Can someone help me set this up please...
I have all my ripped BDs set to play back at 4K upscaling via JR and madvr using the 1080Ti card.
As I have only a handful of BDs that are 50Hz and DVDs that are 50 and 60, when they switch across at 4K they drop frames etc etc...
As most of my 900 ripped BDs are 23.97 I have my settings fairy high on madvr since I have the 1080Ti card...
Can I make just the ripped DVDs and BDs that are 50Hz just playback in 1080P rather than 4K so the madvr settings can remain high?
Use profiles (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1271417#post1271417).

Make new profiles dependant on the source input (e.g 4k @ 23/24hz, then a separate one for 4k @ 50/59/60hz)
MadVR will then detect the source input and use the correct profile that you specify, there is a decent guide on the Kodi forums for setting up profiles, you may have to alter t suit your needs, but its worth it.
I myself have Sli 980s - so a lot of media I can have high / very high, but on some 4k files @60hz, of which I have very few, my profiles switch NGU AA down to low / med
Cant I use profiles to have all DVD material 50/60 at 1080p, and the few BDs that are 50 also at 1080p, everything else 23.98 BDs at 4k?
So one setting in profiles at 1080p the other at 4K, this way both resolutions can have the same high NGU settings?

You can set profiles by resolution or by fps or by a combination of both, yes. I think this specific request my even be set using the display modes setting though I'm not sure if it's the best way. Usually you lower some scaling setting using the profiles instead.

I'd focus on creating profile groups for scaling and use lower scaling settings for the high fps content. This would be the easiest way to handle your problem.

Yes exactly as soon as the HDR slidder is on, the HDR logo appears on my tv and my tv stay in HDR mode regardless of whether any video is playing. But desktop is weird / dark looking.
Once I start an hdr video in FSE, even if my tv is already in HDR mode, the hdr logo appears again and madvr/mpc-be display HDR correctly.
If I uncheck ''send HDR metadata to the display'' :
it change nothing
in FSE: HDR is still displayed properly
windowed mode: washed out colors
Same issue of imhh11,
GTX1070, Win10 CU, latest nvidia driver, latest madvr, latest Lav Filter.
I use Kodi DSlayer v17.1. TV Samsung KS8000
If I turn on HDR slide in Windows 10, all videos are play in HDR mode.
If I turn off HDR slide in Windows 10, madvr don't turn on my TV into HDR mode. The only way is to turn on HDR slide manually when I need to play an HDR video.
RX470.Yes,it shows the switch.I tried it on and off but it gets disabled all the time. The only time I've seen it enabled was with the installation of new drivers but it didn't last long. With previous madvr version I've seen it getting enabled at random times when opening a video(non hdr) but if I remember well it gets disabled when going fullscreen.Haven't tested a lot with v0.91.10 but the behavior seems like the past.Washed out image and hdr stays disabled.
Weird indeed! And that's correct, yes. And when the HDR switch is activated both madVR in windowed mode and the Win 10 Movies & TV app render the video correctly.
With the HDR slider on or off videos in FSE look exactly the same and also look identical to what I get when I choose EVR as the renderer in MPC-HC.
Just to be sure I am being totally clear. In windowed mode with the Win 10 API HDR metadata is always being passed whether HDR mode is activated via the switch or not, but is only displayed correctly when the HDR switch is active. In FSE mode HDR metadata is never being passed regardless of the state of the HDR switch and, additionally, when FSE mode is activated it will take me out of HDR mode on my TV if it has been activated by the switch. As soon as I leave fullscreen, if HDR had been activated by the switch my TV will return to HDR mode and HDR metadata is passed again.
A quick video of what I am experiencing in MADVR HDR - windowed and fullscreen windowed.
Using Windows 10 API, fullscreen exclusive disabled, doesn't seem to make much difference what settings I change.
This is WITHOUT the HDR colour tab slider switched to "ON" in windows.
very strange indeed haha!

