BTW. this looks like copy back decoder your PCIe bandwidth get's pretty hammered..
Could that be why I get those random high spikes in my render times? Is there a way to prevent it from getting hammered?
bus interface on the graphic card tap in GPU-z use the "?" -> start render test to get proper readings for a couple of set more is not needed.
I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you telling me to disable a setting in GPU-Z?

i need a madVR OSD to tell what is going on.
the thing in GPU-Z is not a setting it's a test where it figures out the PCIe bus speed. it's a question mark that's not my idea to hide it be hide a single character.
you press on >?< and follow the instruction 1 sec is already enough.

Where in the screenshot I posted, does it show that the PCIe is taking a big hit ?

the high memory load and your bus interface speeds shows a suspicious 0% which is not "possible".
again GPU-Z helps but without an matching madVR OSD screen no clue

I'm assuming you mean a MadVR OSD when the issue occurs, and not when things are working correctly, right?

yes same for GPU-Z.
most likely followed with an request for a madVR OSD with showrendersteps.
currently we have odd high memory load odd bus load and 100 ms rendertimes with 79% GPU.

if you do the render test for 1 sec GPU-Z can "calculate" the PCIe bus it's next to the question mark on the left that can show PCIe 1 x1 (and other numbers) and when you do the test for 1 sec it can show the real bus speed of most likely PCIe 3 x16 and if that's the case time to move on.

Okay, so the Bus Interface says 16 3.0 x 16 1.1 when I open GPU-Z. When I run the render test for 1 sec, the Bus Interface changes to 16 3.0 x 16 3.0

good can be taken of the list of possible issues.
so i assume a native decoder is used (a madVR OSD will instantly tell me that).

your max clock are fine.
you have a relative hot "hotspot" in absolute save range.
i'm not going to calculate the fahrenheit to Celsius on your new screen.
your card is doing perfectly fine.
current suspicion is that the file is by accident trigger very hard to render settings or a power setting change.
just for reference i get ~3 % bus interface load with D3D11 native with PCIe 4.0 which is double your speed so there shouldn't be a 0% but don't think about it that's not the problem.

Here's an OSD from MadVR v113. I think the spike in render times and presentation glitches, happens when I open Snipping Tool in Windows, to take a screenshot. They were fine until I opened the Snipping Tool. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210913/c4ab0986395a7b5e537f1c62cade2298.jpg

try lowering the present queue to 1 and set chroma scale to medium.
even with the spikes this is "fine".

Okay, thanks! One last question. When I'm playing a movie, and I open LAV Video Decoder, should I choose D3D11 and Automatic(Native), or should I select my GPU from the drop-down box? Also, no matter what I choose in Hardware Decoder, the Active Decoder always says d3d11 native, even after I hit apply. Is that normal?

You need to select D3D11 Native. It uses Copyback if you select a GPU.
You need to restart playback for setting changes to take effect.

D3D11 decoding and D3D11 rendering are two separate things. The OSD shows what madVR uses for rendering.

File size is not what makes a file "heavy" to play. Large filesize just means it has high bitrate. But that only has a minimal effect on decoding performance. And zero effect on video renderer performance. The only thing that matters for the video renderer is resolution/bitdepth/hdr. That file is probably HDR, which means extra work needs to be done in the renderer (HDR tonemapping) if your system does not support HDR passthough (which it probably doesn't).
VLC has pretty much same decoder as MPC-BE and LAV. So that is not the issue. VLC does not do HDR tonemapping afaik, so that is why it performs better. Colors will look dull as well...
In MPC-BE do this:
1) Disable 10-bit/16-bit output in its video decoder settings. This saves bandwidth when copying data to GPU.
2) Install MPC Video Renderer and disable HDR conversion in its settings. I don't think EVR-CP in MPE-BE has an option to disable HDR tonemapping. It worked! Even with madVR selected. No more stuttering. There's just one issue left: subtitles are gone if you enable MPC Video Renderer. Once you block and use any other decoder they will be displayed again.
Do I have to add another external filter?
clsid
14th September 2021, 00:20
Your external filters list should be EMPTY.
You need to select it as a renderer:
MPC-BE options > Video > Video Renderer
or
MPC-HC options > Playback > Output > Video Renderer
Then subtitles will work properly again.

