Yeah, and I would be lost without it. I'm not sure if the CL decoder is MT though.

I don't know. At the moment I'm completely dead in the water. I can't get MPC-HC to work on my main HTPC at *ALL* right now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything. I get the same error. I've tried defaults, deleting the settings, etc. So, suffice it to say I'm screwed right now as I have an HTPC that doesn't play video.

EDIT: It's not just MPC-HC. My main HTPC no longer plays ANY video in ANY program. This seems...really really bad. TMT5 won't even play a disc or file.

W7 System Restore....

SamuriHL
7th April 2011, 01:23
Not how I go about these things. W7 "upgrade" install. :) Over the top of the existing install. Don't ask. I've done it on numerous systems and as long as you know exactly what you're doing you won't even lose anything. God help that machine if it doesn't fix the issue. PDVD gave me an "internal error". Ok, fine, so, I click on "detailed info". It tells me it's an undefined error code. Um, what?? :) Yea, that's when I said screw it and time to do a clean install up on top of it. 99 times out of a 100 it'll fix it. We'll find out soon. I'm annoyed, though.

fresh install windows.

Well, upgrade install. Close enough. :) It's running now. I appreciate the feedback. I've never had this happen to one of my machines. I usually run them quite clean so no idea what got corrupted but it wasn't fixed by anything I tried. Reinstalled DX, reinstalled video driver, etc, etc.

Hey everyone, I've been using madVR for around a year and a half now and I love it, however I'm having a problem with playing 60 fps videos and frames dropping. Even though CPU usage never goes over 8% or 9% and GPU usage stays at ~15%, I'm getting 1 frame drop every second or two. I skimmed through the recent pages and noticed some other people were getting dropped frames also, is it just because it can't send/receive the frames fast enough? Here's my CPU/GPU/RAM and a screenshot playing a 720p video at 60 fps. I had it in fullscreen exclusive mode from the beginning, paused it and went to windowed mode then took a screenshot.

Playback is perfect with anything lower than 45 fps or so but above that it has trouble keeping up. I didn't really notice it too much before because most of my files are 24p or 30p, however I recently started using an avisynth script to convert 24->60 fps so I'm wondering if this is just something on my end or if it happens with others.

I didn't say it BEAT a fresh install. :) However, I do NOT have the time right now to install everything that's on that box. Just my video player/editing/capturing alone is a day's worth of installation and configuration to get it back to where it was at. So, we'll do the upgrade install first and see how that goes. If it still fails, then yes, I'll have to cry and do a fresh install. I just want it working again so I can get back to watching video. :)

You're not always running the monitoring tools, right? Some of them (CCC for instance) will drop frames when the tool polls for data from the card. If you're always monitoring, try closing all the tools and other programs opened.

* LAN support is disabled by default now, can be enabled through tray icon menu
Thanks for that. But madVR still tries to get network access. It would be better if such attempts get disabled too when LAN support is off.

Secondly have u tried playing it with Reclock disabled?

Wrong. I've reinstall my Windows 7 (some time ago) before to understand that it was my HDD which causes important lags. :'(

My upgrade install worked. Back in business and video is looking awesome. Madvr really is the best renderer out there.

I want to confirm if this renderer is still unstable, I want to know because Im struggling to get it working, if I install a splitter, or AC3filter, then it just silently stops working. Reinstalling doesn't fix it.

It works fine. It has done for ages. Madshi is just tweaking and working towards the final version with refresh rate change... :p

I was using HAM last night when testing my machine after the upgrade install. Worked perfectly for me on all sources I tried it on. A 720p h.264 upscaled to 1080p, a VC-1 1080p, and a h.264 1080p...All MKV's. Worked great.

Strange? Wonder why i'm getting dropped frames? CPU and GPU loading is low and HAM works fine with EVR CP? I think I need to have a play?

Sam, didn't you say your running @ 60HZ?

Yes, that's correct. So it's very likely the difference.

According to what I've just read, it seems to support the 4xxx cards, as well.

Sry for my noob question, but what is the big deal about cyberlink HAM? I understand that the decoder should support ATI Stream feature, but is it better than core-avc, in terms of speed and quality, or is it something completely different?

CoreAVC doesn't support STREAM. This is the only decoder we've found that does. Otherwise you use software decoding which takes far more CPU power than is otherwise needed. In my case, my AMD machine has sufficient CPU power, but, my nVidia machine does so I use CUDA decoding (thank you Nev!) to lower the CPU utilization. Since that machine has not even remotely enough power for decoding, it's ideal. STREAM can do the same for AMD users.

Sorry, I'm using madVR last build with MPC-HC on my WIN 7 x64 with replaced DVD navigator dll. So DVD's play OK, but there's no seek-bar. If I play single .VOB part it's ok and seekbar appears in fullscreen. But playing from DVD menu fails to show it. What could it be? I use Cyberlink MPEG2 decoder in SW mode.

Hopefully Madshi may come up with a fix in a later release!
It's an idea! Guys, lets ask madshi to make a ... videodriver! (for ATI, NVIDIA users are happy enough)
Just imagine, madVD(river) will be able to pass through bit exact video stream from madVR! I mean it. This is the only way for ultimate video playback.