Interesting, thanks! Can you guys comment on how madVR's behaviour compares to the Win 10 Movies & TV app, and how it compares to HDR games? Do they have the same behaviour?
Update - tried the above on drivers past 378.92, and it doesn't work. From reading the nvidia forums, post this driver, nvidia handed over an important part of the render chain to the OS.
Do you have a link about that forum post, explaining how NVidia handed over stuff to the OS?
In previous build I have to limit the buffer and set to D3D9 mode, but In madVR v0.91.10 All Optimus Problem has gone here!!
Thanks a lot!!
Cool!
So, is it indeed the way madVR handles WtW values when using 3dlut?
And the video is really full range (but interpreted as limited)?
A 3dlut is calculated offline, so it has the chance to calculate everything is perfect accuracy. Because of that, when using a 3dlut, madVR leaves *everything* in the hands of the 3dlut, which includes handling of WTW and BTB. It's the job of the 3dlut to handle WTW and BTB correctly. If it doesn't, it's not madVR's fault, but the fault of the 3dlut. In that case please discuss this with the developers of the software you used to create the 3dlut.

LOL:
But HDR slide is on or off in windows settings?
Because with my GTX 1070, win 10 CU, madvr with nVidia API, kodi DSPlayer, my TV Samsung KS8000 don't switch automatically in HDR mode until I turn ON manualy HDR slide in Win 10.
But with Win10 HDR slide ON, all normal videos are in HDR.

Looks like the issue is WDDM 2.2 in CU, which effects pretty much every nvidia driver past 378.92 (with this driver and below, the HDR option does not appear in the win 10 os, as the nvidia driver is handing that part of the render chain I believe).

Ok, it mentions in all 3 threads that HDR has never worked in creators update using a driver built for WDDM 2.2, which is pretty much every driver past the one I mentioned (looks like nevcairiel has been involved in this topic if i'm not mistaken, and he may have a more technical answer for you).
If you run the nvidia HDR sdk (https://developer.nvidia.com/high-dynamic-range-display-development , link to sdk at the bottom of the page) in drivers lower than 378.92, the api triggers HDr mode. After driver 378.92, the api does not work, because of the way nvidia tried to hand over control using wddm 2.2 to the os I believe)
Another thread on this issue http://www.avsforum.com/forum/26-home-theater-computers/2798257-windows-10-creator-update-thread-3.html
"Windows 10 Redstone 2 (aka the Creators Update) now supports native HDR effects and that it takes control of this Function when a WDDM 2.2 driver is detected."
I'm using the insider program, and I am on the latest 16199 build, and its still the same story.

Anyone having this issue where the Render and Present Queue would be empty(0/8) and cause the rendering time to shoot up to at least more than 120ms?
Weird thing is that this is occuring on my dual monitor desktop setup and not on my laptop which has a slightly lower spec than the desktop.
Desktop: i5-6500 and GTX 1070
Laptop: i7-6700HQ and GTX 1060
An observation I made is that this only happens if the video is in fullscreen(not exclusive) mode and the video player is in focus, when this problem is occuring, everything else would freeze for a split second(including mouse cursor and even my keyboard's RGB lighting) every 4 to 5 seconds.
This problem stops if I move my mouse cursor over to the monitor the video is not playing on and click there to remove focus from the video player to something else. However, if i click on the video player icon in the taskbar or do anything to bring the video player back in focus, this problem occurs again.

Fact is that many of use have long been awaiting a way to disable the exclusive/windowed OSD messages and a config panel hotkey but madshi does it for free and has his own priorities so suck it up and enjoy.
PS: you can always build your own hotkey by calling "\madVR\madHcCtrl.exe editLocalSettingsDontWait"

Thanks for your excellent work as always.
I think movies and tv app work a bit better.
Start faster, tv don't have to switch to HDR again.
You can change audio/subtitles (mouse) without HDR turning off
Having to use the FSE mode is a pain in the ass with a JVC projector, it takes forever to get an image.
So the day madvr support HDR in windowed mode without having to turn on the OS slider, all those movie and tv app benefits are gone.

@madshi, I don't know whether this is just an aesthetic glitch, or whether this is specific to my system, but I've noticed that my queues periodically seem to empty for a moment. I don't know if this is because of a latency spike or what, and it usually doesn't seem to cause a dropped frame, but I think it does sometimes when it gets unlucky with the render time. I've noticed that by significantly lowering my settings (bringing the processing down to ~5ms below my frame budget) I can sometimes get it to stop, but it doesn't seem consistent. Maybe it's related to memory usage on the GPU? I'm using the D3D11 path, and enabling "present a frame for every VSync" or "use a separate device for presentation" doesn't change it.
Edit: The reason I ask is that I've noticed the same thing on my laptop (GeForce GTX 1060 3G) and desktop (GeForce GTX 1080). I have Smooth Motion set to "only if there would be motion judder without it", but these 'glitches' don't seem to correspond directly with duplicated frames. Both devices are running Windows 10 with the Creators update, and the latest drivers (382.33), but I think this has been happening for a while now.

