I've also read on reddit that Hardware-Assisted GPU Scheduling (HAGS) in Windows Graphics settings can cause trouble for DPC latency and game FPS smoothness (madVR and Browsers are like games for all intents and purposes). This feature offloads some queueing stuff onto the GPU, providing performance gains in some cases and issues in others. I have turned it off now for a trial run, let's see. I don't expect it will make much of a difference.

Thanks, I'll give it a try too.
Until now, nothing I've tried (power mode set to performance in cpanel and in the windows power settings, disabling CPU core parking, setting the GPU to MSI high mode, disabling the integrated Realtek HD Audio in the bios) has made any difference to the latency monitor results. I still get a single, large drop after around 2 hours. Otherwise, playback is butter smooth, I only drop 1-2 frames per hour max, which would be expected when bitstreaming.
I'm trying disabling the high precision event timer in the device manager (system devices) to see if it helps, as the HDAudio.sys has been replaced by wdf01000sys in latency monitor as the biggest culprit after I disabled the Realktek HD Audio.

In my bios which is older, two of the main power options, only 1 was turned on by default.. I have both on.
"PCIe ASPM Support" was already checked on, but I also checked on "Native ACPI OS PCIe Support".
If relevant to you, might help.

just noticed that when I play 24hz movies i always drop a lot of frames even though its telling me no frame skips for several hours, only does this with 24hz material and I dont have much of this at all luckily. Is this a known issue in general or maybe just AMD cards?

How can you tell it is happening? You stated the HUD says no frame skips.
Set your refresh rate to 48 Hz or 144 Hz and see what happens.

Hello, is there any FAQ about HDRmeasure settings?
Have got JVC NX9 + RTX4090 and want to maximize DTM quality.

measurement is been dead for years. and no FAQ.

i'm not even gonna check because it's been close to been utterly ignored.
the last i don't know 60 beta version switched away from measurement and to real time detection.
and if you mean with 184 the madVR beta yes they are still released but not for measurement.

Yes, i didnt know details. My question was about latest "real time" release.
What setting give maximum quality on projector?
Peak nits are about 70 in my case.

I watched a 10 bit 4k movie (though not HDR) lasting a little over an hour, and the end result was 11k+ presentation glitches with 54 dropped frames and 19 repeated frames (no delayed frames). Does this mean my settings are seriously screwed up (doesn't seem that way, but maybe I've been desensitized to glitchy performance, who knows)? There's been discussion here of good settings for newer graphics cards, but can anyone tell me what they should be for GTX 1070?

presentation glitches have nothing todo with your display hardware.
a reason for presentation glitches are composition rate mismatches like having 2 screens with different refreshrates

Like Gsync enabled by default, which is dependent on tv model. Wrong flush settings can have also impact.

Not needed. In Nvidia settings for the Player file. Do also that:
Set Monitor Technology to Fixed Refresh Rate. Does that help?

"Is your decoder set to D3D11 Automatic?"
I've been trying D3D11 and GTX 1070 for a while, but now I changed the latter back to automatic.
"Set Monitor Technology to Fixed Refresh Rate. Does that help?"
Where can you change this? And why not Present a frame for every VSync?
Anyway, I noticed that presentation glitches actually accrue more quickly when the video is paused, so yeah, don't know how good of an indicator it is for actual performance... (btw, I now had only a little over 100 of them about midway of a movie lasting almost two hours, but when I paused it, went for a cigarette, to the toilet, and brewed some more coffee, it had meanwhile increased to over 300...)

Why, is that Attachments Pending Approval gonna last forever? I would have to make an account for this single purpose, haven't had any need for one for such a long time...

Try frames to 3 instead of 1. If that doesn't do it, then also try cpu queue 12 and gpu queue 4.

Actually I have already changed it back to 3 after that screenshot, seems to be less glitches now. Will try the other suggestions, thank you!

If those don't do it, try also in the player's file explorer properties on the compatibility tab, to place a check on "Disable full-screen optimisations".

