This got my attention. Im using MPC-HC and Im scaling fonts to 125% via the 'Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Fonts' Change font size setting in Windows 7. Is Windows now first scaling my video, instead of madVR?
No, MPC-HC ignores Windows scaling settings (and in recent nightly builds also when using multiple monitors with different scaling values). Well, at least it does so on Windows 8 and 10, I never really tested on 7.
Other players may not, however.

madshi, is the black bars detection potentially useful in order to have xySubFilter subtitles rendering in the black bars area? For the future, I mean. :)

What happens if you seek into the middle of the movie right at the start? Does detection then work as fast as with the other movies you tested?
Same here: If you seek into a bright scene, does detection work then, after maybe max 40 seconds or so? In any case, a 1 minute sample from Lawrence would be great.
Detection in The Notebook works fine if I jump to a brighter part (instant).
Detection in LOA takes about 6sec if I jump to a brighter part.
I have just emailed you links to some 1mn clips of these.
Let me know if you need anything else.

MadVR (with MPC-HC) suddenly started refusing to go into exclusive mode for me yesterday. No changes I've made to my PC resulted in this, as far as I'm aware of. It just seemed to start happening by itself.
It doesn't matter if I set it to automatic exclusive mode or not, it simply won't go into exclusive mode. I can set enable exclusive mode and disable exclusive mode to hotkeys and press them while a video is running and nothing changes.
I have tried the following to fix this, to no avail: ran the reset MadVR settings to default .bat, ran the uninstall MadVR .bat, uninstalled MPC-HC and uninstalled MPC-HC settings, upgraded AMD video drivers, restarted computer, reinstalled MPC-HC, reinstalled MadVR. Still no luck. No fullscreen seek bar, no exclusive mode.
http://www.solidfiles.com/d/4959326397/ for a MadVR log of me starting a video, going into fullscreen with automatic exclusive mode on, then waiting a few seconds for it to switch to exclusive automatically, which it fails to.
Please help. I need my fullscreen seek bar and the performance benefits of exclusive fullscreen.

I don't know if this has something to do with my problem, and i can't check it, as my monitor is at service.
https://www.thurrott.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/display-settings.jpg
Mine was scaled to 150%
I have tried to lower the setting to 100% and roll back to driver version 13.12 from AMD and to madVR 0.88.16. Nothing helps :( on this clean windows 10 install

it looks like it has some small but general issue with DVDs.

or is this intentional behaviour for DVDs it's very common to have issue with the last pixel at each side this DVD is unusually clean there.

had problems too. Look into Catalyst and search for upcaling options.
Ich changed the way the wallpaper was upscaled. I set it to only center and no upscale and this did the trick.
windows desktop upscaling can prevent madvr to go into fullscreen exclusive mode.

I'm using super xbr since nnedi3 isn't working, but I don't think super xbr is doing anything either. Using a 1080 source on a 4k monitor I tried 150 sharpness and doubling, quadrupling, and octupling, which should destroy my 980ti, but render times and gpu usage are the same. The OSD says image > super xbr but it looks worse and grainy with it enabled. Using latest nvidia and W10 and nightlies of everything else.

Greetings,
I decided to tinker with image doubling settings and enabled NEDI but to my surprise render times and scale times remain the same.
I am doing DXVA luma/image scaling on Intel HD 3000, playing SD clip on FullHD monitor.
Any ideas why NEDI is having no performance impact?
Thanks.

@Arm3nian
Super XBR works here on Win10, Geforce 750Ti, drivers 353.62.
Super-XBR is cheap compared to NNEDI3. It doesn't destroy my Geforce 750Ti, so it should be a breeze for your GPU ;)
Probably easiest way to check if doubling is working would be to change your image upscaling algorithm to nearest neighbor, set your player to exactly 200% zoom and compare doubling on/off.
As for the sharpness, it doesn't work like with NNEDI's neurons - more gives different sharpness, not better quality. Also AFAIK, sharpness has little or no impact on performance with s-xbr.
Have you tried some "sane" sharpness (like 75) to check quality?
@kopija
Image doubling doesn't work with DXVA scaling (due to technological limitations).

I don't think it's a problem. This could have two different reasons: 1) Sometimes the black bars move a bit, madVR allows them to move up to 2 pixels, I think, without changing the detection. 2) Furthermore some video borders are very soft. madVR picks the line which has the highest contrast. That means there might be a low-contrast line outside of the detected area.

I'll reply to all your posts later (probably next weekend). For now I just wanted to share a test build for all those of you who are eager to play with new features:

Black bars detection didn’t work on some of the samples that I tried. They were RGB and YUV2 4:2:2 videos. The detection worked perfectly in other cases.

It should work, nobody else has had issues with it on Intel hardware, performance would be pretty poor though.
Does the OSD say image > Nedi? If it does then compare screenshots with it enabled and disabled to see if there's any visual difference.

