I do personally feel, no,no,no,fw(s) are the best settings for Nvidia at least. I also have my queue set to 12.
What queue are you reffering to? CPU (default 16) or GPU (default 8) ?

About presentational glitches, I found out what caused the problem earlier for me on the laptop: tha LAN cable ! :)

test: utorrent is running in the background (with very low download/upload speed (15KB/s)), so there's network traffic.

- if only lan is plugged: I've got RANDOM glitches (and maybe dropped and delayed frames too), no matter what setting I'm using in MadVR
- if only wifi is on: I've got only a few glitches or nothing at all , but only if I set '...after D3D presentation' to any of the flush values (I'm using 'flush')
- if both is off: if I set '...after D3D presentation' to 'don't flush' -> I got presentational glitches , but if I set to 'flush' -> I've got zero

These means: (like in ancient times) there are some collosion when the vga and the lan card is used -> are they using the same IRQ????
And, looking at the Device Manager (Win7 x64), they share the same IRQ ( 0x00000010(16) ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that's the problem! (at least for me)

So, I'll try to separate them, or if I can't then I'll try to search a new lan driver for the 'Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller'.
Hope it helps to someone else ... :)

Edit:
Guess what, problem solved when I've updated a lan card driver ! (from the one on msi website to the latest on www.realtek.com.tw)
I've got only a couple presentation glitches (instead a bunch of them) with these settings on my nvidia car and the latest drivers: flush+sleep+don't+flush !

I'm just curoius: can someone with an nvidia card can verify that the render queue is not full in exclusive mode with any of these setting?
- '...after copy to backbuffer' : flush and wait (sleep) or flush and wait (loop)

Thanks

For those people which get unstable issues with driver 295.73, it is better to stay with driver 285.62.

Not only the playback issues, I also get various system stability problems with driver 295.73 on GTX260+ under Win7 x64. It has to be changed back to 285.62 to prevent various random system lock-up problems. But the driver 295.73 just works fine on my ION system.

Thus I suspect the driver 295.73 might be more sensitive to the over-clocked system like my HTPC (C2D E8400@3600 1.04v). But I am too lazy to reset all frequency and clock settings to verify that. Just go back to the previous stable 285.62 driver which has been used for several months w/o the basic stability issue.

I was able to get it working nicely with the 295 driver thanks to a bit of help and some experimentation. I'm going to need it soon for a particular game which is why I upgraded in the first place. Seems to be working well now.

Been using 295.73 with my GTX 560 ti from the start and it's the best driver I have ever seen. Everything works better now. Games and video. I even think madVR is more fluid and I'm not using even half of the video clocks while watching stuff. I have never had an issue with default settings of madVR, and I have been using it from since forever. All queues stay max all the time with both of my nVidia cards (GTX 260 and 560 ti).

For the one saying overclocking affects more with this driver is just plain wrong, everything is stable. Installed and tried with three different generation nVidia cards.

And thanks for the new version Madshi. Nothing for me really but I really love your work.

Do you use these settings for both window and exclusive?

madshi, thanks for releasing .81 with the Zoom Player fixes. There is a definite marked improvement when coming out of Fullscreen Exclusive Mode to window mode versus version .80 when "Present Several Frames In Advance" is checked. However with "Present Several Frames In Advance" unchecked (I get better smoother playback this way) the Zoom Player GUI still distorts when coming out of FSE to window mode though not quite as bad as v.80. Am mentioning this in case you are able in a future version to make Zoom Player more smooth coming out of FSE with the old FSE path ("Present Several Frames In Advance" unchecked) as well. Thanks :-)

I have not tried in windowed mode, I use FS exclusive mode only.

Same here. I only use FS exclusive mode, as well.

Wow, I can now FINALLY drag MPC-HC between screens and fullscreen to exclusive mode without lag and without a frozen screen. Before exclusive mode could only be started on one screen and then I would have to reopen the video clip to use fullscreen exclusive mode on my other screen.

I must say that Windowed <-> exclusive mode and rapid switching between exclusive modes of different screens is now completely smooth and fixed from my viewpoint.

Only bug report that I have is regarding the display changer which I mentioned before in the thread. Basically when the refresh rate changes on my screen (which also changes the resolution from 2048 x 1152 @ 60Hz to 1080p @ 60Hz, 50Hz, or 24Hz) the the video clip display refresh rate reported in the OSD still says 59.940Hz (from the previous refresh rate of 60Hz). That seems to be the only major problem in madVR for me atm.

Feature request: Is it possible to add key commands to enable (or invoke) the display changer and to disable (or stay at the original refresh rate)? Basically to be able to have the display changer 'execute' at will?

Hi madshi, today in mpc-hc I got a message about mpc-hc crashing but I see a madVR crash report was created on the desktop. Is it useful to send this to you somehow?

I'm using the latest madVR 0.81 and mpc-hc build 4090

Hi madshi, thank you for the new release. For the next one, I vote for a fix to the "DVD macromedia fail" on window seven, if you please.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

@dansrfe: yeah I know dslibdvdnav but it's in early stage, yet. Requires a modified MPC-HC or registry hack and doesn't work very well with some menus. Can't wait it to became more stable, so we can abandon ms dvd navigator.

