Hi,
I have video/image freeze, green random flashes and slow down 1 renderer queue.
all happens randomly after a while watching the movie or just fast fowarding. the instant fix is to use Jinc and it fix the slow down, but if the image freeze I need to restart the video.
using 344.75
Any fix for that ?

What's the recommended Image Upscaling algorithm while using NNEDI3 for Luma doubling only using a GTX 670. Thanks.

It depends what type of content you are watching. If you're watching live action video (humans and animals) Jinc is often the preferred upscaler. If you're watching line drawn content (anime, animation, lots of 3d special effects) then Mitchell is preferred upscaler.

By curiosity, when you're in PC mode, are you able to enable "LED Clear Motion" in your Samsung options ? Again I doubt it, but it would be nice if you surprised me again. :)
No sorry, almost everything in the menu is greyed out, including those kind of options.No sorry, almost everything in the menu is greyed out, including those kind of options.
I forgot to add, that I entered the Service Menu and could enable "Smart LED" for PC connections in there. That is the dimming system. I could find nothing else that could be enabled (Motion etc).

Jinc3AR, unless you're short on GPU power, in that case I'd suggest Lanczos3AR.

Not sure if the GPU will be used at all for HEVC decoding, if the VPU doesn't support it. I don't really know.
It's really done by the shader units, Nvidia Inspector doesn't show VPU usage. Only GPU usage.
Works btw. well with DXVA2 CB of LAV & madVR (8 bit only currently).
Thanks for new version. Perfect. :thanks:

I can second that issue. Using NNEDI3 32 neurons on chroma upscaling with 1080p content on a 1440p display crashes the player. Going back to Jinc, no issues. I'm also using windows 10 9888 with madvr 87.11, so I suspect windows may be the culprit.

The crashing did not occur on 87.10 when on Windows 10 build 9879. While on windows 10 build 9888, the crashing occurred on both 87.10 and 87.11 for 1080p content only while using NNEDI3.
I personally reinstalled the latest nightly MPC-HC, madvr 87.11, xy-subfilter 3.1.0.703, and the latest nvidia beta drivers 344.80. As well as cleaned my registry with CCCleaner. I can no longer reproduce the crashing with NNEDI3. Perhaps it was a mere hiccup with the windows update that required the drivers to be reinstalled again. I will let you know if the crashing reoccurs and send the bug report.
Kostik, try reinstalling your display driver again and see if the issue goes away. :)

madshi, madVR seems to be very unstable when playing videos on the 2nd monitor. Though MPC-HC is unstable, too (crashes with EVR CP), but sometimes I get madVR debug window (with "Close application", "Continue" buttons). I remember you confirmed there are issues with the palyback on the 2nd monitor but the main advice was to playback videos on the 1st monitor. Is there any sense to try to reproduce the steps that lead to crash to report it to you, to send you any info regarding the 2nd monitor playback issues?

this sounds like a serious system problem. even EVR CP is crashing???
I use madVR with two 1080p screen mainly one the second screen the main is a 120 hz and second 60 hz for a really long time with no issue since I switched to windows 10 back from windows 7 which has serious desktop composition issue.

Found a bug. In the scaling algorithms profiles, I have this defined.
if (targetWidth <= 1366) && (srcHeight <= 300) "Laptop 288p"
else if (targetWidth <= 1366) && (srcHeight <= 480) "Laptop 480p"
else if (targetWidth <= 1366) && (srcHeight <= 768) "Laptop 720p"
else if (targetWidth <= 1366) "Laptop 1080p"
Playing 1080p videos select "Laptop 720p"!
If, however, I replace srcHeight <= 768 by srcHeight < 769, then it selects "Laptop 1080p".
There seems to be something wrong with the <= operator or something around there.
I'm using the .11 version that was just released.
Edit: There's still something random to it. With that edit, it still sometimes select "Laptop 720p" but much less often. To know which one is selected, I open madVR settings and look which one is in bold. I seem to be getting a more consistent 1080p selection by putting condition srcHeight < 760
Edit2: I'm seeing that SVP has an option that decreases the image to the screen size, which means madVR doesn't see it as a 1080p video but rather as a 768p video. If any additional cropping is applied, then the resolution ends up being even smaller. This might be related to the issue.

I've heard many times how NNIDE3 is so GPU-intensive. Am I missing something or is it LESS demanding than Jinc?
While playing a 1080p video on 768p screen, I'm getting these rendering times with chroma upscaling
Jinc 3-taps AR: 7.7ms
Jinc 4-taps AR: 18ms
NNEDI3 32 neurons: 7.6ms
NNEDI3 256 neurons: 7.7ms
I have a Radeon HD 7660M on Windows 7 x64
So basically the highest settings I can have to play 1080p on 768p display with SVP + madVR still leaves half of my video card unused (as I can go up to 16ms rendering time)

There are two places where NNEDI3 can be selected. In Chroma Upscaling, or as you're saying, in Image Doubling. I'm not seeing a significant cost for Image Doubling either. It only affects smaller videos that are lighter to process anyway.