I was wondering if anyone had figured out the root cause for why the queues don't seem to fill up with the 10-bit FSE output if the present queue is set to a high value.
Since reducing the value to 6 seemed to work with my GTX 570, and VRAM usage seemed to be approaching the limit of that card (1280MB) with those settings, I thought that it was probably a VRAM limitation.
But I have since upgraded to a 4GB GTX 960, and am experiencing the same issue.
I have not tested multiple formats yet (if I recall correctly, the "safe" value varied depending on what was being played) but for the DVD that I was trying to watch, anything above 12 frames presented in advance causes the queues to empty.
And now that I have a faster card, it doesn't seem related to GPU load or VRAM usage at all. GPU load is below 50% even with NNEDI32, and VRAM usage is under 1300MB.

If you're wanting to avoid W10 installing Nvidia's latest non NNEDI compatible drivers without affecting W10 update functionality then look at this tool from MS.
Unfortunately setting the option to avoid third party driver updates doesn't work too well so it's best to just ignore the particular update using this.

i can, i prefer exclusive but i can do overlay with my laptop on a FULL HD TV. My laptop is even slower than yours. The only thing i can think is some problem between your 2 gpus. I only have intel HD 4000 on i3-3110m 2.4GHz CPU, windows 8.1 x64 and 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD 2.5 5400 rpm

Can madVR detect judder? My Samsung TV gives me 2 choices:
1. 48Hz DISABLED mode, in which I can select 60Hz refresh rate or 23Hz or 24Hz refresh rate
2. 48Hz ENABLED mode, in which I can only select only 23Hz or 24Hz refresh rate
48Hz ENABLED mode flickers a bit, especially in white scenes, but it is supposedly better at removing judder than 48hz DISABLED mode @ 23/24Hz. However, some TV reviews say that Samsung's 48/72Hz ENABLED modes produce MORE judder than 48Hz DISABLED mode @ 23/24Hz. How can I find out if such is the case with my TV? I don't know how to look for judder and I'd rather use 48Hz DISABLED mode because it does not flicker...

madVR cannot detect anything going on in your TV. How would it do that? :)
If you cannot see any judder, then why do you worry though? Use whatever looks best to you.
madVR has a smoothness test pattern though to make it easier to see such things, install the test pattern source from the first post in this thread and run one of the SmoothMotion tests.

I would take a look at panning scenes in anime to judge judder. Anime works ideally because most of the pans are flat movements across the canvas. I ended up sticking with 60hz smooth motion for my Sony Bravia because 24hz produced way more judder than the former.

If you have a Motionflow option at 24hz turn that on and see what you think. Personally I find that for animated content generally frame interpolation looks better than blended frames aka Smooth Motion.

Can I send standard window messages (like WM_COMMAND) to MadVR through MPC_HC (through it's webinterface)?
I'd like to change couple of things remotely, e.g. the input level.
I tried to capture the hotkeys (CTRL+J, CRTL+SHIFT+ALT+I , etc) in WindowDetective , but mpc-hc doesn't have a clue about them :(
Any idea how to do this?
Thanks
I got the idea from nussman in the other topic that why I don't talk to madvr directly (after enabling the network interface).
I went through the net-protocol.txt, and the madTPG* source files, but since I'm not c++ programmer, I don't understand anything about it.
Can somebody give me a 'curl' bare minimum example with which I can toggle input source level (CRTL+SHIFT+ALT+I)? (IP is known, and I don't care about error handling for now), like this (question is the content-type, and the method, and the params :) ) :
curl -H 'content-type: application/json' -X POST http://192.168.1.50:37612/ -d '{"command":"toggleInputSourceLevel"}'
Thanks

What model Bravia do you have? You should be able to use any of the Motionflow settings with any type of input as long as you are using a Scene mode other than Graphics, Game or Auto (which will auto select Graphics with a PC input).
I use Auto/24p on mine which means it uses Graphics for the desktop and gaming to minimise input lag, but auto switches to Cinema Scene mode if it detects a 24fps input.
I'm starting to warm to the Standard motionflow option lately as it eradicates 24fps stutter on fast pans (not 3:2 pulldown judder as my set handles 24hz properly, but the effect of 24fps simply not been a high enough framerate smoothly display fast panning).
There's an element of 'soap opera effect' as it's usually referred to, which I despised for a long time. But the more I live with it then the more I'm beginning to actually like what it does and appreciate that a higher framerate (even interpolated) is almost always just simply superior for displaying video.

It's not better for video since both use low quality downscaling filters.
If you think video looks better with it, you might want to change your scaling or postprocessing preferences etc.

I sometimes watch content on my TV with the monitor in the other room on. So in this case the pc is running cloned dual monitor setup. In windows 10 I noticed that the screen is black for a few seconds when starting a video file in FSE – and also goes black for a second if switching to windowed mode. After this it doesn’t happen until I open another video file. Then it does it again. Also it seems that video playback is not smooth but choppy until I change from FSE to windowed and back to FSE again. These problems with switching from FSE to windowed mode dint happen in windows 8. It also doesn’t happen when only using one monitor.
I am unsure however if it is windows 10, driver issues, or something that can be fixed in madvr.
Does any1 have any solutions?

doesn't matter what you choice in madVR it's not used for downscaling because it is scaled down by the GPU driver with terrible quality.
but what do you think you will win by upscaling and downscaling again? thsi is made for games that can run in a higher resolution unlike videos.
