Yep my £33 Ivy Bridge Celeron handles everything on my server, including serving HDTV streams for multiple clients. Fantastic value for money, those sub-i3 chips. The only real bottleneck is HDD/SSD speed. Ideally I'd have a separate HDD for each tuner card but that isn't viable.

works fine for me. the backbuffer stays at 0-1 but there aren't any framedrops all.
but changing back to "present several frames in advance" make you trouble in exclusive mode until i restart the player.
Addition:
DXVA2 copyback works fine, only DXVA2 native doesn't work for me when both "present several frames in advance" and "enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode" is enabled.
If I disable "enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode", it works, and I can switch it to exclusive mode via keyboard shortcut.

Why don't you want to present several frames in advance? Without that option you're just using the "old path".

Basically Celeron's come with 2MB cache, Pentium 3MB and i3's 4MB+HT.
FWIR, there's a good reason why the Haswell Celeron's haven't been released yet and I guess a 50 bucks CPU would perfectly fuel mVR with a proper GPU.

Why don't you want to present several frames in advance? Without that option you're just using the "old path".
When 50p/60p/25i/30i video is playing with subtitle in my computer, it is easier to have frame dropping if "present several frames in advance" is enabled.

I googled it.. am confused since they talk about different types of it regarding interlace, non interlace ..
And is the linear light setting recommended?

it's pretty simple:
it just takes 2 frames shows at the time line and blends the frame.
for example 24 hz to 60 hz.
normally it is shown a2 then b3 times the frame now it is:
a2 ab b2
the ab frame is 50 % a and 50 % b blended in this case.
that's a very simple way to describe it it is not even 100 % right.
madVR has to show a frame (c) with smooth motion it looks at the time line and see the frame(c) should be visible for 16 ms but the old frame(a) only takes 4 ms from these 16 ms and the next frame(b) 12 ms so normally the next frame(b) is shown but with smooth motion the old frame(a) gets blended with the next frame(b) and that case 25 % old (a) and 75% next (b) frame.
And is the linear light setting recommended?
it is a trade quality for performance so for best quality nope leave it unchecked.

How is the Percentage determined here.
most likely 50 %
it should work like this
a frame in a 24 hz movie is 41.71 ms
and a display with 60 hz got 16.6 ms frame duration.
41.71 -16.6 -16.6 = 8.52 ms left after 2 frames so the next frame should be 8.52 ms frame1 and the rest frame2
so it is 100/16.6 *8.52 = 51.3 % frame1 and the rest is frame2
don't forget numbers are wrong thx to rounding and so on and madvr takes cares of clock devastation too. a gpu clock is everything but not 100 % stable so this is corrected too same for the audio clock.
edit: i took a 24000/1001 frame not a 24 hz frame X-) even more realistic but way more complicated.

I have compared 24p movies on my monitor with 72Hz VS 60Hz+Smooth Motion (same monitor different Refresh Rate).
With my hardware calibrated monitor I see absolutely no difference.

Anyone interested in Black Frame Insertion to eliminate LCD Motion Blur?
It would be great to have an option to insert a black frame instead the third frame (out of five) in 60HZ mode (3:2 -> 2:BF:2).
This will eliminate motion blur and will have a perfect cinema smoothness (instead of smooth motion blending).
BUT, it will flicker like old film cinema projection did (no triple flashing).
AND the film will look darker, so it will be necessary to boost the brightness (Backlight on TV's)
Or in 72Hz monitors: 3:3 -> 2:BF:2:BF.
Faster flicker but still visible.
I would like to see how it goes on.

60Hz is honestly not enough refresh rate for BFI, it'll look terrible. You'll probably need over 100Hz for this to work decently.
You can probably emulate this with an AviSynth script, if you really want to try it out. But i can already tell you that with 60Hz is not worth-while.

Running 0.86.11, I experienced a crash. Having two instances of MPC-HC open and drag-dropping an .mkv onto one of them is what preceded the crash. The madVR crash report (http://www.filedropper.com/madvr-crashreport).
That link doesn't seem to work for me.
Unless I am mistaken, I seem to remember older builds of madVR offering DX11 output.
That was a feature that madshi tried out in order to help with nvidia driver issues. It didn't actually make madVR a DX11 application. It was still DX9 but used a single feature only found in DX11.
Rendering was done in DX9, presentation with DX11. Going this way may allow at some point to do 10bit output. But there were some problems with the DX11 presentation logic, so when it was no longer needed to work around nvidia driver issues, I removed the DX11 presentation logic. The code is still there, though. But no, 10bit output is not planned for the *near* future.
Is it possible to output x.v.Color from my HTPC when madVR is used with MPC-BE and when using a ATI HD7950 GPU? I ask this because my display device supports x.v.Color and I want to check out some MI4K (Mastered In 4K) Blu-Ray content.
I fear that might not be possible, at least not easily. Most renderers (including madVR) convert the image to RGB at some point. And with xvColor content, that results in pixels with negative RGB components. These are usually clipped during rendering. So no, I don't think it will work.
But it's not a problem, really, because those MI4K Blu-Rays do *NOT* really have xvColor information, from all that I've read and seen in various forums. It seems to be a marketing gag by Sony. One guy on AVSForum found out that the old Spider-Man 2 Blu-Ray had actually *more* out-of-range chroma values than the new MI4K Blu-Ray has. That pretty much sums up the state of things. Forget about xvColor. None of the current MI4K Blu-Rays seem to actually use it in any way worth mentioning.
Ok I thought it was completely fixed now...
I did implement a workaround which worked for my Intel GPU in win8.0. I don't know whether the workaround worked for other GPUs or whether it still works in win8.1. Maybe I'll look into this sooner or later.
When "present several frames in advance" in "exclusive mode settings" is disabled, DXVA2 decoder isn't usable anymore.

