It's more about doing research about all the 3rd party shaders, possible combos, testing... and then setting up profiles, figuring out how to toggle by editing the input sheet, etc.
I got it running ok after a day or two... but it took me a month of tweaks to get it exactly the way I wanted it.
Can you share it on the mpv.net thread?
I'm interested in how to set up monitor profiles and how to create/use 3dlut.
Thanks

Guys... just take the time to learn MPV and the options, shaders, etc. I've got it looking just as good, and even slightly better, than madvr. It was about a month of learning curve (I didn't have a lot of time to spend on it). Well worth it though. Now I don't have to worry about updates that may or may not happen.
But can you achieve the same tone mapping results ? That's the #1 reason I have to stick with MadVR (beta builds from AVSForum)

In theory, you can with Win 10 Api (since 1804). The only question for me is the multimonitor profiles, that madvr supports (and 3dlut).

Is this thread appropriate for technical questions/problems? If so, does anyone know what would be causing a colour change when fullscreening 8bit sdr content on a 10bit display (samsung g7) with D3D11? When I set MadVR to auto, it doesn't autodetect when it's in 10/HDR. So even in Windows HDR mode, HDR does not passthrough to the display.
If I set native bit depth to 10 myself, HDR content is fine and great, and so is 8bit content outside of Windows' HDR mode, except when I fullscreen it. The colour gets brighter and duller, and it doesn't revert even when the file is closed. It washes out the whole monitor. I have to turn HDR on and then off again for the normal colour vibrancy to return. So far as I can figure only D3D11 does this, and only when native bit depth is set to 10 bit (but when HDR mode is not turned on). I have to manually change MadVR from 10 to 8 or auto when I want to watch SDR content. This also only happens on my new G7 and this does not happen on my X900F.

For the standard 23Hz mode over HDMI I see 23.97586 Hz with very good frame drop/repeat numbers. Looks pretty good.
For the same mode over DP (with the CAC-1085 converting to HDMI) I see 23.97995 Hz. Interesting.
2080 Ti, 451.67, Win10 2004
Is this what are you were looking for?
huhn
8th August 2020, 12:37
yes madshi got a bug report through with this and they fixed it.
the refreshrate is supposed to be closer now with 1080p23 (for a while now) and now with 2160 23 now too with this driver or up coming ones.
looks like they have to fix this with every signle refreshrate and connector type...
just took them like a decade and it doesn't fix the core issue anyway.
edit: i just test my 1060 i have no frame repeat/drop expected ever with analog audio output so very lucky.
can a couple you guys test digital hdmi/DP over the same card that the only space where nvidia has any way to affect the audio clock?
i tested 451.77 studio.
edit2: can you plz check 119? if you have the time for 1440p and 2160p DP/HDMI if available.
i will try to check 1080p119 my TV doesn't support 1440 for some reason.
edit3: 1080p119 is working too.

That's annoying. Great that they fixed it. But given the problems with HDR and this new branch of drivers, this sucks.

My previous report was actually for 2160p23, I didn't think to try other resolutions.
HDMI
2160p23: 23.97586
1080p23: 23.97751
1080p119: 119.87947
For 1440p I only have a 120 Hz option, nothing else. Not even 60Hz. It runs at 120.000Hz. Having trouble getting DP to display anything right now.
Edit:
Display Port
2160p23: 23.97592
1080p23: 23.97752
1080p119: 119.87953
After some more fiddling and a reboot I am getting 23.97592 Hz from 2160p23 out of the Display Port through the CAC-1085. I don't have a 119 mode to test when using this adapter, only 100 and 120 Hz for above 60. I also saw the ~23.980 Hz from HDMI for a bit, fixed by a reboot, so maybe it can get stuck in the slightly different mode? It is interesting because the composition rate also changes between 23.976 and 23.980 Hz. I haven't been able to get it to do it again though so I am not sure why it changes.
Very cool to have Nvidia finally fix this (at least mostly)... now we just need madVR to update how it uses the HDR API. :)

can someone with a native DP screen test 23p 119p?
my screens doesn't have these modes and it should be generally very rare.

Yes, until they also solve HDR passthrough and the 12bits issues in that branch, I'd rather use an older driver and CRU, as least there is no functionality loss with that combo.

Yea, I want very badly to like this new branch, as there are some good benefits to it, but, the HDR issue is a real problem. Even if you turn HDR on in Windows before playing a movie, the metadata does not seem to be transmitted. At least, the HD Fury doesn't see it anyway. So while it may look like it's in HDR, I've no idea what's actually being sent.

