@ Madshi & Manni

I didnt follow this thread for a while,
Was the issue with JVC projector going magenta in HDR ever been fixed with the latest Madvr / ndidia version ?

So tired of using Movies and Tv app , it doesnt let me switch to another audio track.

thank you, sorry for my english

those with zero drops are you on the latest creators fall update?, if so what are your madvr rendering settings set to, which are ticked?

can someone screen shot with contrl J so we can see your settings and rendering times etc.

I'm on windows 7 x64 ;)

so what can I try to avoid dropped frames? switch to windows7? :D
I don't understand how can drop frame with only 2gb vram and 30% gpu in use

with uhd movie?

I don't have 4k equipment, and I won't get one. I don't like 4K.

Try with 1080p material, then with 4k.

could be issue with programs running in the background like GPU-Z fraps and stuff like this.

"sharex" looks like it is doing alot and that is not a what i understand as nothing is running in the background.

I don't think the chance for video frame drops as a result of "fishy" hardware is very high, much more likely you have some software issue. Could even be a Windows 10 bug.

If you get dropped frames with ReClock it's definitely some background software hogging resources, or your madVR settings are very slightly too high.

I personally dont think you'll get rid of frame drops with NVIDIA cards at the moment, I chucked everything at at and moved back to AMD, I now only get frame drops on 3D MVC stuff but thats because its not hardware accelerated, all done on the CPU - using reclock 1.9.0.0

I also only use 1080p24 & 2160p24 modes, never 23p

I have no dropped frames with my 1080ti for at least 50mn with a MadVR custom resolution (vs 5mn without), both in 1080p23 and 4K23. Using config in sig. I get a few frame drops in 1080p23FP for 3D, but at least it works 100% of the time (using a batch file to init the 3D before playback), while with AMD it was a lottery.

Yes, I solved it using a profile to NOT use HDR passthrough with 4K60p. There is no problem with lower FPS content. This is not a MadVR issue, it's a driver/OS issue with the JVCs.

As we're stuck for now with 385.xx I have no idea if that aspect is corrected in more recent versions of the OS/GPU driver. I'll find out when MS forces Fall Creators Update on me. At which point, I might go back to Windows 8.1 if it's not possible to get a stable combo of OS/GPU drivers for SDR and HDR. Not really using my HTPC for HDR yet though, so I might be able to live with this for a while.

Go to Nvidia and create a custom 24HZ resolution. I'm currently not using madvr's custom resolutions. Use the following settings for 1080p content. https://imgur.com/a/HmVXx

Now in madvr make sure to use display mode 1080p23 NOT 1080p24 to activate the custom resolution you created.

I'm using windows 10, latest creators update installed. I have no frame drops with 24, 25, 30, 59 or 60 fps, however I do not own a 4k display. I'm still happy with my Panasonic VT plasma TV.

I'm even using exclusive mode ;). Just turn the game bar off in windows

My current rendering settings https://imgur.com/a/uYPxT

It can be done!

I have everything unchecked in "trade quality for performance" menu

Let madVR decide will never switch to NNEDI3 if you haven't selected it. In your bug report there were 2 crashes. One was not clear. The other one pointed to a crash in the Nvidia OpenCL driver. madVR uses OpenCL only for NNEDI3, so my conclusion was that you probably used NNEDI3. Please check the OSD (Ctrl+J) to confirm that NNEDI3 is really not used, neither in chroma upscaling nor image upscaling. If you're really not using NNEDI3, then I'm at a loss why the Nvidia OpenCL driver crashed!

madshi, just wanted to let you know that I found the culprit, it was in the dithering options. With Error Diffusion 1 and 2 madVR keeps crashing if I move the seek bar pointer, while with ordered dithering it never happens.
Also I have noticed that since I switch to ordered dithering my GPU fan is not noisy anymore, does Error Diffusion use a lots of power?

