thats new! can you tell me how ? i searched a lot on internet but only find people afirmig that nots capable...
on my old laptop on nvidia cp had the option to 8 or 12 bit... but on my nw laptop on intel cp don´t have nothing...
1. Intel doesn't provide a setting on their UI. The HDMI standard called DeepColor. There's a registry entry called "DeepColorHDMIDisable" which should be 0 and that means this feature is enabled by default (note that every display on your system has its own separate settings).
2. Intel uses Limited range output by default. You can use madLevelsTweaker utility (in madv folder) to easily set to Full range (via "EnableRGBFullRange" registry entry), which is suggested if your display device is capable to process this.
Here also you can see the full registry path for your current display.
I don't know whether this affects 10 bit output, probably it depends on your hardware/software chain. (E.g. I got crushed black with Limited range on my TV, now all good with Full range.)
3. There's another setting on the UI called "IT content" (it can modify chrome subsampling on your display device). Unfortunately it stopped working for me a half a year ago (I don't know what changed in my chain, it worked 1 year ago).

Turn off NNEDI3 for image doubling and use superxbr 100 or superxbr antibloat 25. I'm pretty sure your video card is maxed out and cannot handle doubling with NNEDI3.

Sorry it took me a while to do more tests regarding the crash on first play, but I've been very busy with work.
I finally had a chance to spend a few hours trying to debug this, and here are the results.
My current config:
Win 8.1 Pro x64 with MCE
ADM 7870 With Crimson 16.4.1 (same issue with all Crimson drivers)
Latest MPC-BE x64 nightly, MadVR and LAV x64 beta
Problem: player crashes at launch (MPB-BE has stopped working) on first playback after a reboot. Playing the same file right after the initial crash (or any other file) works fine.
Once the first crash has occurred, playing the same file (or any other file) with a different player works fine.
There is no crash if EVR or EVR-CP is selected instead of MadVR.
I've tried the following:
Revert to Catalyst 14.12 (last stable catalyst for my GPU): same issue (rules out Crimson)
MPC-HC x64 instead or MPC-BE: same issue (rules out MPC-BE)
MPC-BE x86 instead of MPC-BE x64: same issue (rules out x64)
Using FSE mode: same issue (rules out non FSE mode)
Disabling the use D3D11 path: same issue (rules out D3D11 path)
Playing with the general settings in the rendering options (delay playback, disable desktop composition, use a separate device for presentation): same issue
Trying to launch MPC-BE and MPC-HC directly, without using MyMovies to select the film: same issue (rules out MyMovies)
I'm running out of idea, but it looks like this clearly establishes that the issue lies with MadVR as it's not the GPU driver, nor the player, nor MyMovies.
I'm going to try to go back to older MadVR versions, as this is not a problem I used to have, but I had already tried to go back as far as 0.89.x and the problem was still there, so not sure how much further I should go. What is the oldest version of MadVR that will still work with the current option/registry and won't mess up my configuration?
In case it matters, I was always trying to play the same film, a bluray at 23p (BDMV folder), but I have the same issue with any movie (well, at least BD folder) so it's not movie specific.

The benefit of anti-bloating may be limited to very large downscaling factors, I'm not sure, and of course whether you want to use it or not is fully your choice. For this image comparison I've disabled the anti-ringing filter for the conventional downscaling algorithms, to make their results appear as sharp as possible (anti-ringing makes the images look slightly softer).
Anyway, here goes:

a general thing, imho it would make most sense to put most emphasis (--> what gets implemented or set as default) on the effects scaling has with the most common resolutions used for scaling (which would be imho 720p --> 1080p upscaling, maybe still DVD --> 1080p upscaling and 4k --> 1080p downscaling in the future). so even if lets say SSIM anti bloating might work very well when used to downscaling from 4k to 960x540, determining whether it gets implemented or set as default should still be decided based on the results of the most common scaling resolutions.

