MPC external audio works only with AC3, in my experience.

it works fine w/ HR, w/ anything you'd throw at it(FLAC/DTS/AC3/etc..) but mVR doesn't close properly for me, I always get a DrWatson error msg in the XP event viewer complaining that mVR crashed KMP.
Apparently, I'm not the only one...and mVR is still very much in beta stage, so this has to be expected http://forum.slysoft.com/images/smilies/agreed.gif

Must have something to do with KMP. I am using madVR 11 in MPC-HC on XPSP3 and I have no problems as you describe.

when I close KMP, I get a DrWatson error msg in the XP SP3 event viewer stating that KMP crashed because of madVR: "KMP generated an application error. The generated exception was c0000005 at the adress 0610D227 (madVR)"

this doesn't happen w/ HR...same problem seems to occur in other players: https://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1331002&postcount=1629

I might indeed try 0.9 to double-check...maybe it's working in MPC HC, but there are other players around ;)

ah, madshi...I didn't realize you were so prolific on AVS: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=802850

that sure would explain why a friend of mine keeps telling me that his Sanyo Z4 is smoother than any DLP(w/ mVR+Reclock) :)

I've never been able to stand tLCD because of all the technology drawbacks(vertical banding, shading, misconvergence, etc)....but I can't seem to see MDA on my HC3100?! but well this thread seems to confirm that MDA are not a big issue on the DDP3020/DarkChip3 combo.

anyway, it's not so bad that KMP cannot close mVR properly, at least it kills the player when the movie is over...rather handy actually! the only annoying part is that it doesn't allow opening an external audio file.

How to subtitles in madVR?
Can't get any in madVR while VMR9/EVR custom works fine, I have Vista but same thing on friends WinXP.
Any additional steps I need to take if not using VMR9/EVR?

You can't use the MPC subtitle renderer with madVR, you need to use directvobsub.

You can't use the MPC subtitle renderer with madVR, you need to use directvobsub.

Yes, you're right. But even with directvobsub, you can't have the subtitle "embedded" in the BD using the m2ts internal MPC-HC splitter. And for the text subs (like srt, ass,...) you loose the override placement functionality which are really useful (for me at least).

So directvobsub is a good temporary solution but have the subtitles pins in madVR seems the only good option to make madVR really the greatest renderer.

Right, that's why some posts back I myself was asking about the possibility to use the internal sub renderer with madVR.

Right, that's why some posts back I myself was asking about the possibility to use the internal sub renderer with madVR.

And in some more posts back I ask once and answer this question myself twice. I won't blame you though, it's pretty hard to dig when the topic become somewhat this big. Anyway, madshi said that subtitle support is middle priority, after smooth playback. That's the last of what I heard about it.

I thought it sounds a little offendsive to say "And in some more posts back I ask once and answer this question myself twice.", which should be equivalent to :search:. So I mean "I don't blame you for not be able to find it". But please don't mind me. Sometimes my understanding is off. As you can guess, English is not my native language.

No problem but I think you misunderstood my post. I was just agreeing with the other poster, not asking a question myself.

This delay is not the same between videos. I can add delay in ffdshow or MPC but it's easier to use 50 or 60Hz and not perceive this delay.
did you try w/ other video renderers? coz I just had the strangest thing, for some reason audio had some major skew on my system?! it wasn't a delay, the sync was just going on and off constantly..in whatever mVR or VMR9. strange world :o

anyway, I've rolled back the KMP/ffdshow/Reclock settings to my .reg backups from last week...and presto, all in sync again!

I still don't get any dropped frames in 2H movies at 48.000Hz w/ Reclock/HMS/KMP/ffdshow A/V on XP SP3...and that's using a 3DLUT of course(copied on a ramdisk).
now all we'd need is subs support, and we'd be good to go http://forum-images.hardware.fr/images/perso/kimouss.gif

I still have drops ! :p
Not a lot, but sometimes, less than 10 by movie.
Edit : I use reclock at 50.000Hz for movies in 23.976, maybe a way of explanation.

Well, I have an other problem.
When I use levels in ffdshow for mapping 16-235 to 0-255, I have my black strips at level 16 instead of 0 in 2.35 movies :

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/6470/clip61.png

If I put 0-255 on madVR, there is twice mapping.
I don't understand.

Umm..don't map in ffdshow?

Also, madshi has labled his output setting backwards compared to everyone else. Or, as he points out, and I agree, everyone else has theirs labled backwards.

So try the other setting in madVR.

For now, it means your video card doesn't have all the features that MadVR requires to run. What video card and what operating system?

The problem with Intel GPUs is that they don't support custom texture sizes. It would be possible for madVR to work around that, and I might do that sooner or later. But even then I'm not sure if these GPUs are fast enough for smooth playback with madVR...