Yes, error diffusion uses a lot more GPU power than ordered (and it is the only thing in madVR that uses DirectCompute).

hi guys,

when playing hdr content my external .srt and .ass subtitles look blindingly bright while embedded bluray subs looks fine. tried to lower sub renderer primary colors but it have no effect with hdr files.
any idea guys?

Rendering settings are currently at D3D11 full screen window, superxbr for Chroma when displaying 1080p content, NGU-AA when upscaling.

Hello Asmodian,

What does your computer set up to run Madvr look like?

I just bought then LG OLED55B7V and started using your settings.bin file, but had to drop many of the settings just be able to run it.

I will be buying a new computer just to run Madvr, so I figure I'd maybe just copy yours since we have almost the same TV and I am running your settings for Madvr. :thanks:

well I was asking those who are on the update, thats why yours is fine, mine was stable until I hit the update but broke again when I removed the update. It was fine again when I did a fresh install but broken again when I collected the update for the second time so we know these issue are all caused by the update.

I still cant get rid of dropped frames every 40 seconds unless I use reclock, i'm dubious about anyone who now says that arent having any issues with the fall update with drops / repeats as this is so well documented.

What would be the recommended settings for upscaling 720p and 1080p, respectively, to a 4K TV using the GT740?

(I will be buying a new card next year when I can afford it).

And, would it be better to upscale 720p to 1080p with Madvr and then on to 4K all the way with the TV or do it all the way from 720p to 4K with Madvr?

And, would it be better to upscale 720p to 1080p with Madvr and then on to 4K all the way with the TV or do it all the way from 720p to 4K with Madvr?

In my experience, madVR upscaling, is always superior to 4k TV upscaling, so, having madVR, upscale, 720p, to 4k, will result in the best possible image. Saying this, I recommend, that you upscale, 720p, to 1080p, with madVR & let your TV, do the rest, until you upgrade your GPU. MadVR, will either, upscale 720p, twice, or direct x4 (both, to 2880p!) & then, downscale, to 2160p. This can be quite GPU intensive. You can also, try to upscale, to 1440p, with madVR & see if your GPU, can handle the load & if the images, look better, to you. I do not think, that madVR, can upscale, 720p, to 4k, with your GPU, although I am not certain. You can always try it.

I will be buying a new computer just to run Madvr, so I figure I'd maybe just copy yours since we have almost the same TV and I am running your settings for Madvr. :thanks:

My system is not one to copy. :o

I am running a 7900X at 4.8 GHz, DDR4 4000, Titan X (Pascal), Intel 900p. Everything hot has custom water cooling. It does run madVR very well but something a lot cheaper would run it just as well.

I see. Over on Avforums.com I was give the exact opposite advice:

"@SirSwede as I said previously, for 720p an UHD model is fine and given its only £200 extra or so I would get the UHD model.

Its when you dip lower than that really that resolution wise that the UHD models are poor.

720p may look a little better on the A7 but a lot depends on the source quality..there can be good and bad encoding's...compression type...bit rate etc.

Btw I would consider also a GPU upgrade to a model with HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 also. Then you can let MadVR upscale all the way to UHD and it will likely do a better job than the TV. What you don't want to be doing is sending 1080p to an UHD model and having two steps of upscaling."

Unless, you cannot upscale, 720p, to 4k, in one step, with madVR! In that case, madVR, to 1080p + TV, the rest of the way, is your only option & it is not a bad option, at that. I do not know, what your GPU, is capable of. I had a GTX1050 & it had issues, upscaling, 720p, with madVR, to 2160p. I have a GTX1070, now & it can upscale, anything, to 4k, although, not with the very highest settings. Fantastic images. A GTX1050ti, GTX1060 (6gb), GTX1070, etc., should provide, very, very good images, upscaling, 720p to 2160p, with madVR. There is some loss of quality, upscaling, 720p to 1080p, with madVR & then, letting the TV, upscale, to 4k. Still, a lot better than, not using madVR, at all.