Anyone having issues with LavFilters D3D11 with Potplayer with AMD 6xxx series? If I don't use LavFilters Video, everything works fine. when I use Lavfilters specific D3D11 everything goes to hell, stuttering when seeking or at the start with green artefacts and when I try to close potplayer it freeze and shows error. If I stop the video before closing it closes without error.
It started happen with the newest AMD driver. since anything above 21.5.2. with 21.5.2 there is no issue at all.
How can I fix this? it's been already 21.9.1 the issues are even worse.
https://i.imgur.com/h3S8QQj.png
Something was seriously weird with potplayer. I went through each setting 1 by 1 and I saw some settings doesn't exist anymore, and somehow after the driver update, it showed the error after closing. WEIRD as hell..
Like one setting for the mouse that you can back forward 1 sec or forward 1 sec which was gone after a RESET to potplayer after there was only 5 sec.
I still have the weird Hardware decoding corruption. I sent AMD bug report, it will take them ages to fix it now.

Hi madshi.
I noticed that in the old releases(around 2016),the "jinc" filter has a lot more ringing than it's now.Did you change it into something like ewa_hanning(hanning windowed jinc)?
And is the scale radius of jinc in madvr now is exactly 3.0 taps?
(I didn't find the reason why ringing of jinc drops in the changelog.txt)

Is that what happens upon expiration, a no-info crash? I've been wondering this since I've been on the 140 beta for a while, which seems to still be current assuming the base url for the betas hasn't changed.

Haven't run an out of date beta but I very much doubt that's the case, there would be a message. Start with the usual method of resetting stuff, put madvr back to defaults after backing up and then completely removing your gpu drivers (with DDU if you need to) and reinstalling them. You could also try a system restore.

That's still different from a crash though. MadVR isn't particularly prone to crashing so I suspect a system issue.

I have an issue with 1080p50 MEDIA lately....
Plays at 25FPS with (I suspect, 25FPS dropped) and display going to 25Hz.
Device modes has a 25 and 50FPS entry (for 2160p).
If I set 1080p50 in device modes, display goes to 1080p50 and playback LOOKS 50FPS but source still says 25FPS.
MediaInfo also says it's 50FPS.

@WuNgUn is the media maybe interlaced? That would explain how source filter would say 25 fps but it would look 50 when played back. Does 'frame time' say 40 ms or 20 ms?

Hi there,
What would you recommend as a GPU to enjoy HDR content on my 4K monitor (non-HDR) with the latest madVR beta version?
Is it that demanding in GPU power?
Have you already compared the algorithms of madVR with new TV and Dolby Vision content.
I know all sorts of smart cheap boxes exist but I'm too devoted to Windows and Android makes me puke.

madvr compares very favorably to DoVi if you have the patience, knowledge, and time to configure it properly for your TV. This is talking about the beta builds with a decent video card. I'm not going to even try to make recommendations on that as I typically go for the most powerful thing I can afford/get my hands on when picking a video card but I also use it for gaming. Currently my HTPC is dead and won't be fixed until sometime in February so we'll see what's available then. LOL
But yea, madvr dynamic tone mapping works very well indeed....again, with some work.

Hi. I use MPC-HC with MadVR and RTX 3070 Ti. When I set display to 23hz, it automatically goes to 23.976hz, but when I set it to 47hz, it isn't going to 47.952hz. How can I set the frequency of my monitor to 47.952?
Klaus1189

Is a 47 Hz mode in dropdownlist in windows?
If not, you must create it but be careful custom resolutions could damage your monitor. I never had a problem but it is possible.

With madVR: search for II.III. "Trying to add missing 23p mode"

If this does not work anymore with recent drivers, then CRU:

Is there a "state of the art" post somewhere on DTM with madVR and OLED TVs? Or is the general consensus that it's not worth it and one might as well use the internal tone mapping for HDR10 and be done with it?

Very much depends on the TV model..
Newer TVs are probably better at mapping different brightness content, some companies better than others (Panasonic, Sony IIRC).
The thing is, for 99% of the content out there graded for 1000 nits, there would not be a noticeable difference.
I don't know how newer TVs handle 4000 nits and more, this is something HDTVTest covers in their HDR tests.
Up to you to decide if you prefer using an HTPC or other devices.