Which kernel are you using for those SSIM shots? Bicubic or jinc? Also, thanks for the comparisons.
I gotta agree with you. At a glance, AB makes things closer to what they should look like, especially for the windmill bricks. Also, at least compared to bicubic 150, even with AB, SSIM is sharper. However, for the food pic, it's little harder to say that SSIM without AB is absolutely ruining the image. If I pixel peep, the table cloth pattern tends to jump too far forward, but at a distance, no AB looks better.
I think it depends a lot on view distance to decide if SSIM AB is better. Without AB, you definitely spoof a higher-res image with sharper/higher frequency features, and the inaccuracy isn't as bad or apparent at longer distances. This sharpening effect is probably better/more accurate than anything you could accomplish with adaptivesharpen or the likes. I'd say keep AB as an option for the user to decide on for SSIM (maybe labeled as "accurate" vs "sharp")

I agree that anti-bloating is effective, but I'm not sure if removing the sharper SSIM is good or bad. Bicubic150 is not even close to as sharp. SSIM without AB might be preferable to users who want a really sharp image. Still, the less unnecessary options, the better. Most users will tick every checkbox available thinking it makes things look better.

Its reg entry for It Content is "MP_ITContent_3060300" but it doesn't do anything for me (but it did in the past).
According to this post it's advised to enable it: "This turns off any processing within the Intel display driver."

Means you should probably reinstall your drivers, try a recent system restore point first in case it's something else.

I agree, SSIM 100% is better with Anti-Bloating enabled but is it better than just using SSIM 50% or 25%?

The defaults are BT.709 and pure power curve 2.2. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for posting this comparison. Well, you did make me change my mind. After seeing these screenshots comparison, I did some more testing and found that anti-bloating at 25% strength actually helps when used with SSIM at a higher strength like 75% or 100%.

Blu-Ray.com officially posted 4K screenshots in ST.2084 & REC.709, probably captured with HDFury Integral because only the Integral can split ST.2084.

Bottom 5 photos are in ST.2084 and 709, top ones are just photoshoped from the bottom ones to look like SDR and the highlights are clipped.
I simple converted the 709 to 2020, made a video from the 5 pictures using VirtualDub, and encoded with x265 with HDR metadata (2160p, 1000nit peak, P3 inside 2020).
To test the accuracy of this I captured several screenshots from the Life of Pi demo without madVR (metadata disabled), and re-encoded with the typical settings suggested by HEVC for HDR.
The resulting picture is 99% the same as the original Life of Pi HDR demo.
The important commands from HEVC command lines:

just posting an example of the benefit in dynamic range you get with HDR material on a Pioneer KRP-500M
the new Sony HDR demo looks amazing

and madvr is doing a great job with calculating the tvs max brightness.
this 500M covers 89% of DCI-P3 and colors are so rich compared to the flat looking SD version with rec709 colors.
more details can be seen on the background in the SD version but thats just how it looks.
also note that these are HDR photos that captures the whole dynamic range without clipping shadow details or highlights.
its probably the first time you see a "correct" comparision from photos with HDR
normal photos just crush blacks and highlights so they are misleading.
looking forward to more HDR material here :)

Yes, I forgot this only applies to HDR content. Otherwise, madVR doesn't do any gamut mapping that I know of.

What peak brightness are you using? The higher the value, the darker the image. It looks like your image is a little too dark. I am judging this on a phone, mind you, but it looks like there is room for improvement.

It looks to me that 2nd picture lost details in the shadows (look below the red tent), and also lost details in highlights (look at the orange blinker of the truck). This is the complete opposite of what high dynamic range should do (at least corresponding to the term as it is used in photography).

You can't do this comparison with photographs.
The higher the image's dynamic range gets, the more likely it is for a camera to clip the shadow/highlight details, because it is exceeding the dynamic range that the camera can capture.
That's why photographs comparing HDR and SDR displays side-by-side either make the HDR display look absolutely awful with completely blown-out highlights (image exposed for the SDR display) or you end up with a very dim looking SDR display. (exposed for the HDR display)

This is the complete opposite of what high dynamic range should do (at least corresponding to the term as it is used in photography).HDR to SDR conversion doesn't seem to be great - not that Madshi is doing anything wrong here.
Using anything less than 400 nits as the display brightness in madVR results in far too much highlight clipping - whether that's "technically correct" or not.
The HDR spec calls for >600 nit displays, so trying to display HDR content accurately at much lower brightness levels on an SDR display is never going to look good.
Either you end up with a dim image by trying to preserve the highlights, or you end up with clipping.
Setting madVR to 400 nits doesn't look that bad, but unless your display is capable of actually reaching 400 nits SDR (few are) it's still not going to look correct.
HDR will not look anything close to correct on a plasma TV because they're significantly dimmer than it requires.
What might look good is content that fits in the ~100 nits of brightness range that it has, but anything which exceeds ~100 nits of brightness is going to be clipped.
Since HDR allows for full-screen images of up to 400 nits, and highlights beyond that, you're going to see a lot of clipping on a plasma TV. That 220cd/m2 number is completely inaccurate for the Kuro - maybe it's hitting that for highlights, definitely not full-screen white.

