madVR v0.44 released
http://madshi.net/madVR.zip
* fixed ZoomPlayer OSD graphical corruption problem (again)
* fixed bug in OSD text message handling
* added support for subtitle rendering through ISubRenderCallback

The MPC-HC subtitle renderer now fully works with madVR! However, I had to fix a couple of bugs in MPC-HC to make it work properly. Furthermore I've patched MPC-HC so that it now draws its text messages by using madVR's internal OSD text message system. My bugfixes are already committed to the MPC-HC SVN, so all new SVN builds compiled by other people should also work just fine with madVR v0.44. For your convenience you can get SVN binaries e.g. here:

Enjoy!

cool. Does this imply that we should re-install madVR (with proper register) as opposed to just copy?

Re-install is not necessary. Of course it doesn't harm, either.

Just tested the new madVR with the patched MPC-HC. The option 'Position subtitles relative to the video frame' in 'Subtitles ---> Default Style' has to be fully unchecked for styled ASS/SSA subtitles to be rendered correctly. If the option is fully enabled, the subtitles will be blown out of proportions.

Is that different to how Haali and VMR/EVR behave? If so, can you please upload a little sample for me with which I can reproduce the problem?

As ranpha said sometimes it's out of proportion with 'Position subtitles relative to the video frame' fully enabled but sometimes I also have madVR lost connection and doesn't show any styled subtitle with either state of that option.

Nothing to worry about. I think he didn't use an SVN client which updates it automatically and he thought that it's not important to update it manually (as this is only a test build).

I think it has something to do with the out of proportion bug as well. After testing more carefully this seems only to happen with the "Position..." option fully enabled. Way to reproduce on my system with madVR with default settings and "Position..." enabled and is to simply start playback with a mkv with style sub. Only when I go fullscreen (exclusive mode kicked in) right click on video (window mode kicked in) then I see the sub. Exiting fullscreen and the sub is lost again.
EDIT: Tried to download ranpha's video to see if there's any problem but my internet is quite slow currently because of one of our undersea fiber connection was cut ATM. I think it will happen with any file as it has for me on any file I have tested.

You might also add two asterisks (**) to the renderer menu of MPC-HC to indicate that it supports the internal renderer now.

There will be a syconronization problem when I switch a subtitle to the others, and the subtitles were muxed in a MKV.
Besides, when I resized windows or change between windows mode and fullscreen mode, it always showed this message "madVR reports: -resetting Direct3D device failed (8876086c)".

This is a bug in MPC-HC which is fixed in MPC-HC 1.5.0.2988. If you prefer to use an older MPC-HC build, you may be able to work around the bug by setting the MPC-HC subtitle option "Sub pictures to buffer" to 0. This workaround is not necessary with 1.5.0.2988 (or newer).

Switch track? You mean switch file, right? Yes, I put two files in a playlist. Seeked to the middle of the first file, let it play (subtitles showed), then I did nothing, waited until MPC-HC started the 2nd file in the play list. Subtitles automatically showed.

Don't know what to do about this. I guess it must be some setting that makes it behave differently for you than for me. Or maybe your files are different, don't know. If you find a way for me to reproduce the problem then I can easily fix it.

I have had a play with subtitles and problems are coming here if I seek forwards and backwards a single movie file, it dosent happen all the time but most times it does. It basically continues the subtitles without taking into account I have seeked to an earlier point in the movie. I quickly checked with the EVR renderer to confirm it does not happen there.
To give a bit more info, Im using the seekbar in MPC-HC and not the seekbar at the bottom of the picture in fullscreen exclusive mode (it dosen't seen to make a difference however). This also only happens with subtitles held in external file (srt) and not within a mkv. The more I test it seems subtitles within mkv is perfect, subtitles in external file is very broken.... I'm wondering if you still need some changes in MPC-HC?

thanks for the subtitle support, finally reverted back to MPC-HC subtitle renderer, which seems to be the finest to date.

Thanks for the new MPC-HC subtitle support. Even though I haven't been able to get MPC-HC to run on my system (I haven't formatted in a long time and installed fresh so maybe it's an OS problem since I can only get MPC-HC 64bit to work), this hopefully means subtitle support for all players may be coming. :)
Anyways this new version is spitting out this error and locks up my player randomly and I have to go into the task manager and end the task. Also sometimes it loads, but when I try to go fullscreen and enter exclusive mode it spits this error out:
MadVR reports:
-resetting Direct3D device failed (8876086c)
I've tried un-registering, deleting all files, reinstalling, re-registering and same thing. I haven't changed any MadVR settings, they are all at default when I install fresh. I tried disabling reclock so basically it's just potplayer's splitters for everything but MKV and ffdshow for decoding. If I roll back to the previous version I was using 0.43 everything works again.
I'm using the config in my sig. Is this update just designed for MPC-HC and that's why it's not working for me since I'm trying to use it with PotPlayer.
Basically for some reason on my system it's just not working.

If you are referring to the 9.0c which you can get from here:

Yes that is what I was refering to. When I did it I used ther dx9 updater that comes on game dvd's but this was back when win7 was first released. I just tried the web installer you mention and that runs fine on my win7 x64 SP1.

DX9, DX10 and DX11 all live happy in parallel. DX11 does not replace DX9, applications that still use DX9 still need DX9 updates eventually. When you run that web installer (and havent done so before), it should download around 90mb of additional DirectX libraries that do not ship with windows (for 9, 10, and 11). Usually games that need them take care of the installation themself.
In any case, madVR always worked fine for me without installing the runtime - maybe that changed with the subtitle stuff, i don't know. MPC-HCs internal renderers need it, though.

The web installer installs any and all previous versions. It even installs newer version, you can run one from 2009 and it would pick up the new directx updates from 2010, because it just asks the MS server which stuff is available. It is not versioned.

This is a very stupid statement.
The DirectX End-User Runtime Update packages update every DX components from DX7(?) to DX11+
You should always install every update packages (even a "just released" Windows can benefit from it as there is a relatively big gap between the RTM marking and actual release).

Calling me stupid when you clearly have deficiency with reading my posts, cool beans. For the second time, I have downloaded and updated my system already with the latest DirectX runtime released in June 2010 which is the latest one:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d&pf=true
So this is not my issue. Anyways.... read below.
I had updated my system with the directx_Jun2010_redist.exe It is 97mb and extracts to like 500mb. My system is up to date.
Anyways, my issue with the 32-bit version of MPC-HC just crashing on my system I'm pretty sure has nothing to do with DX files. MPC-HC 64-bit version runs perfectly fine with either EVR-CP + DXVA or Haali renderer (since it has a 64-bit version).
I've tried to clean my registry of the old mpc-hc entries using this registry file which is the only thing I managed to get out of the MPC devs when I asked for support for this a few months ago. I even have mpc-hc using an INI file hoping that it doesn't have to touch the registry.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest]
Anyways, I digress this is just something screwed up in my Win7 install and I don't want to format and reinstall just to run mpc-hc 32-bit. My problems on my system are running the new version of MadVR with potplayer. If there is another 32-bit media player that runs reclock and madvr fine and has the new subtitle support I'd be willing to try that. :)

Yes that's because it probably detects that all the DX runtimes are up to date (DX9-11 or mabye it even goes back further to DX7 or DX8). That's the way the program is designed, it's not going to re-download and re-install all the DirectX runtimes if everything is up to date already. :)