And that's pretty much it for now.

Madshi, maybe the one with a Intel GPUs only want to watch SD videos instead of HD ones. So I guess it's quite necessary to make mVR work with those GPUs that have a large number of owners.

Anyone else have problems with aspect ratios? I'm using ffdshow as decoder, set to send AR info to next filter and MPCHC build 1.3.1290.0 under Windows 7.

If you watch SD content, just stick with any of the default renderers (VMR9, EVR, Overlay). The content will look equally bad on any of those.

T_T Don't say that, it's a different story when you're upscaling 704x396 ->1920x1080. Of course not to say that an Intel GPU does or doesn't have the grunt to push that with MadVR..

Also, madshi has labled his output setting backwards compared to everyone else. Or, as he points out, and I agree, everyone else has theirs labled backwards.

So try the other setting in madVR.

I know I can do that, but levels in ffdshow are automatically adapted to the blackest black and it is very usefull.
(and the whitest white).
Edit : Fixed !!! It was a problem with the 3Dlut !
Don't remember when I made it, but grey strips are gone now ! :)

thanks for the update, i tried the new version on my mac with 9400, there's some weird problems like the video won't start unless i change the focus to another window and click back into mpc lol, was really weird when it happened, and choppy performance at 24hz, using coreavc with cuda. By the way version 0.09 plays perfect with cuda and 24hz ;)

Hi guys, i have this problem using madVR and mkv files.
Basically i can't move forward. If i click on the progress bar to go trought the movie it hangs and i've to close mpc-hc using TaskManager.
This usually happens the first time i click but sometimes im able to "jump" twice then it will hangs anyway.
Im using last mpc-hc build and madVR 0.11 with ffdshow with ffmpeg-mt for x264 decode and subtitles. Is there a better configuration ?
Anyway if i use EVR with CP i haven't any problem and all works as it should. My videocard is ATI HD3870.

Thx

I cannot offer any explanation as to why it freezes, I used to have the same problem when I was using a Radeon HD3450 with Windows XP Pro 64bit.
I think the problem disappeared when I installed my 9600GT and installed 7, I'm now running with a HD4850 and don't have any issues.

try different players maybe? ZP or KMP? KMP has many options for seeking, you could troubleshoot:

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/1276/kmpm.th.png (http://img27.imageshack.us/i/kmpm.png/)

for instance checking "accelerate search speed" gave garbage w/ the earlier version of CoreAVC CUDA when seeking.

Can anyone get madVR to work with DVDs? Everything works fine for me except DVD sources using any DVD navigator (Well.. CyberLink, Nero, Windows built-in)

VOB works just fine..

I get no video and stuttering audio..

This has been the case with every version of ffdshow and MPC-HC I've ever used. On both my computers.

The hardware is an ATI 4850 on one, ATI 4550 on the other, with 9.9 drivers.

Edit - Oh and XP SP3.. and ffdshow is feeding madVR YV12:

Filter : madVR - CLSID : {E1A8B82A-32CE-4B0D-BE0D-AA68C772E423}

No, it doesn[t work for DVDs. It's missing the sub-picture pin input or something for subtitles.

The solution is: Don't watch DVDs! HD all the way baby!

thats bullshit!!!

just try to resize you DVD to something like 1280x720p with ffdshow, it should work.
for me it is working that way, it's mostly my PAL DVDs i have to resize, NTSC ones i dont have to most of the time.
the only problem i have on my win7 64 and 32 bit, sometimes the screen goes black after a while of playing the DVD, and i have to "hard reset" my pc :(

oh and this renderer is just perfect for SD content, better than any other.
i just hope madshi finds a way to let us people with alot of DVDs (like me), play those DVDs without resizing them with something like ffdshow.
i mean it's ok to resize them but madvr will then use the wrong *.3dlut file (in this case the HD one).

just my 2cents
oh and sorry for my english.

edit: oh and for subtitles just use ffdshow or vsfilter, i tried them both mostly because i'm into asian cinema with original audio and english/german subtitles.

Can I add that you notice a good upscaling algorithm a lot more when resizing low res -> high vs medium res -> high.

I did some tests on different scalers when resizing 720->1080 and it was very hard to tell the difference while even pixel peeping, so you could make a case that the extra processing needed by a good algorithm is unnecessary.

However it is very obvious when resizing 360->1080 that a good algorithm provides a much sharper picture and is definitely worth the processing.

And obviously if you are watching content in your destination res (say, 1080) you don't need to scale...

I also use ffdshow to resize + HQ colour + reclock + gothsync mpc, I have various probs with madVR so haven't adopted it so far.

haha avisynth and colormatrix plugin used in/with ffdshow, haven't thought about this combination.
thank you leeperry for pointing in this direction.

