I have trouble with exclusive mode and latest version of madVR; regardless of starting in fullscreen or just going to FS after starting a video, there's no switch to exclusive mode on second monitor (OSD stats are telling me: 'fullscreen windowed mode'). Player is always launched (windowed/in fullscreen) on 2nd monitor.

Weird. I'll need a log - but with the next build (which is not out yet), not with the current build.

unfortunately the problem persists with v0.27. I've created a log file (http://www.mediafire.com/?99ri9dv77ik1vbw) as requested which contains the first few seconds after starting ZP in FS on second monitor. thanks a lot for investigating.

How does your monitor configuration look like? The log says this:

fullscreen windowed mode, covered by some windows
madVR window [madVR] "madVR" {-1253,1024,27,1744}
covered by explorer.exe window [Button] "Start" {0,980,54,1034}
So basically the ZoomPlayer/madVR window seems to have the coordinates (left, top, right, bottom): -1253,1024,27,1744. And the Explorer's "Start" button seems to have the coordinates 0,980,54,1034. According to this information the Start button covers a part of the madVR rendering window.

Do you have the secondary monitor placed at the top bottom of the primary monitor? That's a somewhat strange layout. Is there a reason for that? What happens if you move the secondary monitor to the right side of the primary monitor?

What is the exact resolution of your primary monitor?

:thanks: you point me into the right direction; after installing the latest ATI drivers the coordinates of my monitors slightly overlapped (mea culpa).

I use this layout to have nearly no overlap at all due to using 2nd monitor only for movies. when working on 1st one I don't like to get my mouse & stuff disappearing every time I move a thing too far beyond borders.

nevertheless, after right positioning my screens FSE is kicking in and I'll be happy again :)
I'm sorry for this self-made issue (I guess it was random luck then working with v0.25)...thank you so much for your time!

(p.s. I moved my setup/config into the signature...)

Cool. 0.27 fixed that weird issue I had in exclusive mode.

Really? I've no idea why. But well, it's all good, I guess...

I've finally had a chance to do a little testing with .27. My general observation is that it's better at frame drop than .26. I will say, .26 is very good too, but .27 is better, meaning, at the transition between windowed and fs-x, there are consistently less frame drops. BUt, for my setup, .26 would run through complete movies without a frame drop/delay (without any transitions). .27 is the same.

.27 exhibits the same "black screen, audio playing at startup" issue that has been mentioned before (.26 does not). I've tried creating a log, but have been unable to reproduce with the debug version.

.27 fixes the issue of icon select and drag on the primary causing the switch from fs-x to windowed. (present in .26)

fwiw, since the Aero issue (dual mon, diff refresh) has been fixed, I've been running exclusively with Aero ON and using the "normal" timing mode. All is good here.

Can you shorten that AVI file to a small sample, with which the problem can still be reproduced? If so, you can upload that and I'll have a look.

It might not work if the AVI file gets regenerated.

Here is the madVR log about 12 second playback from beginning. Hope this can give you some clues.

When you pause during playback, minimize the player window and bring it back to front, why do frames get dropped as reported by the OSD?

When playing back on secondary, are you loading the video file while the media player is still on the primary monitor? Or are you loading the video file after you've moved the media player to the secondary monitor?
The stuttering only happens, when the media player (MPC-HC 1.3.2267.0) is on the secondary monitor while the playback starts... and when the player is set up for fullscreen playback on the secondary monitor (and switching to the secondary monitor immediately after loading the file).

I attached the 2 log files so you could have a look.

When starting the playback on the primary monitor and then switching to fullscreen mode on the secondary monitor, the video plays "fine"... but with tearing most of the time.

Log file of me playing the non-mod16 sample I posted earlier (http://www.multiupload.com/75QNFST5AN):

Start playback, go to fullscreen, go back to normal (with shifted chroma), stop playback, close player.

madshi, some results playing back an avi file today with 0.26 and 0.27. In short 0.27 and 0.26 drop frames every 27 seconds or so. 0.26 drops less though, about half as little. See full results below. Hopefully some of it is useful.
Not sure why some of the rendering stats vary so much, but have all details below.

Core i7 920, GTX 295, Windows 7 64bit. mpc-hc 1.3.2273.0
All madVR settings at default.
1 monitor, 1920 x 1080.
Screen refresh reported by madVR is 23.96190, movie frame rate is 23.976 (says source filter).

All Fullscreen modes:
1 frame drop on load.
2 frame drop every approx 27 seconds, almost no frame delays. Noticible jerkyness during each 2 frame drops. This is in all fullscreen modes.

UPDATE:
OK some more info, I get the same frame drops every 27 seconds with evr-cp. Its graph however shows red and green lines moving away from each other very slowly, and each 27 seconds, the graph jerks, a frame drops and both green and red lines in the graph come back together.

With evr-cp + reclock in the chain and with reclocks vsync enabled, and evr-cp's vsync disabled, the green and red lines in evr-cp flatten out and the dropped frames stop. I get 0 dropped frames over a 10 min period at least.