MadVR reads the resolution from upstream filter, not the file. Just check the OSD (CTRL+J) to see what madVR gets your video as.

nnedi3 can only upscale. how do you upscale a 1080p video on a 768p screen?
you are not even using jinc in this case because jincs in madVR can't downscale too.
the only way to use nnedi3 with a 1080p source on a 786p is through chroma scaling same with jincs.
and to make things clear 1080p on a 1080p screen is very simple while 480p - 720p source on a 1080p screen takes a lot more processing power.
of cause i'm only talking about the work madVR has to do we are in the madVR thread.

He means the opposite, it seems that jinc 4 taps AR is way slower than NNEDI3 256 neurons in his machine...
The reason may be that NNEDI3 dont use extra AR feature, thats whats slowing your machine in Jinc 4 AR i suppose

That's not what his results show though. vivan is correct that NNEDI3 is not being used on MysteryX's system. Since his results are identical, it means OpenCL is broken and madVR is silently falling back to a different upscaling setting. NNEDI3 chroma upscaling is relatively expensive on 1080p video, so there is no way he could have render times less than 8ms on a AMD 7660M even with NNEDI3-32.

OK NNEDI3 definitely isn't working. I tested with a 288p video by enabling/disabling frame quadrupling with all 4 options to 256 neurons, and rendering time is exactly the same.
For chroma upscaling, it is probably silently falling back to Jinc 3-taps AR since rendering times are the same.
Still... I'm pretty such there is a slight quality increase, unless it's a psychological effect.

there has to be a reason why openCL doesn't work on your system.
a 7660m can use openCL that why I miss judge the situation and guess you where trying to use image double because the rendertimes didn't changed. there is simply no reason madVR wouldn't use it for chroma.

OpenCL is working. SVP is using it.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bits. Radeon HD 7660M.
As for drivers, I'm using LeeKM's modded driver v14.200. It's more stable and faster than any other driver I've tried. Unfortunately, as far as I know, none of LeeKM's more recent drivers support this graphic card. The latest Samsung-approved dual-graphics driver is very old with much lower performance, and although installing the latest driver directly from AMD works for my system, it doesn't work better than this version so I always end up reverting back to this one.

Why it still 0.87.10 on the menu ? and it doesn't update to 87.11 ? I didn't know it's the new version till I actually download it.
It seems that it fixed the problem I had with Nvidia 970/980 with NNEDI3 , slow down, non stop dropped frames, presentation glitches.
Now it works perfectly with 87.11, 0-0 on everything.
Edit : it seem the problem is back, the problem begins after small flash of green screen and then everything becomes slow with 1-3 renderer Queue
Does anyone has issues with 970/980 with NNEDI3 ?
CAN anyone please confirm that NNEDI3 doesn't work properly with NVIDIA 970/980 GTX using 344.75 drivers ? Please
if the Nvidia 3DTV is enabled than there is SLOW DOWN after couple of seconds. There is green flash and subtitles arifacts black square or just messed up subtitles. renderer queue goes to 1 permatnaly instead 2-3, non stop dropped frames. Changing to Upscaling Jinc fix the problem instantly. With Nvidia 3DTV is disabled, there are no slow down, but there is a green flash every couple of seconds or when fast/back fowarding x number of times, and the more you do it eventually the video would freeze, the seconds doesn't move, but you can pause/play and move to any duration you want, but the movie won't play until Stop and Play. When restarting or Logging off windows 7, there is a little flash, like small tiny flash that doesn't happen before the problem with the NNEDI3. it's like something in the Nvidia Drivers or Madvr that messing something up, I just need confirmation about this, Games are running properly.

a split is used in this screen this should be the case. because this only used for nvidia and intel GPU. maybe your intel IGPU is used for madVR.

over 13 ms rendertimes and it works better in fullscreen mode.
if SVP is used it looks like it sometimes takes to many GPU power so madVR can't render the frames fast enough.

the screen clearly shows that madVR didn't get the frame fast enough. if SVP is used it should be the problem here. rendertimes are really high for SVP usage too.

I need to call out to any experts on madvr/4:4:4 display etc.
I can use 4:4:4 with 23.976 refresh rate in PC mode on my Samsung TV, but this is without any motion enhancements. And to be frank, pure 23.976 doesn't look very smooth (especially in panning/moving scenes).
I am too annoyed by it to be able to keep it this way. Something must be done...
However, if I disable the PC mode, then I can get all the options in the menu and configure the motion stuff (also better blacks), but no longer 4:4:4 (which also makes fonts on the desktop look strange).
According to people here this seems to basically make madvr "useless", when it is not displaying on a 4:4:4 display.
I would love some more info on what exactly goes on when you are using madvr on a non-4:4:4 display.
So if I were to remove madvr - what should be used instead? What are the options and are all options really crappy? :(
Thanks.
edit: I moved from a Sony TV which seems to have had the motion stuff enabled for PC mode. I did not expect this dilemma when moving to Samsung.
