did you change the power settings back to adaptive.
you have to change this with every driver it is simply like that.
Seems to have solved it thanks. I guess they recently added the optimal power default setting, because it wasn't there before.
huhn

they change the power setting from adaptive to "optimal" about 6 month ago.
and it is not rare that a driver update reset this option to optimal.
looks like it was doing it the first time for you.

300W - what GPU is that with ?
I think I measured about 110W (will check later) base unit - from the wall power meter NGU-High (Xeon 1225v3 + overclocked 1050 Ti)
GM204 GTX 970
i tested this heavily now for 4K nothing above Lanczos4 makes really sense here Realtime.
And Lanczos4 Performs also really well on Nvidias Shader Compiler, it shows really great and stable Render times and a visible improvement over Nvidias default DXVA.
So all in all it has a great overall Balance that really works out well :)
under 5ms most of the times super nice latency

Hi,
I would like to ask a question:
I've tried a 10bit pattern on madvr to understand if my tv supports 10bit output and seems it is.
Activating 10bit output in madvr produces a strange effect on 8bit videos, their colors become over-saturated (exclusive fullscreen 10bit), if i go to windows mode (8bit) they are ok.
The question is: is that normal ? it is not possible to play 8bit content correctly if output is set to 10bit ?
It happens both with mediaportalp and mpc-hc.
thank you for any answer.

that is bot normal and color saturation shouldn't change.
try a level test pattern judge from that result and stick to 8 bit.

a greeting to the forum,
Experts do you advise me to create the 3d lut for madVR as calman calibration software or displaycal?
I did one with a xrite i1 on my benq w2000. It appears that a 3DLut on a DLP projector isn't more efficient than a regular calibraiton. In my case I couldn't see any color difference between 3DLut calibration and the factory REC709 calibration. So, in my case, I disabled my 3DLut profile in madvr, as it ate a bit of luminosity overall.

We are on a trend that mostly every avg Consumer Device now reaches REC 709 pre factory perfect, professional calibrators thus start to concentrate on P3 and above and even P3 is pretty nicely hit for a relatively nice price pre factory, great times ;)
Not only REC 709 Mastering quality reached AVG Consumer but also P3 is pretty fast on that way future content is dictating it it goes pretty fast now :)

thank you for the answer, but i don't understand what you are suggesting, i've wrote that I've already tested with gray bars if my tv is supporting 10bit, and they are correctly displayed in exclusive 10bit mode . the problem comes when i try to play any 8bit video (also the very old calibration video you liked above) in eclusive 10bit mode , i get over-saturated colors. If i switch to windowed 8bit mode colors became ok. Also seems that color&gamma proprieties are not applied by madvr, so recalibrate for 10 bit output is impossible. Could it be a issue of Amd Apu gpu driver ? or am i missing something else. Thank you for any help

Guys, I'm having problems with getting HDR to work.
I have an HDR capable TV (Panasonic dx780) and I have set madVR to passthrough HDR to my display but the colors are washed out and HDR mode isn't triggered.
I'm using HDR demos and they work when played through USB. What am I doing wrong?

As far as I know, you're not doing anything wrong.
You can't 'trigger' HDR mode as you say it from a PC (or MadVR can't yet). You need to manually tell your TV to enable HDR processing.
Written as someone who does not have an HDR tv so I'm not up to speed on all the latest HDR-developments.

Regarding this:
https://s28.postimg.org/sza1n838p/doubling_problem.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/sza1n838p/)
https://s28.postimg.org/sggcj2e95/doubling_problem2.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/sggcj2e95/)
when watched on 720p projector.
Do you have any of the black bar options enabled? maybe madVR is detecting a black bar of 1-2px at the bottom and zooming it away.
Ok. As madVR detect "touch windows from inside" try enable "disable scaling if image size changes" to some high value (and completely disable hard coded black bars detection to debug). And then try to view movie in natural size.
There are no black bars zoomed away and the "disable scaling if image size changes" setting only works if not doubling the movie.
In the meantime I have found out (I hope so) whatīs going on.
In madVRīs OSD the movies are shown as 640x360. In MPC HCīs movie properties within the mediainfo part they are shown as well as 640x360. But in properties - details part the movies are shown as 641x360 (movie of first screenshot) or 640x361 (second screenshot).
I think I canīt handle this problem with the given setting possibilities in madVR at the moment. I can crop the borders within madVR, but only ALL borders at the same time. So 641x360 -> 639x358 ; 640x361 -> 638x359. They are doubled then. 639x358 -> 1278x716 ; 638x359 -> 1276x718. And then scaled to 1280x720.
The "disable scaling if image size changes" of course works when displaying at 640x360 and no scaling at all. But this doesnīt work with first doubling and do further scaling afterwards.
Of course my hardware is a little bit oldschool being 720p, but the problem will be exactly the same when e.g doubling 1080p to 2160p and having movies with not exact 1920x1080.
Maybe I have overlooked a possibility within madVR, maybe "misusing" certain settings that arenīt originally intended for doing that...
So what would be needed is an option for cropping single borders. If I could crop the single line or the single additonal horizontal pixel before doubling, then everything would be fine...
Hannes.