It doesn't modify MPC-HC. it simply resets the path to qdvd.dll so that calls to mircosoft's dvd navigator are directed to dslibdvdnav.ax. And even at its current state it performs better than MS's dvd navigator.

is dscaler5 still necessary with madVR 0.81? I'm a little confused whether the ivtc features in madVR duplicate what dscaler does for dvds (mpeg2).

I'm using that dslibdvdnav and doesn't need any difficult hacks and works fine

MadVR is obviously much better than the Dscaler-mod IVTC is !
Dscaler only works for 3:2 cadence, and only for MPEG2 content.

MadVR has it's own on the fly pattern-finder (it searches for all possible cadences, like 3:2, 2:2, 3:2:2,... almost unlimited, and can (almost real-time) switch between different cadences) and works for all content, not just MPEG2.
Also H264 (from broadcasting for example) can be "telecined", what should be no problem for Madvr because for the renderer the content does not matter anymore.

I got a complete crash from Potplayer (latest version) in a way that my screen was completely black. I happened when switching to or back from FSE, can't tell for sure what is was.
I couldn't even access the taskman anymore, because after ctrl+alt+del -> taskman gave me again the back screen.
The only way to recover was switching to a different user and kill the Potplayer process from there.

At the moment that the screen turned black, I pressed the magic buttons to create a crash report.
Now here it comes : there were 41 crash-reports on my desktop !
You probably need just the first one I suppose, but to make sure, I'll provide all of them.
(don't worry, all together compressed is still only 15 kB.)

MadVR 0.81 / Nvidia GTX-570 / Win7 x64 SP1 (auto-updates)
Potplayer 1.5.32007 / CPU i7-970 / NVidia driver : v290.33

I'm finding that the automatic display mode changer isn't taking deinterlacing+IVTC into account when determining which display mode to change to. It is selecting 1080p60, even though the playback rate is 24fps. When the content is already 24p, 1080p24 is selected correctly. Can anyone confirm, or am I missing something?

you have to flag it manually with a "24p" in the file name. If you want film mode to be detected automatically too without having to press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+T, then you have to disable automatic source type detection in madVR's deinterlacing options.

Hi Madshi,

Would it be possible to change the seek bar's height in exclusive mode? It's a little too thin now -- with an overscan, I could merely see the tip of the bar.

A time code overlayed on top of the seek bar (I know it's custom drawn and much harder than what most ppl think) would be appreciated as well. :)

Thanks madshi for the new version, bicubic 100 exceeded my expectations and unlike EVR's bicubic 100 there is very little aliasing and less ringing.

I wouldn't mind seeing the exclusive mode seek bar a little taller also.

Speaking of FSE seek bar, it would be nice if it supported seeking to keyframes with Shift+LeftClick (or some other way) just like MPC-HC does.

Installed the new version and the video resolution is slow to adjust when going in and out of full screen while playing.

For example:
When I double-click MPCHC it switches to full screen but the video remains the windowed sized stuck at the top-left corner, a blank non-Aero windowed frame of MPCHC is seen as well.
MPCHC then gets very inresponsive to clicks and keyboard presses.
When I manage to exit full screen, the video is still full screen size with the top left part showing in the window.
Scales like normal if its done when video is paused though.

Did not happen when I was using 0.80.

Got a wierd symptom with MPC-HC, LAV Filters & madVR 0.81, black screen with the above using RGB32, but works right away in YV12.

Win7 64/GTX260, latest WHQL drivers. What other info can I provide?

Are you running Nvidia's latest driver 295.73? and latest MPC?

thanks for the new version working fine for me.

I have a request:

madVR CPU resizers.

madVR for all not only for GPU Monster Systems.

It would really be great.

Yup, driver 295.73 and MPCHC 1.6.1.4081 from xvidvideo.ru
Also using the latest LAV Filters.

EDIT:
Used the included batch file to reset to default settings and slowly tweak the settings back.
Scaling is much faster but sometimes the blank non-Aero windowed frame of MPCHC can still be seen in a flash when scaling to full screen.
Seems fine now, fast and usable.

The switch to full screen exclusive mode is fast too but I want MPCHC's function that shows the time on hovering the seek bar.

On further testing it seems to be the enabling of 'delay playback start until render queue is full' and probably a high backbuffer value.
Or is it the 'use a separate device for presentation' option.
Haven't been able to pinpoint it for now.
I've been following the guide at http://imouto.my/madvr/.

About my previous (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1553687#post1553687)issue:
I've tested with 0.81: no problem
I came back to 0.80 : no problem

So, it was on my own. Sorry for the disturbance. :/

Issue: I tag my PAL MKV files with "23p" in the filename. 0.81 no longer auto-switches monitor frequency, stays at the default 50Hz. Worked fine with 0.80. Have also tried using "24Hz" in the filename, and fullscreen and windowed. Have double-checked my auto-frequency settings, all is set fine.