With madVR 0.27 + reclock in the chain and with reclocks vsync enabled I still get the frame drops.

To me it looks like reclock is detecting my video hardwares refresh rate slightly differently to madVR and evr-cp. Reclock detects "Video hardware" as "Refresh 24.000 Hz (DDR) vs "display 23.96190" in madVR. I really don't know. Can it be a video driver problem rather than madVR / evr-cp? I can't imagine both detecting the refresh rate incorrectly.

UPDATE 2:
I have removed my 3 custom resolutions, and recreated them in the nvidia control panel. Now madVR, evr-cp and reclock all detect my screen as 23.962hz, absoluty 0 frame drops. So I'm not sure if this is an issue that can be "fixed" on your end. The only thing issue I see is the difference between how reclock and madVR detected the rate of the screen before I did this recreation of the custom resolutions. Reclock was able to stop my frame drops (with evr-cp) as it detected the screen (I assume correctly at that time), as 24.000hz...

Yeah I always choose 23 hz (usually giving ~23.961) but before I recreated this custom resolution (workaround to get nvidia drivers to output full range rgb) reclock seemed to pick it up as 24.000 (I think it was right in this case given the facts) but evr-cp and madvr picked it up as 23.961~. Maybe an nvidia quirk but I thought evr-cp and madvr might have been able to correctly detect the actual rate even it wasn't something I was expecting.

It seems to be this mismatch in detected vs actual display hz that caused the drops every 27 seconds or so. Strange one.

.27 exhibits the same "black screen, audio playing at startup" issue that has been mentioned before (.26 does not). I've tried creating a log, but have been unable to reproduce with the debug version.

Same here, madVR exhibits this behaviour on both of my machines (one nvidia based (gtx 275), the other on ati (hd4850)). Using mpchc latest build (or any previous one) and setting it to start directly on fullscreen mode, the audio starts but the screen remains black and finally crashes after a few secondes. If I start playback on windowed mode and then switch to fullscreen, madVR behaves normally and switches to exclusive mode without any problem. This did not happen with 0.26.

other specs : ffdshow video + audio (latest cccp beta), reclock 1.8.7.1, coreavc 2.0, madVR 0.27

Other than that great job. This past year has been terrific for htpc users with reclock's revival and the creation of madVR :)

Same here but only happens the once when madvr is installed - after a reboot all is fine (.25 and .27). Can't remember if .26 showed this behaviour.

Spoke too soon - now happening on a regular basis, exit MPC-HC, start again in fullscreen mode and a black screen with garbled audio, kill process, start again and its fine.

Intermittently when opening interlaced video (1080i50) I get constant frame drops in 0.27. Have to close and re-open MPC-HC several times before playback is smooth.

Entering/exiting exclusive makes no difference, pausing/resuming, switching to bilinear/nearest etc. Progressive video is fine.

Update: also happens when skipping chapters/seeking. Drops about 11 frames per second. Skipping chapters back + forth can either cause it to happen or fix it.

Did you try to "clean up video clock timings database" in ReClock's advanced settings? Sometimes I have to do that, especially when tweaking rates, or ReClock will report a wrong rate.

Yeah I did it twice actually but without reclock chain madvr aswell as evrcp had frame drops as they both I assume didn't detect the actual rate. They were both out by a tiny amount. Enough to give frame drops at regular intervals.

Newer builds of MPC-HC do not have the option available anymore. If you are using CCCP, install the latest CCCP bet (cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=CCCP_Beta_Testing_Guide).

if we got only a few (mb. ~20) dropped and delayed frames while watching a movie atm and we could definately say that this is not due hardware performance issues, would it be possible in the future to have no such dropped or delayed frames at all? is this possible from a technical point of view? when watchig a blu-ray via hardware BD player, if we could measure dropped and delayed frames here, do those (or something comparable) actually never occur here? is playback via stand-alone BD player always flawless in that aspect?

DScaler IVTC modwhere can I get this from? the links @avsforum seems to be dead.

I experience this exact same problem with 0.27 and ReClock. Selecting 23Hz (23.976Hz) in ATi CCC does not always work correctly with my HD4850 so I have to leave it on 24Hz. ReClock works fine with EVR-CP but with madVR I get the dropped frames and major judder every ~ 27 seconds.

I also have the black screen with audio bug experienced by other users.

Selecting 23Hz (23.976Hz) in ATi CCC does not always work correctly with my HD4850 so I have to leave it on 24Hz.

It's the same for me with the 5750 - I select 23Hz, click "apply" and it changes to 24Hz. However, setting 23Hz in Windows and/or setting MPC to change the fullscreen refresh rate gets me 23.976Hz.

Having trouble with video levels.

My setup:
JVC RS10
HDMI through Onkyo 605 to PJ
Using MPC to display Blu-Ray rips...no changes to the video.
ATI 5570

I can change the output of the video card to GB full, RGB limited, 422 AND 444...
What should the setting be so I don't clip black and white and can pass BTB and WTW. Also, what setting in madVR?

