Well, i thought the all point of using mavdr was to have hardware decoding?
So 100% load on the cpu is kinda odd.

So your advice is to dig into every setting myself and find a proper setting that will work for me then? got it :)

I have no idea, i've never been into this before so i am clueless on a lot of topics, truth is i never had to calibrate a screen before or a video player for that matter, this is a new territory to explore and not an easy one i might say.
For me using videoplayer and codec was until that day download this and double-click .exe file lol

No, the point of madVR is better quality. Using the GPU to enable the better quality is required because CPUs aren't fast enough. Hybrid hardware decoding actually competes with madVR for GPU resources. I always use software decoding if I can.

Use the defaults and look at the settings, if you don't know what it is do not change it. The defaults were not picked randomly. If there is something you want to change, change it and see what the result is. Relying on someone who doesn't really understand what they have set, probably didn't do very good testing themselves, and was using a version that is very out of date now, is often worse than the defaults.

Calibration is a very large and separate topic, not for this thread.

Ahh, there we go..

I am pretty sure madshi is only saying that because smooth motion presents new frames more often a smaller hiccup will cause a presentation glitch. e.g. With 23.976 fps video and without smooth motion, a 3 frame present queue is enough for a 125 ms, but with smooth motion a 3 frame present queue is only enough for 62.6 ms.

This is different than needing larger queues for some other reason; you can rely on the OSD to pick queue sizes.

For those using Intel GPUs, be aware that I observed an interesting issue today that may or may not have an affect on MadVR. I've been streaming the Olympics over flash and I wondered why on my monitor Chrome had proper blacks and Firefox using the Shockwave player had washed out blacks exactly as it would be 16-235 vs 0-255.

Turns out it was a setting in the Intel driver properties in the video settings. For Input range it was set to to 'Full'. When I changed it to application settings, the video in the firefox tab immediately snapped to correct blacks. This Intel setting affects video overlays. MadVR has an overlay mode so you may wish to double check your levels to see if it remained the same when you set it to application settings. If it changed, then you need to re-do your calibration as it is probably best left on "application" for flash compatibility.

Hi, first thx for your ongoing work on madvr.

I have a "little" Feature request maybe its easy to do.

1. can you add keyboard shortcut for 3D swap l/r eye.

2. In madvr you have an detection for black bars aka 16:9(BB top under), 4:3, fullscreen...
is it possible to make an keyboard output for this? 16:9 -> Alt....+y; 4:3-> Alt...+x (just an Example)
so we could use it for automatic Ambilight switching.(with Ambibox for example)

Hello!

These days which is the recommended driver version for Nvidia cards? (meaning, which is the least buggy)
I mean the best for madVR usage of course.

If the newest version works for you, go for it. I had an OpenCL (NNEDI3) problem on the Win 10 Anniversary Edition, and had to roll back to 359.06. If you don't use NNEDI3 on Win 10 Build 1607, the latest should work fine.

I no longer have performance issues with the anniversary update. Turns out the update turned off my (substantial) overclock. Naturally, nothing ran smoothly until I upped the clocks.

Should i worry about madvr/mpc-hc taking 1 gb of ram for playing a 350mb video?

No. The amount of memory used depends on the video resolution and the queue sizes. There is no direct relation to the size of the (compressed) video file.

It is more likely due to the fact that the drivers that Windows itself installs often only contain the bare essentials, and not "add-ons" like OpenCL, PhysX, and QuickSync (in case of Intel).

The opencl.dll installed by the 368.81 version crashed 64-bit players. The older version I installed did not.

Moot point, however, because the 372.54 drivers released today work fine.

My cpu queue size is 96, GPU queue size is 22
videos are 720p h264

is that normal?

1.occasionally dropping out of fs exclusive
2.won't go fs exclusive with windows taskbar enabled on all monitors
3.can't view seekbar in fs exclusive mode, mouse relocates to other monitor upon mode change

Occasionally upon accidental mouse over of the lower portion of the video, enabling the seekbar the mode will change to windowed fs. It will switch back by switching back and forth the enable fs exclusive mode or closing and reopening mpc-hc.