ATI5750 on Intel i5 CPU.Just rolled back to 0.80 and the screen resolution changes according to the tag in the filename. Seems 0.81 is not respecting this. Have also tried to re-register the dll's using the install batch file - not working.

About presentational glitches, I found out what caused the problem earlier for me on the laptop: tha LAN cable ! :)

.....

Well, not totally solved:
- after reboot playback is awful again (many-many glitches, and frame drops)
- but unistalling and reinstalling the same new lan driver solves the problem again (very few glitches or none) !

So I don't know what is going on ... :)

It doesn't modify MPC-HC. it simply resets the path to qdvd.dll
It requires a modified MPC-HC OR this registry hack (with a big red "testing only" warning)

And even at its current state it performs better than MS's dvd navigator.
Well, no. I got crashes, and invisible buttons.
Anyway we are out of topic, let's stop here.

Follow up to my question about dscaler5:

If I play this clip:

https://rapidshare.com/files/4264372196/elizabeth.vob

with dscaler5, madVR correctly reports the movie is 23.976 fps and sets the TV to that refresh rate.

without dscaler5, I can press CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-T to force it to set the display to 23.976, but it won't do so automatically unless I disable automatic detection and select "default to film mode". And in that case it still reports the movie is 29.970 fps.

Seems like dscaler is still a better option for the time being?

If the madVR OSD shows the correct film mode cadence, then ignore the reported fps, all is well. madVR's IVTC beats dscalar hands down, IMO.

nevcairiel

The FPS it reports is what the decoder tells it, which is before IVTC.

There's some confusion here (maybe by me)....

If you disable automatic source type detection (by checking the box), madVR will assume that the content is the type you have set as default. If the content is a different type, you must use CTRL+ALT+SHIRT+T to toggle between video and film. madVR will select the refresh rate best suited for the source type you select. However, if you have tagged the file, then madVR will select the refresh rate based on the tag, even if you manually switch to video mode. This would probably be the best option if you do not wish to tag your files, and/or most of the interlaced content you watch is the same type.

If you enable automatic detection, then need to tag your film sourced 50i and 60i files as 24Hz.... madVR will automatically enable it's ivtc filter, and select the best refresh rate, based on that tag. MadVr will assume that any non-tagged files are video.

How does madVR's ivtc filter handle a file like this: http://www.mediafire.com/?2obecsdjb930dgg

The file is 1080i59, and according to tsmuxer, has pulldown flags. While playing the file, Reclock shows 23Hz (and when using EVR, mpc also shows 23fps). I use LAVvideo, which I assume must be stripping the pulldown.

However, madVR shows 29Hz, and shows a 3:2 cadence.

The file plays fine, so I assume everything is working right, but I didn't think the two things above could be true at the same time.

I'll be damned, I completely misread that option. Checking disables it, now that makes more sense considering my previous post to madshi about it! You're completely right. Sorry for the confusion.

LAV Video does never strip any pulldown. Hard-Pulldown of course cannot be "stripped", and soft-pulldown is send to the renderer as is.

Do you actual manifestations that the file is played at wrong playrate ? Do you see judder for instance ? What dislay-mode does you display change to / do you use etc. ?

Cause i have the feeling that what you mention might be related to these reports:

[...]Only bug report that I have is regarding the display changer which I mentioned before in the thread.
[...]

In you case 59i -> after deinterlacing -> 29p

29p, 3:2 cadence -> 24p. But the OSD and/or display-rate changer dont work as expected (see bug-reports) -> shows 29p still, while real fps is 24p.

I've recently found an annoying problem. Whenever I play any 50fps (progressive) video, MadVR crashes within 1 or 2 minutes of start playing (mainly in exclusive mode). This does not happens when playing 23.976 or 60 fps videos. In the former case, statistics show a composition of 59.9 fps instead of 50.

I've tried other renderers (EVR) and videos does not crash. The problem persists whenever I disable/enable Reclock or I change options in MadVR like queue lengths and happens with any 50fps content.

I use the latests versions of MadVR, LAV filters, ffdshow, MediaPlayer HC, and Reclock.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already tried it (and also to completely remove reclock from the chain) and the problem persists...

I've also tried older MadVr versions (from 0.81 to 0.76) with no success.

One note: videos are converted to 50fps from 23.976fps with ffdshow and MVtools (frame interpolation). In any case, the same videos converted to 60fps do not produce crashes.

Win7 SP1 x64
ATI 5750 1GB
MPC-HC

Trigger: Loading the next file in a playlist when in fullscreen exclusive mode

Symptoms: The frame from when you entered fullscreen exclusive mode with the first file flashes on screen when MPC-HC tries to load the second file. Occasionally results in black screen afterwards, with madVR and MPC-HC completely hung in Fullscreen Exclusive Mode.

Cause: As far as I can tell... After copy to backbuffer = Flush & Wait (loop) + Fullscreen Exclusive Mode + Windows 7 + ATI GPU.