I plan to inset the black frame every two frames, not every other frame in a 24p movies.
It'll work for 72Hz and 60Hz.

Recently I have been experiencing dropped or repeated frames during playback with the test builds - one or two every film - and I had the chance to do some troubleshooting earlier today.
The short version of that is: I think there may be an issue with the way that madVR is calculating the display's refresh rate in these test builds.
In the test builds, it's constantly fluctuating every second, and the frame repeat estimation can jump from just over a minute to several days, every few seconds.
If I revert to the "release build" 0.86.11, my refresh rate seems to be displayed correctly (24.00000Hz ±0.00002) and I'm no longer getting dropped frames during playback.
These dropped frames are not merely errors in the stats, but visible stutters during playback.
Anyone interested in Black Frame Insertion to eliminate LCD Motion Blur?Dark frame insertion really needs to be handled by the backlight to be effective.
There are too many problems introduced when using the LCD panel for it to work well.

Why is it recommended for AMD users to output 4:4:4 FullRGB? I thought Blu-Ray content is 4:2:0 so isn t it so that what settings it to 4:4:4 at some point on the HTPC the content is 'converted' to 4:4:4 and in the display device the image is again converted from 4:4:4 (because it got this 4:4:4 signal from the htpc) to 4:2:0?

tv and beamer are nearly all native RGB 4:4:4 so your tv is doing this anyway at some point.
some tv get an rgb 4:4:4 signal but transform that to 4:2:2 and doing post processing and than converting that to rgb 4:4:4 again.
hdmi can't send YCbCr 4:2:0 (yeah hdmi 2.0 can do it...) 4:2:2 is min so you just have to convert it to 4:2:2.
and nearly all devices support rgb 4:4:4 so we just got better quality from madvr because madvr is doing the resizing (up sampling) in 16 bit. the chroma upscale in madvr does this.

Sometimes I'd like to compare whether the video upscaled by madVR looks better than the same material pre-scaled. Since the resolution obviously differs, would it be possible to have an option that tells madVR to pass i.e. MPC-HC's save image function the upscaled version of the frame instead of the source frame? Or is it something MPC-HC would have to implement?

I had to reinstall windows 8.0 (some games were not compatible with 8.1...) and the issue is still there. I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 so it seems the workaround is not compatible with Nvidia GPU.

My display device, a Sony VPL-VW1000ES projector will be updated to HDMI 2.0 soon. This will be done by swapping the mainboard. This will make the VW1000 HDMI 2.0+HDCP 2.2 compatible. However, Sony will implement the 10.2gbps chips and not the 18.0gbps chip. The 18.0gbps chips are not available yet but Sony want to push 4K as you might know. This means that with the 10.2gbps chip my projector cannot accept 4:4:4 @60Hz (according to a user on the AVS forum http://www.avsforum.com/t/1359018/sony-vpl-vw1000/7700_100#post_24117504). When HDMI 2.0 videocards will become available they will probably be able to output 4K 4:4:4 60Hz. I am not interested in 4:4:4 but I AM interested in 4K@60Hz because this will make it possible to use a so called Frame Interpolation program on a HTPC called SVP (Smooth Video Project). But my projector will not accept 4K@60Hz because it is outputted @4:4:4 by the HTPC. Do you think there is a chance that a GPU will be able to somehow output 4K@60Hz so my display will accept it even though my display will not be able to accept 4K@60Hz 4:4:4?

your gpu is hdmi 1.4 maybe driver fix this soon or you need a new gpu. but if i read you need a new chip in you beamer a simple driver update will mostlikely not fix this. my nvidia 760 gtx (and mostlikely all kapler with 4 display support) got on updates that makes surround 4k possible so who knows.
Do you think there is a chance that a GPU will be able to somehow output 4K@60Hz so my display will accept it even though my display will not be able to accept 4K@60Hz 4:4:4?
because your gpu can't do either is doesn't matter at the moment.
if sony want to push 4k they should support display port too it's already capable of 4k@60 4:4:4 rgb...
is not like they will die if they add an displayport too

Current Blu-Ray content is 4:2:0. Currently a Blu-Ray discs is played by the HTPC. madVR will output it as 4:2:0 and the GPU outputs 4:4:4 full RGB to the Sony.
this is wrong madvr outputs always 4:4:4 >rgb< and the gpu/end-device does the rest. when people say 4:2:2/4:2:0 they are not even talking about rgb.