Asmodian
9th August 2020, 02:41
I agree. I think a paid madVR would make good money but maybe I am overestimating the number of people who would be happy to send $20 or $50 his way for nothing more than current functionality with regular workarounds for diver issues/changes.
Software is great business too, no marginal costs or supply chain disruptions, unlike with hardware projects. Hint Hint. ;)
SamuriHL
9th August 2020, 04:18
If there's going to be a paid version, and the decision is FAR from being made as it's not madshi's decision alone now that he has business partners, then what *I* would like to see is some tensor core loving with the new algorithms. What I propose is this....we pay whatever the price madshi and crew determine is a good going rate for an updated madvr experience, and then to keep the cost reasonable, he can use the feedback we give for the new algorithms and apply it to the Envy. That seems fair to me. :)

Since Manni works with/for the madVR team now, perhaps he can keep us updated on that front ;)

The current state of some things can only be described as depressing. I get that Envy is the shiny new toy and that it's driving the income. I totally understand that. But it needs to have a symbiotic relationship with its big brother. I know it'll get back to that eventually once Envy is closer to launch. It's hard to be patient right now because build 113 has issues that could use a firm hand to fix. Adding this nVidia BS on top of it makes the entire situation really suck. Please understand, this isn't me whining or complaining. Far from it. Just me being impatient for some madvr attention. Envy isn't going to improve easily without input from the madvr community. People who shell out 12 grand for a box are not going to be too keen on beta testing new algorithms. That's where we come in.

Hate to be a pessimist here, but I don't believe that madVR will benefit all that much from Envy development. Reading between the lines of what Mathias has been saying, I think it's clear that the focus will be on differentiating Envy enough to justify that price tag. While I can't really see that happening without getting regular madVR users involved in testing, it has been stated that new algorithms and/or features could very well be Envy exclusive. So, what SamuriHL and others, myself included, are wishing for, might not really happen the way we hope it will. But who knows...

I don't think the Envy can ever provide features to warrant that price tag for any reasonably normal users that don't run their own private cinema. Nevermind that its development has been so slow that by the time its out its likely already out of date on the hardware side. No HDMI 2.1? Definitely no sale. Paid upgrade to HDMI 2.1 later? Yeah, no thanks. Not that I would ever buy such a device for that price, its just nonsense. There are diminishing returns to image improvements, and that price would never warrant it for me.

It seems they went after the "1%", that's a huge change compared to the user base of madvr. And the "1%" won't test anything, rightfully, especially for this price tag, they will just moan, again rightfully. But it won't affect us who don't belong to the "1%"... :)

if you find a way to to make such a device without such price tags i'm interested because i couldn't. so either he doesn't do it or this is the result.
there is just one thing madVR can't do the envy can it is been HDCP complain and can be used for pretty much any source.
the hardware cost around 2k by my guessing this alone is just a death sentence for a huge market adaptation.
so that leaves the risky high margin low quantity market.
i already had a talk about HDMI 2.1 with him. he can not even update to it fully support it without replacing the mainboard he only has 3.6 GB/s.
but he doesn't see any need for full bandwidth he doesn't want RGB as an input.
what so ever i stay with the HTPC party here much more fun.i can't afford this device anyway and just like nev i'm not willing to pay such a price for such a device.
@chros
i hope he doesn't get to many yes man around him but people that very critical judge his algorithm to make them better.

I'm trying to remain optimistic about madvr. Madshi has stated that if it were solely up to him madvr development would continue side by side with the envy. That being said he has business partners now. And they may see a free product like madvr as potentially eating into envy sales. I think that mentality is wrong, of course, but I could see how a business person may come to that conclusion. I'm quite sure I won't see my wish of having tensor core algorithms added. Probably not even to a paid version. But I'm of the opinion of we never make our interest known it's less likely than if we do. If they see there's a market for a paid version of madvr with at least some of the new toys in it, with a community willing to help improve those algorithms, then there's a small chance. I do get the reality behind how small that chance is but I'm not going down without expressing the desire.
On that note I'm looking forward to grabbing a 3080ti next month and cranking up some scaling options. I did some more tweaking of my 2070 yesterday and I can see what it could look like scaling 720 to 4k (lol) but I couldn't get it stable without dropping frames so I ended up compromising. I realize envy is targeted at people who want to play with all their inputs, but I can already free my tivo content for upscale goodness. That's 2/3rds of my content. Even if I had the means I wouldn't pay 12 grand for the streaming media.

