What's the message when it crashes?
If no message, but MPC appears to have frozen, have the MPC window selected and toggle the Start key on your keyboard quickly, about 10 times. (not kidding lol)

you mean the Start key to start a movie in mpc? so it would be the space key or?

no, (between ctrl and alt) to make the start menu pop up. This is not sarcasm. It appears that I need to do this to use MadVR when running Forceware newer that 186.88....

ok i understand, so i did it but mpc-hc dosen't show a message to me, it's just frozen.
i would say that's the same problem for me as i get under win 7 x64 with mpc-hc (x86).
so maybe my video card is too slow.

Yeah, so when MPC is frozen, you have it selected and press the start key a couple of times (press start and start menu is selected, press again and MPC window is selected etc), and it should unfreeze.
I have a GeForce 9600M GT which is the same, or crapper card than yours, so it's not a matter of a weak video card.

Well, I don't have that bug at all in 186.88 and lower (fails in 191.66 and some others), so I'm not really sure 'whose' problem it is.

Same problem. MadVR worked fine on my Radeon HD3650, but I've never been able to get it to work on my GT220. Instant crash on loading a file, and there isn't a hidden exceptions dialog box. And definitely not a matter of slowness: if my HD3650 could handle 1080p in madVR, then the GT220 should be on easy street.

madVR doesn't work with any of the 195.xx drivers. stick with the 191 series or older.
btw, has anyone tried using powerstrip to change their laptop refresh rate? i was able to drop my macbook pro's screen to 47.925 Hz but i can't get madVR to play smoothly.

I installed madVR yesterday on an ATI Radeon HD4670 and Intel Pentium DualCore E5200@3,3GHz system with Windows XP SP3 32bit and 720p as well as 1080p movies play smoothly. The image quality is severly better with madVR than with e.g. EVR custom which is really nice! Great work and keep going!

I dont have any issues but yes I have cuda enabled through coreavc 2.0 and all work well, gt 240 with latest drivers and w7 x64. I also use haali as splitter and ac3filter/reclock for audio.

Works fine for me on Windows 7 64 bit with ATi HD 4850, but it's hard to see the difference with the naked eye, feels more like a placebo. I've seen the screenshots from 1'st post and it's true you can see a difference on those color pallets but when it comes to actual practice, as in playing a video you have to put the idea in your head that there a difference and then ignore the content of the video find it. :D Then again, guess some high-tech Cyborgs or some robots with enhanced vision will enjoy this. :) If this was a feature of some product, I'd say it's a marketing gimmick, but since is just a free tool guess there's no harm in using it or whatever you feel like it..

...but it's hard to see the difference with the naked eye, feels more like a placebo.
The main draw of madVR is its ability to do basic color management when used with a custom 3dlut (gamut correction with primaries, whitepoint correction, and gamma correction) powered by your GPU.
If you have a wide gamut display and you create a custom 3dlut with your display primaries, you should notice a huge difference. Also, unless your standard gamut display covers something like 95%+ of BT.709/BT.601 you should see at least a noticeable change with a custom 3dlut as well.
The ability to pick your favorite resampler (options are available with varying amounts of speed, sharpness, aliasing, etc) individually for both luma and chroma is also a very nice perk. The improved chroma upsampling and dithering does help, but you are correct that it is a bit hard to notice when video is in motion.
In any case, since you obviously have not created a custom 3dlut you shouldn't be surprised that madVR looks nearly identical to other renderers. If you don't see the benefit and/or don't have the instruments necessary to use color management, then madVR is likely rather pointless to use in its current state of functionality and stability.

X2, it ashames all the other video renderers when used in conjunction w/ Reclock, they all fall flat smoothness-wise(the free CMS and perfect sharpness is the icing on the cake!)
number one competition is none.