I'm suddenly having presentation glitches here in the last month or 2 that I've never had before either. Running a 5800x3D with a 4090. C1 oled at 120hz, vsync on, fixed refresh forced on etc. I hadn't touched settings in over a year and just started noticing small hiccups. Wonder if it's something with a newer driver? It's driving me nuts. doing it with all content, though UHD HDR seems to be more frequent.
edit: this is my HTPC so it's single display.
edit2: this doesn't happen if i output 24hz, it's just when im doing 120hz.
edit3: ok, so turning off fullscreen exclusive mode seems to fix it. What do I lose by running windowed mode?

Hi there -
When I use PotPlayer or MPC-BE the MadVR renderer doesn't properly reflect the crop flags set in the MKV file. Instead the image is shifted down towards the bottom of the frame.
Would be great if possible for MadVR to properly read the crop flags and display the image in these players. I'd rather not use the feature to auto-remove black bars as the crop flags would be more accurate if correctly configured.

It depends, at one point it was needed for 10-bit colour, etc. and finer refresh rate control. Nowadays, generally not needed anymore.. but I will comment that if you never had that disable optimisations checkbox checked, then it wasn't working properly for the past year+. Fullscreen exclusive only works properly now if that box is checked, since version 1909 of W10 I think (forget the exact #) because Microsoft changed how compositing works.
So, use windowed and enjoy, or toggle that checkbox in the player properties. Or do both, it won't hurt anything.

If I check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" then madVR reports always 60.000 Hz for composition rate.
What does not work exactly properly if one does not check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" and uses exclusive mode?

Is there a command line override flag (or other means) to force madTPG to output incoming R,G,B triplets at HDR scale in HDR mode?
Out of curiosity, I am trying to calibrate/profile my LG C9 with DisplayCAL. I have ColourSpace and CalMAN licenses as well and at least ColourSpace can configure madTPG to output HDR range (I haven't tried this with CalMAN but I don't actually use that software anymore) but DisplayCAL doesn't (or at least I am not aware of how to trigger that behavior). Yes, I can use SDR mode and an HDFury Integral to inject fake metadata but that's tedious and prevents me from profiling in VRR mode (the HDFury Integral is not VRR/GSync compatible and the display panel does behave somewhat differently in VRR mode and that's how I normally feed the display: GSync is always active, refreshrate remains 119.88Hz for movie watching as well to keep everything similar rather than having to use different picture modes for different input signals and display panel modes).

without it you don't have FSE.
you should also not blindly active it it is not save at all.

How do I get rid of 60.000 Hz composition rate if I go this way?
huhn
25th November 2023, 21:10
restart and hope.
this can happen when you switch from 60 away to something else and windows just stays at 60 and the GPU switches.
real FSE doesn't have a composition rate.
Sunspark
26th November 2023, 01:55
Yes, this is right, I remember now that the composition rate would get stuck sometimes if one was switching around all over the place, but a reboot always fixed it.

windows issues.
if this happens with FSE it is just reported for fun or you don't have real FSE.
mpo my changes something about that.
i don't know enough about it. newer windows 11 version are also able to have more than 1 composition rate at the same time not sure if this is part of mpo
Would be worth comparing exclusive mode in EVR-CP and MPC-VR to see if this happens with all of them.
why do you see a composition rate when using these renderer?
is EVR CP FSE even worth mentioning? i mean it has a seek bar now that wasn't always the case.
to bad they took overlay from us so good. well there was no 10 bit version so well what ever.

I haven't "blindly activated it". I use it because without the matching of refresh rate to the FPS of the video it enables, I get worse performance as measured by rendering time, and even more importantly, mismatch between those two often causes lagging movement, even if rendering time is still reasonable.

and is is not required and bad practice.
there are reason to use like to get 3D working but in general it is utterly broken.
it does match anything and it doesn't even exist in newer windows version it may even forces flat 60 composition rate something it doesn't even have because it is not FSE it just fake.
and please don't state stuff like this: "required nowadays"
Amuat
29th November 2023, 18:33
Oh, I guess I must have confused FSE with the full screen mode in MPC-HC. So the latter should work fine when enable automatic full screen exclusive mode is not checked in madVR settings? And also not needing the disabling of optimisations in that case?
"and please don't state stuff like this: "required nowadays""
Don't get what you mean, I was merely responding to Sunspark's comment ("Fullscreen exclusive only works properly now if that box is checked, since version 1909 of W10 I think (forget the exact #) because Microsoft changed how compositing works."), not advocating using FSE itself as a requirement.