Win 10 Movies and TV app shows HDR properly in windowed mode (like madVR) and in fullscreen works/does not crash my PC (unlike madVR :D).
Of the two HDR-supporting games I have, only one works with the WDDM 2.2 drivers (Hitman) and that only works totally correctly if I enable the HDR slider, set my color output setting to 4:2:0/12-bit and set the resolution to 3840X2160 in fullscreen exclusive mode. Unfortunately, my card can't really handle gaming in 4K, so this *looks* pretty but isn't really playable. If I set the resolution to 1920X1080 in 4:2:0/12-bit I get wrong colors (red is purple kind of wrong) and if I send 1920X1080 in 4:2:2/12-bit or 10-bit I get correct colors and HDR output, but also get horrible banding.

I am using a 3DLUT, but this seems to happen with a reasonably set frequency (once every few seconds) and I'm not sure anything about the video stands out. Still, perhaps having a look at the detailed breakdown would be a good idea.
Edit: Oh, and the video I noticed this on most recently is the VOD of a livestream, which are composed of many segments. Perhaps this is happening on segment boundaries? I'm not sure how to confirm that.

Thanks for finally getting HDR passthru working on AMD GPU's. :D
Now can you figure out a way to automatically switch Win10 CU to HDR when required? Having to manually switch to HDR mode in Win10 settings each time is a pain. If I leave it on HDR everything else looks over saturated with blown out highlights.
EDIT: OK there is a problem. Even if I disable HDR mode in Win10 CU HDR is still getting sent. Even if I disable passthru in MadVR it still outputs as HDR. Only if I turn off DX11 does it not send everything as HDR.
EDIT2: And now after a hard reboot it's back to how it was before with HDR not working correctly. HDR mode is enabled. HDR shows on my TV but the colors are all washed out. :(
EDIT3: THERE BE BUGS CAPTAIN!
OK I can get HDR passthru working correctly ONLY if I do the following.
1. Make sure HDR is enabled in Win10 CU.
2. Disable Full screen Exclusive in MadVR.
3. Click on the MadVR icon. If I click away or pause the video the colors go back to being washed out and the brightness drops. I can only get proper HDR if I click on the MadVR system tray icon and don't click away from it!
If I disable Win10 CU HDR mode and do the same thing the colors become over saturated and whites get blown out when I click on the MadVR icon. If I go into MadVR settings while the HDR video is still playing and enabled full screen exclusive and apply it clicking on the icon brings back correct HDR passthu and I can even click away and pause it. But if I exit playback and try again it will not display HDR passthru no matter what.
Madshi can you clue me in on what may be happening here?
Oh and I have just discovered if I move the mouse cursor down to the bottom of the TV screen the playback options pop up and HDR shows correctly. But if I move the mouse back up and the playback options vanish it goes back to looking washed out.
EDIT4: (This is getting silly) I have now discovered that if I hover the mouse over some icons in the system tray it does the same thing (switches between correct HDR output and washed out modes). But not all of them. I can hover the mouse over notifications, the network icon, Kaspersky, safely remove hardware and MPC's icon. But icons like volume don't do it. I can only assume it's some kind of bug either in Win10 or AMD's drivers.

Hi MadshI, the movies and TV app does not play the files since updating to creators update, it used to play them fine with HDR colours.
HDR games work flawlessly, Mass effect andromeda, resident evil, have completed both and they trigger HDR mode on the TV when in full screen mode (without having the HDR slider "on" in windows 10)
If I enable the slider in windows 10 it triggers HDR mode on the TV instantly, on desktop, and stays in HDR mode no matter what you do, it sadly blows out all highlights and gives a greenish tint to all items on desktop, it looks horrid, BUT plays the HDR movie fine in MPC-HD with Madvr, the colours are correct, it's simply just I have to enable, then disable HDR mode everytime I want to watch a movie in MPC.