While madVR is smooth when used with ReClock, I still find Haali Renderer smoother, but that is just me. I look forward to madshi implementing direct3d exclusive mode as well as making it stable.
Anyway, that post was targeted towards people like Alante who can't see the benefits of madVR, not people like you two who already love it.
That reminds me...
Madshi, has madVR been coded to handle VFR content (framerate changes) properly? Does madVR 0.11 even change the rendering framerate when a framerate change occurs? Does VFR currently break the VSync method in 0.11?
I ask only because I have begun having doubts about how well madVR actually works with VFR content. If the answer to any of these questions is no, this is something else I would like to see improved upon.

he recently added a registry key to get KS on W7...and did you try 24bit/24 bit padded to 32/plain 32bit? there's gotta be a way to get bit-perfect audio out of Reclock on your card, but well..this is not Reclock's support thread ;)

How can I create a custom 3dlut for my display?
You first need to know the xy color coordinates of your display's primaries and optionally whitepoint.
Optimally you would use a colorimeter or spectrophotometer to find these values.
If you don't own a colorimeter or spectrophotometer, and your display manufacturer doesn't list the color coordinates of the primaries (which would be better then nothing), you're out of luck.
Once you find the color coordinates, make four txt files (e.g. HD_PC, HD_Video, SD_PC, SD_Video) to use as input for cr3dlut, and make a line for your primaries as follows:
Output_Primaries 9 rx ry gx gy bx by wx wy
For example, the last time I measured my CRT the primaries were rx=0.627532 , ry=0.342977 , gx=0.29273 , gy=0.609456 , bx=0.147886 , by=0.076081.
Using those primary values, below is what I personally would use as input for cr3dlut (leaving whitepoint uncorrected at D65 = x 0.312713, y 0.329016):

If you want to know more about how to use cr3dlut, read the included cr3dlut_ReadMe_Basic.txt & cr3dlut_ReadMe_Full.txt or ask questions in the thread here (go to the last page) (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=139389).
Additional note: If you only have XYZ values, it is rather easy to convert them to xyz values. Just add X + Y + Z and note the sum (lets call it "S"). Then you only need to divide X by S to get x and Y by S to get y.

A 3dlut is not really necessary for a Home User, since it's intended for a professional domain like movie industry and in those situations the difference might count. And let's take your example (http://www.projectorcentral.com/Samsung-SP-A800B.htm), so yeh, if you afford to buy a projector like that for personal use, this might be useful and the differences noticeable on the projected image. But, you can't compare that to a PC monitor. Maybe on a Big Plasma/LCD or on a professional monitor (since you talked about color calibrations) this differences can be also noticed and easily distinguished with the naked eye. I'm not really a good example with a 19" monitor, yet is has a *VA panel, but even most with 24" don't seem to go with this category - unless they use a monitor with a decent panel (*VA, PVA, IPS), one that's usually expensive, for which color calibrations is a "must".

actually, it'd be a disgrace to do the gamut mapping in 8 bit on the PC if you had a Sammy pj from Joe Kane, as these happen to include the most amazing CMS you could ever dream about, and all in 12bit of course...they even come bundled w/ a "free" ISF calibration in most countries ;)
the whole point of tritical and yesgrey3's work on colorimetry(and madshi for supporting GPU accelerated LUT's!) is to get a killer CMS right on the PC if your display lacks all these options(the worst pj ever is prolly the JVC RS1, it won't even let you set gamma curves )...all you need is a $200 "Eye One Display 2" and you're good to go :)
the difference is very visible...you go from overtaned ppl to perfectly clear/natural looking colors, here's a random testimonial: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11937064&postcount=90

Maybe, but that answer is still distant to me, since I didn't tried and won't try it in near future a projector like that, aka "to expensive" for my needs. As for ReClock, still didn't manage to get it work... and this is not the 1'st time I tried it since it's an old project. Guess is my 5'th time in the last 7 years and didn't stick with it :p. On the other hand, this is the 1'st time it didn't work and had problems with it, so can't see if it improved in anyway.

If you're talking about color calibration, mine was already calibrated with Spyder 3, yet that happened 2 years ago and might need a new calibration. Since my job is design related, this is not new to me.. but home is home and work is work. As mentioned before, this are subjective opinions, since it's pretty obvious now, that some of you use professional tools for personal entertainment... and why shouldn't you, if you afford it.. But don't expect guys like me, with an HP LP1965 monitor to be entertained in the same way. That's like owning a Ferrari and saying that my Volkswagen can offer similar experience. :p
Still using madVR as main filter for video rendering, in few weeks i'll switch to others and see if I can change my mind.