It looks to me that 2nd picture lost details in the shadows (look below the red tent), and also lost details in highlights (look at the orange blinker of the truck). This is the complete opposite of what high dynamic range should do (at least corresponding to the term as it is used in photography).
The first image just looks washed out though. It may cause more details to be visible, but is that really what one should be seeing? If a blinker is on, can you really see its structure, or is the light just masking that in real life?

I'm not sure if this had been reported already, but I'm having strange issues with SSIM downscaling combined with various other settings. It interacts badly with NNEDI3 image doubling and SuperRes. Here are some combinations:

Is 2x Supersampling in Image Doubling better than the standard Doubling? I can't see any difference, I got a 2160P TV And I use doubling to upscale movies to UHD.

Supersampling would be 2160p -> 4320p -> 2160p. If the source is 1080p, then you are image doubling (1080p -> 2160p).

Rendering Intent is what the conversion does with out-of-gamut colors.
For example watching 2020/P3 video on rec709 monitor.

...I get the Subs in the Display plane...
the Subs are stored in the mkv as DVD-sub.
There seems not to be an Option (in MPC-BE, madVR or xysubfilter) to adjust the depth of the Subs...
I would be ok with an user-adjusted Option...I'm not talking about the "original Settings in the mpls"...
...no answer means there is no answer, or it is so common knowledge that it is not worth answering... (in this case it might be the same…).
So, I would like to pinpoint this : there is no such option at the time being, right?
I’m surprised, since there is a lot of magic going on, like up- or down-scaling, on the fly audio delaying, positioning of subs horizontally/vertically…. So, an option to change on the fly (via keyboard keys) the position of subtitles seemed to me somehow “expectable”.
Is there a chance for such a feature?
Another feature request (maybe it is already there and I just could not find it) :
It would be good to have a keyboard command to toggle between 3D and 2D representation of a movie…
scenario : you have a 3D-MVC-MKV you would like to watch with friends, but do not have enough goggles => you watch it in 2D.
At the time being it seems very complicated to change a setup which was set for 3D, to ignore 3D and play it 2D…

lanczos is used or at least shown in the OSD when the image is only scaled in X or Y direction.
jinc is correctly used with a 1440x1080p 16/9 AR source displayed at 1920x1080p.
there is an additional "image y = jinc" line.
you have set your player to stretch. set it to "touch window from the inside" (name can depend on the player) if you don't want that.

When I watch a 24.000 fps movie with "use Direct3D 11 for presentation" enabled render queue and present queue are not full. Present time is unusually high too
With "use Direct3D 11 for presentation" disabled stats is ok.
Can I set a profile auto select rules for 24 fps movies?

Shortly after reading your post, I found a good analyzer called MediaInfo LINK (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo) that shows me all the HDR metadata I need.

When supersampling, doubling 1080p and downscaling back to 1080p with 1d, using super-xbr to double, and using superres 3 and crispen edges to enhance, i get around 35ms render times. Downscaling with 2d it shoots up into the 80s. That can't be normal. Like i said, all other doubling scenarios 2d only adds around 2-3ms to what 1d costs, and same goes for downscaling 4k native to 1080p, no trouble at all using 2d, again only adds 2-3ms to what 1d costs.
I can confirm that SSIM 2D has an abnormal performance hit when doubling 1080p.

I have a question regarding the SMPTE 170M primaries management in Madvr.
I have many japanese DVD and from my understanding, japan video industry still used SMPTE 170M primaries for DVD authoring instead of the more recent SMPTE C. If I'm not wrong, Madvr is able to manage SMPTE 170M Primaries if the filename is flagged so.
My issue is that, as I used my DVD and not rip (I have too many), I can't used the flag and so Madvr used SMPTE C primaries automatically. And using the primaries toggle option, SMPTE 170M is not listed as it should be very rare. Is a way to use SMPTE 170M primaries with my dvd without to rip them all (yes, I'm a very old fashioned man, I don't even rip my blu-ray)?
