chill easy to know with the name of the board and...
PCIe 16 slots with mechanical 8x and electrical 4x are so common...
adding a 16 x electrical 2x is easy task for a mainboard creator.
I have been reading your comments here with interest, what do you make of mine, it shows 8x, shouldnt it be 16x?

there are 560/550 with only x8 that doesn't support more.
but that should be fine.
could be a wrong mainboard settings or unlikely a wrong slot. 8x is usually a shared slot that doesn x16 or two x8 slots for two cards. i bet it's just the card nothing to worry about.
if there is one thing that would scare me it's the 2GB.
edit: 2GB Gigabyte Radeon RX 550 Gaming OC Aktiv is a native x8 if this is your card answer found.

A 2x PCIe link is not a Windows problem.
Try reseating the CPU.
Spot on. Pretty sharp. I would have thought either it was seated or not and couldn't close the hatch if it wasn't. Evidently not. Good reco and diagnosis to remember.

Wow, those LGA chips are pretty sensitive, didn't know that could happen. :scared:

4th March 2018, 20:01
Its relatively rare to happen and usually requires that it wasn't seated 100% perfectly to begin with to suddenly deteriorate. What surprises me is that it just happens to be some pins it can run without and doesn't just stop working entirely. Or if some power delivery pins get awkward, it may even cause electrical issues.
brazen1
4th March 2018, 21:25
Those pins on the socket are pretty stout considering the pressure they're under when making contact with the CPU. I would think all of them have no choice but to make solid contact unless one of them is slightly bent from mishandling. I'd bet you could damn near stand on it once it does make correct contact considering the pressures required for some heat sinks.
huhn
4th March 2018, 21:58
they are very easy to bend, very easy to bend back and easy to completely break of.
consumer grade hardware doesn't need any pressure from the heatsink and you press the CPU against the plastic socket not the pins the pins are later pressed against the CPU.
you could even break a pin and the CPU may still work there are dummies.
just don't play around with it is very fragile and it doesn't matter for madVR.

Recently I had the same issue on my PC (i7 5775c, Radeon RX Vega64, win10 1709) with slowdown performance in games and in madVR.
After some investigation, I realized that it was caused by windows updates for Spectre and Meltdown. The solution was to deactivate all these patches.
Go to command line under administrator privileges and execute 2 commands:
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v FeatureSettingsOverrideMask /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v FeatureSettingsOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
It solved my problems.

The Meltdown patch hardly has any impact on Haswell and later CPUs such as yours, and with the Spectre patch you lose at most 6% in games: http://www.hardware.fr/getgraphimg.php?id=644&n=1

Just updated to the latest version since a year ago, as I was going through different options, it crashed. Then it would crash repeatedly every time I entered settings (see pic), any fix for it?

Microsoft actually disabled all the Spectre patches this setting refers to in February; I had to roll it out like crazy, and the fix was such a relief. Supposedly it's coming back in modified and less-broken form this month, but I don't know if the same patch will still disable them, Microsoft might change it up.

Talking about PCIe, the GT1030 runs as low as @4x... That's in a PCIe 2.0 slot but probably would be the same in a 3.0 slot... Considering the specs and bandwidth, it still runs 4K 60 fps in MadVR and 8K in EVR, so I'd say the 4x is quite enough for it...

Thanks for information. It was really annoying to get massive frame drops in madvr after 5 minutes of playback. Probably it was related to architecture of processor i7 5775c.

Are you reporting bus interface correctly? Because with no load it can enter power saving; my 1030 for example:

I wanted to know if any of you could help me about the subtitles of blu ray scaled to 3840x2160, in practice when the fixed subtitles come out the image slows down by going for a few seconds, increasing the rendering and after the subtitles disappear it is replaced, this it happens even if I use JINC as IMAGE UPSCALING.
My video card is AMD RX480, media player JRIVER, os WINDOWS 10.

I am trying unsuccessfully to implement D3D11 output from NUCs with Intel Graphics 5000 (Haswell) and 540 (Skylake) running Windows 7. All I can get is D3D9 output (new path).
I can get D3D11 output from a Windows 7 PC with an old NVidia GT430, so it looks like some problem with the NUCs running Intel Graphics and Windows 7. I can get D3D11 output no problems with Intel Graphics 640 in a Kaby Lake NUC running Windows 10, and it is possible that I would be able to get D3D11 output from the older NUCs if I were running Windows 10 but I would much prefer to keep them running Windows 7.
Does anyone have tips how I can get D3D11 output from NUCs with Intel Graphics 5000 (Haswell) and 540 (Skylake) running Windows 7?
TIA

Do you have the Windows 7 Platform Update? Do you have Aero enabled? AFAIK both are required for the D3D11 output.