I saw your video, do your render queues always drop regardless of file type? Are you playing back the file locally?
What's your CPU usage like? Have you tried any other media players with madVR?

its is windows i've already proved that. fine before update, did a fresh install up to pro fall no problems, installed update again, broken again, there is no doubt in my mine fall update has broken something as well as FSE which is a known issue.

I know this for sure with amd card, cant speak for nvidia but I cant see these being any better as historically amd are better and htpc duties.

As it currently stands I have zero frame drops now, i am using reclock, if I disable reclock they come back.

The only area i cant fix is 3D MVC, I think this is because decode is done on CPU as its not hardware accelerated on AMD gpus. Now why reclock doesnt fix it when i'm not using hardware decode is not something I have a clue about but these isue must be connected.

side note, latest KODI DS deals with some of the black screen issues people were getting on fall update, if this is your player of choice.

Not exactly, you proved updating Windows causes the issues, not that Windows itself causes the issues. Plenty of us running 1709 without issues man.

sorry but my english s**k lol i'm not sure about what are you asking. I tried only mkv files, 720/1080 work fine, 4k drop. yes, locally from hdd, tried also from ssd, still drop
cpu is low, you can check 1 (https://imgur.com/a/EauKF) - 2 (https://imgur.com/a/gA3tg), screen before-after drop, cpu 20%
no, only mpc-hc. other valid media player?

Have you tried mpc-hc 64 bit ? You can also try mpc-be, I prefer mpc-hc. If you are using reclock then you won't be able to use it with a 64bit player .

Did you enable windowed mode when you disabled FSE? It normally drops a few frames when pausing or minimizing the player. Did you see any issues with your eyes? You can try reclock if you like, it cannot hurt.

FSE is a bust with the latest Windows 10, just use windowed mode you won't tell the difference.
Actually FSE seems fine here on my HD 4000 and GTX 960 too. First thing I'd do is use DDU remove the graphics driver and reinstall.
Again just make sure your settings are default and work from there. Why use reclock when you can just optimize the display refresh?

Regarding your reclock settings they seem fine, except untick "time stretching".

Or "disable fullscreen optimizations" in the Windows compatibility settings of the player.

Oh! Wow! Yeah, you're right about that.

How would this system - Modell: G11CD-K-NR0115T. Operativsystem: Windows 10 Home. Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-7400. Grafik: NVIDIA® GeForce GTX1070 8GBGDDR5. RAM: 4 GB DDR4•2 (8 GB totalt). Lagring: 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Optisk enhet: SuperMulti DVD RW. Network: Intel Gigabit Ethernet 802.11ac Wi-Fi - do in terms of upscaling 720p and 1080p, 23-60 fps, with your settings to a TV like an LG 4K OLED?

All these people saying they have no issues, none of your are stating your setup or specs so there's nothing for people to gain from your claims, I am convinced that this combination will have problems, I can’t speak for any others.

2D / 3D MVC framepacked playback:

- Windows 10 creators Fall update
- Desktop resolution 2160p 60hz
- AMD RX based graphics card (required for 4k output)
- Latest MADVR / LAV filters / ADM drivers
Issues:
40 second frame drops or repeats regardless of what settings are employed or versions of ATI drivers, LAV, MADVR used.
Workaround: - deploy reclock.for 2D, 3D cant be fixed.

If you have the exact same setup as above please let us all know how you’ve managed to fix this, we genuinely want to know !!!

3D doesn't support UHD so that's the first thing to check because windows is doing some crazy scaling thingys these days.
and be aware that a combination of UHD and 3d capable TVs is already rare.

Frame drops/repeats that happen because the refreshrate differs from the video framerate must be fixed by adjusting the refreshrate (or by using smootmotion or reclock). That is a totally different problem than drops that are caused by performance issues, or Windows acting strangely.

MVC 3D doesnt no, I dont actually use MADVR to upscale 1080p to 4k anyway, I let my TV do that, I just use it for upscaling sub 1080p videos - I have 1080p modes set in MADVR for 3D movies and the play fine but I cant correct the frame drops - which werent there before the creators update using exactly the same settings - I didnt even have to use reclock before the update.

