So for the moment if I only activate "sharpen edges" or "thin edges" (not both at the same time), then that works.
Are those settings incompatible ?
They work fine together, I doubt it's a madVR bug as nobody has experienced anything similar. Please test with either x64 MPC-HC or MPC-BE media players.

You don't need to have proper calibrated hardware to see that the madVR is giving green tint to the image. I provided direct comparison (screenshot not camera picture) which means it has been taken from the source itself and in the source itself you can see the pixels are painted green ever so slightly if I didn't have VLC to compare I wouldn't even notice it. Please open the provided images in the comment to see for yourself.
Focus on the stalones hair alone. You can see instead of white/grey/black you can see shades of green. Quickly switch between the two and you will see obvious "green tint" with madVR.
I honestly don't know if I have to enable some kind of option to get proper madVR HDR output as the MPC is fresh as well as the madVR with latest LAV filters. Nothing modified or changed only flipped the fullscreen and exclusive screen as well as HDR passthrough.

Check in "trade quality for performance" if the HDR options are checked, maybe.
Edit 2: come to think of it, how does madVR take screenshots of HDR material when set to passthrough? Does it convert to SDR?
Edit: forget that, silly me, that would only affect HDR if it was processed. No idea, really.

The green is too much, so are the reds (-> face). Take a look at these threads:

Those threads are simply BT.601 v.s. BT.709.

Only select HDR passthrough in madVR, leave the Windows setting alone.
You don't need to have proper calibrated hardware to see that the madVR is giving green tint to the image.
HDR passthrough works great for me and I was finally able to calibrate the HDR mode on my TV. Neither of your screenshots appear to have a problematic green cast to them on my display. I can see a difference, madVR looks more saturated, but I would not be willing to say which colors were the correct ones.
It could be that your display's very low saturation greens are a bit too saturated (very common) so it while it shouldn't look green it looks green to you. Or it could just be a BT.601 v.s. BT.709 issue, I wouldn't trust the TVs internal player to necessarily get that correct either. :(

I've tested with MPC-HC x64 and the result is the same as with PotPlayer, the PC crashes as soon as I enter fullscreen mode with H.264 files when "sharpen edges" and "thin edges" are both activated :O

Yes, I agree, because I think a wrong conversion of one matrix to another might be the issue, of course for this issue it won't be simply BT.601 vs. BT.709. But I have no file to test with. MKVToolNix can cut out a short sample in really short time.

Just updated to Windows 10 build 1903 and straight away noticed desktop looked more saturated.
Loaded the black clipping test file and my calibrated settings are now flashing 20-25 instead of 17-25.
I have an Nvidia GTX 970 with latest drivers 22 May 2019. Anyone else having issues?

In the Nvidia control panel set your display to use full range 8 bit RGB. Others have also reported the default for their display changing to limited range.

Yes, that was the first thing I changed - which is always required after a driver update.
On Full Range it flashes 20-25.
I had to unlock my calibrated ISF settings, adjusting the brightness from 49-50 got it back down to 17-25 with 16 faintly visible.
Obviously I would prefer to leave it on 49, especially as it seems the culprit is the windows update.
But you can see it in the screenshots and VLC doesn't show it, so it's not Windows' or the TV's fault.

the screen is SDR. so it is clearly not directly out of the source.
But the Sony XF90 is HDR, and he says he's using passthrough. What I don't understand is how the screenshots have the proper transfer function. Is that possible with the Windows 10 HDR?
Edit: So when the source is HDR, madVR is tone mapping the screenshots with default settings despite the settings in the screenshots tab (good to know since I was unable to find any information about this), and VLC is also tone mapping but with unknown settings...
The surprising thing is that the results are so similar. :p

Subtitles - 7.5ms
If you are using subtitles I would recommend Kmplayer. It's easier and the subtitles are better than x-y filter and any other players. Kmplayer will use the cpu to render subtitles leaving GPU for Madvr.
Uninstall lav filters.
Install Kmplayer
install lav filter (important to do this so lav filter will be system default)
Kmplayer setting - important that decoder usage internal for video and audio is disabled. Use external and system default for both video and audio. Video processing - general - transform disabled dxva2 checked. Renderer - madvr. Setup subtitles to your liking.

I would like to buy Intel NUC Kit 8th Generation: NUC8i5BEH and use it to play my 2160p HDR 10bit movies collection via MPC-HC + madVR + LAV Filters. I would like to ask, if some of you have such miniPC from Intel and can confirm, if it works without any drops during playing at 23.976 or 60 (Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk and Youtube 2160p60 HDR)?
Will I be able to play also Dolby Atmos and DTS:X using LAV Filters + MPC-HC?

I don't own this NUC but just looking at the specs I can tell that the iGPU won't get you very far...
You will certainly decode 4K but probably won't be able to use the most powerful features of madvr, especially if you watch 2160p60 content...

If you use Passthrough HDR, it will work fine.
Currently Madvr's HDR tonemapping which is dynamic and superior to typical TV's internal tonemapping requires 1060 (bare minimum) ,, we recommend a 1070 and above.
If you own a more premium TV, The TV's processing may look good enough.

a zotac zbox or an box with the same size housing an AMD APU should be cheaper and more powerful at the same time.

this should be relative easy to fix but out of the box unlikely.

However when bitstreaming you need good refresh rate timings to avoid dropped/repeated frames, and Intel GPUs aren't the best at that.

