EE as previously observed by har3inger (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1753284&postcount=35338) and sxbr25 rings quite a bit so RS being far from soft it turns into very obvious EE, even with SR set to 1
-Jinc AR alone doesn't ring nearly as much as sxbr25 and works quite nicely with chroma SR but it obviously looks soft and far less detailed than RS
-NNEDI3 for both luma and chroma still makes the new chroma SR EE obvious, OTOH enabling it for luma only doesn't make the EE nearly as striking
-EE is good for noisy lo-res but it has to be controlled for 720p
-RS indeed appears to be the most transparent algorithm for the job in mVR, really great looking on HD video content

Long story short, could you allow us to only run NEDI & sxbr for luma doubling and not chroma? I fully understand that they both double chroma while they're at it but could you allow us not to make use of it if any possible please? Or is it because they work in RGB or something?

Anyway, SR looks very sharp and adds EE so in combination with very sharp scalers that ring it kinda gives a cartoon look to every moving object. Sxbr25+RS cannot work IMO, NEDI+RS in combination with luma+chroma SR work a lot nicer and don't come with the "oil painting" look NNEDI3 gives sometimes.

Strange. Nobody else reported this, and the only time I've seen a crash report from this source code line in madVR is from you. So I wonder why it only seems to happen to you. Can you please retry with v0.90.3? If it still occurs, can I please get another crash report? I may then have to create a test build (or several) to get to the bottom of the problem.

I can confirm the same issue with v0.90.3. Let me know if you require more info around profiles, etc.

Did you use CRU?

I use the nvidia control panel, although I have used cru to see the affects of certain tweaks on the frame rate. For my setup, using potplayer...I set a custom resolution for a refresh rate of 23 Hz in the control panel, switch timing to manual and set the refresh rate under timing to 23.976. I then set the horizontal total pixels to 2749 and leave vertical total pixels at 1125. For me, this results in 0 deviation and an average frame rate of 23.976 using madvr. But only when playing truehd movies...when playing dts, the deviation is off enough to result in a couple of frame drops.

Taking this back. Seems my system (blaming gpu drivers since it is the new black) is too unstable to draw conclusions, got freeze without running mpc-hc or madvr as well. Downgrading drivers just to try out that, could be psu as well.

I finally figure out reclock's problem, but I will see some judder during play. Madvr's osd told me 0 frame drop/repeat and 0 present glitch. I'm not sure if it is my monitor's problem.

I've tried latest madvr & lavfilters, I still get massive frame drop after play 1h10min. It happens before, only in frame packed 3D playback.

madVR is not particularly designed for the lowest of the lowest systems, especially not the default settings. You can change all scaling to bilinear, disable any and all processing, enable all sorts of trade quality for performance things, and it can probably run fine, but certainly not at defaults.
But at that point you might as well just use EVR.

Yes it is a Haswell. What should I use in LAV Video as decoder?
I have try "None" (CPU decoding?) and it works not better as I use DXVA2 or NVIDIA decoder.

Only the fullscreen mode brings this issues. If MPC-HC in a window mode then it works.

If one does this resolution is lost isn't it because madVR will shrink SBS and the panel will stretch it again when it makes it 3D? There may also be the issue where any madVR image enhancements will merge parts of both pictures together where the left and right image join?

Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking though.

i believe those "sync-strips" are what we call "video tearing" easy fix for that is to enable vsync in your nvidia/amd/intel gpu control panel.