I thought I've tried all combos, but still cannot seem to get it quite right.

Thanks,
Santino

Another question. I am routing the HDMi signal through my receiver. When reviewing the on screen data from madVR, the frame rate to my receiver is 24 while the frame rate connected directly to my PJ is 23.977. Is there any way to override this in madVR?

Thanks,
Santino

Perhaps a way to "lock" in a refresh rate in the options menu.

DScaler IVTC mod: Very reliable IVTC (60i -> 24p) for all NTSC/ATSC broadcasts and DVDs. No other MPEG2 decoder can do that.is it the same for you that sometimes it looks like single frames then and when are not properly deinterlaced? I seem to get this every few seconds when playing 29.97 stuff. already tried force wave or bob, but not really a difference. seems to be better with ffdshow and the ffmpeg deinterlacer or yadif.
so using ffdshow's deinterlacing filters and dscaler together, is this ok? do I have to disable the inverse telecine mode of dscaler then?

@ robpdotcom & iaTa:

In CCC if you have added 1080p24 to the display manager and then choose 23hz for your refresh rate, when you click apply it will show 24hz - BUT it is actually 23.976hz. At least that's how it works for me.

Hi !

For some reason madvr does not go to automatic exclusive mode anymore even if no GUI is shown. I have attached the logfile. Can you see anything in there ? This is with ZoomPlayer on ATI 4770 with Powerstrip, latest 10.7 drivers, Windows 7 x64 on second monitor.

Thanks for that...this fix "kind of" worked. When I am in windowed mode I can see madVR outputting 23.977, but when I am in exclusive mode, it jumps to 24.001. I assume this is because madVR is trying to match my "display" refresh, which I believe my Onkyo is reporting as 24.001. Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Santino

A quick update. I was able to come up with a workaround, but it is not ideal. I set up a profile in CCC and set up a hot key to call the profile. Once in exclusive mode I can call that profile and it will change the output to 23.976, but if I go out of exclusive and back, the renderer goes back to 24.001. For now I think I can setup event ghost to do it automatically, but a "force 24p" would be a nice added feature "hint hint".

Did you read the post I mentioned above?
If not, here's the important part:
4) 23, 29 and 59 Hz revert to 24, 30 and 60 in CCC.This is not a big problem. When you set it to 23, it will be 23 even though the number will show 24. There is a trick though. If you are switching form 23 to 24 or vice versa, it won't switch. You need to switch to something completely different first (like 59 or 60) and then back to 24 (or 23). Same goes for 29/30 and 59/60.

[vladd below points out (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18088933#post18088933) that it's a CCC problem, you can still change at will with the Windows interface (see his post if you don't know how).]

I did read that, and it does work, but when madVR goes to exclusive mode, it changes the output to 24.001. My desktop is now set to 23.976.

Please disregard. I installed SAF for Media portal, and now magically exclusive mode is now at 23.976. Go figure.

You can forget the DScaler's internal deinterlacing (leave it as auto)

Activate FFDshow's deinterlacing, Yadif preferably, when watching 29.97fps content.

Is it a good idea to upscale in ffdshow via AviSynth tab by doing Spline64Resize(1920,x) (where x = 1920/Aspect Ratio of source video) and then send it to the renderer?

No, madVR will upscale using a resizer of your choice, including Spline64 if you wish it.

Maybe, if your GPU not fast enough for upscaling math in this case. But it seems like madVR uses better math than ffdshow or that avisynth script.

madshi,

I'm sure now that 0.27 cause "black screen" & freeze while 0.26 doesn't. Note that it happened more but not exclusive to my dual monitor setup. On the other hand, I think the BSOD is not because of madVR.

I always get the black screen first time I try with 027. It seems to only happen once and hangs the player, I need task manager to end process, then every time after that its fine until I reboot the machine then it will happen again. This situation is very simular to what happened originally with many nvidia card owners with madVR not working at all due to some slow scan line reporting issue I think madshi said it was.

I also get the random dropped frames with 027 what were not happening at all before and have gone back to previous version.

Does madVR output RGB signals? I am trying to set this up so that there is no additional processing done by my video card, so I guess my question is what should my video card output be set to in order to save all the PQ imporvements from madVR? I also seem to get random dropped(not delayed) frames 10/20 secs after seeking from time to time, this didn't occur w/ 0.26 AFAIK.

But seamless playback is very smooth in PotPlayer when seeking between files w/ different AR, it used to stutter a bit in older versions.
My options are RGB full, RGB limited, 4:2:2, and 4:4:4.

the levels options could be clearer, as they work the opposite way from HR.

the first option means: untouched levels, and the second: TV>PC conversion.

Try installing it in another directory, when you click the batch file it should come up with a window saying The DirectShow filter "madVR.ax" was registered successfully. It should be usable straight away in MPC.

After you have installed it make sure you do not delete the directoy where you ran the bat file as this becomes the installed directory. I have heard of people deleting the directory after thinking the install bat moves filles somewhere else.