It's about time madshi makes big bucks w/ his killer *FREE* software. I can't believe how smooth and sharp mVR looks in 48/96Hz(w/ Reclock)...this is surreal on a perfectly calibrated display

It's like dating a super hottie, and waking up everyday thinking "O-M-G, she's a cutie"

I'll dare saying that before mVR showed up, I had more or less given up on my HTPC...HR = jitter feast and blurry, EVR = too much EE to my eyes, and not stable in MPC. mVR trumps them all

Maybe he can figure out why it is dropping frames.

You're not always running the monitoring tools, right? Some of them (CCC for instance) will drop frames when the tool polls for data from the card. If you're always monitoring, try closing all the tools and other programs opened.

Just tried with nothing running except for the video and still got dropped frames.

Are u experiencing the same problem with the standard EVR? Secondly have u tried playing it with Reclock disabled?

I thought Reclock could be causing frame drops at first, thinking it could be delaying the frames to sync the refresh rate or something however I still get dropped frames with it disabled :(. I'm not sure what I'm looking for on the EVR OSD, the buffer stays at 4 so I'm assuming that's the frame buffer. Here are two screenshots while using EVR: one with just one instance running and another with a couple.

http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/5407484/img/MPC-HC/EVR-multi.jpg

Still not sure what could be causing dropped frames. I noticed people are having problems with ATI/AMD cards and HAM, but I'm not using that so I have no idea what could be causing them.

What do your ReClock settings look like? Also, what renderer options in MPC-HC are enabled?
(try:
View-> Renderer-> Reset-> Optimal - This will disable Aero and hopefully that will make a difference)

However I don't see why they matter, even with Reclock disabled I get frame drops. I reset the renderer to optimal and changed the theme to windows classic, still dropped frames. madVR settings are at default. Is anyone else able to play 60 fps video without any dropped frames?

I've got 59.94fps stuff playing in madVR and EVR-CP with ReClock with no frame drops as long as madVR's exclusive mode is on (no frame drops in Ctrl+J and completely smooth), or Aero is disabled.

I'm just using ffdshow for video and audio.

note: monitor set to and detected as 59.6Hz (my graphics card's default '60Hz' mode).

Without ReClock, madvr reports "1 frame drop every 2.95 seconds" and does exactly that.

Hmm, I never noticed that before. Without ReClock it says 1 frame drop every 20 seconds, however I'm still getting a frame drop every second or two and the queue stays at 1-3/8 or so.

I'm at a loss of what to try, maybe the final exclusive mode rendering path will fix this for me?

OK, so what does GPU load come up as reported by GPU-z on the sensors page?
Do you still get the frame drops if you set madVR to Bilinear for all 3 scalers or other scalers?

GPU load reaches 15% at the most with CPU at less than 10%. I've tried with all Bilinear, nearest neighbor etc with all performance options checked, makes no difference frames drop at the same rate. I'm getting off for the night, I'll check back later tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far :)

There seem to be quite a few AMD/ATI people with frame drops in window mode that have zero drops in fullscreen exclusive mode. Try Catalyst 10.6, that "solved" the problem for most people (There's also a list of dll files to keep for using newer Catalysts a few pages back).

What if madVR had a software mode too? Same image quality, just using the CPU for doing some of the heavy lifting like the resizing if not for everything. Might be limited to just bilinear but could be worth it for people with Intel IGP setups.
Maybe some day, but not in the near future.

I'm having a problem with playing 60 fps videos and frames dropping. Even though CPU usage never goes over 8% or 9% and GPU usage stays at ~15%, I'm getting 1 frame drop every second or two.
Not sure where that's coming from, but try again with the next madVR version which (hopefully) will have a new and improved presentation logic for exclusive mode.

Thanks for that. But madVR still tries to get network access.
It does? It shouldn't. Can you give me a few more details? E.g. when does it happen and how do you know that it happens?

question to the reclock users, what for are you using reclock in combination with madvr, for enhanced video presentation or for audio bistreaming only? in case of video, is there any advantage or need to additionally use reclock in combination with madvr for certain displays or type of content?

in case of audio only, it is possible to disable the video stuff by editing the registry.

IMO there is a sence to use reclock in combination with madvr if audio output is set to PCM (not bitstream). This way you have perfect fps adaptation for video and WASAPI/KS output for sound. In case you prefer to bitstream audio (as is) you can't use fps adaptation, that makes using ReClock pointless. Note, you can set ReClock to convert PCM to AC3 on the fly after fps adaptation (the only way to use S/PDIF bitstream in this case).

Actually, that's exactly how I use REclock w/MPC-HC and madVR. My monitor is set to 24Hz, Reclock is set to output PCM (Wasapi) to my analog mulit-ch device and then adapts the video, which is 23.976 fps. THis is one of the designed uses for Reclock.

It is a rock-solid, very smooth set up. With my system, it's the best, most reliable playback option.

(I should mention I use LAV splitter/decoder, for FLAC using madFLAC)

Jetico Firewall's HIPS detects it on playback start. I'm not familiar with WinAPI, but I guess it can be triggered by something like WSAStartup().

BTW, is it ok that MPC still loads VSFilter along with madVR? As you've implemented internal subtitles support there is no more need in VobSub.
