linear light was removed because it had major ringing issues and other reasons. which was judged on real work images not test pattern. it was rarely recommended for upscaling.
try 0.89.0 . 0.90.0 replaced linear light (we call it LL here) with sigmoidal light which to my notice is rarely spoken off.

do you have your TV set in deep colour mode on you PC HDMI port?, is your PC setup as 4:2:0 10 bit, if not drop it into that mode for now as a diagnostic step.
Make sure FSE is off and Direct3D is ticked in MADVR in rendering, you should also set MADVR to passthru for HDR.
might also be worth a clean driver install, I think people have suggested HDR is now fixed with they latest drivers.
Yes, the HDMI deep colour is on. I've tried 4:4:4- 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 with the same result. Not working properly. But I found a way, more or less, to get it to work. With Pot player + MadVR, if I toggle the "send HDR metadata" option on and off a couple of times, it will eventually display the right colours. Sometimes it blows the colours of the desktop leaving the video in the player looking dull, and sometimes it works. Hit or miss.

Hi guys, i got AN GTX960 GB, i used it to view my mobile phone S8 to view the clips, and make the best possible in terms of IQ for this card.
Can anyone tell me if i got it all good, or im missing a setting or 2?
This are the clips media info, if needed, i watch them on a Dell U2414h, with a HDMI connection, if that makes any difference...
I also got i5 2400 with 8gb of ram. Please tell me what should i change/add to get the best possible for this card, and sorry for spam!

Yes, the HDMI deep colour is on......
sorry not sure then, HDR has worked for a while now with AMD cards with no issues and most NVIDIA users on latest drivers say its fixed. Perhaps someone else can chime in here and help, might be wise to list your setup:

With the Windows 10 movie player something similar happens. If I turn on/off the Windows HDR toggle a couple of times it will eventually work: sometimes when it's off it will display the right colours, and when its on it won't. It's strange.
Anyway, at least I can get it to work now, with a bit of trouble. Thanks for your help.

Maxwell (ie. 900 series) supports HDMI 2.0 at full bandwidth. And 900 series also supports HDR output.

Mistaking it for another card. The 980Ti supports 4K and HDMI 2.0

I thought it went like this, the 980 had hdmi 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 but only had 10gbps output and chroma was compressed, the first card which was fully 4k compatible with 18gbps was the gtx 950, if the 980 ti came afterward then may that was a new variant and also has 18gbps but i'm sure the original 980 and 970 only had 10gbps output over HDMI.

This is still wrong. The full 900 series (at least all Maxwell cards) has full HDMI 2.0 bandwidth, including support for 4K60. Only even earlier generations got some HDMI 2.0 features patched in through software, which didn't require higher bandwidth, by using 4:2:0 chroma.
Some fact checking goes a long way, instead of going by memory, when answering questions.

I must say that I'm using kind of a janky solution with my setup.
For the video, the 980Ti is connected directly to the TV. But for the audio I'm using the motherboard's HDMI connected to my AV receiver. The reason? My AV receiver doesn't support HDR and I want DTS HD.
For Windows this is like having two screens: 980Ti and the motherboard's Intel 3000. One supports HDR and the other one doesn't. Not sure if this is causing any problems, having multiple screens.

It might. You could try removing the second oneand playing audio through the TV or through onboard audio, just for testing purposes.

Hey, guys, I'm kinda a newbie when it comes to madvr. Can someone give me a helping hand of how to fully configure it for best results for 720p and 1080p videos (anime and movies mainly)? I am with GTX 1060 3gb GPU, I5-6500 CPU at 3,20 Ghz, 8GB ram, Win 10. I also use PotPlayer and run the paid version of SVP, plus the latest K-Lite codecs. your rendertiems are to high. try to lower some settings so the AVG rendertime is under 40 ms so a 24 fps source can be rendered in realtime.
for better results give 24p mode a chance or smoothmotion.
sadly the mojority of TV can't do 24p properly and in this case smoothmtoion is closer to a real cinema experience.
I usually don't get dropped frames, except when I move the mouse cursor on the seek bar. In that case I get dropped frames, glitches and the screen goes black intermittently.
I think it's because of the last Intel video driver (23.20.16.4901 - Intel HD 520) but I'm not sure.
All the renders works good except for madVR.
you get a blackscreen when madVR switches between windowed fullscreen or windowed.
try overlay or d3d9 but you can ignore it too it will not harm image quality.
i can do a guess that is may have something todo with the hdmi "type" that switches between d3d11 windowed fullscreen and and d3d11 windowed.
nvidia has something like this under "adjust desktop colour settings" -> "Content reported to the display: auto-select".
with that active i saw something similar with a normal screen maybe intel has something like this too. sorry i can't test this.

The queue is the problem but not the cause, something is messing with madVR's ability to present the frames as fast as it should.
Uninstall your graphics drivers, that tends to fix these sorts of issues, if it doesn't only then do a reset to defaults using the batch file.

Isn't 'smooth motion' a last resort setting and a huge memory hog? Why do people desire to render 23.976 @ 60Hz? Besides being 'free' and not costing any memory, wouldn't 'match refresh rate' be the better starting point option? If you're draining your queue down to nothing because you're out of memory, no wonder the screen is black right off the bat. Start with good basic settings. You shouldn't get black screens and fumble with a bunch of irrelevant settings trying to correct it imo.

Many TV's just work better with PC if they can do 60hz. Like mine.

SM is pretty much free. it doesn't cast much memory either.
and if you run out of Vram you will not get a black screen you will just get rendertimes of doom.
the majority of TVs especially the majority of 2017 Samsung panels can't do 24p ever through nearly all TV support it as an input type.
they always turn it into 60 FPS by doing a 3:2 pull down(progressive).
brazen1
12th January 2018, 19:28
You've lost me? I have a 240Hz Samsung panel.
240 divided by 24 = a perfect 10. It is devisable with no frames missing so there is no need for any pulldown.
120Hz divided by 24 = a perfect 5 with no frames missing the matched refresh rate of the TV either nor any need for pulldown.
60Hz divided by 24 = an imperfect match resulting in 12 frames missing which requires a 3:2 pulldown.
Every OSD including my panel shows my 24p movie is playing at 24Hz (judder free I might add) with no indication of a 3:2 pulldown in use.
What am I missing indicating my display, and the majority of TV's as you have pointed out, are actually rendering at 60Hz via 3:2 pulldown and how do I confirm this?
I understand IF the signal sent from a PC (just like a cable TV broadcast or what ever) is incorrectly sent at 60Hz, the panel is going to have to do a 3:2 pulldown since there will be 12 frames missing. But, we are not dealing with TV broadcast here. We are using madVR applied to file playback of (mostly) 23.976 video. Imo, exactly matching 23.976 (and even correcting it slightly to 24.000) presents the best picture quality. 23.976 played at 60Hz is simply wrong, imo of course.
