MadVR doesn't work for me in Windows10 in MPC-HC, it just crashes after a minute or two. Using 2x AMD r9 290 with 15.7.1 drivers.
EDIT: I guess this is already well known, sorry!

GeForce driver 355.60 is out, but it didn't bring back D3D9 OCL sharing (so still no NNEDI3 via OpenCL).
At least for now new NVidia drivers are not necessary for any current or upcoming games.

doesn't matter what you choice in madVR it's not used for downscaling because it is scaled down by the GPU driver with terrible quality.
but what do you think you will win by upscaling and downscaling again? thsi is made for games that can run in a higher resolution unlike videos.

(He's Nvidia beta tester and says that nothing will change. Keep in mind he's not an official representative though and so it's not an official statement yet.).
I'd still prefer a SM5.0 implementation. :o

But it's only for Windows 7/8.1. They are still on the process of making a Tweaked Driver for Windows 10.
I'm using it on my Windows 8.1 Machine FX-8320@4.3ghz/2X HD7850 and so far performance and stability are superb running MadVR on FSE 10bit.

i have bought a gsync monitor three days ago and when I switch in FSE mode, Gsync is automatically available even if I desactivate in nvidia driver. In windowed mode, gsync stay disable.
I can adjust if I want gsync for each application. Unfortunatly, with mpc-hc application, nvidia say that this application is not supported to ajust if I want gsync or not.

Yes, you have to completely disable G-sync if you do not want it active when in FSE mode. The individual application settings do not seem to apply to madVR, both for SLI modes and G-sync on/off.
I use overlay mode, it works equally well for me and does not activate G-sync.

I do not believe there is anything for madshi to do here. G-sync will activate for any full-screen 3D application, by design outside of the application's control.
Madshi would need to specifically detect and support G-sync and has been very clear that they don't want to attempt G-sync support because any reasonable implementation would almost certainly provide a significantly worse experience than normal V-sync.
I think using a non-full screen mode (anything not FSE) in madVR is the only reasonable option for G-sync users in the foreseeable future. Given that G-sync also doesn't support >8-bit there is no downside to being unable to use a FSE mode.

I'm really unfamiliar with AMD's tweaks... thanks for that website that tweaks it for you lol.
Btw, can someone give me the best video setting on Catalyst? I'd really appreciate it. It's not very intuitive.

madVR avoids video setting by default. most post processing things are disabled anyway with newer driver.
the correct picture format is important but this is a madVR thread not a general settings thread.

Ah, I won't be trying out the modded drivers till they release one for Windows 10. I already upgraded to Windows 10 and don't possess the inclination to roll-back to Windows 8.1 . I know it's popular opinion to rollback to your previous version of Windows, but I was in no way enamored with Windows 8 to begin with. So I'll take the downside that comes with that decision and use alternative methods for video playback until my issues get fixed, one way or the other. Hopefully that won't be too long so I can start using madVR for most of my video playback again.

BTW, after extensive testing I can safely confirm that this has fixed the "internal error" crash reports I notified you about on several occasions, usually the whole thing was randomly crashing right at the junction between two files when opening a batch of them in seamless playback mode.
PotP's coder kept telling me that the problem was with how mVR handled PotP's D3D GUI and you that PotP was the problem, still it's now solved.....just amazing, I can now open +300 files simultaneously with its fully skinnable D3D GUI that doesn't break FSE and it's all rock solid....sheer awesomeness :thanks:
And after quite a lot of tests in order to find the best sharpness/naturalness compromise, I think I'm up for NEDI chroma with 3/0.41/0.00 SR + sxbr50 without SR for luma(and of course Jinc/CR AR LL & ED2@8bit).
I do get that great looking motion-blur smoothing with chroma SR, it'll even work on 1080p content too and whatever I do I can't get luma SR to look natural as both modes look utterly unsharped, the only diff is that HQ is blurrier. This said, even the current lowest luma SR strength is way too strong IMHO as it was possible to make it quite a bit tamer in .15 AFAICR.

hey, thank you for this great renderer, I wanted to report some issues I had and I am not sure why they happen.
I am using Windows 10,the AMD R9 280X with the 14.12 catalyst driver and the latest MPC-HC and madVR version.
Everything runs smoothly EXCEPT when I press ctrl+j to open up the debug osd, that will crash my graphics driver within 0-30 seconds of having it open and sometimes it crashes so badly my pc cant recover and I have to hard reset. It doesnt seem to matter if I use DXVA2 or not, it just happens at random. Also it does not matter if I use DX9 or DX11, oh and I am not using FSE.

I would download 353.49 except I have an MSI AMD R7 265 OC as per my sig. I also already have Windows update set to ignore driver updates. Thanks for the help and link though.

Hi madshi. madvr+mpc-hc - when OSD is enabled concurrently with Ctrl-J, - it renders behind the Ctrl-J info. Possible to reposition one or the other in a future version thank you!