As it says, seems that it simply won't do it.

Also as it says, the mouse will relocate to center of my main monitor upon mode change, therefor I can never view the seekbar.

Using (32bit apps, 64bit os) madvr 0.90.24, d3d11, mpc-hc 1.7.10, windows 10 anniversary update. Specs are i7-6700k, gtx 1070, asrock fatal1ty z170 gaming k4 mobo. Hope this info can help, let me know if you need any more info. Love the software, been using it for a while now through kcp. Shame that project is dead but I seem to know enough to set it all up myself now!

madshi... thanks for separating out the OpenCL kernel compilers for x86 and x64. That solved my problem. Can now run MPC-HC x64 without OpenCL compiler errors.

yes that's normal.

The amount of memory used is normal but Asmodian would say your queues are unbelievably high ^.^ Especially the CPU one. Seriously you could drop that back to 32 unless you have good reason for it being that high.

hmm i dropped the cpu queue size to 32 but it still takes the same amount of ram (1gb)

hmm i dropped the cpu queue size to 32 but it still takes the same amount of ram

you have to restart the player.

Yeah when going down you need to restart, going up will change the RAM right away. BTW you could try default queues of 16 for CPU and 8 for GPU. For most system's those queues are fine, they only need to be higher if you have frame drops or possibly glitches apparently.

seem like the default queue 16 for cpu, 8 for cpu does indeed reduce the ram consumption

are there any pros and cons of high queue size beside high ram consumption?

Just what you'd expect and as I said above, if you have content or a system that causes drops or glitches with the standard queues then the higher queues might help.
I believe there's more cons to having higher queues than the AFAIA single benefit, so only adjust them if you must.

So I enabled the "use Direct3D 11 for presentation" option, and while playing back a file, if I hit Ctrl+ J, it says "D3D11 exclusive (8bit)", however my GPU can only support DirectX 10.1 (dxdiag lists feature levels 10_1, 10_0, 9_3, 9_2, 9_1), so how is MadVR able to use Direct3D 11?

that's complicated but not surprising.
DX 10 cards can do a lot of the DX 11 stuff. so yeah.

I'm seeking advice about chroma upsalling, I'm with gtx 550 ti, and using Jinc AR, the goal is image upscalling 1920x816p -> 2560x1080p, mainly for blu-ray 1080p encodes, with jinc for chroma rendering time is around 17 ms, any other advices for chroma, for luma i'm using spline64 AR. Is jinc worth the performance hit or not?

MPC-HC+latest madvr and Save image option in MPC gives this. It worked fine with older version of madVR.

Odd issue, I have 23p,24p 25p, 30p, 50p, 59p, 60p rates, I'm trying to playback a video that is at 25.000, see attached, however madvr wants to play back at 50hz, which I do not want I want it to play back at 25, if I remove 50, 59, and 60, then it plays back at 30, so if I remove 30, 50, 59 and 60 only then does it playback at 25.

So why is madvr trying to playback at a different refresh rate than the video? Normally it picks the closest, which is 25 not 50p. If I only provide 25p, (25.00069Hz to be exact) then I get 1 repeated frame every 4:11 so basically dead on.

MadVR: 0.90.24
ZP: 12.5RC1

Thanks,
ERIC

Delay playback at start and/or seeking causes audio sync issues. Disabled it and all is fine.

That's it. That was what was causing me audio desync problems. Turned off delay queue fill at beginning, and windowed mode is usable again.

Audio desync is not a problem with Delay Playback as long as exclusive mode is used.

Glad it helped someone :)

The setting should either get removed or fixed at this point. It just doesn't work right. It needs to resync the video to the audio when it's delayed, but it doesn't.