You can also create a 3DLUT for converting between YCbCr BT.601 to YCbCr BT.709 and use it with t3dlut in ffdshow. It will be more accurate (slightly) than using colormatrix.

@yesgrey3

i tryed and tryed but cant get it to work with t3dlut and the *.3dlut files, i've deleted all the created *.3dlut files and wanted to start over but thought i'll ask you for help(hope thats ok).

i have a plain/virgin *.txt file and have to put in some things from the "cr3dlut_ReadMe_Full.txt" like "Input_Primaries" and such, my question is what do i have to put in there for the "YCbCr BT.601 -> YCbCr BT.709" color space conversion?
what does the *.txt file has to look like for it to work?

i hope you can understand what i'm trying to say, in my somewhat limited english.

btw: like i sayd i already use a custom *.3dlut file with madVR(if this is relevant).

i realy want to try this aproach, to see the differnce between this and the ColorMatrix plugin.

thanks for your time.

Damn.. thanks for that. Kinda sucks though having to go into MPC-HC settings and change the video renderer when you want to play a DVD.. so I think I'll just skip the whole madVR thing.

Well, I could be wrong - but it doesn't work with DVDs for me (neither does Haali). I'm on Vista.

But, Zoomplayer allows you to configure DVDs and media files differently.

I can tell you what to put in there to create that file, but it would be preferable for you to use a batch file to rename the SD 3dlut files in madVR directory as HD files, and another one to revert it. Then, simply by clicking the files, you could set up the correct 3DLUTs. It would be more accurate.;)
I've done something similar to switch 3DLUTs accordingly the display I'm using. Here is how it should look like in your case:

@echo off
rem Set SD 3DLUT files as HD
ren "hd - pc.3dlut" "keephd - pc.3dlut"
ren "hd - video.3dlut" "keephd - video.3dlut"
ren "sd - pc.3dlut" "hd - pc.3dlut"
ren "sd - video.3dlut" "hd - video.3dlut"

and

@echo off
rem Restore HD 3DLUT files
ren "hd - pc.3dlut" "sd - pc.3dlut"
ren "hd - video.3dlut" "sd - video.3dlut"
ren "keephd - pc.3dlut" "hd - pc.3dlut"
ren "keephd - video.3dlut" "hd - video.3dlut"

i hope you can understand what i'm trying to say, in my somewhat limited english.

well OK, but did you run some comparisons on Rec.601 test patterns between ColorMatrix() and a 601>709 LUT from cr3dlut?

IMHO the whole point of ColorMatrix() is that you can put it in a "SD" ffdshow profile, and it'll all be automatic...besides "opt=0" is supposed to be quite accurate ;)

No. I've asked tritical about it and he confirmed that using t3dlut with a 3DLUT file should be slightly more accurate.

Here is the file to create a 3DLUT for 601>709:
# Example input file for cr3dlut v2.2 and up
#
# Settings for creating a 3D LUT for Y'CbCr (BT.601) -> Y'CbCr (BT.709)
#

# Set input bitdepth
Input_Bit_Depth 8

# Set source video format
Input_Video_Format HD YCbCr
Input_YCbCr_Matrix 3

# Set output bitdepth
Output_Bit_Depth 16

# Set display video format
Output_Video_Format HD YCbCr

Change the output bit depth to your desire, although it should be better to use 16bit and activate dither in t3dlut.

ok cool! I'll run comparisons ASAP between ColorMatrix() and this LUT w/ rgb3dlut and t3dlut(rgb3dlut is much faster than t3dlut)

I think rgb3dlut only supports RGB output. YCbCr output was added only with t3dlut, I suppose, hence the name difference.;)

indeed :p

but t3dlut is very CPU consuming IIRC, ColorMatrix is OK ;)

fuzz, mpc-hc has an option to move all settings to an ini file.
1) Create 2 directories, each with their own copy of mpc-hc, each with their own ini.
2) In the first, set up madVR and under options/formats modify the associations for all video except "DVD file (vob ifo)" and de-select Autoplay of DVD. Not this copy will run for everything except DVDs.
3) Exit mpc-hc
4) In the other directory, rename mpc-hc.exe to mpc-hc-dvd.exe and set it up for dvds, using a different renderer of your choice.
5) Under options/formats modify the associations, select on "DVD file (vob ifo)" and Autoplay DVD.

Voila! Now, you can do other tweaks to the dvd version also, like decoding with ffdshow which allows better upscaling options.

The caveat is that if you are in the regular (non-dvd) mpc-hc.exe, don't open a dvd from within the program.

so....there's still that strange bar right in the middle of the green levels, something's not set properly in ColorMatrix? like chroma alignment? we had the same exact problem when I was trying to get the same colors as the PS script through a LUT :o