This actually works for me. There is a mpc profile already and I've added mpc-be.exe (or whichever version you are using) to it using nvidia inspector and then set it to "fixed refresh mode" in nvcp (NOT in nvidia inspector because the g-sync setting is buggy there) and now madvr FSE doesn't trigger g-sync despite still having g-sync globally enabled (I even have it enabled for windowed applications). I've also set it to "application controlled" for the refresh rate since my global nv profile has "always prefer highest refresh rate" enabled. *
I still use mostly overlay anyway which fixes all those problems too :)
*ULMB can set on a per profile basis the same way.
Ah and forgot to mention I don't have the latest drivers nor Windows 10, I'm still on the last drivers to support NNEDI32 & Win 7 64. So if they broke it again I'm sorry, it didn't work for me before either (the per profile g-sync setting for mpc/JRiver) but at some point they fixed it.

It would likely not. The big improvement for DX12 is being able to handle massive amounts of objects without having the CPU be a bottleneck - this is not a use-case for a video renderer.

Sorry to confirm I'm seeing lots of unreported dropped frames, even with D3D9 / non EVR and 14.12 using 88.21.
So I'm reverting to 0.88.16.

I was wondering, when just watching a movie in its native resolution without any scaling involved, which options are there for us to improve further on the image quality (rather objective, so nothing involving additional sharpening etc), compared to madVRs default settings? from what I can see its only choosing a better algorithm for chroma upscaling, right? so nnedi3 should be the best choice here, but whats the next best thing in case your PC is not powerful enough for nnedi3? I take it is super-xbr then?

If you've selected DXVA2 Native on a Nvidia GTX 960, does it still slightly blur the Chroma if you haven't selected "Use DXVA chroma upscaling"? Or is it finally fine to use DXVA2 Native on Nvidia with newer cards?

When video resolution = screen resolution, Bilateral algorithm work very well (IMHO).

I'm in your shoes with my laptop: I'm using dithering and Jinc+AR for chroma, and all the quality restrictions aren't set in that special tab.
And use FSE Old Path, it's way faster than the others.

I got the idea from nussman in the other topic that why I don't talk to madvr directly (after enabling the network interface).
I went through the net-protocol.txt, and the madTPG* source files, but since I'm not c++ programmer, I don't understand anything about it.
Can somebody give me a 'curl' bare minimum example with which I can toggle input source level (CRTL+SHIFT+ALT+I)? (IP is known, and I don't care about error handling for now), like this (question is the content-type, and the method, and the params :) ) :

I have tried out even telnet with all the 3 ports that are mentioned in the manual, but still nothing (mpc-hc is running, and a video is playing, lan access is enabled):

You can also play with debanding, sharpening and dithering.sharpening and dithering is too subjective. well maybe there are better and worse dither algorithms so perhaps some can be discarded as objectively worse. but between the rest it remains subjective
the bilateral algorithm has, according to the chart in madvr, less sharpness and more artifacts than super-xbr so I take it should be objectively speaking worse

I don't if this is a bug or feature:
mpchc64,madvr all latest version on win 8.1 and nvidia gtx 970.
When superxbr doubling is enabled, there is a split second screen corruption when opening and exiting videos.
Problem goes away when superxbr doubling is disabled.
Any ideas?

My videocard settings are at default, but I still get the same issue, where after pausing a film, resuming results in severe frame loss and stutter for indefinite period of time. The only way to fix is to exit Exclusive Fullscreen mode and to enter it again... Sometimes pausing again and resuming also works, but rarely...

which settings are the correct ones when i upscale 1080p to 4k in image doubling? Should I use always or which factor for luma and chroma?
when image doubling is used, chroma and image upscale setting are ignored, right?

madvr default bit depth setting is 8 bit, if your display is not 8 bit you can improve image quality in banding/noise terms

Ok so I tried to figure out the mysterious dropped frames in Win 10.
Tried to replace madvr with EVR, no difference. Tried moving back to 32-bit mpc-hc/lav/madvr. No difference.
Tried using ReClock. No difference. Went back to madvr 88.16. No difference.
The only thing that actually works is to restart the computer, then typically the first movie I watch has no mysterious dropped frames.
After that, it's the same thing.
So I guess this must be something with Win 10. In either case, it's extremely annoying.

Even YCbCr -> RGB conversion produces floating-point values. Imagine that you have flat block of (20, 128, 128) YCbCr color. After RGB conversion it will become (4.65, 4.65, 4.65) RGB. In 8 bit it will result in a pattern of 4 and 5s. In 10 bit (where 10 bit value is like 8 + 2 after the decimal point) - of 4.5 and 4.75s. It's closer to the original value (4.65) and thus has less noise.
You can make this process more visible by increasing output bitdepth starting from minimal value - the higher the value the lower the noise, but with each step the difference is smaller (even after 6 bit it might be very hard to see).

No, still set it to RGB. madVR still converts to RGB, so all you would be doing is adding an additional color space conversion.