What are you talking about, I've been using it forever, works fine for me.
There are many things that could influence audio sync and you provided 0 information.
Does it happen in Windowed and FSE?
har3inger doesn't have a problem as long as exclusive mode is used, I don't have a problem either way.
8 or 10bit?
What display modes are affected?
Do you use ReClock?
Is 'Auto A/V Sync correction' on or off in LAV Audio?
Are you using Smooth motion? (was the cause of some issues few times for me)
Maybe your present in advance queue is too high?
Are you bitstreaming?
Is the Audio Renderer in default or exclusive mode?
Even flush settings or video decoding method could be the difference.
And last but not least, x86 or 64, win7 or newer?

I'm on Windows 10 Anniversary.

My specs:
Intel Core i7 5960X 4GHz with ASUS X99-E WS
Corsair Vengence LPX 64GB DDR4 2133 XMP
Antec High Current Pro 1200 Watt PSU
eVGA GTX 1080 FTW
Creative SoundBlaster ZxR
Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 NVMe

The issue is only with fullscreen exclusive mode for me. Delay seems to work fine without it on. Seems the sync gets screwed when it switches to exclusive mode. I have to close the file and open it again without fullscreen exclusive one for it be to correct again.

All settings in LAV are default. It's not a huge issue. Fullscreen Exclusive seems to mess with sync, so I just don't use it. Using the seekbar with it causes the video to stutter too, so there's another reason not to use it ever.

My 1080 FTW doesn't work at all with NNEDI3, but NEDI works. I also get artifacting on the whole screen and sometimes my whole PC goes black screen in exclusive fullscreen. Other algorithms work fine in non-exclusive fullscreen mode, however.

Hi Guys,
I own an HTPC with Win7 64bit and a GTX970
This bug happens only If I send a 2160p signal with 12bpc color depth...

http://audioquality.it/cloud/madvr.jpg

Like you can see secondaries color are not good.
If I set 8bpc in the nvidia control panel secondaries returns good.

This not happen if I set the graphic card to out 1080p signal. With 1080p signal 8bpc and 12bpc are equally good.

I discovered this bug with the nvidia drivers 359.06. Now I've updated the drivers to latest 372.54 but the problem remains.

My pj is a Jvc DLA-X5000 and I use latest madvr.

Does anybody already know about this bug?

Not only that, but run Display Driver Uninstaller (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) (DDU) in Safe Mode after normal uninstall of nVidia drivers, then reboot and install the latest 372.54 version.

On my GTX 1060, I can use NNEDI3 for doubling at 64 neurons with various image enhancements at 720p.

For 1080p, I can double at 32 neurons but adding any enhancements causes frame drops. GPU usage is between 95% and 98%.

Your GTX 1080 should be able to do much better.

I run everything at 60Hz and smooth motion with my JVC projector as I use playlists of mixed content 25,50,60,24, this way I have no slow syncing issues and everything plays instantly.

The only thing Ive never been sure of is how to set up the de-interlacing page correctly since I lock everything onto 60Hz. Player JRiver.....

Currently I have de-interlacing set to auto detect (top function ticked)
And Force Film mode.

Is this ok or correct for playing everything on 60Hz Smooth Motion?

Thanks in advance...

Should be fine. Do you watch any interlaced content? This should be rare in this day in age. Maybe a network TV show?

Well something strange happened today....
I turned everything off on that de-interlacing page and everything runs very smooth, actually VERY Smooth without any gitter....

Plus the section marked dropping frames or adding frames - within a minute or two gets to numbers I've never seen, e.g. NO dropped frames and No repeated frames, that's never happened before while running everything on 60Hz.

Usually I see repeating or deleting frames happening all the time. Now it starts off as say 1 dropped frame every 1.5 hrs, within seconds 2.5hrs, after running a BD for say 2mins its up to 1 dropped frame every 9.10hrs, then say running for 5 mins its up to 1 dropped frame every 3 days, then onto no dropped or repeated frames... This has to be a really good thing surely?

I have never ever seen numbers like this on any material with de-interlacing and film mode ticked. Its usually repating frames every few secs all the time, this might be since I run on 60Hz.

I get no dropped frames or presentation glitches.

Rendering is round 15/16.50ms average on Nnedi3 32 with video card 1080