The Windows 7 Platform Update KB is installed. Aero is disabled, but I wasn't aware that it was required for D3D11 output. Can someone confirm?

Yes, Aero (actually the DWM (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa969540(v=vs.85).aspx), not Aero specifically) is required for D3D11 output.

Doesn't affect madVR quality, hopefully you don't run into glitches though on Intel Graphics using it.

Thanks for the confirmation. Enabling aero has resulted in D3D11 output from the Haswell NUC. I've no reason to think that it would not work with the Skylake NUC as well.
There was some reason in the past that I found it advisable to disable aero on my Windows 7 HTPCs. I've forgotten why that was, but everything (so far) appears to be working as it should with aero enabled again.

Something changed with the Kaby Lake graphics when I switched to D3D11 output and FSE mode. Not only did the graphics appear crisper, but colour saturation increased so that it was necessary to dial it down in MPC-HC. If it wasn't madVR quality that was affected, what could it have been due to?
So far, with the Kaby Lake, I have seen no glitches at all, even when present a frame for every VSyync is unchecked. I'll try the Haswell and Skylake with that option unchecked first, and keep an eye on the presentation glitch count in the stats.

Intel's video (damage) algorithms kicking in, madVR probably successfully bypasses them when using D3D9 but not when using D3D11. Some "Standard Color Correction" or "Color Enhancement" could explain your observations.

That sounds possible, but I usually disable all "Color Enhancements" in the HD Graphics settings, with the exception of slight tweaking of skin tone, and hue. Anyway, the graphics look better to me in the Kaby Lake NUC when using D3D11. It remains to be seen if they will look better in the Haswell and Skylake NUCs.

Nobody? It might be a bandwidth issue. For such high resolutions, a lot of data needs to be copied to/from the GPU memory.
Try D3D11 hardware acceleration in LAV Video decoder.

Hello,
I have been using madvr for some time but recently I had to reinstall windows. Now all the settings work fine except for chroma upscaling, it doesn't produce any image changes. Any idea on what it may cause this?
el Filou
7th March 2018, 20:48
You can't have chroma upscaling not work, it's (in 99% of cases) a necessary step to display compressed video. Probably the differences between algorithms are so subtle that you don't spot them.
clsid
7th March 2018, 20:58
Press Ctrl+J to see which algorithm is used. Madvr will by default ignore your choice and use DXVA chroma upscaling if you use DXVA native decoding or if the video is interlaced.
sorinmisu
7th March 2018, 20:59
Then what could affect chroma upscaling such that before reinstall I could see a clear difference between algorithms and now not being able to see any difference?

Press Ctrl+J to see which algorithm is used. Madvr will by default ignore your choice and use DXVA chroma upscaling if you use DXVA native decoding or if the video is interlaced.
In LAV Video decoder I use Hardware decoder "Nvidia CUVID" and for chroma > NGU Anti-Alias (high)
Asmodian
7th March 2018, 21:32
Don't use CUVID, use D3D11 or DXVA2 copy-back.
Use ctrl-J to see the OSD. There you can see what chroma upscaling method is being used.
edit: also disable the rendering "trade quality for performance" options "use DXVA chroma upscaling when doing native DXVA decoding" and "use DXVA chroma upscaling when doing DXVA deinnterlacing".

With D3D11 used all madvr settings are ignored including image upscaling and that works fine with CUVID and DXVA2 copy-back. I already have all "trade quality for performance" options disabled.

Sorin, chroma options don't tend to change the appearance a lot when it is noticeable however it's mostly on red images, I notice your settings are too high in that screenshot, set to NGU AA med or low to get your rendering time down so you're not dropping frames. Some of the 'trade quality for performance' options can actually be quite useful here with little image quality affect.

Hi!
Any Windows 10 users here?
When I experimented with it a while ago I had a significant issue with video playback: after I left the media player paused for a while and wanted to resume playback the video froze with madVR (not sure about other renderers, I forgot whether I checked or not...). I had to stop playback and restart. Very inconvenient.
Do such things still happen on Windows 10?
BTW. How does it compare to Windows 8.1 from the aspect of multimedia?

anyone else out there with a 2015 or 2016 LG OLED without a pro calibration, just wondering what you've set your MADVR calibration to, DCI-P3 / power curve 2.20 looks the best to my eyes, with calibration disabled MADVR is overblowing colour, mainly reds for me.
No idea if this is even correct.