READ the page you set madVr to "passthrough" HDR.
this question come about every 2 weeks and everything you need to know is written on the setting page.

the major difference between 8 bit and 10 bit madVR output is that the high bit deep data is dithered to 10 not 8 bit the rest is the same.
so the same gamma settings are applied same scaler same everything.
so what do you understand under "over-saturated colors".
AMD high bit deep output works totally fine and madVR isn't doing something special either. so this leave you with your TV. so what TV is that and be aware that nearly every TV out there even the HDR ones are 8 bit.

'washed out colors' is a cleartale sign of the wide-gamut colorspace of HDR content being interpreted as 'normal'. In other words, it's not interpreting the video signal correct and handling it as something it's not (like, it seems it's thinking it's a 'regular' bt709 signal while you're sending bt2020 data).
The thing is I don't have any option on my TV to manually enable HDR.
Doesn't change much about what is said, right? I think 99,99% of us are not using a PC to play HDR content, because there is no real support for HDR on PC yet (not in the video-api world). No standards to 'flag' the HDR data, so no support yet.

Hey guys,
I've found the source of my problem, i was using lav in native and not in copy-back, now (cb) it is possible to use color & gamma setting to adjust 10bit output mode.
Thank you now all is perfect ;)

So, it is better only OC the GPU and leave the original memory speed. Right?

Madshi, I'd like to be able to cycle through selected profiles using the same key combination.
This would make it easy to review during playback what profile may be viewed as best for the playing content without needing to remember various key combinations for each suitable profile.
Can you add support for this please?

Can someone clarify this for me please?
I play everything at 60Hz rather than 24Hz with my JVC X9000 proj. The reason you might ask is that have a film group and we screen mixed content, shorts, trailers etc before the feature. I set the 1080 video card to 60Hz as this way the horrible SLOW SYNC on the JVC is instant between shorts/trls.
I would like to run at 4K doubling, but each time I test I have issues even on low settings with any of the 30/60 material, I get skipped frames.
All other material is perfect 1080p etc when doubled, no problems at all, just 30/60 content I get skipped frames.
Is the problem due to me being on 60Hz rather than the normal that most would be using?
Can madvr not image double 30/60 fps material?
The image I have is out of this world so I can remain with everything upscaling to 1080p, but I just thought since many of the JVC forums are using 4K with madvr I too should.....
Interested in your thoughts???

Are you using profiles for different content (30 fps, 60 fps, etc.)? 30 fps material makes madVR work harder, so you need to have specific settings for that content alone.

Im not using profiles at all as I dont actually understand how they work.
As you know Warner I have to remain on 60Hz so the playlists I make up with mixed content 25/50/24/30/60 all sync instantly on my JVC X9000 proj.
So do profiles allow me to make a lower setting in image doubling just for the 30/60 content @60Hz. The all the rest (24/25/50 @60Hz) can have a higher setting in Image doubling?
If I can do that it would be fantastic!!!

If I run videos up scaled to 4K 60 Hz or 30Hz, dropped frames and the queues don't fill. If I run at 59 Hz and 29 Hz everything syncs and the queues fill. This is with a Nvidia GTX 1080. Try 59 Hz and 29 Hz and see if that helps.