I'm looking for a new gpu under $100. I've found HD 7750 and GTX 650 for $70, and an HD 7770 for $90. Which would you recommend for madvr mainly 720p (60fps) and 1080i sources on a 1080p display with jinc ar and debanding?
The GTX 650 looks like the best deal to me but the deint=ivtc bug may still exist in it. Can someone with an Ati 7xxx series and/or nvidia gtx 6xx series open the mkv in the potplayermini.exe that's included in this package (http://www.sendspace.com/file/i3da0o) and report if there's artifacts? Much appreciated.

This is "screen tearing". Do you have V-sync forced off in the drivers, or Aero disabled? (assuming you are on Vista or newer for the latter)

Vsync and aero are enabled. It may look like tearing in the photo but it's not, there's a large box in the top left of the screen and a smaller box in the top right. At times these boxes show a different frame then the rest of the picture. For example, in the photo the top half of the guy in the background is the correct frame but the rest of the picture is 1 frame behind, at times the video plays too slow.
It works fine with Intel and Potplayer or nvidia/intel and MPC. Would really like to find out if ati and newer nvidia cards are effected before I buy one.
Potplayer dev said it's a madvr problem, it's been acknowledge by madshi but nothing recently.

There are several Nvidia vsync settings and I got tearing by using one of the adaptive modes (I don't know if these are available on all cards). Switching vsync to ON instead solved the problem for me as per Madshi's suggestion.

I have a VT60 but do not have those options in my menu. To get 0-255 input I set the HDMI setting (picture menu, option settings) to full. You have to be viewing a picture through HDMI for the options to show.
I think to have full control over GAMMA you need to enable the ISF pro modes or use the custom mode. For me GAMMA goes from 1.8 to 2.6 and also S curve. The Gamma setting is in the advanced picture settings under the GAMMA sub menu.

It seems likely that it's either caused by:
The player
The driver settings for your card
The video card's age

Nvidia driver is not well-compatible with YUY2, I could give you another examples I experienced if necessary.

Thanks that worked, I never would have guessed it was a colorspace issue. Is there a preferred output colorspace? ffdshow auto seems to be yv12.
Also can you give me example or just contact potplayer dev with it so they might consider changing 'auto colorspace' to something other than yuy2?
While this can be worked around in potplayer what might be the real issue; madvr, nvidia hardware or nvidia drivers?
Could it be madvr inputting yuy2, ivtc (problem), converting to yv12? If so wouldn't converting to yv12 before ivtc fix it?
Also speaking of madvr process ordering, it would really be nice if fps was calculated just before rendering instead of when it does now. Here's some issues with the current implementation:
1. On a 60/72/75 hz display, 30 fps source with deint=ivtc, displays at 60hz, no smoothmotion, there's judder. Expect 72hz, no smoothmotion, no judder.
2. On same display, 24 fps source, interframe/svp to 60 fps, displays at 72hz, no smoothmotion, judder. Expect 60hz, no smoothmotion or judder.
3. On a 60hz display, 30 fps with deint=ivtc, no smoothmotion, judder. Expect smoothmotion on.
4. On a 60hz display, 24 fps source, interpolated to 60 fps, smoothmotion is enabled. Expect smoothmotion disabled.

NV12 is good for hardware processing.
I've asked PotPlayer devs why the default output colorspace is YUY2 not NV12(default on MPC/LAV etc.) on NVIDIA/ATI and he replied that: Some Nvidia cards are slow when using NV12, so use YUY2; ATI users complained bad image quality becasue ATI enables certain video 'enhancement' features by default in CCC which actually reduce quality instead of making things better, and NV12 will apply these settings in CCC when using VMR/EVR renderers but YUY2 won't.
You don't use PotPlayer's internal video decoder, right? Then just disable its internal video post-processing filter. Or just change the default colorspace to NV12 when using internal video decoder.

Yeah, you'd be better off disabling all the PotP internal filters. LAV for decoding/splitting and ffdshow for post-processing do it better anyway.
BTW, it's extremely convenient to have mVR automatically rolling refresh rates when going FS but it becomes a bit of a struggle when trying to watch 25p@24Hz.....I guess the best solution is to hit the "display mode switcher" toggle hotkey before going FS.

Yeah I saw this option but I also happen to have genuine 25p material, ideally I would need a 24Hz hotkey but I guess I'll just map the "display mode switcher" toggle hotkey and roll the refresh rate on my own for 25p@24Hz.

can someone confirm that 60i with 3:2 forced film mode played at 60 hz has a judder even with smoothmotion? i'm pretty sure that worked before.

Makes sense to stay away from NV12 by default in that case, what about YV12?
I use internal video and occasionally other filters so I'll just change the colorspace.

Also nevermind scenarios 1 and 3 in my previous post, they seem to work after another test.