Boys, stop cryng!!!
For adventurous & skilled people !!!
Follow this (crazy ??) japanise guy here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/oryaaaaa/playlists
The japanise guy has released some amazing programs born for computer_Audio but really useful for HTPC too.
A) Minority clean;
B) Rewrite data;
Software improves audio and video of your HTPC in an unbelievable mode, obviously, isn't a video player and it is MADVR fully compatible.
You 'll can Download @:
http://www.mics.ne.jp/~coolverse/package_20200808_Bughead_x64.zip
http://www.mics.ne.jp/~coolverse/MinorityClean/
Trust me, what is valid for Hi end Audio is true for Video too.
The package contains other programs, useful only for computer_audiophile people.
Isn't easy, written in japanise, but if you read carefully the poor english istructions, you'll learn to use it and you'll forget Envy.
Some more info (always related to audio use) here:

A) Minority clean;
B) Rewrite data;
Does it only work with Intel CPUs? "Intel 64bit MMX SSE2 required"
Edit: after translating Minority clean: "An ultra-low-load "CPU purifier" utility based on the research of "All core any cures" and "High Grade CPU Any Cures." It supports not only Intel Core series but also AMD Ryzen series. The low jitter effect of the PC is very powerful and ideal for high-end audio solutions. It can provide both high image and sound quality, which is ideal for video viewing and editing applications.
...
It is a utility that does not rely on a good or bad power supply environment, but produces the same results as when using a high-quality power supply. It is effective for cases where problems occur under poor power supply conditions.
The load ratio is 0.00%. The initialization process is repeated every 4 seconds."
Sounds like BS to me ...

I had a thought it might refer to jitter, but after running EVR Custom with graphs I'm not seeing any difference there either.
Tried doing a blind test for the sound - same.
I can only conclude that I'm not sophisticated enough for this new level of technology.

Only a matter of time.. features will flow down when profit starts to dip. One can only hope if some goodies are for hardware only that there are good options better than the software for those that aren't super well off, but yes.. voices are important and if we don't like what we see we should definitely make ourselves heard. In saying that what we have so far for free is very good indeed.

For HTPCs, if Madshi at some point decides to sell a madVR license for a couple hundred bucks I wouldn't protest that at all, especially if it means we'd then receive periodic updates. This would be a separate revenue stream for madVR, especially if Madshi (or someone else with the know-how) released a KODI 18.x or newer build compatible with madVR for those of us willing to rip our own physical media and put up with all the headaches that can come with HTPCs (I'm now at 40TB that store all my Blurays and 4K films, all purchased, many from the second hand market to keep costs as low as possible). The "madVR KODI" would be free, as it is open source, but the madVR portion would not be.
As enticing as Envy is, it is a niche hardware product that is well out of reach for 99% of the folks here. For the 99% of us who rely on our HTPC, I'm sure that a significant number would likewise be willing to purchase an HTPC madVR license.

Disney seems to disagree with us about the future usefulness of madvr. sigh. They just announced they're no longer releasing live action movies from Disney or Fox to physical 4K media. I guess they want to push their Disney+ service even harder. This is likely the start of a very nasty trend for those of us who prefer to rip our physical media to a NAS to run it through madvr. The Envy is designed around this streaming future.

Hello,
Hoping maybe someone can help, I've been doing 3d mvc for years now with madvr and lav filters on my desktop and lately just using kodi dsplayer with madvr. I bought two laptops to test and one of them I installed kodi dsplayer and madvr and boom 3d is playing like it should. The other laptop no matter what I do it doesn't work.
Both windows 10. 3d display at 1920 is set on both. The working one is a 1920 display laptop. The one that doesn't work has a 4k display on the laptop, don't know if that makes a difference. They are both using intel UHD graphics 620 I believe.
Asus flipbook 14 works
Dell 7391 does not.
Both latest intel I7 10th gen processors.
Any ideas?

Just curious, is madVR finished/put on hold or something?
We're not sure, but as of now it's just on hold. Madshi has spent the last year or so working on a hardware device called Envy. It can be attached to any TV or projector (no computer or graphics card needed) and will provide video rendering even better than madVR from any input source, including streaming. All this comes at a cost, however; apparently $10K or higher.
Madshi has started a company to manufacture and sell the Envy. His business partners apparently object to having madVR continue, feeling it will cut into the market for Envy. You can learn more about Envy at the company's website, https://www.madvrlabs.llc/.
We're all waiting to find out what happens to madVR.