Can I still just leave the card at 1080 rather than 4K?
You really need to read the link provided. It has all the answers.
Click on scaling algorithms. Create a new folder by selecting create profile group.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q760/Warner306/madVR%20Guide/Create-Profile-Group_zpsvywrclwf.png
Each profile group offers a choice of settings to include.
Select all items, and name the new folder "Scaling."
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q760/Warner306/madVR%20Guide/Profile-Checkboxes_zpshm81vzwl.png
Select the Scaling folder. Using add profile, create six profiles.
Name each profile: 1080p25, 1080p60, 720p25, 720p60, 540p25, 540p60.
Paste the code below into Scaling:
if (deintFps <= 25) and (srcWidth > 1280) "1080p25"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth <= 1280) and (srcHeight > 720)) "1080p25"
else if (deintFps > 25) and (srcWidth > 1280) "1080p60"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth <= 1280) and (srcHeight > 720)) "1080p60"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth > 960) and (srcWidth <= 1280)) "720p25"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth <= 960) and (srcHeight > 540) and (srcHeight <= 720)) "720p25"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth > 960) and (srcWidth <= 1280)) "720p60"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth <= 960) and (srcHeight > 540) and (srcHeight <= 720)) "720p60"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth <= 960) and (srcHeight <= 540)) "540p25"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth <= 960) and (srcHeight <= 540)) "540p60"
A green check mark should appear above the box to indicate the profiles are correctly named and no code conflicts exist.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q760/Warner306/madVR%20Guide/madVR-Control-Profile-Rules_zpstubyggsb.png
Additional profile groups must be created for processing and rendering.
Note: The use of six profiles may be unnecessary for other profile groups. For instance, if I wanted Image enhancements (under processing) to apply only to 1080p content, two folders would be required:
if (srcWidth > 1280) "1080p"
else if (srcWidth <= 1280) and (srcHeight > 720) "1080p"
else "Other"
Profiles for 2160p displays:
if (deintFps <= 25) and (srcWidth > 1920) "2160p25"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth <= 1920) and (srcHeight > 1080)) "2160p25"
else if (deintFps > 25) and (srcWidth > 1920) "2160p60"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth <= 1920) and (srcHeight > 1080)) "2160p60"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth > 1280) and (srcWidth <= 1920)) "1080p25"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth <= 1280) and (srcHeight > 720) and (srcHeight <= 1080)) "1080p25"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth > 1280) and (srcWidth <= 1920)) "1080p60"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth <= 1280) and (srcHeight > 720) and (srcHeight <= 1080)) "1080p60"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth > 960) and (srcWidth <= 1280)) "720p25"
else if (deintFps <= 25) and ((srcWidth <= 960) and (srcHeight > 540) and (srcHeight <= 720)) "720p25"
else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth > 960) and (srcWidth <= 1280)) "720p60"

else if (deintFps > 25) and ((srcWidth <= 960) and (srcHeight <= 540)) "540p60"
Change deintFps > 25 to whatever you deem necessary.

Thanks for that Warner, it certainly makes it easier to learn.
I will give it a go!
Can you tell me what uses more resources, 1080p @ 60 or 480 @ 60?

So you mean without using profiles?
You can set that up under "Display Modes" in Madvr.

The higher the resolution the more resources used.
At 4k... 1080p60 > 720p60 > 480p60

Also the higher the FPS the lower you're settings should be. 1080@30 you can use fairly high settings with most modern GPU's, 1080@60 and even a Titan X struggles when you start bumping up the settings.

Hello Madshi, is it possible to implement HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma/ARIB STD-B67) in your HDR to SDR conversion?
Here is one demo in HDR - HLG: http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=154

I'm experiencing strange issue with Madvr, a red vertical line, this happens fullscreen only with this movie, but with others i've it in th preview with MPC BE, if i disable Madvr red line disappears... what is causing the issue?

With this movie i'm experiencing lagging in the video, first time this happens with a movie. I'm on Intel i5-4590 and MSI R9 270X 2GB.
Any suggestion?
EDIT: Red line solved, problem was related to "Radeon Settings". I disabled 'Demo Mode' and problem solved, but why problem disappears if i disable Madvr too? Just curious...

1. Definitely, problem is inside streams ;)
2. AFAIK, ffdshow or avisynt will help
I further investigated the problem. The videos have a resolution of 640x360. There seems to be a problem with display aspect ratio, stream aspect ratio, container aspect ratio. Iīm a little bit confused with the different areas where aspect ratios come into play. But I found out that one movieīs aspect ratio was declared as 1.772 in one place. When doing the math the other way leads to 361 lines when fixing the horizontal resolution to 640 (640 / 1.772 ~= 361). So there is no cropping needed, but a fix of the aspect ratio. I tried the setting in LAV video concerning the stream / container aspect ratio, but this didnīt change anything. Then I tried the settings in MPC HC -> View -> Video Frame -> Aspect Ratio and there I got success ;)
The default DAR aspect ratio setting doesnīt work here. So I tried 16:9 and Assume square pixels (SAR). Both seem to work.
16:9 I assume is a kind of force, and the SAR setting uses the stream aspect ratio forced. I donīt understand what the difference is from the corresponding LAV video settings though...
But you were right SweetLow, didnīt forget that your first idea was mentioning a problem with the aspect ratio, you were absolutely right about that:cool:
