I hope madshi has time to read this thread occasionally, to log these bug reports.
Have you switched to a different render, like overlay?hm, it looks the same with overlay, but its fine with haali and evr.
ot - btw, do you like the new vlc?dunno, I never really use it to watch anything.

So, just forget my replys about cr3dlut, I was replying to Matthias Hutter.;)
About your AR problems, sorry, but I can't help you...

There is no defaults in cr3dlut, so, please let me know what have you used. Can you also post an image of what's happenning?
If I don't specify Chromatic_Adaptation or set Chromatic_Adaptation 2 (Readme says "Use Bradford Transform"), then the colour problems occur.
With the third option (Kries model), the problem doesn't exists, but there is quite much banding. The problematic 3dlut parameters are as follows:
Input_Bit_Depth 8
Input_Video_Format HD YCbCr
Output_Bit_Depth 16
Output_Video_Format HD RGB_PC
Chromatic_Adaptation 2
Output_Primaries 9 0.667 0.333 0.159 0.704 0.150 0.051 0.333 0.3470.333 0.347

Matthias,
You forgot to tell me which cr3dlut version you are using. The v2.1 had a problem similar to this that was fixed in v2.2.
Can you please verify it?
Matthias Hutter
28th July 2009, 10:40
@yesgrey3 Yeah, I was using 2.1 - didn't know there was a newer version, i just used the one shipped with madVR 0.10
The Problem seems fixed now - I need further testing though.
Regards, Matthias

Yes, madshi has been out for a while. I've released v2.2 just to fix that problem (someone else has also reported it), but since it was after madVR 0.10, it does not contain it. People who uses cr3dlut should get v2.2 instead of using the version shipped with madVR 0.10.;)

Yeah, your right. A new bug-fixing madVR release would also be very nice.
Thanks! :)

Hi to all,
How can I resolve this problem?
obviously I had leaved all the MadVr settings to default.
Thank you so much,
actarus.
P.S. This render is spectacular with the "color gradients" !

Hi, I've been pleased with the performance of madVR 0.10 until yesterday. I haven't used madVR in few days and now it doesn't work at all. MPC-HC just hangs when I try to watch movies with it. Uninstalling and re-installing madVR didn't solve the problem.
I have only installed one new game (came with new version of directX) during the time of working and nonworking madVR.
So any ideas what is going on?

It could be due to that new version of DirectX...

DVD playback quality and issues do not seem madVR's current top priority tasks to be optimized or addressed according to Madshi. Has it been changed?
To me the PureVideo MPEG2 video decoder + VMR9 still produces the best visual quality for DVD / interlaced contents. (upscaled and output as 1080p60 via HDMI to TV)
I think it would require a lot of efforts to make madVR to have the similar visual quality output for such types of video contents. (Pixel-adaptive deinterlace, de-ring, deblocking, Noise-reduction, contrast / edge-enhancement...)

If God could do that, then he would have only taken 4 1/2 days to create the world and rest on the 5th day. ;)
Hopefully, the economy improves, and rumors of triple-digit inflation are untrue.

Since yesgrey3 has said that cr3dlut may soon support display profiles to get perfect greyscale & gamma and because my geforce 9400 can only get 100% smooth playback when using bilinear scaling and no 3DLUT (still looks better than anything else though) what graphics cards could cope with this?
I need something with HDMI out and lossless 7.1 PCM. I think ATI's cards only do SPDIF passthru.

Considering the ATI graphics drivers install their own HDMI audio device I'd doubt SPDIF is involved...

If you have a daytime job, that will be difficult. If not, use Google. You can actually create a little more time per week by using a 30 hour day, instead of 24. Saves you a few hours of sleep per week.

Looks like i didnt need to get this 9400 motherboard then if all ati 4xxx boards do proper hdmi sound, what a pain.
What is fast enough for madvr using the most taxing filters and 3dlut though? 1gb 4870 seems good for the money, but I dont know if it is or if its way too powerful?

FYI, my ATI 4850 does a fine job with madVR and 3Dlut enabled so you really don't need to spend too much money.

Probably, even the 4670 would do the job nicelly... Anyone with one can confirm it? I have bought one to a friend, but the cpu is too weak to use it for decoding (P4 3G), so I cannot confirm it...

DXVA is so 80's!Ofcourse i have, the first post states that madshi will not try to support DXVA, but that doesn't exclude the rest of the world from adding it.
A proof of concept test for this has already been written and sent to madshi(but that still does not mean its going to work in the end)

Don't be so harsh on DXVA. It's still the best deinterlace engine available to PC. No software deinterlacer can even come close to the hardware ones integrated in modern video cards. And most live TV is interlaced both 50 and 60 Hz ones both SD and HD.

You can use hardware deinterlacers without DXVA, with the exact same results. Just output NV12 to the renderer and set the interlace flag.

both
To be more precise it has the best quality and at the same time it uses no CPU cycles to do it. If only it had a decent scaler it would be great. Sadly that's not the case and madshi had to step in but he focuses on progressive content so we are out of luck ... for now.
I think in theory it's possible to use the video card hardware deinterlacer (through NVIDIA's CUDA or ATI's solution ... if it ever comes) and then use the deinterlaced frame in madVR ... though I might be totally wrong here ... anybody who can clear this up?
mr.duck
15th August 2009, 21:21
I really want deinterlacing. At least 95% of what I watch is interlaced. Good deinterlacing really makes a difference in terms of picture quality.
I really hope madVR will support it one day... just say it will be possible one day. In a few months or more but sooner than that I hope.
AFAIK, madVR doesnt do deinterlacing because the video has more in common with a computer game than video playback from the graphics card's point of view. So it doesn't know to deinterlace it.
How about using openCL or the M$ version for deinterlacing? Then madVR will have total control over quality even if you card is ATI or nVidia. You will need DX10 shaders for that tho.
mr.duck
15th August 2009, 21:35
Oh and about DXVA... it is worth using because even tho you can easily decode HD h264 in software these days, using DXVA you will have lower power consumption because the CPU can stay clocked down. These days CPUs use somthing like 15w at idle. Makes the option to build a fanless system without having to use nvidia ION or other overpriced and under powered system.
I must add DXVA is pretty rubbish because of the limitations like only using specific renderers like EVA and not allowed to have FFDShow in place etc. But it's the best we have at the moment. Core AVC with CUDA is the only decoder I know of that can use the GFX card for decoding assistance without the DXVA limitations. But there is no reason why you cant have every single format decoded by the GPU (ATI or nVidia like with openCL decoders) and then feed to madVR in it's current state. madVR won't mind if the video has been decoded using CPU horsepower or GPU horsepower. That is just in theory. In practice no one has made openCL or similar decoders that I know of.

But his comment wasn't about madVR. If you want to use hardware deinterlacing, the YUV --> RGB conversion will also be done by the GPU drivers, and avoiding this is the whole point of madVR. So hardware deinterlacers and madVR are two incompatible things.

This is getting a bit away from the madVR discussion.
But aftrer realising the DXVA support in madVR was most unlikely I investigated some other alternatives.
I've ended up using MPC-HC with EVR Custom, ffdshow and an AViSynth script that uses the t3dlut funciton for color correction and outputing to NV12 to a 4650 ATI card along with reclock.
This works fine for output of DVD interlaced content, etc, but LiveTV is not really possible as ffdshow still seems to get confused.