I ended up installing the more recent Nvidia Drivers so I can play Call of Duty WW2 in HDR. but now I do need to toggle the HDR windows switch a lot(every time I want to play and every time I exit an HDR movie)

Now I could live with it if it wasen't for it short reset time of 15 seconds. My projector take like 14 seconds to sync so I miss the accept button 3 time out of 4... very anoying...

Does anyone know if there is a way to increase this timer ? in the registry maybe ? I've search for like an hour an could find anything.

720P NOW UPSCALED TO 2160P WITH MADVR: THANKS HUHN & ASMODIAN

Samsung KU7500 (65" curved 4k). Anime, really "pops", on this TV. I sit, about 7', from the screen. I like plenty of extra sharpening, with 720p anime: switch to 2560x1440p23, NGU AA or Sharp/very high chroma & luma, plenty of image enhancements & upscaling refinement, any strength RCA/high as needed. Images, look better to me, than with, switch to: 2160p23, with lower madVR settings (increased blurriness, upscaling 720p to 2160p, directly, with madVR, or just, TV, of course: not enough sharpening available, often, even with lowering, other madVR enhancements). 1440p, looks better than 1080p, on this TV. These settings are only for 720p anime! I prefer 720p anime vs 1080p (upscaled), because it has fewer noise & compression artifacts (because it is not upscaled). 1080P ANIME & ALL NON-ANIME: SWITCH TO 2160P. On my TV, with my 720p anime, upscaling twice (madVR to 1440p & TV to 2160), images look better, to me. I have tested this & do not agree, that using "native resolution", is ALWAYS BEST.

If, RCA High, was "free" (with NGU Sharp), switch to: 2160p, "might", look a little better, than 1440p (720p anime). Higher strength, than available, 4.0, "sharpen edges", would help (especially, in upscale refinements). "Other" software, does not have madVR-quality, anti-ringing/anti-bloating, to use their, edge sharpening shaders.

720P NOW UPSCALED WITH MADVR TO 2160P: THANKS HUHN & ASMODIAN

Yes & I use native resolution, for everything, with the exception, of 720p anime, regardless of the need for lower luma settings. Difference, seems to be, more compression artifacts + less sharp, upscaled, with madVR, to 2160p vs 1440p. I think, GTX1070 + KU7500 + 720p anime, looks better, at 1440p. NGU Sharp, increases artifacts (a lot), upscaling, to 2160p & without NGU Sharp, images are too blurry (for me). The difference, between 1440p & 2160p, is mostly, very subtle. 720p anime, without any compression artifacts, would probably, look better, at native resolution. My anime, is average to very good & always has, compression artifacts. I can see major differences, as far as artifacts, in 1440p vs 2160p.

720p NOW UPSCALED TO 2160P WITH MADVR: THANKS TO HELP FROM HUHN & ASMODIAN
THE FOLLOWING IS NO LONGER VALID:

I never enable supersampling.
2160p vs 1440p: 35+ vs 30+ rendertime
reduce ringing artifacts (no vs yes or no)
RCA (medium vs high)
chroma upscaling (Bicubic AR vs NGU AA/Sharp very high)
image upscaling (NGU Sharp/high + medium vs very high)
Seems like significantly lower settings.
2160p: more artifacts + less sharp.
I appreciate your help. I am interested in using native resolution, if it results in equal, or improved images. I can see, that native resolution, results in "cleaner" lines, although, this is easily compensated for, at 1440p, with sharpening. Having to go back & forth, between, "change to: 1440p23 vs 2160p23", is ridiculous, although I watch, mostly, 720p anime. Future “free” RCA, with NGU Sharp, will help.

If supersampling, is not activated, via image upscaling, then, how do I turn it off? 720p to 2160p: double, twice or x4, to 2880p & then, downscale, to 2160p. 720p to 1440p: double, once, to 1440p & then the TV, upscales, to 2160p.