Sounds similar to what is happening to me. I can only get it to display correctly by 1. enabling HDR in Win10 system settings. 2. hover the mouse over some system tray icons or clicking MadVR icon and leaving that showing. 3. moving the mouse to the top or bottom of the display in MPC-HC. I have not tried the winkey but I am guessing it's something to do with how Win10 is displaying certain desktop components like popup notifications and such? Either way HDR colors and levels do not output correctly otherwise. Film & TV plays HDR correctly with no intervention.

Yea, seem to me like this will be the best course of action until Microsoft find a better way to handle it.
If we could just start a HDR video, MadVr detect is is HDR then call the windows API and enable HDR. then we I close the video, and API call again to switch it off. that will be awesome at this point.
But of couse does the windows API allow to do such a thing? probably not at this point... But I will let Madshi comment on that :)
Of course even without that if Microsoft could remove the stupid popup asking if we want to keep this configuration when switching HDR on and OFF, I could deal with having to switch HDR on and off manually, but this popup and the too short time given(10 seconds I think) most of the time is not enough on my JVC projector, and that gets very anoing.

I really don't understand how you guys can get HDR working windowed.

i can see the difference between true 23p and 60 hz SM.
but getting 23p in a screen doesn't mean they can handle this properly. the number of 2016 screen that can't handle 23p properly is terrifying. the Samsung KU series can't do such simple stuff.
some people care about frame interpolation and that doesn't work well with SM what so ever at the TV side.

Im using madvr but i cant seem to achieve the position of subtitles in the bottom of the videos with black bars even with the zoom control in madvr checked or unchecked. The subtitles start in the bottom but througt the movi they go up to the movie position. That doesn happen with mpc-ISR. My question is. Is mpc-ISR doing anyhting extra to the video image im not aware??

That happens because of a bug in XySubFilter.
There is no benefit in using XySubFilter except for a few idiotically complex Anime fansubs where is renders a bit faster. If you want something that just works reliably, stick with ISR.

Madvr has an issue with Potplayer.
If I open video files they refuse to play automatically, unless I press space button. Same if there is a playlist and next video is about to be played.

I don't think it is a potplayer specific fault. I use MPC-HC and I have the same behavior. Sometimes files starts how they should, but sometimes I have to press "space" to start them...

happens with the most recent version of the player. Reverted to a previous version and videos play automatically

oh and try the ISR on UHD even not that complicated subtitles make you problems.
the biggest problem of the ISR is that it doesn't use the "new" subtitle interface. ISR is not correct by a 3D LUT for example. well it can read the colorspace flags of ASS files and use them but it doesn't know the output colorspace.
it would be nice if we could just forget the XY vsfilter/XY subfilter and move on to a bug fixed xy version, a ISR that can do the same or something new like libassmod but we are not that far yet.

Setting up a new JVC 7500 PJ and I'm having some issues with 3D. madVR OSD is showing a 3D rendering path but it shows it is scaling from 1920x1080 --> 5720 x 3240 and it is (of course) dropping frames all over the place.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

A quick look at the specs suggests that the projector needs to be in 1920x1080 mode for 3D to work anyway, so should do that and avoid all troubles.
well madVR "should" output 1080p with frame packed 3D anyway.
quite odd...
The subtitles start in the bottom but througt the movi they go up to the movie position.
This is most likely a known bug with external .srt files and italic text (if I remember correctly). Shouldn't happen with all subtitles.

i can see the difference between true 23p and 60 hz SM.
but getting 23p in a screen doesn't mean they can handle this properly. the number of 2016 screen that can't handle 23p properly is terrifying. the Samsung KU series can't do such simple stuff.
some people care about frame interpolation and that doesn't work well with SM what so ever at the TV side.
I tried (madvrs)display modes back then and returned to 60hz and SM cause you were right.
Just yesterday I tried the new option ( "hack Direct3D to make 24.000Hz and 60.000Hz work") and it seems to work wonders, for 23.976 it gives me 1 frame drop every 1 hour which seems good but it disables PC mode.
Now I am confused which is the best choice.

Yeah something is odd. I've even tried putting the PC in 1920x1080/24/3D mode first in the nVidia control panel (I had to also select YCbCr over RGB or I get odd colours as well).... but same thing. I'll play more tomorrow
Thanks
Nathan
edit: and the PJ reports it is getting 1920x1080/24/3D