I have the BOXNUC8i5BEK NUC, and I found the iGPU totally unsatisfactory for madVR use. My 4K TV actually does a better job with HDR10 content than the current official build of madVR, and it supports Dolby Vision. Of course, madVR can't be beat for upscaling everything else, so I ended up buying an eGPU enclosure with a Thunderbolt 3 interface (Razer Core X) and installed the GTX 1080 I had in my desktop. I spent more money than I intended, but now I have the best of both worlds in my living room.

I tried everything else, and even manually editing EDID to force 4K at all times didn't fix it. My theory is that windows loses connection to the TV/Receiver completely for a split second while HDR is being disabled. When loss of HDMI handshake occurs windows briefly goes into 480p, which screws up all your window sizes and positions. Honestly, why windows still can't remember window sizes based on resolution is beyond me.
I'm having the same windows resizing issues. Anyone else having issues with windows resizing after watching HDR (madvr) content?

The chroma information isn't presented correctly. D3D11 Native is a better choice for that reason.

Hi guys, been lurking for years but I finally have a question to ask so I decided on signing up.
I have been tinkering with MadVR's HDR to SDR for a few days now, and for the most part everything is looking great, but I have noticed a few little issues that I would like to fix if at all possible.
A couple of examples;
Evil Dead 2. The reds are bleeding into the white area of Ash's teeth and eyeball.

Die Hard. The reds in this scene really overblown compared to most other areas in the film. There is patchiness on the right side of Holly's face and neck.

This isn't just limited to my PotPlayer/MadVR setup. It also happens with the all-in-one MPV Player.
Is this an fixable on my end, or am I expecting too much from HDR to SDR conversion.

The first screenshot is exactly the same in the SDR version. This kind of thing should be checked before blaming the conversion to SDR. As for the problems of oversaturation, there's not much you can do ATM apart from adjusting the color settings on your TV.

It's not a scene with natural skin tone, so I mean.
Based on what reference are we to say it's Over-saturated ? :p

after I finally got some UHD HDR content (that I cannot play because no HDR displays) I somehow got into experimenting instead of just using x265 / madVR and tried to implement mastering display coloring volume metadata into x264 (since the H.264 spec supports it). Even with some help from x264dev on freenode I wasn't able since I can't do C. In the end someone else wrote a patch with the missing bits.
x264 can do HDR now ... woohoo :)
Sadly madVR doesn't enable tonemapping as it does for x264 HDR content. I guess it's just not enabled for h264 content?

You can use the hdr=on or transfer=hdr tags for that.

Does the filter / decoder need to be aware of this? The HDR info is inside the bitstream as a SEI.
The patch is currently only on pastebin so basically nothing knows about it /is patched yet.

i'm not a developer for this but the meta data has to reach madVR.
if the source filter needs to repack the meta data for directshow so the renderer can see it you will need the patch.
lavfilter may not even look for the meta data for obvious reasons.

I own Lenovo Ideapad 320 i3-7100u with iGPU Intel 620 and GPU GeForce 940MX. I have tried to watch .mkv remux of Gladiator 2160p 23.976 HDR 10bit, but it's not smooth. Rendering is below 41.71ms, but there are lots of dropped frames. Notebook is conntected to my monitor LG 27UK600-W 4K HDR via HDMI cables via Onkyo TX-NR686 (HDMI 2.0b HDCP 2.2).
MPC-HC 1.8.6, madVR 0.92.17, LAV Filters 0.74.1
NVIDIA Control Panel set to maximum performance of 940MX, Windows 10 1809 also 940MX.
LAV Filters - Video Decoder - D3D11 and 940MX
This notebook hardware is to weak to have no frame drops or I am doing something wrong?

I have reinstalled to the latest madVR and LAV Filters. I have change to default values both softwares and change LAV Video Decoder to D3D11 - Automatic/Native and now I have frame drops only on the launching of movie file and after few seconds there are no more frame drops. When I set LAV Video Decoder other then D3D11 I have frame drops. When I set D3D11 and other then Automatic/Native let say: NVIDIA 940MX or Intel 620 I have also frame drops, so the only one setting works for me Automatic/Native.
I don't know, why automatic exlusive mode is not working and why there is 8bit stated in madVR statistics.

There IS indeed an issue with the conversion, or setting somewhere, so I am still looking for help with this as my first post says.

Sounds to me like an "overblown reds" if its an ATI card, but since you don't give any info apart from this is broke, please fix it, with no more input from your side, :)
There a lots of settings in the later Testing builds here, but as I said, they are still testing it, so there may be issues along the way still.

Using a GTX 970 latest non-beta MadVR ( tried beta too ) in conjunction with PotPlayer.
This issue is also present in MPV Player.

Save this as *.hlsl and load it in MPC-HC. It just convert the gamut to Rec.709 or DCI-P3. You can edit it as a text file, change the gamut option from the second line to DCI-P3 if you get oversaturation.
Do shaders work with madVR and HDR? They only starts with EVR CP.

They work for me on Windows 7 with MPC-HC/BE + madVR or EVR CP.
Daicon said he was on Windows 10 and needed to install DirectX.

What you select and what is actually being used might differ (software fallback). To check see what LAV Video settings of active instance state as "Active Decoder: [...]" and "Active Hardware Accelerator: [...]". In madVR OSD the decoding queue indicates whether video decoding is fast enough (queue always full or nearly full) or not (queue low/empty).
